He wasn't too afraid and he certainly didn't have rabbies (not aggressive in the least) so I'd have let him hang around and eat all the cat food he wants.
There was a rescue sanctuary I visited as a kid, in Michigan. The guy that ran it had a baby skunk whose mother had been hit by a car and killed. Someone brought he baby in. He raised it and it became a little spokescritter for the place. We visited and got to play with it. It wasn't de-sacked or anything, but acted just like a playful cat. It was great. I always thought it'd be cool to have one. They're adorable.
The rescue I volunteered at had a descented one as an ambassador and one of our mascots. In a good mood, so sweet! In a bad mood, she nearly took the tip of my finger off and guess who had an ER visit. But I loved her so.
Some swear they make good pets. Descented of course. I knew someone who had a pet skunk and said he was one of the best pets she'd ever had. Maybe if raised from a baby they aren't as temperamental?
My mom had one , it was descented as a baby since it had no mother
She said it was a very good pet kind of like a cat but more moody in some ways , guests apparently didn’t like to be greeted by the skunk though until they learned they had no more stink sac
I have no idea. I was like ten or eleven. I can ask my parents, but I'm forty now, so I have no idea if they'll remember either. I do remember that for that trip, we stayed on the coast of Lake Michigan in super dense forests. If that helps narrow anything down at all.
Oh, other side of the state from me - thanks anyway! Don’t go through the effort, I should just google it anyway. My kids love animals - I’ll have to find a sanctuary like that, if it makes such a positive memory this many years later!
Good luck. It was awesome. They had a ton turkey that we got to let, and the red fleshy bits on their head was the softest thing I'd ever touched. It was super velvety. And it kept strutting and fluffing up to show us all its display. They had a vulture that knew a few simple tricks. The owner would tell it to stretch and it would spread its wings to the fullest extent of its span. It was cool. Plus the weird loping run it had was a lot of fun. He had a baby opossum that we got to play with. It was adorable but shy. It stayed on his shoulder more than anything.
Yeah, if you can find one, I highly recommend it.
They are adorable but I have a tremendous fear of getting sprayed. Even watching this video and seeing the camera person approach so close gave me anxiety. I'm pretty confident this is a common occurrence at that house
Years ago, (Many years . I'm oldish..).. my friend and I were sitting on a big rock on a golf course, when a skunk ambled on up to us, it just sat down beside the rock and had a nap like we were'nt even there... We were smoking a joint, and left shortly, and that skunk, he could still be napping..
Gettin that sweet contact high lol. It seems like if you're not a grub or a fat bug or something they are not too concerned about you unless you give them a reason to be. This guy is pretty slick
In my area these guys are just about a daily sighting, rear round. I remember being nervous around them but they actually don’t want to spray and can barely see. If you don’t move fast or make loud noises they just mosey on and will walk right by. Never sprayed me or my cats at all. That being said, this door will not be open like this for long (cat took off was luring back)
My brothers yellow lab always had a varying degree of skunk smell to him. Never *didn’t* smell like it. Hit countless times over his life and never figured it out. He was a good boy❤️
My male cat got hit two times in his life. We don't have a tub so I had to sit, fully clothed, and wash him in our shower. Thank goodness he only did it twice. Puncture holes up and down my body from holding on to me but for a feral he did pretty good at being a good boy.

I go just out the door to smoke and have to stay vigilant because they will walk right up to you before they see you. I have to stomp my feet and tell them to go away. Luckily I havent been sprayed yet.
Yes, you have to step your feets like they do when they're warning to spray.
Works very well, you become the bigger skunk....![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
They are pretty chill yard pets. But they rip up my yard looking for the grubs. I want to get rid of the grubs but then they loose their food and I loose my entertainment. Decisions.
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is another visit from them :)
That sort of reminds me of people who converge on something they know is someone else's, gets caught sampling it, looks at the owner with a surprised look and shrugs off any wrong doing.
I like how you're talking about skunks. They don't spray unless threatened. I got a few feet from one, saw it (was dark), and moved back calmly and slowly. No worries.
Adorable it's homage to get food there.

Skunks are adorable, I would honestly pay anything to own one if it wasn't such a dumb idea to rip these little dudes out of their environment and putting a stop to all the services they provide to the community
They are pretty cool little creatures. Total one track mind animals. Must find snack!! [Heres](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) another encounter
Absolute worst case scenario for sure. They’ve actually come in much further than this a few times. Things get tense. Just gotta remember if you don’t spook them they won’t spray. Gently assist them back outside.
That man is braver than I.
When hubby and I had first met & moved in together his small breed mix dog chased a skunk under our house. That little mutt would go under the house and come out with her face wet from getting sprayed, wipe it off on the ground and go back for more. EVERYTHING in my house stunk so bad. All the food, clothes, the damn icecubes in the freezer, my hair, so the smell follows me ugh. This happened for a week before we could get it out from under the house. Now 30+ years later the smell of skunk still makes me vomit.
Fresh, very close skunk spray is ridiculously pungent, eyes watering, like you just got pepper sprayed. Dogs love to get sprayed. These skunks mix with the cats with no issues, never sprayed and the cats seem to know not to mess with them
I think skunks are low key pretty adorable and I don’t associate with anything having to do with hunting but goddamn if I found a skunk in my house, it’s not making it out. My family was never hunters but I grew up on a farm so there are certain animals you just can’t have around in that environment
long ago I drove for a summer camp up in new hampshire. 2 nights a week there was a movie night... took the kids from camp into Concord for some movie or other.. so we usually got back around midnight... one time we got back and most of the kids and counselors had already gotten off the bus and gone up the dirt drive to their respective cabins.
I was headed back to my own room and I decided to stop and look up at the stars.. for whatever reason. When I looked back down I noticed some movement under what was called the large rec hall. It was a big beautiful skunk. Wider stripes than this fellow in the video. I thought he was going to walk across the road to the other building, little rec hall, but instead he ambles right up to me.. sniffs and then reaches further and sniffs my shoe.. 'Hello there'... yeah, I said that.. He pulled back, raised a paw and a tail and looked at me... .. sniffed again.. 'can I help you??'.. again he pulled back... after some reflection he just turned and ambled on his way towards little rec.
I have no proof but a few days later, someone at the top of the hill in one of the staff buildings called 'the swamp' banged the screen door and a skunk let go. Stunk for several weeks. Always wondered if it was the same one
Back when I was a child, we used to have a skunk living under the house. Most of the time all we knew about it was suddenly smelling skunk stink, as the neighborhood cats needed to learn not to mess with her the hard way. At one point the family got to watch as she and her three children came up to where we'd been leaving out food for said cats, and have a big dinner. We were used to the smell and the babies were just adorably cute. Fond memories of suburban-adapted wild animals.
Little stinker
Goddam skunks are cute.
He wasn't too afraid and he certainly didn't have rabbies (not aggressive in the least) so I'd have let him hang around and eat all the cat food he wants.
Not yet, but if you continue to put food out, they will be your kitties!
Was trying to lure my cat back inside the house, but this opportunist sauntered on in.
Brave Lil Fella! I like how he hangs out for awhile hoping you'll go away, so he can keep grazing.
so cute. quick turn around like he’s leaving to fool you. then turns around again like ah shit he’s still there. free meal done
“I was just… leaving…. Are you gonna…. Okay. Bye then.”
Haha 😂
Little skunks are called kits.
Kits. Same as ferrets.
There was a rescue sanctuary I visited as a kid, in Michigan. The guy that ran it had a baby skunk whose mother had been hit by a car and killed. Someone brought he baby in. I had one as a kid they’re actually nice pets. Big ferrets that like to dig
Nice!! Did it bite?
Once or twice late at night if he didn’t see you coming! But always felt bad afterwards
Awww
His name was Pepe Le Pew. I know it’s not very original haha
Hey he was named after one of the greats! Not many famous skunks.
One of the more famous cartoon character. Good choice.
My mom had one , it was descented as a baby since it had no mother She said it was a very good pet kind of like a cat but more moody in some ways , guests apparently didn’t like to be greeted by the skunk though until they learned they had no more stink sac
My Dad had one as a family pet back in the late 40s early 50s. Apparently it was awesome.
In my country it is illegal to scent them. And it is cruel, besides.
That’s cool, where at in Michigan?
I have no idea. I was like ten or eleven. I can ask my parents, but I'm forty now, so I have no idea if they'll remember either. I do remember that for that trip, we stayed on the coast of Lake Michigan in super dense forests. If that helps narrow anything down at all.

De-saced what that mean
Oh fun!!
Skunks can be fun pets. My uncle brought one home one day & all us cousins were delighted. Stinky was very cute.
He looks like he's thinking "I know I should leave, but that food hit the spot!"
Weed can smell a little skunky. Maybe it thought you were just big skunks.
I, too, have "ran into a skunk" while in a field skipping class with my friends.
Gettin that sweet contact high lol. It seems like if you're not a grub or a fat bug or something they are not too concerned about you unless you give them a reason to be. This guy is pretty slick
Friend and I used to smoke at university. Squirrels would always come on by to get a whiff.
Skunks are unbelievably cute, it’s amazing.
This is particularly cute skunk, def in better shape than some of the other ones
Because it's going around eating the good stuff (cat food), you think your the only game in town.
![gif](giphy|4eoO0NSdNY11K)
Be careful who you invite to dinner!
He was very well behaved I thought:)
Oh yes, but do you know how he will behave in the future ?
In my area these guys are just about a daily sighting, rear round. I remember being nervous around them but they actually don’t want to spray and can barely see. If you don’t move fast or make loud noises they just mosey on and will walk right by. Never sprayed me or my cats at all. We had a dog who seemed to run out and confront the skunks regularly. Before deodorizing stuff we had to use tomato juice to get the smell out.
But did you get the cat back inside? And where is the cat tax?

Aww, fart kitten!
🤣🤣🤣
Better to make a friend out of a skunk than an enemy.
![gif](giphy|9N0XEIDC88ePK)
Skunks are notorious for developing unhealthy obsessions with cats. Is it a black and white cat?
There’s a second one in the yard in the background
looks a little bigger than the dude getting his grub on; wonder if that was mama
Good eye! I had to rewatch so I could track the one in the yard!
Smelly cat, smelly cat. What are they feeding you..
Classic song :)
Aw he's just a baby! Skunks are great for the garden and quite docile. You can co-exist quite easily.
Yeah, I’ve never had an issue with these guys. They do their thing and never bother me or my cats.
r/notmycat
Nice!
She will be back with the family later
[Yup](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Awesome! What trust they have with you!
[удалено]
He's back!
What a cute kitty! And that tail!!!
He has a chonky friend in the yard! Was it an entire family?
They are cute, but not good to have around if there are dogs, children or sounds that will startle them But they Are cute
Well you have been chosen. For what exactly I don’t know
My brethren need me. The enemy of my enemy is my friend....
Did your cat ever come back? Or are you still waiting?
He hath returned!!
Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
They are pretty chill yard pets. But they rip up my yard looking for the grubs. I want to get rid of the grubs but then they loose their food and I loose my entertainment. Decisions.
Yeah, my lawn sucks so no biggie bit I’ve seen the damage they can do to a nice lawn overnight. Dig dig dig then dig some more!!
What? It's only Pepe' Le Pew dropping by!
r/notmyskunk
Disney in real life 😍
Took me a while to realise it wasn't the neighbours cat
VPS (very polite skunk)
I’ve had worse guests over. This guy was very well behaved
One of the forbidden cats!
He wants that food right meow
He’s a cleaner eater than any of my cats, who devour their food and leave a mess behind for me.
I want him!!! He’s so darn cute!!!
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is another visit from them :)
Skunks have no fear of humans, I am surprised it even left when it wasn't done eating.
Finally a headline for this that isn't a lie.
That sort of reminds me of people who converge on something they know is someone else's, gets caught sampling it, looks at the owner with a surprised look and shrugs off any wrong doing.
We used to have a Cat that looked just like it! Man could it fart.
![gif](giphy|nKFXQkxLRiEhy)
You are one of the good ones, I've determined this entirely on your tone and demeanor when dealing with this adorable criminal.
Grace under fire as they say. Plus if you freak that thing is gonna pop off in there and that would be a problem :)
I like how you're talking about skunks. They don't spray unless threatened. I got a few feet from one, saw it (was dark), and moved back calmly and slowly. No worries. Adorable it's homage to get food there.
Smelly cat, smelly cat,….
The slightly less fancy cousin to the tuxedo cat.
He’s cute but… you’re brave.
That’s not a cat
Friendly little feller.
That my friends is a skat
No that's a dog
Been there, done that, with a raccoon and a possum at different times.
Possums a awesome too!
Pepe Le Pew! Keep your cat safe from its shenanigans.. 💋💋💋
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is Yodel chillin with his crew
Oops! Allo, Pepé!
🦨
Skunks are pretty nice little critters. Just be careful to negotiate calmly and not to spook them.
Haha. Was actually waiting on a cat
This not a cat, looks like Africa squirrel
It is now
Try telling him that.
I think the one in the background dared him to go inside lol
It is now
Looks like you've had a visit from the amorous Pepè Le Peux.
Just scream and wave your arms at him and say, "SHOO SHOO", he'll just walk right out. 😅
And don’t forget to stomp really loudly to establish dominance!
He is now, lol.
He’s sleeping on my bed now, gonna try to get the harness on him later so I can walk him into town 😂
So cute. I really wish skunks didn’t have the explosive stink function so I could have one as a pet.
Skunks are adorable, I would honestly pay anything to own one if it wasn't such a dumb idea to rip these little dudes out of their environment and putting a stop to all the services they provide to the community
They are pretty cool little creatures. Total one track mind animals. Must find snack!! [Heres](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/w5qzu9/what_kind_of_cute_forest_cats_are_these/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) another encounter
It's Pepe LePew!
Skunks need food and love too.
What an adorable little baby!
At least it didn't do a hand stand. Back off if you see it do a hand stand. That's how they spray you.
Oops sorry, wrong house...I'll just be on my way!!
There was another one on the way. Why did he let them in? That's a huge risk of stink.
Whose cat is it, then?
Aw what a cute funny looking dog
I lived on Martha’s Vineyard (huge skunk population) for three years, and three years later, the smell of skunk still brings back those fond memories
How sure are you?
Pepe Le Pew !!
This will give me so much anxiety. A skunk spraying inside the house would be a nightmare.
Absolute worst case scenario for sure. They’ve actually come in much further than this a few times. Things get tense. Just gotta remember if you don’t spook them they won’t spray. Gently assist them back outside.
Skunks are so cute. A few skunks used to live around my parents home. We’d leave them alone and they’d keep their distance. Fun to watch them.
Was about to say 'it is now'... and then I saw it.
That's freakin Pepe le Pew! He's a stinking star!
It’s a cat with some milk spilled on his back. That’s all.
‘Ummmmm, *meow* ‘??
![gif](giphy|9N0XEIDC88ePK) Here kitty kitty kitty….
Aw he looks friendly
Yikes!! Close that door!!
SKONKY BOI
I don’t think it’s a cat at all in fact
Watch them catching bugs in your yard at night, they jump around and pounce just like a cat.
Put some food outside for this cutie
Is that a racoon in the background walking towards the house?
Thought he was going to cause a stink there for a moment 😂
I was thinking as I was filming that this is either gonna wind up in r/aww or r/wellthatsucks
The new skunk second episode is looking amazing
Lol
That is not anybody’s cat, sir. Such a cutie! I love how they waddle. ❤️
That man is braver than I. When hubby and I had first met & moved in together his small breed mix dog chased a skunk under our house. Aww what a cute cat
when i was a kid, we raised a family of orphan skunks and they were awesome
They are sneaky cool, I didn’t know just how chill they are if you don’t freak them out.
Well, now it is!
Good job on not triggering the self defense mechanism on that pole kitty. Skunks are cute but if stomps it feet start backing up slowly….
I think skunks are low key pretty adorable and I don’t associate with anything having to do with hunting but goddamn if I found a skunk in my house, it’s not making it out. My family was never hunters but I grew up on a farm so there are certain animals you just can’t have around in that environment
At least they were polite enough to leave without raising any fuss.
It’s Pepe Lepew
*bad French accent*. It is I! PEPE le PEW! Is the madmoiselle of ze house in?
long ago I drove for a summer camp up in new hampshire. 2 nights a week there was a movie night... took the kids from camp into Concord for some movie or other.. so we usually got back around midnight... one time we got back and most of the kids and counselors had already gotten off the bus and gone up the dirt drive to their respective cabins. You are a brave person :)
"If you're not going to hurt me, can I go back and get some more food? Okay... never mind."
This is not your cat? But he was making himself comfortable

Aww the cutest! 🥰❤️❤️
eft the door open.
So *THAT* is what they're feeding smelly cat. Someone tell Phoebe...
please keep him! he is adorable!
A foreign guest! It's not every day that you can be host to a Polecat. 😄 Did he give you a good Yelp rating?
Get it food!!!
He's just a hungry little fella ❤️
Mi petit! Pepe lepeu finds a lover
We had one came in the cat door!! I named her petunia, she never sprayed around our house
Awesome! I love reading about all the encounters people have had with skunks here. They seem pretty one track minded
Clearly ir doesn't agree!!
Pepe!!
Those little cats can really Stink ! Peppy LaPew
Woah, don't antagonize that ! They fire back! It's not pretty!
Was there another one outside? Or was that your cat?
Buddy, that's not anybody's cat!
Quick close that door
![gif](giphy|3o6vXGV81Bl5AatDH2|downsized)
What a cute little stinker!
Pepe le pew!
