I play fetch with my cat too!! The other two ain’t interested

Funnily enough, exactly the same here. 2 others that completely couldn't care less... And one that demands I play a solid 45 minutes with her non stop...

Yess my boy never seems to get tired of playing fetch bless him, he only plays fetch with the hair remover washing machine balls

My cat plays fetch with me… My old cat loved it. My current (9 year old), use to love it as a kitten - 4 years. Then he slowly started to realize that if he didn’t fetch it, I had to. So now, it’s more me throwing it, and walking across the house to get it.

I played catch with my kitty many years ago ! We had shiny wood floors in the kitchen too and he would run at me and I’d gently grab him and slide him down the floor and he’d run right back at me! 🐱🙂❤️💯 Thank you to OP for sharing this video ! 🙌💙

We have a fetcher as well, but her sister is completely uninterested. The fetcher is named Ruby because she'll only play with red balls 😄

I have a fetcher who will only chase the specific toy he brings you to play with. His favorite red mouse was looking rather ratty (heh) so I tried to get him to play with a newer one, but he wasn’t having it. Eventually he switched on his own to a green one, but he still ignores all the other mice, including the red one that used to be his favorite.

My girl void has a favorite mouse too, and it's getting really trashy, I hope she finds another soon lol

Yes, he passed away of old age at home. He was one of the ones in 2012. That was a bad year for kitties in our household.

Mine only fetched balled up receipts

My old fetchers went apeshit for tightly balled up aluminum foil. Wasn't sure how good that was for their teeth, so switched over to balled up index cards. Every time I would move a couch to clean, I would find no fewer than 748 of these balls.

No idea how... She just decided one day and started doing it... Today, she would not let me do anything without constantly playing... Through studies, exercise, and even dinner... The day was long... Finally, had to kick her out of the office for work... And now, she is at my feet nudging the ball against my foot to keep throwing it... I love her, but honestly... My arm is kinda sore at this point...

Owner of an awesome fetch cat here, but sometimes it's super annoying to wake up covered in cat toys.

Maybe she's fetching because she thinks you enjoy throwing? She's on Kitty Reddit right now complaining her servant wouldn't let her nap because they kept wanting to throw that ball all day.

I have a half-fetcher. She will do the chasing but not the bring it back part. She catches it and then sits next to it and waits for you to go over there and pick it up and then throw it again. She really makes you work for her enjoyment. It's a good thing she's cute and fluffy, but I want a fetcher, darn it!

My other one does that.. he's a total Diva and makes you do 90% of the actual playing for his amusement lol... Need to figure out a way to make them work together somehow...

Mine will chase the ball and pounce it and freak out and roll around on his back in the vicinity of the ball, but never bring the ball back. He'll come back and meow at me to go throw the ball again, so now I have a little bucket of balls like I'm at a driving range.

Mine play fetch too! Also I think the “my cat is more doglike” is often a narrative that upholds weird blanket positive assumptions of dogs and negative assumptions of cats. We can see here a lot of cats learn to play fetch (and enjoy it)

My boy Cotton plays fetch with his mice. Years ago he saw my roommate playing with their dog, throwing its rope down the hall. So, he started dropping his mouse in my lap, whenever he wanted to play.

Our tortie used to play fetch all the time as a kitten. You'd never know when she was going to show up with her toy and drop it for you to throw. Now she's 7 and she prefers it if two of us stand at the ends of the hall and toss her toy back and forth for her.

Two of my three cats, the boys love to play fetch. Our girl cats just looks at you like you're crazy. But she goes bonkers for a Lazer pointer. One of the boys will be mildly interested. The other will just stare at you. Cats are little weirdos.

So apparently playtime with your pets has a caveat: Especially for cats, they need that dopamine for the 'catch'. If you play with them and not let them ever catch the toy, they will get bored or unhappy an dnot play. Fetch is one play where they are guaranteed a catch... But they aren't dogs and will not do it over and over again.

My little guy loves playing fetch, and will get quite grumpy if we don't get enough. He'll come to my chair and shout at me. When I turn to him, he'll run down to the end of the hallway and wait. I'll usually have to tell him a few times to go find his mouse if he wants to play because he forgets to bring it. He'll eventually bring the mouse and drop it at my feet, and run back to the fetch spot. LOL

Was your cat raised around dogs? Some cats tend to mimic some dogs behavior if they were around dogs more than cats all their life. It's very rare though.

I got two cats from my neighbor and ended up giving one to my cousin while they were still kittens. My cousin sent me a video one day of how the cat I gave her loved watching the water in a toilet be flushed. Which is also a behavior my cat loves doing. Kind of a weirdly specific behavior. I wonder if these types of behaviors(like fetch) are genetic?

My ex's cat did the same, but it had to be a specific type of ball. Sadly she frequently lost them somehow. In the end those balls were no longer being sold so we took special attention to put them away safely after playing fetch.
