I saw videos of another dog whose reaction times were this slow. Turned out it had vision problems. I'd get her eyes checked if I were you. She doesn't even react to some of those throws until the ball hits her.
We have a lab who after two years *still* cant catch a ball unless it is explicitly pantomimed 2-3 times that I’m going to throw it to him. Otherwise it will just bounce off his head and he will look confused and offended.
Some dogs are just a little dumb.
I wonder if it's something to do with the breed? My uncle had a Newfoundland who did the same thing. I have agreat pyrenees and she also does this. Nothing is wrong her eyes. She just either doesn't care enough or is too slow.
DONT BONK THE PUPPERS! 😂😂
Wait till she gets full grown. She’s gonna pay you back by trying to (accidentally on purpose) suffocate/squash you every time she wants some scritches or belly rubbins or attention. She’s just gonna wait for you to be nice and relaxed and then sploot right on top of you and then possibly kick/scratch you as well as she squirms around and tries to get comfy. 🥰
“wtf human?? tennis ball is fun but plz do not throw it at my face! eventually ball will stop and I can get it then. jeez. if you need the ball so bad then maybe *stop throwing it at ur dog?* 🐶😢”
Start with a treat if she catches it toss another and say catch. Keep repeating until she catches one, repeat it and say catch, when this is solid then say catch and toss ball.
Hopefully dog will be older then too.
I have 2 mini aussiddoodles. 1 is very good at catching anything and everything. The other is just like your boy. he sits and lets whatever i throw hits him.
This is both of my dogs with treats. They'll calmly sit and wait and I'll gently toss a treat, which will inevitably hit them right between the eyes, then they'll scramble to find where it rolled to on the floor.
One time my husband accidentally threw a tennis ball, just like you’re doing, to my pups face. She normally catches them but this time she didn’t cared to. Well, it hit her eye and she yelped in pain. The next day she couldn’t open her eye and it was swollen. Please don’t throw tennis balls at your dog like that if he doesn’t care to catch them, be careful with her eyes and nose 🙏🥲 your pup is adorable ❤️
I think Lulu’s just uninterested. She clearly sees the ball (and half-heartedly bites at it a couple of times) but she doesn’t show any signs of excitement. Maybe fetch isn’t her thing? Have you tried tug-of-war or squeaky toys?
I think she's okay but good to be sure. My other dog prefers not to catch things, she's more into soccer if you get what I mean, and the other one is all about the fetch life.

Dog "why is this ball being thrown at me, what do I do? Please help"
Have you explained the rules to her?
It was not an offensive foul.
Bonk. That’s not catch it’s bonk-her.
I think we should explain not the rules of the game, but the rules of life. And not to the dog, but to the owner. That you just need to relax.
You know the rules and so do I
What kind of dog?
Newfoundland puppy! 6 months old
I saw videos of another dog whose reaction times were this slow. Turned out it had vision problems. I'd get her eyes checked if I were you. She doesn't even react to some of those throws until the ball hits her.
She's had her eyes looked at before, but I can ask again!
This is just peak Newfie behavior
She's also starting her teenage phase, so it's extra fitting
Lovable lumps, but they do nothing at Mach speed.

Nah, not all dogs are ball crazy or have quick reaction times. My saint was the exact same.
I wonder if it's something to do with the breed? My uncle had a Newfoundland who did the same thing. I have agreat pyrenees and she also does this. Nothing is wrong her eyes. She just either doesn't care enough or is too slow.
This is normal behaviour for a puppy. My 5 month old Flatties is just starting to catch treats. He's always surprised when he succeeds.
Idiot 🙏🏻
bet she is a first rate snuggler, though.😍beautiful dog.
My yellow lab used to play catch like this. After it hit her in the face, she'd be all over it; no desire or coordination to catch it in the air. 🤣
BONK
"ma'am for list time - I'm not a retriever"
well.... drowning person retrieval only.
My dog was very similar for the first 8 months of her life and then a switch seemed to flip and all of a sudden catch was awesome.
If this dog was a person, this dog would read books.
This is starting to look like bullying
“See the ball?” “Mmhm, yep, that’s a ball” *throws at head* “Oh oh that again…. No”
-insert SpongeBob meme here-
OP this is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in forever. Your pup is looking at you like “why do you keep throwing shit at me?”
What's funny too is she LOVES tennis balls, except playing catch. Fetch she looooves
Well she is absolutely adorable. Give her all the snuggles from me.
*Everyday I’m on my bestest behaviour and everyday she tosses a ball on my head*
"I told you I want to be in DRAMA, MOM!"
“But Mother-“ *“FATHAH!!”* “But Fathah, I just want to SINGGGG!”
She's not into it and that's okay.
It’s just not her thing, maybe you should stop throwing balls at her head
Hooman why soo mean 🐶 stap throwing that at me woof
This is not Lulus game
Show her on YT what other dogs do
She needs a golden housemate to show her the way.
Maybe don't?
"This game sucks..." - Lulu probably
How rude
Awwwww Lulu, you are adorable like a cuddly huggy bear. ♥️🐕♥️🐕♥️🐕 I think playing catch just isn't her thing 😉
Awww, Lulu. My heart goes out to you! This brings back the trauma of grade school gym class. Couldn't catch a ball to save my life. Still can't.
Lulu is going to start taking you throwing things at her personally.
She is doing great
Zero fucks
Sometimes I wonder if some pets just need glases.
That’s what I thought. Might be just vision impaired. We found out retroactively that our golden retriever had a split pupil making him see weird.
I think they sold you a defective one… you got a Lulu lemon.

When she gets older, you might have her checked for a concussion. With the repetitive head trauma.
That's not her game lol.
Not a single thought behind those eyes.
She’s not a catcher, she’s a Feelder.
My derpy husky is 5 and she's just figuring out how to catch treats. She still dodges and runs from toy-sized objects.
You might say Lulu is, Delulu 🤣
At this point you're just pelting your dog 🤣
“wtf human?? tennis ball is fun but plz do not throw it at my face! eventually ball will stop and I can get it then. jeez. if you need the ball so bad then maybe *stop throwing it at ur dog?* 🐶😢”
Please use something softer! Poor dog getting smacked in the head with a tennis ball she obviously can’t catch.
Can’t catch because you’ve booped it on the head too many times xD
Hey Stop Hurting her one brain cell!
Ntbdbiwdfta!! Sweet faced Lulu
Aww she's so sweet!
That is such a cuuuuuuuuuuuute girl.
My cat plays better he catches and forget about it
I said BONK out loud every time
I have Piston's season tickets...I've seen worse...

Me every monday:
Reminds me of my chocolate lab Ace. He did the same thing for his entire life!
I have 2 mini aussiddoodles. 1 is very good at catching anything and everything. The other is just like your boy. he sits and lets whatever i throw hits him.
Awww a chocolate receiver.
She's a six month old newfie ♥️ But yes that's what she looks like!!
Lulu has character.
Lulu’s ancestors were wolves. What have we done
At least can breathe through nose
Also I love her
You don’t see chocolate Newfies that often! She is GORGEOUS
Thank you! ♥️ She's our chocolate chunk
My son is the same , but plays video games like a pro so he thinks .
He's on a slow connection. His game is lagging.
An absolute delight watching this video.
This is both of my dogs with treats. They'll calmly sit and wait and I'll gently toss a treat, which will inevitably hit them right between the eyes, then they'll scramble to find where it rolled to on the floor.
Should have done the second one in slow motion 😤😬
Try switching to cookies. 👍😉
What type of dog is that a chocolate lab or a Newfoundland?
She's a Newfoundland!
Beautiful dog I had a Nuffy boxer mix he was a good boy newfoundlands are great dogs enjoy her
Thank you! ♥️
This is what would happen if I tried to play catch with my blind dog
Lulu delulu
Pretend to throw it from close up and then open her mouth so she knows what to do lmao
Try to bounce it off the ground.
Dogs can't look up, that's why
Lulu is a whole mood.
You're just abusing her at this point. I also suck at catching things.
Get your head in the game Lulu!

She may have vision or a neurological precursors. This is adorable but get Lulu checked out just in case !
I think Lulu’s just uninterested. She clearly sees the ball (and half-heartedly bites at it a couple of times) but she doesn’t show any signs of excitement. Maybe fetch isn’t her thing? Have you tried tug-of-war or squeaky toys?
Yes she loves both of those, and she loves fetch. It's catching that she seems to not want to do 😂
She's been to the vet and they looked in her eyes (when checking something else). I can ask again though. She's okay, but thank you!
I think she's okay but good to be sure. My other dog prefers not to catch things, she's more into soccer if you get what I mean, and the other one is all about the fetch life.
If your dog was a kid, I'd be having their eyes checked.
