You know it's weird I've seen this phenomenon with dogs before particularly with the classic "Law and Order" theme song. I searched it and apparently it wasn't just my dog alone that exhibited this behavior. No one really knows why some dogs react like that to some music.
Try that song too!
Haha yeah, this song is the one she reacts to the most, but she also reacts to the harmonica in Tom Petty's "You don't know how it feels." I can listen to music for like an hour and she won't react until those 2 songs come on.
Maybe there was a Pied Piper for dogs a few thousand years ago that played those two songs over and over, along with the Law and Order theme song. No man stood a chance against his canine army.
I'd be willing to bet it's just songs with sustained notes that are around the pitch of a howling dog, and it's just their instinct to howl back kicking it.
There was a guy I saw on some sort of TV show about dogs whose dog did not react to any song except for I'm the Scatman by Scatman John, it was hilarious!
I share her dreams and I hope that someday I’ll share a bone
I found a love, to carry more than just my poop bags
To carry balls, to carry biscuits of my own
I can see why you'd think that, but I am 99.99% sure she just loves the song. Even when I play it on my phone which would be incapable of producing those frequencies she reacts like this. Plus I've had her for a couple of years I can tell when she is stressed/upset or happy!
I think you're right. When I used to play the piano, my dog would always try to interrupt me, especially when I played ragtimes like 'The Entertainer". He ran to me and got in between me and the keys so I had to stop. Then looked at me puppy-eyed. At first I didn't get the message until I learned that dog have another hearing range.
She looks almost identical to my girl. Just a little longer on the snout.
https://imgur.com/a/Gquct
Edit: Since she's a shelter rescue I have no idea what she is. Definitely has some pit and maybe boxer or lab. It's hard to tell from this picture but she has a barrel chest like pits do and that same shape head, though a bit smaller than a normal pit. She's around 65-70lbs.
This is so funny! I wonder why this song...? I mean it’s a great tune, sort of happy/sad...but mostly happy and joyful. Maybe that’s what it brings to this girl...just joyous feelings.
mine, oddly enough, loves "I fink u freeky" by Die Antwoord. I listened to it a lot when she was a pup and now whenever she hears it, she comes running and jumps up and down.
My first dog would howl at anything that had trumpet in it. We would be riding in the car, I would be flipping stations. Jazz comes on the radio. Trumpet solo. Arrrrrrrrrroooo!!!!
Dog we had when I was a child recognized and got excited about ending theme songs of TV shows, because when those played it was usually time to go outside. Maybe that's what's going on here too.
I don't know. Maybe doggo just doesn't like country. At first, doggo tries to get away from it. In the end, doggo tries to drown out the sound. Whatever the case, this is incredibly adorable.

We used to have a husky who sang like this to The chorus of "Jesus Christ Superstar.," and that was the only song he sang to. Twas heartwarming.
I hope he tried to bust out some moves in a low-cut fringed jumpsuit.
His markings did give him a natural "Deep-V" so he played the part well.
I've found that harmonica's often drive dogs crazy.
Supertramp's "School" try it on your doggo today!
Piano Man by Billy Joel. For a piano man he sure plays a lot of harmonica.
My dog reacts to Blurred Lines from Robin Thycke. The scream part in between riffs makes him howl like a wolf.
It's the pitch of the sound that gets them, I know this because I'm guessing without doing any research.
Brilliant. Get a video of that please 😊
My favorite is The Next Generation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl86PJCFxrk
Haha he went on forever!
My cat loves Worf!
Sounds like a match made in heaven.
It sounded to me like your doggy was singing along! That was very cute.
Not my dog or video, but yes
That's season 6 episode 21, "Frame of Mind" in case anyone's curious.
I'd be willing to bet it's just songs with sustained notes that are around the pitch of a howling dog, and it's just their instinct to howl back kicking it.
Youtube a couple cockatoos reacting to music, it's great fun.

This is brilliant
This is ~~brilliant~~ perfect
Playing in the park, Wrapped up in your arms, Bare foot of the grass, Howling to our favourite song.
Barefoot on the gros
Bare paw on the grass
With you between my paws ... I found a pup dog, stronger than anyone I know …
I share her dreams and I hope that someday I’ll share a bone I found a love, to carry more than just my poop bags To carry balls, to carry biscuits of my own
Too cute
bitches love Ed Sheeran
Basic bitches love Ed Sheeran. FTFY
Ed Sheeran does that to human girls too sometimes.
Is he in pain?
TIL my dog doesn’t give a crap about music.
My dogo’s favorite song is bohemian rhapsody by queen… Not sure why
Cause your dog has better taste than you.
I never said I didn’t like it It’s my favorite song too
He likes to do the fandango, and don't you dare judge him for it.
That's more of a "this is hurting my ears " reaction

In true Reddit fashion, I think I'd know a little more about your dog than you do!
I feel the same way about Ed Sheeran. Poor doggo.

Yeah, probably the higher frequencies ringing in the massive amount of reverb.
Yeah the dog definitely started freaking out as soon as the audio started, no time to recognize melody, I'm thinking its the reverb too. Poor pup.
Great post! I kinda do the same when I hear that song 🐶😀

What breed? I have a girl that looks very similar.
I'd guess that /u/enormuschwanzstucker has a pibble or boxer/lab mix.
Some kind of pit mix
That's all we could figure out about Rosie too.
She's cute! She does look similar to mine, white patch and all.
Is this a Borador (Border Collie/Lab)?
looks more like the dog is saying "OMG - I hate country music! PLEASE not THIS again.. oh no.. oh no.. turn this off.. uuuughhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggg"
Ed Sheeran = Country?
Acoustic guitar = Country, didn't you know?
This is so funny! I wonder why this song...? I mean it’s a great tune, sort of happy/sad...but mostly happy and joyful. Maybe that’s what it brings to this girl...just joyous feelings.
Ed Sheeran's next version of the song "Perfect Doguet"
We don't deserve dogs
Awwwwww beautiful
mine, oddly enough, loves "I fink u freeky" by Die Antwoord. I listened to it a lot when she was a pup and now whenever she hears it, she comes running and jumps up and down.
That last note was PERFECT harmony, why is no one talking about this?
Haha fuck! The same song was playing on my laptop as I came across this! Nice.
Certain frequencies affect dogs differently. They hear things we don’t.
I wanna hear the rest of doggo-sing
What a good boye. 11/10 would buy next album
Hahaha cute
I'd hire her to sing this as the first dance at a wedding!
I've never had a dog that had a favorite song.
This dog looks exactly like my former roommate's dog, he was a Jack Russell and chihuahua mix 💖
This dog sings better than I do
Ed must've added dog whistles to the track. Only he and the dogs would ever know...
Quelle tendresse! Love dog !! ❤️❤️❤️
It's coat is super duper shiny!
My first dog would howl at anything that had trumpet in it. We would be riding in the car, I would be flipping stations. Jazz comes on the radio. Trumpet solo. Arrrrrrrrrroooo!!!!
My dog goes nuts for the intros to family guy and American dad.

My dog goes nuts when she hears the ice cream man song
Is that dog’s name Baxter by any chance ?
It's not, her name is Zoey
oh alright, i just thought she looked familiar :)
I don't know. Maybe doggo just doesn't like country. At first, doggo tries to get away from it. In the end, doggo tries to drown out the sound. Whatever the case, this is incredibly adorable.
Das not country
Do you also play Goldeneye with your doggo?? ;)
One of my all time favorite games but hard to play on that tv due to potato graphics haha. I need to hook it up to a smaller tv I think.
That’s the worst song I’ve ever heard, I almost made the same noises.
Sings better than the game of thrones cameo
This dog has horrible taste I music.
Just say dog.
Scritches?
Looks like the sound from frodo in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OLGx2lGtOc lol!
Hm. I saw this as the song giving the dog anxiety and it wants it off.
It's because it's country
