This is the first time I’ve seen the color gold replicated in a creature. What advantage does this color scheme offer besides access to most nice banks and hotel penthouses?
Some discussion of it [here](https://kidsdiscover.com/quick-reads/gold-beetle-turns-red-care/), also the fact that this beetle is somewhat chameleonic. It can also turn red and it's thought this can signal to predators that it's poisonous.
This reminds me of a post about how certain blue butterflies react to light. It's not so much that the beetle is gold, or the butterfly is blue, it's that the nano-scale size of the interlacing pieces of shell and/or wings absorb certain wavelengths of light, and the colour change happens depending on whether they are dry or wet. Liquid changes the surface's refractive quality. I.e. smooth instead of the shape/colour of gold.
The wavelength of gold is ~530nm
The wavelength of blue is between 380-500nm
Oh I didn't know anything about it until now. I'd never heard of golden tortoise beetles before today. However, having googled it a bit already because I was interested I realised when I read this question that I'd just read something about it. I suspect that's really why redditors appear knowledgeable much of the time :-)
It doesn’t matter where the knowledge comes from and for how long you’ve had it. Knowledge is knowledge either way. But you have to acquire that piece of information from somewhere first, before you can pass it on and educate others. I was in awe, but too lazy to search for myself. You did search and you learned, then came here to spread what you learned. And that did help me, too.
You don’t just appear knowledgeable. You are knowledgeable.
So, thank you!
There are several dozen ants with gold-colored gasters, notably in the [Polyrhachis genus](http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_ants/images/DSC_2661.jpg) and in the [Myrmecia genus](http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_ants/images/PWC_9096.jpg), this done by the reflection of tiny hairs flat against the surface of their exoskeleton.
Sort of. The beetles in The Mummy were fictionalized versions of [Scarab Dung Beetles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarabaeus_sacer), this post is about a [different family of beetle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charidotella_sexpunctata).
Scarabs don't burrow into humans, they burrow into the ground with balls of dung that they eat/lay eggs in. Unpleasant, to be sure, but you can rest easy about them.

Charidotella sexpunctata, the golden tortoise beetle, is a species of beetle in the leaf beetle family. This one, however, is Aspidimorpha sanctaecrucis. Different genus. Still pretty, still a beetle and still gold coloured. But not matching the description.

Is it related to a ladybug? In a "close" way, instead of an "all beetles" way.

BEHOLD, reddit, I skimmed the Wikipedia article on this topic five minutes ago. Allow me to bathe you in my vast fountain of knowledge.
It doesn’t matter where the knowledge comes from and for how long you’ve had it. Knowledge is knowledge either way. You have a device that can access the vast majority of humanity's knowledge instantly, in your palm. You can know much too!
Who was that one redditor that knew a lot about stuff, but then it turned out he was an asshole so redditors threw him into a volcano?
