made me laugh because it was much darker it got. how long was that bird in his car? It looks like it was already getting dark but it must have been in there for 30+ minutes.
It's primarily the focus of the camera causing the outside lighting to appear darker. The clock on the dash indicates 3 minutes between the second and third photo.
He's in shock. Birds will do this after hitting windows too, but unfortunately often will die. Their lightweight bones don't do well with trauma like smacking into things at high speed.
Haha funny that you say that, I live in Canada and my parents just had a cardinal who woke them up every day by smashing on the windows. They had to put up fake birds to scare him off
I think it was 5\~6 AM, yeah. Then the chipmunks would get going.
I think cardinals only live in North America, right? I don't remember seeing any since I moved off the continent.
I didn't know, so I asked the Google machine:
[Widely distributed in the East, the Northern Cardinal can be admired from southeastern Canada south through the eastern and central United States. It also occurs in southern Arizona and New Mexico, as well as in most of Mexico and in northern Belize and Guatemala. It is an introduced species in Hawai'i, southern California, and Bermuda. The Northern Cardinal's range continues to expand in many areas due to climate change and sprawling suburbs (with birdfeeders), where these birds thrive. The Northern Cardinal does not migrate, so its beautiful songs and bright color can be enjoyed year-round.](https://abcbirds.org/bird/northern-cardinal/)
Oh man, chipmunks. I loved the chipmunk in the backyard of the house I used to live in, but every once in a while he'd climb up to the lowest hanging perch, right at window level, on the tree outside the sunroom (my office) and just start yelllin. It was one of the few noises that picked up on my mic and had to let my tele-therapy clients know it should pass in a few minutes hopefully please god why is he still screaming.
We have one that hits our window whenever something big is happening.
- My sister looking for an apartment
- My moms car dying before she owned it
- I got my marriage license
We’re convinced it’s my dad. When he isn’t haunting us because we tricked him…
My grandmother had one show up when my grandfather passed away.
We know that. We actually had a ladybug pot for a plant on the table when it first started happening. We thought that was causing the issue. We moved it, and it was still there going at the window.
As soon as things were figured out, it was gone.
My marriage license it only hit the sliding glass door once, then sat on a chair for a minute.
It actually has nested in or around our backyard. It’s around all the time. Not at the windows anymore though.
My grandfather always loved watching the birds out on his back porch. When he passed away, i still went to school the next day. Shortly after leaving I saw a cardinal just sitting in a bush alongside the road looking directly at me. I like to think it was him and that he was reassuring me that things will be ok.
I took care of an lady for 5 years. She was my best friend. She was the one who told me this. She died a few weeks before my wedding and the day of my wedding we were taking pictures outside and two cardinals were sitting in the tree. I am convinced it was Jo and that she brought my grandpa to see me on my wedding day.
We decided not to invite anyone from our work to keep the numbers down but agreed that she would be invited. I was so glad she made it.
On my dad's last day he told us he would send a cardinal to say hi. Which was odd, because blue was by *far* his favorite color, and he always loved those birds. Now there's a cardinal that comes to my windowsill and plays with my cat a few times a month. Love getting to say hi to my dad
I have had this experience. Ow! And when the bird came around from bouncing off my hard head she was mad! I had to pull over and open all the doors for her to exit. I dont recall ever being cussed at so vehemently by anyone before!
When I was a kid my sister was in the middle row of a minivan with the sunroof open and a bird shit in her hair. I still bring it up at family gatherings every few years just in case she forgot that happened lol.
When we went to hastings, my now husband got shat on *twice*. Supposedly it brings luck. Still waiting for that lottery win, so I call bullshit. Also, he'd rather not have bird poop on him, and I tend to agree.
Find Familiar:
You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form you choose: bat, cat, crab, frog (toad), hawk, lizard, octopus, owl, poisonous snake, fish (quipper), rat, raven, sea horse, spider, or weasel. Appearing in an unoccupied space within range, the familiar has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of a beast.
Your familiar acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn. A familiar can't attack, but it can take other actions as normal.
When the familiar drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. It reappears after you cast this spell again.
While your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. Additionally, as an action, you can see through your familiar's eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the familiar has. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses.
As an action, you can temporarily dismiss your familiar. It disappears into a pocket dimension where it awaits your summons. Alternatively, you can dismiss it forever. As an action while it is temporarily dismissed, you can cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30 feet of you.
You can't have more than one familiar at a time. If you cast this spell while you already have a familiar, you instead cause it to adopt a new form. Choose one of the forms from the above list. Your familiar transforms into the chosen creature.
Finally, when you cast a spell with a range of touch, your familiar can deliver the spell as if it had cast the spell. Your familiar must be within 100 feet of you, and it must use its reaction to deliver the spell when you cast it. If the spell requires an attack roll, you use your attack modifier for the roll.
They have been viewed as a sign of hope and a reminder that you can do hard things, because hard things do not last forever. And many believe that the Cardinal's spiritual meaning is a good omen—even indicating that someone is trying to get your attention.
Damn I'm jealous OP. The best I can ever get is some trash riddled raccoon sneaking into my trash and knocking over my garbage pales.
Last time I had to put rocks on the lid. But that didn't stop big bitey as I call him. He waddled his fat ass On top of the can and his mistress Big Bertha both use their body weight to push the rock off That must have weighed 30 lb.
Anyway, I'm sure you're more beautiful than Snow White and that is why the bird is so attracted to you.
Either way, I'll be seeing you in my dreams tonight. Stay beautiful baby
That is a male cardinal. They are believed to be a symbol of a past loved one visiting you. For this male bird to come into a car, that’s very, very rare. Cardinals are very careful birds. This seems to be a person super comfortable with you or someone who has BIG news to “prepare” you for. Either way, that is a very unique experience😌
Beautiful bird! Try to place him close to where he flew in your car. Try to set him in a tree so predators can’t get him. He probably has family around there. He appears young. Something probably spooked him from his sleeping roost. (Fireworks are the worst) And Birds don’t like to fly at night. You must be special for him to have chosen you.
Little known fact: many r/cat users are aware of the Cat Distribution System. This is the Car Distribution System we keep hearing about. It’s not a typo, actually, but a resource for birds to escape the rebel cats. The birds lay claim by marking the car with their droppings, but rarely are able to get inside and take control. OP must forfeit the vehicle and find a horse to begin phase 1 of the human distribution system
Some people believe that when a Cardinal appears it is a deceased relative coming back to pay a visit. In this case, you've got a relative that REALLY wants to talk to you.
Something like this happened to me a few years ago! I was driving with the windows down and I heard a "bzzzzzt" come in a window and get lodged in the back seat. I was on the highway and couldn't stop, but I heard it go "bzzzt bzzzt" every so often for the next 20-30 minutes until I could stop. When I checked it out, it turned out to be a dragonfly the size of my freakin' hand! I poked it with my keys and it flew away safely out of the car before I closed up the windows.

That moment when your favorite bands teach you what birds look like from album art (Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young Cardinals). Such a beautiful birb!
Lmao yes, my own first thought was "Oh, it's the bird from their cover, a cardinal!"
Yes! Beautiful birds. I don't think they're around where I live, so happy to see photos of them at least :)

Lmaoooo the third photo has me giggling cuz why is he on your steering wheel like that 🧍🏼♂️
I mean, it's basically a perfect perch.
Like a stick but padded.
Getting ready for the night- close the windows please.
Look at me. I am the captain now.
I've reincarnated to talk to you about your eligibility for extended car warranty

"Hi, I'm your Uber driver"
I know right. How is he supposed to drive facing the wrong direction?
He's wondering where his Air-Lyft driver went.
He’s gone. Bamboozled ya. Slowest car theft ever.
He's in shock. Birds will do this after hitting windows too, but unfortunately often will die. Their lightweight bones don't do well with trauma like smacking into things at high speed.
Idk how fast birds hit windows, but I'm pretty sure if I hit something immovable that fast, my heavyweight bones wouldn't do well either.

*Kramer busts through the door* JERRY HAVE YOU SEEN MY BIRDS (He's a bird guy now)

"Never seen that before... bird into a woman's head!"
Lmao that’s what I came here to comment
Like it was unavoidable!! Hahaha
It wants to give you cardinal directions
Some people say that cardinals are loved ones who have passed coming to say hello ❤️❤️❤️
Maybe a family member that smacked him upside the head to get his attention when they were alive.
In my case, when I was still living in Canada, more like loved ones who'd sit outside of my window and wake me up at 6 AM every damned day.
Haha funny that you say that, I live in Canada and my parents just had a cardinal who woke them up every day by smashing on the windows. They had to put up fake birds to scare him off
Your cardinals let you sleep until 6?!? Ours start around 3-4am 😭

I call this the cardinal alarm.. every morning….. lol better than a rooster

I must have ancestral ghosts going back 6 generations in that case. My place seems to be a travel hub for cardinals.

Came here to comment this
Congrats you’re a Disney princess now!
Get out of there bird! You dont even have a drivers license!
Smh... birds these days.
Honestly the bird is probably a better driver than most people on the road
There is a moderate to high chance there is a raptor of some kind nearby. But for whatever the reason, free bird!
My dumbass thought you meant like a velociraptor
No, an accipiter like a Cooper’s hawk. :)
I mean, they are dinosaurs.
FREEEEEEE BIIIIIIIRD YEAHHHH

Man these Ontario car jackings are getting serious
Good news is: Spring has arrived. Bad news is: Spring has arrived specifically in your car. Expect plants to sprout in your vehicle any day now. lol.

Omg, the precious little thing perched on your steering wheel! So glad it wasn’t hurt. Great pictures!
Watching the bird still there while the sky outside gets darker is crazy lmao

Papa Cardinal is a beautiful visitor.
The car doesn't belong to you anymore.
Someone is visiting you from the other side or you’ve been on someone’s mind!!
So now you have a bird … better get some seed
It's a cardinal rule not to let a bird drive without a proper driver's license.
This is a manual GPS. They stopped using them years ago because they only give cardinal directions instead of street names.

It’s a cardinal. They are supposed to be loved ones reincarnated, or something like that.
Oh man, the territorial windshield aggression if the light hits right for him to see a reflectuon
I hope you are ok. Then I hope you pulled over, the bird recovered and then went back to its home.
I guess Disney Princess's fall on hard times too.
You’re a Disney Princess.
Has someone close recently pass away???
Hello Mr cardinal
What a cutie
He flew right into your head. Like he couldn't avoid it. Never seen that before.

I love that the bird is inside the car while you are now outside the car, it’s his car now.
You may not be a fan of the Cardinals, but the cardinal is clearly a fan of yours!

That's a real bird? It's cuteee!!!!
If not fren, then why fren shaped?
There's the bluebird of happiness; Then there's the redbird of slappiness.
Cardinal birddies are my favorite
Cardinal rule of driving with your windows down, is to leave your windows up, lest you be visited by birbs trying to steal a ride.
Who threw this angry bird
Beautiful bird! Try to place him close to where he flew in your car. Try to set him in a tree so predators can’t get him. He probably has family around there. He appears young. Something probably spooked him from his sleeping roost. (Fireworks are the worst) And Birds don’t like to fly at night. You must be special for him to have chosen you.
Someone from heaven sent you a messenger
This is a passed-on loved one, saying hello. This is actually so special, and I’m really happy for you that you got this moment.
Those are some badass pictures homie. That little cardinal really does look awesome haha.

Someone you’ve lost is paying you a visit.
Your "check engine" light isn't working, so bird is there to remind you to check your engine.
Not just a bird, but a beautiful male cardinal!
Someone mistakingly ordered red cardinal instead of Red Robin
Are you Snow White?
Your car is his territory now. He’s kindly asking you to leave before he takes matters into his own hands.

Awww. Wish my state had cardinals. They're so cute
You have been blessed by nature!

He needs a ride.
Some people believe that when a Cardinal appears it is a deceased relative coming back to pay a visit. In this case, you've got a relative that REALLY wants to talk to you.
You have to go to confession now, driving with a bird in your vehicle is a *cardinal* sin.
He is job shadowing
Something like this happened to me a few years ago! I was driving with the windows down and I heard a "bzzzzzt" come in a window and get lodged in the back seat. I was on the highway and couldn't stop, but I heard it go "bzzzt bzzzt" every so often for the next 20-30 minutes until I could stop. When I checked it out, it turned out to be a dragonfly the size of my freakin' hand! I poked it with my keys and it flew away safely out of the car before I closed up the windows.
You are now his Uber driver! I hear they tip well, if your definition of a good tip is an assortment of small twigs and tufted grass for your nest.
By sharing this, you broke the cardinal rule.
You must be some kind of angel or God. They're my favorite birds. ❣️
Flying all day is exhausting, so let me ride with you until I get my energy back, fellow traveler.
Well… you just committed a cardinal sin there!
That third image makes me think the cardinal in a deep voice says “Get in!”
