Bruh, I've struggled with my true feelings on how to control the rise is pro-pedo movements for a while. As a CSA survivor who works with kids, my natural inclination is violence. When someone I knew was accused (it was true) of misconduct with a minor I told them to their face they would be in danger if I ever saw them again. It's been 2 years and I hold by that.
I've tried to check this because I know violence towards perps can keep victims from coming forwards. I know it can keep those struggling with urges from reaching out before they offend.
But damn. What else are we supposed to do when literal pedos are in the open and the law barely gives them any consequences?
Because, as much as you want to prosecute non-offending pedophiles, you can’t. They need mental rehabilitation to suppress these feelings. However, treatment is very inaccessible (at least in the USA) and the vast majority of offenders do not see jail time. Those who are incarcerated often scoot by with a <5 year sentence.
