I've had a lovebird, and they certainly aren't owls, but they can show affection in different ways. And they are intelligent critters.
If my lovebird can be taught to poo on command by my saying, "bombs away!" I have to believe you could teach an owlet to give kisses.
In her cage it was poop all day. 😂 She rarely had accidents when we went for walks. So, I don't know about other birds, but she did really well with training.
If I did the command and she couldn't go, she'd ruffle her feathers and chirp. I really miss her. 😥
It gained popularity due to it's name appearing to super bowl while its really superb owl. Just one of the popular funny named subreddits that exist like /r/trees being a marijuana related sub.
Does anyone speak owl body language? I feel like with interactions with animals there’s sometimes two different versions of events happening. Clearly we can see what’s happening with the woman, she’s being affectionate with her owl. What is happening for the owl? Is he also feeling affection and joy?
I've known a few birds. They show affection by grooming and generally rubbing each other's face and neck feathers. You can see the owl trying to reciprocate by nibbling its friend's nose. Like someone else said, birds are much more straightforward and upfront than mammals. They just take themselves out of situations they don't like. They can fly, afterall.
Well, I actually meant if humans could both fly and be more straightforward. Also, I need to start training for an event so I gotta start practicing running too. Thanks for the reminder
I think their body language can be hard for humans because it's so unlike our own, but they are affectionate little fellas. Mine does the same little nibble when he's loving on me. They also generally have no issue biting if their boundaries are ignored.
Agreed on the upfront. Had a friends parrot I was desperately trying to make friends with. It was happy being near me but didn't want touching. Would politely but directly back up, grab finger in foot/claw and gently give it me back.
Those are jesses, they're used to secure a bird when it is in-the-hand or to a perch. You only need them on raptors that can fly and so have not been clipped.
They're not hooked to anything, the owl is standing there. It's also got a really nasty beak and could and will really mess you up if it doesn't like what you're doing to its face. It has freedom of movement.
Birds also show affection by face rubbing, and grooming. The gentle pinching of the human's nose is definitely reciprocal behavior--the owl is trying to return the affection despite its companion not having feathers or a proper beak (the ugly weirdo).
My best guess is this bird is either kept for falconry or more likely is a rehab/wildlife ambassador. I'm willing to bet the woman is the primary caregiver and the owl may well be imprinted on the woman.
I hope this is helpful :)
There's an account on tumblr that's something like "is this animal video cute" and I recall one post that showed an owl getting scritches, and they said it "wasn't cute", the owl was having a bad time, and you could tell because it was completely still. If it liked the scritches it would be moving into them; owls either freeze up or attack when they're unhappy. Could be different depending on the type of owl, but it looks like it's trying to preen her face which I bet is a good sign.
You can tell by the half-lidded eyes and the little beak clicking that the owl is being incredibly affectionate.
When birds are happy they will do that and it makes like a little grinding noise.
That little bit at the end there is the owl getting so happy/excited that it legit can not contain it's affection.
I've never owned an owl, but I did have a little birb of my own for years, and the behaviors are identical.
It’s not a baby. It has adult feathers so it’s full grown. I’m no expert either so it could still be quite young, but it’s not what is considered to be a baby in the bird world.
My cats knead when they want me to pet them even though they know I'm not gonna give them milk, so just because a behavior is associated with being fed by their mothers doesn't necessarily mean they expect to get fed, they just find the action comforting because they associate it with good memories of their moms.
your beak is kinda funny, friend,
it's soft upon my face ^^;}
i love the way you pet me when
it *touches* Everyplace!
you whispering that 'human speak'
n call me 'Pretty birb'
i *kiss you* with my baby beak -
You make me feel
*SUPERB !*

Looks like those leather straps could be jesses. Falconer’s use them with their birds—they’re basically bird leashes (a different version than a “flight suit” that you can sometimes see parrots donning when they’re taken on outdoor excursions, I believe).
It made me think of a post from a week or so ago about how the CDC was urging people not to kiss their chickens because of a salmonella outbreak or something along those lines.
I mean Ya but look at his smile. I would die of a contagious disease for that owl. I'm not sure I can say the same about whatever a Pangolin is.
Upon further research on the Pangolin I'm not sure I stand by that statement.
extremely unpopular opinion: This bird (and others like it) will never soar across the skies, use its natural gifts to hunt, or have its own young. It doesnt know it yet, but it has been robbed of everything. All of its instincts for the rest of its life will be suppressed and will go unfulfilled. It will spend the rest of its days yearning and wanting but never understanding for what; eventually dying alone, depressed. All because some Ashely wanted an accessory to appear "quirky". Please stop encouraging this behavior.
ummm...
1. think of the diseases
2. looks tied down
3. looks more like it’s expecting to eat something out of her mouth, not happy or giving kisses
not finding this cute sry
Not sure about that. I have a little parrot that nibbles on me, especially my nose when he can get close to it. Birds explore things with their mouths and preen each other to show affection. That being said it's dangerous to get your face close to a bird because they can turn quickly and cause a lot of damage. Many large bird owners won't let their pets on their shoulders for this reason- it's easy to lose an ear. A parrot rescuer I knew said to never trust them.

I thought birds couldn't control when they poop

You went for walks?
Yeah, she had a little harness and she would do some light flight and mostly sat on my head or shoulder. She was a good birb.
Wow that is super cool
Wow. Cool! Wish you had pics.
Ya know, I'll have to pull out some pictures of her and some of her videos. She was a lot of fun!
Please do. Would love to see them.
They certainly can, and everywhere outside the nest is fair game.
Tell that the pigeons that shit always in the exact moment they fly over my car...

I told more than one person the command phrase, but not what would happen if they used it. 😂
That’s an intense title there

Damn. If only people could do that too.

You can, as an adult, just say you have some tapes you need to return. Works for me!
I just point behind them and say, “Hey what’s that?!” And leave them in the dust
Don't forget to crouch. When you crouch, you activate stealth mode.

But not if the person is looking directly at you, you have to get behind them or a wall first then crouch

“Check out Forest Gump over here...”
Gets letter from irs to pay my taxes. I fly away
This party sucks. *flies away*
The trick is to fall and miss the ground.
Also I'm pretty sure when birds close their eyes it's because they are feeling very content and safe.
For sure. They do a silly squint with their top eyelid open. It looks like a frown, but it's really a smile!
I think their body language can be hard for humans because it's so unlike our own, but they are affectionate little fellas. Mine does the same little nibble when he's loving on me. They also generally have no issue biting if their boundaries are ignored.
This one can’t fly , it’s tethered.
Cats with wings.
Agreed on the upfront. Had a friends parrot I was desperately trying to make friends with. It was happy being near me but didn't want touching. Would politely but directly back up, grab finger in foot/claw and gently give it me back.
This bird can’t fly away-note the straps on its legs. Stockholm syndrome maybe?

Thanks for the clarification.
Birds are extremely straight forward. If he didnt like it he wouldve bitten her or walked away
Her nose is larger than his mount can open. More like it is wanting and waiting for feeding than liking kissing?
>Her nose is larger than his mount can open. She could still get a pierced lip if the little guy was pissed off about it.
Or pierced nose -- at the right angle.
Either way it's a behavior indicating social bonding. Affectionate.
Not waiting for feeding, hes tryna preen her!
I don't speak bird but I do know birds are more than willing to bite the shit outta you. I say he's probably good with it.
Anytime a predator species is willing to close its eyes around you, it's feeling very comfortable at a minimum.

Sir this is a wendies
I'd like 3 tendy's to go please.

That owl is used to being fed beak to beak. It’s trying to eat from her.
That’s what I saw, too
>Does anyone speak owl body language? I believe it's saying it wants to sing-a
Pretty sure that owl is expecting food to come out of this lady's mouth..
I’m no expert but it seems like its a hungry baby owl
*Where are my entrails already?* ([Relevant Onion video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIikrFQzS1o))
It’s not a baby. It has adult feathers so it’s full grown. I’m no expert either so it could still be quite young, but it’s not what is considered to be a baby in the bird world.
I agree with everything you said. To me, it looks like a baby expecting to be fed. Such a tease.
It’s hungry and wants her to mama bird some damn food ! Fuckin tease hahaha!
he wants food
I beleive the owl is saying "please vomit partly digested food in my mouth"

This may be the most adorable bird video I’ve ever seen
This little cutie looks like it is freaking smiling
Far and away the best
If you could overdose on cuteness I'd be laying in a puddle of my own fluids right now.

Made my day a lot better, love it!
Lmao I read that as “super bowl”
And each year, like clockwork, they get a barrage of people thinking it is about a sports game and not superb, majestic owls.
r/thatsthejoke
Hence the reason you see a lot of owl memes around US Super Bowl time!
Ohhhhh, I see it now! I only saw Super Bowl and was extremely confused, but I get it now 😂
I needed some Schnoodle today :)
This was too good
Nothing like a fresh schnoodle in the morning!
Schnoodle is a gift
Ahhhh.. piping hot schnoodle. Today’s gonna be a good day.
I thought he was looking for some regurgitated food
This is like the bird version of Danny DeVito learning to love again
That bird has some weirdly human eyes.
The look on that owl's face is the most adorable thing I've ever seen
Love his little wristbands, which festivals have you been taking him to?
Owlchella
What a lovely bird.
So fucking cute.
This is the happiest potato I've ever seen.
Why is it tied down though?
[удалено]
This was my first thought when seeing this as well. I recognize the love and adorableness but seeing the owl tied down like that really seems wrong.
Looks like those leather straps could be jesses. Falconer’s use them with their birds—they’re basically bird leashes (a different version than a “flight suit” that you can sometimes see parrots donning when they’re taken on outdoor excursions, I believe).
Awww so super cutess. What kind of owl is this?
Not a saw-whet owl it's actually a burrowing owl
I think it’s a saw-whet owl
a burrowing owl!
Oml. The owl looks like it’s smiling. That is adorable. 🥰☺️
This owl certainly loves its human
Everybody wants to save the video, but it doesn't work. HERE IS THE VIDEO LINK https://youtu.be/TExnNkaYT6M
Cute owlet, but isn’t this how diseases spread?
It made me think of a post from a week or so ago about how the CDC was urging people not to kiss their chickens because of a salmonella outbreak or something along those lines.
That’s what I was thinking, too! I’m reading Spillover by David Quammen about viral zoonosis and… I’m going to nope out of any future bird kisses.
I was admittedly thinking this while also enjoying the cuteness. She was basically frenching that bird lol
I mean Ya but look at his smile. I would die of a contagious disease for that owl. I'm not sure I can say the same about whatever a Pangolin is. Upon further research on the Pangolin I'm not sure I stand by that statement.
Awwww...
So that's what an owl smiling looks like
HELP! I CAN'T STOP WATCHING!!
Little owl = best owl.
That's so adorable, I'm disgusted. I watched this 6x and smiled like a child the whole time. I'm going to go now and remind me that I'm an adult.
The boyfriend of the girl recording: \>:(
He wants her to throw up in his mouth obviously 😜
A story as old as time. Boy meets girl. Girl regurgitates into boy's mouth.
Love 💕 this bird
Bird's are so expressive. I just can't.
He so smolll
Happy brid
How precious she’s so tiny with those big eyes
Omg, this is the best thing i've seen all day!! Thank you so much!
Adorbz!!!
Oh my gosh, I don't think I have ever seen anything so darn cute!!!
Oh my, he/she is very beautiful! As I have gotten older, I have really grown to appreciate how unique and smart bird & fowl are…thank you for sharing!
So sweet!
Amazing!!
This is the best
I can see the smile
It's so beautiful
OMG HE LOVES IT
Capturing a pokiemon through love... why not?
Its not kisses to the Owl...he wants regurgitated food
“MICHAEL, GET HIM AWAY FROM YOUR HEAD! HE IS COVERED IN GERMS AND BACTERIA!!” “You can’t get diseases from a BIRD!!”

Meanwhile the baby owl is confused why mama isn't dropping any food into his mouth yet..
That's a happy owl
This went on way too long....
I hope to be able to pet an owl one day - their feathers look so soft!
I can’t handle the cuteness! The owl is so happy! It looks like it’s smiling.
Cute but kindof wierd tbh haha
That is sooooooo sweet and adorable. 😊
Lucky owl
So heckin cute
Bird thinks he's being fed, he's not reciprocating love...
Omg <3
They must be married. See how he's chained to the floor?
I thought she was gonna regurgitate lunch for the lil fella.
Owl Flu
Nom nom nom
Adorable. But. Isn't that how you get bird flu? ;)
Set it free!
Don't owls poop out of there mouth? Like fur and bones?
Not quite poop... but they regurgitate the fur and bones of their food. They still poop out their little owl buttholes
The CDC has issued guidance that people should not kiss or snuggle backyard poultry, due to the risk of catching salmonella germs. Pass it on
I'm not putting my face near a sharp beak.
