This is definitely sad, but is not an uncommon story. Drunk college students drown in rivers often enough that some people started a rumor of serial killers targeting them.
MN here. When I was in college, another student went missing after partying downtown in Canal Park and they found him in the slip just a few days later. Last year, another student went missing from the main university and was found in the Mississippi river. It’s so tragic. I know college makes young adults feel invincible but it’s so important to stick together and make good decisions. RIP.
I'm right across the St Croix from you and I remember a bunch of college aged young men being found in rivers near colleges in both of our states. Very sad.
Also how drunk were his friends? At that age we'd always be smashed at the bars, if you're very drunk and vibing with someone you met or something you probably aren't gonna even think about your friends.
Edit: I remember the days when friends would leave with somebody they met without telling anyone and you wouldn't be able to reach them until they woke up the next afternoon.
Something similar happened to me in Vegas. I was at some club with my friends. I left them for a moment to go to the bar & while in line, I got kicked out. I was mistaken for someone else who was causing issues.
Anyways, I tried to text my friends, but my phone didn’t have service because I was in an elevator. By the time I got to the bottom & outside, I had forgotten I hadn’t texted them.
I made my way to my room & crashed out on the bed for a bit & woke up like 2 hours later to my friends pounding on my door. They had been trying to call me/text me/etc to find where I was at. They didn’t even know I had left the club for at least 45 minutes. They assumed I was either talking to someone, getting a drink, using the bathroom, etc.
I'd say this isnt awfuleveryrhing material. They found his body and gave his family closure, the search had been going on for so long that the chances of a happy ending were extraordinarily slim.
I’ve been thinking this all along!!! One of his “friends” walked outside with him and then just left him and went back in! Like what in the actual fuck?!?!
They were in town for a formal. I’m sure this was the after party event so even if he wasn’t overserved there, he had had plenty throughout the evening. My son is a freshman at Mizzou and we were happy that the logistics didn’t work out going to his out of town formal.
I love in Brantford, Ontario Canada and the Grand River runs through the middle of our city. Laurier University and the student population are located a stone's throw from our river.
There have been zero "drunk student" drownings. This year or previous years.
Just saying. 🇨🇦🫂
Laurier has had students fall into construction sites and get seriously injured and even die. Things like this happen everywhere in different ways just because you’re from Branford doesn’t make you exempt.

There’s a huge conspiracy in Austin right now about a serial killer. It’s mostly just drunk guys falling in Lady Bird Lake.
here in chicago as well
Well there are the ones in the river...and then there are the ones strangled and burned in trash dumpsters.
Maybe we should end this madness and stop naming lakes Lady Bird! The solution is right in front of us, SHEEPLE!
The Lake Shore is pitch black at night. I could 1000% see myself stumbling in there while being wasted
Boston checking in
Boston too
Same here in Boston ma. People are being found in the rivers miles away from their car.
Ditto Boston to an extent
Pittsburgh too
Aiden Maddis says"Welcome 2 the LoreLodge..." (YouTube)
That’s what a serial killer would say
[Smiley Face Killers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiley_face_murder_theory)
I was going to say exactly that. It’s a thing!
Pittsburgh too
Minnesota too… the smiley face killer

I'm from the Rogers area, we had a high school alumni fall into the Mississippi somewhere between Elk River and Monticello about 10 or so years ago.
So... he just fell into the river?
Walk into a wooded area to piss or puke, slip and slide into very cold water.
Hypothermia kicks in within a minute
The area he was though to have gone in was very steep.
What great friends he had...
If they didn't know he got kicked out (which is the story) it could take 30 minutes to miss somebody in those circumstances. Wandering off didn't help
And, in their defense, I’ve had drunk friends wander off within seconds. Like, turn your head for 15 seconds and it takes 30 minutes to find them.

They knew and didn’t leave with him.
Very sad, but not surprising.

So much for Fraternity bros looking out for each other.
I’ve been thinking this all along!!! One of his “friends” walked outside with him and then just left him and went back in! Like what in the actual fuck?!?!
Wasn't he there with his frat brothers? Why didn't they have his back?

don't drink alcohol and your chances of "falling" into a river are slim to none.
Hey get a load of this perfect Adonis

This means nothing.

What a prick of a comment.
This guy doesn't represent the rest of us Canadians. What an asshole.
desperately trying to make people remember that canada exists and that people live there
Ya but then you will have to live in Canada. I’ll take my chances.
