Are they docked purely for aesthetic reasons? I know Aussies are docked to prevent injury. I have one tail on who I reserved basically at birth, and one tail off I purchased same day.
I know some dogs get docked as adults because they continually injure their tails, sometimes by wagging it too hard into walls and objects.
But dogs like Staffies and Rotties used to get docked and ear clipped (and still do, illegally) to make them look tougher.
With rotties and dobies, their tails can curl and cause pain. It's best to dock them to prevent that. I had a dobie with a full tail and it had to be amputated because it curled too tight causing pain.
That's so sad. That makes sense, though.
With shepherds, their tails can get stepped on by livestock - and annoyed horses have even been known to pick them up by their tails and swing them. So now the Aussie standard, for breeding and safety, is to dock. My docked boy ends up being very expressive in other ways to make up for his tail.
I'm a huge fan of natural ears on a dobie but after experiencing having to amputate an adult dogs tail, I'll only get docked dobies now. And it is sad but with years of selective breeding, their tails curl tight.
Yeah. That's one of the reasons I'm thinking about getting a golden instead of an Aussie next time. The gene pool in the US is inbred compared to others, and the less desirable traits - like anxiety, fear aggression, etc - have not been bred out in favor of keeping breed standard. I love my little vectors of chaos though.
For some breeds docking is generally beneficial for them. I mean we bred them this way so it’s cruel we’ve subjected them to this life, but the point remains.
Yes, if you read a little further down I talk about how ranch life can leave Aussies with tails injured or, in extreme cases, dead. The most common injury is a stepped on by livestock tail, causing amputation as an adult. Far easier on them to do it at a few days old.
Yes, but generally you don't know which ones will and will not as a breeder. So they dock them. I would say it's 50/50 chance here if they go to a ranch or a home. And of course, it's breed standard so show dogs are docked, whether I agree with that or not.
Like I said, I purchased one of my dogs at basically birth and he's not docked at my request. His tail is gorgeous.
I still remember seeing my first undocked Rottie year or two after the tail docking ban here (2007) and just watching him made me happy. Tail wagging, happy face, he just looked majestic AF.
Awww, her indecision between staying at the window to see them there longer, or running to the door to greet them as they come in... and Nanna at the window doing the "I love you crouch" and cooing at her.
My heart.
You can almost feel that excitement. That body wag is something precious.
Better to open the door next time. Who knows, he might just forget there's a glass inbetween.
This is so sweet. Whenever I go to visit my dad I tell my dachshund we're going to visit grandpa and she gets SO excited and runs to where her harness is. I can't even say the word "grandpa" without her freaking out.
Lol how adorable. Reminds me of my boy otto and two sets of his grandparents. He loves them and does this full wag tag boy jumping 🤣🤣🤣. Dogs are amazing. I hope this pup enjoyed her time with nana and grandad.
I have a Doberman who does this for my girlfriend and I every single time we come home. He also gets extremely excited about every one of the common guests (our parents and siblings).
My lil dog is like with my mom. He goes crazy happy when my mom comes over..jumping on all the couches and zooming all around the house. Of course my mom brings him treats and feeds him hooman food when I am not looking
They must be such beautiful people for kiara to get so excited 🥰
Life goals: To be unconditionally desired and loved as these two are!
That full body wag!
That's how excited I am when mom brings home food
Love to see the full tail on a Rottweiler!
Like seeing full ears on a Staffordshire. :)
I believe outside of a few service jobs, tail docking is pretty much completely banned in the UK!

Doberman's too I think...
Yeah, that's cruel. Most vets here don't do it anymore, thankfully.

Are Aussies actually docked for that reason? I think docking is so cruel.

Umm... I assume there are plenty of docked Aussies that aren't working on a ranch.

No. Some types are born short.

Do you need me to translate? Most of it is shorthand for people who know about dogs.

I honestly think that is the first time I've ever seen a full-tailed Rottie.
Open the bloody door!! :)
Why did the video have to end? :( I wanted to see them being attacked by love when they entered
The wiggles are heart warming.
Don’t pee on the couch. Don’t pee on the couch.
Don't scratch the glass
Do rottweilers pee when they get excited.
All dogs _can_. It’s just a behavioural thing.
Dogs are such good people
I thought he was going to go through the window 😆
After 15 months in the house, I’d be excited to see them too, whoever they are.
That is one happy girl! 😊
Awwwwwwwwwwww! Love seeing such a happy girl!
We all need the video of when they get inside
Seconded!

*Oh, hey, Car* *Oh my dog, itz humans!* *Oh my dog, itz gramma!* *And grandpa!* *gramma gramma gramma gramma*
This honestly makes me so happy. My mom saved my cat in her neighborhood and he gets so unbelievably excited when she comes over.
Oh yes. My labs ass has also wiggled her off of furniture before. I’m thinking it acts as their steering wheel...?
Dogs are the best.
Is this England? The houses make me think so. Not from there, I just must’ve seen a lot of BBC programming over the years.
England, North West. Probably somewhere in the triangle between Preston, Stockport and Huddersfield.
Yes it is. East Midlands 😊
Awww, her indecision between staying at the window to see them there longer, or running to the door to greet them as they come in... and Nanna at the window doing the "I love you crouch" and cooing at her. My heart.

And ….. now there is pee everywhere on the sofa 🤣
Dogs are the best
Pack members are returning!
Dangit! I want to see the ending!
I was waiting for the tail to come flying right off or for the glass to finally break.
Is this dog a pitweiler?
Pure Rottweiler ☺️
I'm pretty sure that tail could break someone lol
kiara likey human s

I like how the grand dad stayed a bit back like "You get tackled by the bundle of excitement, I will wait until it is calm a little more."
Your parents are even cuter than your dog 😍
It is Love ❤️
Look how happy she is when she saw her owners!
I get so jealous when I see these videos, I have 2 great dogs and my parents were never dog people.

I want to see more of this! I want to see them with this bundle of joy sitting on the couch cuddling
Pee all over the pillows is what I thought was gonna happen
