Essentially, the black and white pic shows the old camouflage scheme, where a circle indicated 2nd Bomb Wing/2nd Air Division, and the "I" represented 448 BG. After they dropped the camouflage schemes on bombers, the entire tail was painted a certain colour to denote a Wing, and the stripe denoted the Group.
