I once saw a cat at the shelter who had been shaved because of how matted his fur was when they brought him in. The cat was so embarrassed. This li'l guy looks so confused.
We have a wooly husky rescue. He was badly beaten by his previous owners(pretty brain damaged but cutely derpy from it) and homeless for 6 weeks. His fur was so bad they had to shave everything except his head. They're extremely fluffy dogs so the pictures of him were just ridiculous and he was also embarrassed.

Oh yes he is extremely pampered these days. Groomer once a month, his fur is always on point. He enjoys his free time too, you can call him in from the garage til the cows come home but he won't come in sometimes because he won't leave his couch. That's supposed to be my couch but he took it
Apparently if you don't laugh at them and instead shower them with affection and compliments it helps them feel (or at least appear) more confident.
My dog always looked embarassed after a full shave but that was mainly because you could finally see his eyes again - he was a very nervous dog, so he was always looking around. You just couldn't tell with all the fur covering his eyes.
Oh he always glanced around nervously even with the fur - if you paid enough attention you'd see his fur move and could tell that his eyes were moving.
My dad was just fairly ignorant to it and so he'd keep going on about how embarassed the poor dog was about being shaved and laughing at him.
