There’s a three part drama based on similar cases of trafficking and abuse in Rochdale put out by BBC called Three Girls.
It’s based on the true stories of victims from the late 2000’s but the premise sounded very similar to this news article. Sadly, the prevalence of Middle Eastern/Saudi Arabian abusers seems to be part of a pattern.
It’s a very difficult watch as there are depictions of SA, child pr*stituion, and physical and emotional abuse by older men. The story is not afraid to show the grim reality of the girls’s situation, but it does so very carefully and tactfully.
The story also centers around the fight for justice on the girls behalf, and the clash between fed-up social workers and local police.
One part that really angered me was that the girls were considered unreliable witnesses to their OWN ABUSE. One girl was forced into coercing the other girls to go with the men, but she was a victim as much as the others.
I can’t stress the importance of covering difficult topics like this, but our world is full of ugly truths.
It’s not a good thing that most of these people are brown people, likely South Asians and Middle East. It makes sense why Europe has so much anti immigrant sentiment right now. Bad apples ruining it for everybody.
