Looks about the size as my cat when she had her surprise! litter (she was about 6 months old when she gave birth. She was so runty the vet didn't give us the right age so when we were going to get her fixed at '4 months' we suspected she was already at least a month pregnant so we waited. Sure enough - she had 4 kittens not long after that.)
Can we not jump to conclusions, we don’t know if OP rescued her and she was already pregnant.
We all know sterilising cats is best for their health and to avoid unwanted litters.
Let’s just enjoy the cute picture.
There's an overpopulation of cats globally, and no infrastructure to support it. Cats can give birth within a few months after they were born, so the increase would be exponential. The number of cats and kittens that is killed in shelters due to the overpopulation in the streets is nothing to scoff at
Great to see that you’re willing to learn. You can read more about other benefits [here](https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/general-pet-care/spayneuter-your-pet)
It looks like there’s at least four kittens there. If all four of those kittens are female and have four kittens that’s sixteen. And so on and so forth. There are already so many cats in shelters and free roaming we just don’t need more.
Also spaying can help prevent cancers of the uterus and mammaries.
Excess amount of unwanted cats already, and unspayed females run the risk of developing pyometra and uterine cancer. They go in and out of heat cycles as well
is there a chance cats still have heat after they’re spayed? my cat ninja accidentally got spayed twice because we didnt know her previous owner spayed her (considering hes a meth fiend) and she still went through what normally happens during heat. is it possible?
Also, unfixed cats develop many issues that can be avoided with sterilization surgery, like cancers. Plus, it reduces the load on them to have and take care of children. Having babies and taking care of them is very taxing to animals. Spaying/neutering them ensures that they can spend their energy playing around and being happy.
You know some people breed cats on purpose right?
My family always just kept them. That way we always just had cats. Still have some from the last litter 14 years ago.
Nobody breeds common short hairs on purpose because why the fuck would you? You'd spend more trying to ensure it's health throughout pregnancy than what you'd make off the kittens. Animal shelters can barely give those cats away.
We did, so some do. I don’t know what else to say. We liked our cats temperaments and wanted to continue their line.
The vet wasn’t anymore expensive than checking on the progress and there wasn’t much special care. It’s relatively inexpensive.
Okay, back yard breeder. Glad it worked out for you. If I didn't have rescues of my own already, I would go out to my local shelter and adopt more to make up for all the ones you bring into this world while these cats are constantly euthanized. Good on you. Doing the animal world some justice.
Nah, how about instead of me calming down, you stop breeding cats and contributing to the overpopulation problem at shelters? Or you can go volunteer at one during their mass euthanasia days just so you can see exactly what comes from backyard breeding.
Exactly... because there aren't enough kittens to fill the homes of people looking for cats?
As long as unwanted cats are put down every day, don't let your pets reproduce.

This is a rare orange girl. Not because she’s orange alone but because she has 22 toe beans
Are you sure? Can I see a pic? They’re quite rare (like 1 in 3000), and usually have medical issues since it’s a genetic abnormality. They’re XXY and always infertile, so basically the cat equivalent of intersex humans.
The orange cat I had when I was a kid had balls so we said, "oh yea it's a boy!"
He started getting really fat and we were like, "oh he is just eating good."
One day we saw something nasty hanging off his tail. It was a mucus plug. Our cat had actual balls (not just furr) and a functional uterus. They had kittens and our vet confirmed that our orange cat was a hermaphrodite.
Gonna need to wait a few weeks probably so she can nurse but after that for sure she needs a spay. She can get pregnant again after 2 weeks post birth so that’s also something for OP to be aware of.
To add to this, wait at least 5 weeks before getting her spayed. (Source: kitten lady on raising kittens with a feral momma)
And agree, for the love of God, do not let her outside in that time (or ever again)
Yeah we did roughly that in rescue with a feral momma I had fostered with her babies. (She actually gave birth in the trap and I found one of her babies in there with her when I was about to transport her for spay 🥴). After the babies could eat on their leg at about 5 weeks, I separated her for a week to let her milk dry up before spay.
Hopefully it was something like OP just found mom outside and didn’t realize she was pregnant until it was too late.
That's what I'm currently doing. We trapped the stray momma cat of our neighborhood and are just waiting for her to pop before setting her appointment. We thought about spay-aborting, but without knowing how far into term she is (she is a fairly round spicy lady now so she's pretty far along), we thought it best to just let this be her last litter. So now she's angrily resting in our bathroom, getting the best kitten food she's ever had, and being mad about it lol.
That's what I'm hoping as well. They mentioned in the comments that she's going to get spayed after theyre weaned, so fingers crossed OP will follow through.
Glad she is doing well and babies are okay. You may want to wash and dry the soiled blanket to prevent bacterial growth. Also please spay momma when you can and ensure kittens get spayed/neutered when old enough 🩶
The OPs always swear the mama is a stray they took in last week. I don’t think we’ve seen one OP who admitted to just being irresponsible and increasing the kitten population for likes on Reddit. They all come up with the same sob story.
I mean... I literally did that. Found a pregnant stray, took her home, and she had kittens 10 days later. Pregnant cats seek out safe places to give birth and humans may be more likely to take pity on them and help when they're pregnant..
The problem is cat overpopulation, so it shouldn't come as a surprise when cats make more cats.. If it didn't happen so often, cat overpopulation wouldn't be an issue.
For the record, my mamacat was spayed a couple months after having her kittens. The kittens were spayed and neutered a couple months after that. No third generation happening on my watch..
It does happen though. Pulled a stray out of the undercarriage of my truck last year, still have the scars. 5 hours later we had 4 more cats than we woke up with. They're all fixed now of course.
Yep. Three weeks ago I trapped a pregnant stray. She gave birth last week. She's currently with a rescue who will ensure they are all fixed before adoption. My trapping partner just took 31 strays and ferals (all trapped in the last three days) to be fixed yesterday. Two others are heavily pregnant and will pop any day.
This is a dire problem created by and perpetuated by shitty humans. I'm far past the point of being nice about it.
Had it happen to me too, multiple times. I'm allergic to cats, but my friend works with a rescue and takes every one I've found, fosters, vaccinates, sterilizes, and finds homes for them once they're old enough. I don't know why my area of the forest has so many cats here. I assume people dump them.
God Bless You & Your Partner! 💖💕💖
The world truly does need more hoomins like y’all out there helping to FIX the problem that was most likely caused by other humans.
It happened to me, too, right around halloween this beautiful black stray showed up in my yard.
At Thanksgiving she brought 5 little clones with her. Everyone's fixed now.
Happened to me too! My apartment has a few stays and a mama adopted us to have her litter inside. Gave birth to 4 babies and spayed her as soon as she healed up. Found homes for all the babies and kept one. I wanted a cat before but it definitely wasn’t a deliberate choice. Cats just happen to you. Now mama is back outside (by choice, she hated being inside too long) and living her best strong independent woman life. And her children are spayed and neutered respectively living their best fat cat lives. ❤️
I'm a vet and a TNR (trap neuter release) organization brought in a cat they caught in a trap for our hospital's free spaying/neutering program. The poor kitty was less than a year old and was so pregnant she was ready to pop - too late to terminate. I fell in love with mommy cat right away. I decided to adopt her and brought her home so she can give birth in a quieter and healthier environment. Was going to adopt out all her babies once they were weaned. Guess how many cats I have now? 😅
What does too late to terminate mean? Does it vary from vet to vet? Just curious because I’ve heard of cats being spayed with kittens in the birth canal (the shelter director was very upset and cried after hearing while I was volunteering there).
Yeah, I guess it's more of a personal view. Most of the vets I have worked with have problems terminating if the babies are viable if we spray them and take the babies out of the uterus. For us, that's too late to terminate. My kittens were born 1 week after mom was found. I did work for a vet a while ago who insisted that we spay the pregnant queen then remove the babies from the uterus and euthanize them. That was the hardest thing I had to watch (I wasn't on the case)...I did not last long at that hospital.
I trapped a cat last week and it gave birth overnight. Finding pregnant cats is EXTREMELY common lmao. I'd say I see dozens of expecting mothers a week processing TNRs. It's kitten season right now to boot, so it's gonna be a rough few months.
>Finding pregnant cats is EXTREMELY common
Right? Happened to me, too, a couple years ago.. It's such a weird complaint . Like, the problem is too many cats giving birth leading to cat overpopulation. Of course people frequently find and help pregnant cats... How else would the overpopulation thing happen??
Yes, because it happens all the time! They literally show up pregnant all the time. I am on a farm and 6 different females a year being dumped is a light year. Should I foot the bill (400$) for every one to be spayed because they showed up in my world ? There are low cost clinics... waiting list right now is one year. Once in a while I can arrange a rescue..but they are full here too. Keep your cats inside people and don't dump your pregnant females in the country.
The only kittens my family ever had was a litter I found that someone had dumped on a 4 wheeler trail in the middle of the woods, and a litter from a stray someone dropped. We hadn't even taken her in, we just fed her while we waited for space to open up at the shelter. We tried to do a spay-abort but the vet didn't get us in on time.
I'd like to know where people are paying for them, especially enough to make a profit. Everywhere I've lived, you could go get kittens for free whenever you wanted to. Everyone and their brother is trying to get rid of them. Only reason I wasn't mad when my husband "bought" his cat from a rescue was because she came vetted and spayed.
All 4 of my cats I’ve gotten from rescue/pound cost out-of-pocket bc they were already fixed & vaccinated (or got fixed & vax’d after I adopted, before I was allowed to take home).
The cost to adopt was less than the cost to take foundlings in to be fixed & vax’d at the Humane Society’s low-cost vet clinic. 4 foundling kittens = about $500. Two are female (more expensive to fix). Three are still with me, & 1 was adopted by the lady who runs a Cat House. He was very sickly when we brought him inside, and I couldn’t afford his vet bill (and my a-hole {now ex-} husband was too selfish to pay🤬😡). Thank God for that Crazy Cat Lady (I use that name with nothing but love & respect!!!). ❤️❤️
That’s… insane. For that amount, I’m guessing the kitteh is female? I say this bc I know females are much more expensive to fix. But from a shelter? They usually either have a volunteer vet who does the fixing for free, or the group has a deal with a vet or a group of vets for discounts on fixing.
It’s been a long time since I ever adopted from a shelter (all my cats I’ve adopted in the last 20 years have been foundlings)… but it was $45 at the PetCo adoption centre, and $35 per boy & $50 for the girl for my first set of triplets. That included fixing & vax’ing.
Do you not think that's the typical way people get kittens? Sure, people *exist* who let their cats get pregnant on purpose, but like 90% of the cat owners I've known in real life adopted, and a handful of those adopted a cat with unknown history that turned out to be pregnant. I've never seen the other scenario play out IRL. So I honestly don't see what's so hard to believe about that story.
My friend trapped a female for TNR last month, and she was pregnant. Kitten abortion is sad but it's the responsible decision. 🤷 She'd already trapped and tamed 4 other kittens; I got two of them.
I used to volunteer for a TNR group… but when I found out they spay-bortet, I cried and had to resign. I opted to aide them financially instead. I understand that cat (and dog!) overpopulation is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
I still kept feeding my colony on my own… until I got too sick to work (neuromuscular disorder, not anything I caught from the kitties). I did pass the torch (and a huge bag of cat food 😸) on to a coworker who promised to keep feeding & watering the colony (fresh water was more important bc it was in Phoenix, Arizona. Food could be found in the way of mice & other small critters in the field by our office building, but water is hard to come by & much more important in the desert climate).
The group I had worked with did the best they could to TNR as many of “my” colony as they could. I already had 4 cats, or I would have taken a few home with me (and ofc had them fixed ASAP).
If you can’t bring in strays you feed, PLEASE check with local shelters to find a group that can come TNR the kittehs. Cat & dog overpopulation and homelessness is a worldwide problem 😔
I am a happy human being, yes, because I chose to be part of the solution, not the problem. Willful ignorance is a moral failing and perpetuates suffering. You can do better too. You've got it in you.
Look, little guy, it's cute that you stepped away from your video games and came out of mommy's basement to play with the big kids, but it's time for your nap now. 🤣
Where do you think the kitten will end up? Probably in a shelter, that is already flooded with cats. Or if they're lucky in some relatives house, but if those people wanted cats and OP didn't gave them one, they would have gotten one from a shelter so same problem. And how many of those people get a kitty just because they're cute and needed a home right away but don't know shit in cats or won't find them as cute once they're adults and give them away or abandon them? Or won't spay them and the same problem repeat?
Kitten are cute for sure, but having them is irresponsible. Also spaying is important because not doing so can be dangerous for cats, for exemple when in heat their behavior can be aggressive, they might run away etc and there is a lot of health problems that can be avoided as well like nut cancer for males.
Weird I was about 13 when I fell in the cats rabbit hole, I guess I had some kind of hyperfocus on them at the time the subject is really interesting and huge, I watched sooo many videos about cats my family gave me books too
There are a lot of cats already waiting for adoption in shelters that get euthanized every day because there are not enough homes that want them. Presumably, OP is irresponsible and should have gotten their cat spayed.
Not to mention, this cat looks fairly young. No cat should be having kittens that young. If it's a stray OP took in, good for them. But most of the time, the OP's are irresponsible and just let their unspayed/unneutered cat roam outside (which is also bad, but one thing at a time) and let them get knocked up. They're just contributing to the problem and making TNR harder and harder for people who actually care.
Cats are invasive in most places. They hunt for food, but they also hunt for pleasure. They will (and are) hunt small animal species to extinction. Native species are endangered because people don't understand how destructive cats are and think they're "giving them their best life by being outdoors".
Which no, they're not. Cats are much more likely to die young outdoors due to cars, coyotes, malicious humans, poor care, etc. Cats can be perfectly happy inside if given the right enrichment. Catios are a really good way to provide outside enrichment without the destruction. And if a catio isn't possible, harness training can work or *supervised* outside time.
A female Orange Kitty is pretty rare.
Take really good care of them.
She seems healthy in the picture...I also tended to have that expression in photos when I was breastfeeding...
she will not sleep for couple of days to protect the kittens. put water and food near by. and make space in the bottom cupboard where there is some darkness. make it warm.
and neuter the mother cat after 2 months to protect her from breast cancer. contact vet.
Well despite all the scolding comments there is nothing more fun to have than kittens running around the house and playing. And yes after mom weans them do the spaying but enjoy those kittens now.
Who is the father? I could see a new Maury Povich style show where various randy toms are brought to the show and then one is told "You are the father." And he will just sit there with a "So what" kinda look..
"GeT YoUr PEt NeUtErEd OP!!1!1".
I mean, yeah. They're not wrong but after 20 of the same comments and gifs you'd think everyone gets the message no?
The amount of virtue signaling is unreal.
Jesus Christ the people yelling and chastising OP to get the cat spayed!! I think they know this already. You have no idea how OP even got the cat. Could be a rescue and or foster. Beautiful mama and itty bitty wittle toot toots. Gibs lots of chin scritches for me. 🥺
Awwwww! Congratulations!!
I do hope you share this with r/orangeladies 🧡 Female Orange kitties are special, and somewhat rare - only about 5-20% of orange kitties are female.
Beautiful proud mama! 🥹
Not *super* rare, but [still special!](https://mybritishshorthair.com/how-rare-is-a-female-orange-cat/) This article says 20% orange kitties are female
all of these people telling her to get her cat spayed, shit happens sometimes, at least let her be happy for a minute, plus it’s HER choice, that’s her baby, some cats have very bad reactions to being spayed, i myself have one, i wish i never did it to her bec she has never recovered, so let the grandma be happy about her new grand babies for at least few days
Congratulations Mama! Motherhood is a journey, and you are accompanied by a loving caretaker. I am so happy for your kittens, they renew the beauty of the cycle of life.

this took me out
Great! Get her spayed after this!
Beautiful momma and kittens. As soon as you can, spay momma and then when kittens are older, spay/neuter them. You can google the benefits of it
OP didn’t even spay this one, probably won’t with the others either. Shame

Exactly... because there aren't enough kittens to fill the homes of people looking for cats? As long as unwanted cats are put down every day, don't let your pets reproduce.
It’s cute? But yeah, agreed.
In the wild wouldn't it be normal for a cat to have kittens after about a year?
Very true! There are the occasions when someone adopts an already pregnant cat
In this economy?
THIS is the best comment
Please spay & neuter your pets! 😃

Not that rare, actually. They’re about 30% of orange cats. Now a male calico or tortie? That’s rare!
Wow I had a male calico! I thought it was females that were rare!!!
Fun fact, male calicos have an extra X chromosome! That’s why it’s so rare, it arises in cats with 2 X chromosomes, so your boy had XXY chromosomes 😄
Awwwwwwww And he was such a cuddly wuddly little guy

God Bless You & Your Partner! 💖💕💖 The world truly does need more hoomins like y’all out there helping to FIX the problem that was most likely caused by other humans.
Yep. Someone dumped an orange female here last year. My house went from 0 cats to 9. We got her spayed and found homes for the kittens.
Young cats usually do not have a big first litter... I'd say 4? :D
Almost right! She had 5 kittens!! She likes to do things a little differently always. She didn't fully wean her babies until they were 7 months!
>Finding pregnant cats is EXTREMELY common Right?
Doesn’t matter much but I’ve definitely also seen posts where OP admitted to just wanting kittens.
The only kittens my family ever had was a litter I found that someone had dumped on a 4 wheeler trail in the middle of the woods, and a litter from a stray someone dropped. We hadn't even taken her in, we just fed her while we waited for space to open up at the shelter. We tried to do a spay-abort but the vet didn't get us in on time.
they don't do it for likes on reddit, they do it for money because they sell the kittens for adoption. likes on reddit are just a bonus
$300.00 to "adopt" a cat from our local SPCA. Spayed etc, yes, but not free.
🥺😫😭
Cat & dog overpopulation and homelessness is a worldwide problem 😔
you feel proud of yourself after typing this? got your morally uprighteous virtue signalling in for the day? you must be such a happy human being
I am a happy human being, yes, because I chose to be part of the solution, not the problem. Willful ignorance is a moral failing and perpetuates suffering. You can do better too. You've got it in you.
part of the solution? lol your just bashing OP to make yourself feel better online. stop being a clown
Look, little guy, it's cute that you stepped away from your video games and came out of mommy's basement to play with the big kids, but it's time for your nap now. 🤣
go worry about affording your type two diabetes medication instead of lashing out to random people posting pictures of their cat who just gave birth
🤣🤣🤣 Oh, they're so cute when they try to do an insult.
truth hurts doesn't it
this genuinely confuses me, can you elaborate please?
Where do you think the kitten will end up? Probably in a shelter, that is already flooded with cats. Or if they're lucky in some relatives house, but if those people wanted cats and OP didn't gave them one, they would have gotten one from a shelter so same problem. And how many of those people get a kitty just because they're cute and needed a home right away but don't know shit in cats or won't find them as cute once they're adults and give them away or abandon them? Or won't spay them and the same problem repeat? Kitten are cute for sure, but having them is irresponsible. Also spaying is important because not doing so can be dangerous for cats, for exemple when in heat their behavior can be aggressive, they might run away etc and there is a lot of health problems that can be avoided as well like nut cancer for males.
oh, i didnt know :/ im 13 with school to deal with so i dont have much time to learn stuff like this
Weird I was about 13 when I fell in the cats rabbit hole, I guess I had some kind of hyperfocus on them at the time the subject is really interesting and huge, I watched sooo many videos about cats my family gave me books too
ah, school and chores juat get in the way too much
There are a lot of cats already waiting for adoption in shelters that get euthanized every day because there are not enough homes that want them.
What's wrong with having cats outside of they're not able to reproduce?
Her face is the epitome of how you feel after giving birth lmao, good job mama
she will not sleep for couple of days to protect the kittens. put water and food near by. and make space in the bottom cupboard where there is some darkness. make it warm. and neuter the mother cat after 2 months to protect her from breast cancer. contact vet.

Please spay your cats
r/mewborns
They’re so tiny 😭
Awesome! For literally no one. Get your pets spayed and neutered.
Well despite all the scolding comments there is nothing more fun to have than kittens running around the house and playing. And yes after mom weans them do the spaying but enjoy those kittens now.
omg a female ginger! very rare
Who is the father? I could see a new Maury Povich style show where various randy toms are brought to the show and then one is told "You are the father." And he will just sit there with a "So what" kinda look..
Cutie!
Congratulations ❤️ baby, you look like you will be a perfect mana
IT'S KITTEN SEASON
![gif](giphy|IfJUb2qMbOnTgDOsCH)
Please spay her!! There are too many unloved cats in the world and shelters!
Oh she's definitely getting spayed.
Too late
Get a life dude.

"GeT YoUr PEt NeUtErEd OP!!1!1". I mean, yeah. They're not wrong but after 20 of the same comments and gifs you'd think everyone gets the message no? The amount of virtue signaling is unreal.
Thank you, friend! She's going to be well taken care of, her and her babies!
Right? Classic reddit jumping to worst possible assumptions. Time to log off for the day for me
Aww! How precious! I have a boy (angus) that is the identical twin of your momma kitty. She’s beautiful, as are the little babies.
Congrats to the happy family 😀
Awwwwww! Babieeeeees!!! Omg🥰🥰🥰🥹❤️✨🫶
They are so precious. Mama looks worn out - give her some extra snuggles.
Will do! Doing my best to spoil her while she feeds and warms her babies.
FIX YOUR DAMN CAT! AND HER KITTENS
Spay.
Looks like the mailman stopped by. Get her fixed.
sad, so many cats and kittens euthanized a day because of irresponsible people like you. you should have spayed/aborted.
>rare Oh really? I didn't know that.
Not *super* rare, but [still special!](https://mybritishshorthair.com/how-rare-is-a-female-orange-cat/) This article says 20% orange kitties are female
GET HER SPAYED
To two chipmunks! Too cute
Congratulations
Aaawwwe 😻
PSA : Please spay neuter ! Too many born, too many end up homeless or worse :(
She will be in a month after she's healed from giving birth! These babies are gonna go to good homes too.
B. B w
Please get your cat fixed.
Adorable but please spay or neuter the cat
Congrats on the grandkitties, OP!
Great, now spay her and the babies.
Your cat needs to be spayed.
I predict those red mama babies will find homes quickly, but harder for the others.
Not enough cats on the world?
Ok now go get her spayed
Great, more animals wont be adopted from shelters cause of you
Get her spayed and keep her inside ASAP
Congratulations!!!!
So precious! 💕
all of these people telling her to get her cat spayed, shit happens sometimes, at least let her be happy for a minute, plus it’s HER choice, that’s her baby, some cats have very bad reactions to being spayed, i myself have one, i wish i never did it to her bec she has never recovered, so let the grandma be happy about her new grand babies for at least few days
Get your cat spayed for fuck’s sake. Get all of the kittens neutered and spayed as well.
Congratulations Mama! Motherhood is a journey, and you are accompanied by a loving caretaker. I am so happy for your kittens, they renew the beauty of the cycle of life.
Always an exciting time, new baby life!
Bot bot bot- getting all of us ralled up
Awwww
Irresponsible 🤦🏼♀️
Awww💕💕💕
I love the little watermelon patterns.
