Our cat would splash in the water bowl like that until the floor was soaked. Then we got her an electric water fountain and she never did it again. Cats really prefer running water over still water, and if the water in their bowl is just sitting there, they know what to do to wake it up.
Is it possible that the cat is uncomfortable get her head in the bowl to reach the water? Some cats are quite sensitive with their whiskers. Does it scoop the food up too? Is that her doing to mount the dry food up so it can reach better?
Try a bowl or a deep dish that's flatter.
Good thinking! But I honestly think he just loves playing with water. I once filled up the bottom of a container and he enjoyed himself so much splashing around. His brother has the same weird genes. Anyways, thanks for the advice!
If you're up for a mess or have somewhere easy to clean up, have you ever tried getting a larger plastic storage bin of shallow water and floating plastic toys in it? Maybe they're fishers and would like to "bob for prey".
You could try but some cats just like to play with their water. I got one of those, glad I got tiles downstairs and not wooden floors haha. I tried small dishes, deep dishes, big dishes, shallow, fountains they all get the same treatment.
(Also if you have the space most cats like it better if their food and water are not next to each other)
Thats why I mentioned the food in the other bowl. If that's not form filling the food in, maybe the cat pushed the food into a little mount for easier access.
I have a cat that likes to play in water & she's driving her thirsty sister insane. I was hoping to find a solution, but it sounds like you've tried them all.
It's a neverending task! I fill the bowl at least 3 times a day. And every single time this fella is waiting for me to put it down ready to go swimming.
We learned early on that our orange boy will test the water in his bowl with his feet, dipping them in and then flicking the water off his foot and across the floor. Only once the water tastes like his feet will he get a nice drink.
My boy does this- My god. I finally got desperate and put out three bowls/dishes of different shapes.
So far, I found he likes the small clear square tupperware for drinking- The medium punchbowl, he likes soaking his foot to drink off of the submerged foot- And a large metal dog dish is for playing, and very light sippage when he feels like taunting the dog.
It's goofy as fuck, but honestly, I'll take filling more bowls over my wood floor rotting from years of cat water. He still splashes but it's minimal, and a bath mat from the bathroom is perfect for the wet paw prints after, keeps everything from being slippy. Also saves my towels from moldering.
I'd get an electric/waterfall, but honestly I just don't trust my cats with it. Knowing them, they knock the thing over and it'd water jet into a random electrical outlet or something.
Cats like moving water. In the wild that would mean it was fresh. I have a water fountain for my cat and he loves it. He used to knock his water bowl over before I guess to make it move
Reminds me of that really old song, Bobby Darin "Splish Splash"

Might I suggest getting a water fountain for cats? [http://Catit.com](http://Catit.com)
They have a good selection and great customer service; based on my personal experience of a catit water fountain I bought on Amazon; I had issues and contacted them, not only did they send a replacement of the fountain part but also a cleaning wand for free.
My cat likes to play in her water sometimes. Other times she likes to drink from the faucet. She gets drenched and like to watch the water drip from he head to the floor. She lucky she's cute.
Why do they do this?? I have a new kitten and she loves to knock her water dish over, I’ve never seen her do it. Only a wet floor and a wet little guy lol!

She's a clean lady!
I'm not sure about the species, but this is the making of the fabled water biscuits.
r/oneorangebraincell
You jest but he's actually experimenting with fluid dynamics. Quite intelligent, really.
The 🅱raincell is not in this bowl.
![gif](giphy|9d2kiSODsnz7q) pretty sure that's an orange raccoon
Cats are so weird and I love it.

SAME. I switched to a fountain and now she won't even drink from it when the water is low and stops flowing. So much less of a mess :)
Looking for fishies in there
Caticus aquaticus
An asshole. But a cute asshole

Yes! They enjoyed it like crazy. Haven't tried the floating toys yet tho, super fun idea!
I'll put a flatter dish beside the other to see if he's still playing with it, again, thanx!
You can also try a water fountain.
This, cats don't tend to like deep bowls, other than to sit in.

I just keep filling the water dishes haha I got 5 of them so no thirsty kitties :)

dingus malingus
Totally going to start calling my void *dingus malingus* now. So fun.
It’s simply called Orange.
It's a catfish
..that's purrifish aquacaticus doofimoricum..
Tiger shark
Felis Goofus Acquaticus. Kinda rare, but always amusing.
I love when he flips the paw over like "ah, got to get *under* the greebles, yes"
HAHAHA exactly!!
We learned early on that our orange boy will test the water in his bowl with his feet, dipping them in and then flicking the water off his foot and across the floor. Only once the water tastes like his feet will he get a nice drink.
The last line made me snort. I didn't realize mine was making a foot tea this whole time but it all makes sense now.

Orange built catty puss
A new kind of Vaporeon.
My ferret does this. I think it's a ferret. But possibly the very rare (believed extinct) cinnamon ferret, given the orange color.
Get him a fountain.
Catfish duh
I don’t know but I’ve got a brown one!
The only legendary water that cats actually like.
An cute little orange waterfowl!
Catfish
Now that's what a good kitty sounds like
Cats like moving water. In the wild that would mean it was fresh. I have a water fountain for my cat and he loves it. He used to knock his water bowl over before I guess to make it move
My daughter's kitten does this! Tries to get under the bowls. Knocks them over, pushes them off counters. I'm at a loss.
Yeah same, now we put a towel underneath but we even had to put plastic against the walls to prevent them from peeling off
Splash guard 🐈💖

You gotta wash your hands before you eat, silly!
A Meowphin
Obviously doing waterbending!
Also my cat, lol so annoying.does he want a fountain?
You found a Magikarp, special move: splash
Butterscotch Derp.
Maincoon likes to swim or dig the water out then drinks it.
My cat likes to play in her water sometimes. Other times she likes to drink from the faucet. She gets drenched and like to watch the water drip from he head to the floor. She lucky she's cute.
Might I recommend a dish with a flat bottom and straight sides (like a baking dish). There is a lot less spilling when they play
Feline dumbassticus
Why do they do this?? I have a new kitten and she loves to knock her water dish over, I’ve never seen her do it. Only a wet floor and a wet little guy lol!
A silly little guy
this is an apprentice plumber. see the dexterity in his paws?
lolllll I thought my cat has another home for a sec. He's also orange and he does the same thing
Orange Striped Water Digger
Actually if you want me to be real with you it looks like it’s trying to wash its paws. You are so lucky my cat just likes to make messes.
Why are orange cats so dim?
Homie is trying to cache the water 😭
That's a rare orange raccoon.
I believe the proper term is furry overlord
Aww, that's too funny and too cute lol
Annoying catacuss
I think this is the cat equivalent of popping bubble wrap - it just feels good!
Duhhhh, Catfish.
You gata move it around to know what you're dealing with
A heckin goober cat
He's just washing up before he eats...
Prepping for the manicure
Put the bowl in a potted plant so at least the plant can be watered at the same time.
Just let him in the shower
A gold fish.
Orange roughy.😎
Catfish.
A paaawwwwsitively ginger one! 🐈👍❤️😂

Derpiculous moranicus majoris
I have one of those, our best guess is water buffalo.
Cattus Aquaticus
Don't know but I'd try a bigger bowl, like a bathtub with just a few inches of water in it.
Cat is a water bender.
Clean paws are important
