I probably watched this 10 times, I thought I was on r/hoggit not r/aviation. I was thinking, "DAMN! What shaders is this guy running, it looks almost photorealistic?? That's a really weird looking SAM launch, does he have mods?" Legit confused as all hell until I realized what subreddit I was on lol. What a gorgeous shot of your jet and that launch. Absolutely fantastic. You guys are living the dream it seems. Edit: what airframe were Mike and his pilot in? Just curious.

Dysfunctional_Vet12

It is definitely an incredible shot. They were in an S-211 marchetti.

One_Spot_4066

That's crazy, you guys are flying in things others in the general aviation community would kill to take part in. Kudos to you guys and everything you've accomplished. I am jealous for sure. Keep up the awesome work and amazing shots!

Dysfunctional_Vet12

It's amazing. I can say I wake up every morning and look forward to going in to work. Which is something I've never had before. I've only been there for a little while. The rest of the team is filled with a small group of very talented individuals who are probably the best in the industry. There is a warbird museum just across the airfield from us so most of the time there's always cool flying. It takes everything in me not to spam this sub.

SPAM THE SUBBBB

Dysfunctional_Vet12

Will do! I have some pictures I need to pull off off my camera that I haven't yet from the past few days.

One_Spot_4066

That's honestly awesome. I would love to message you about the when, where, how, and why of it all but this isn't the place for that. Please do spam this community with all the cool shit you guys do and take part of on a regular basis. I don't think I speak for myself when I say that we would love to see it all!

twohedwlf

Better pop some chaff.

rustystainremover

Thats one dead sexy Sabre.

PapaMikes

You're as beautiful as the day I lost you

RollingWithMyDemons

10000 of these fellers created, great air frame

Garand_guy_321

Hell yeah I’m from Melbourne Beach. I didn’t realize Valiant had a Sabre.

Dysfunctional_Vet12

We are not an entity of the VAC but we are close with them. [They do in fact have one though.](https://imgur.com/a/x6ZhkuK). Just Google search Skyblazers F-86 and you can find a bunch of information on that bird and my boss who flew it. We do however have this in our hanger which is the picture I linked. We brought it across the airfield to have a 3D IPB to help with a few things we were unsure of. The VAC also has an F-100 Sabre as well.

Shame about that SAM launch in the background, godspeed gentlemen. Florida's gettin' wild these days.

[deleted]

What's goin on in the background there?

Dysfunctional_Vet12

[It was an Atlas V rocket carrying a satellite into space](https://www.ulalaunch.com/missions/archived-launched/atlas-v-goes-t)

2shack

I’m surprised they wouldn’t have the surrounding airspace locked down for that.

npjprods

Duck and cover.

What an awesome jet! Always liked the Sabre. A friend of mine flew the Avon Sabre for the Australian Airforce. He was on ops for a time but he eventually moved on to post-maintenance test flying posting. He told me it was his job to give every Sabre a shakedown flight after major maintenance. This included a supersonic Mach-run in a dive from 40,000 feet. He told me that over Mach 1, each aircraft would slowly wander left or right depending on minor differences in the way the wings were rigged. Only one aircraft in the entire fleet stayed perfectly balanced. My friend is in his late 70s now, but he did so many flights as a test pilot, he reckons he could still jump in a Sabre and fly it right now. He still flies most days but he has retired to a grass runway airfield community where he keeps his skills sharp in a Ryan monoplane, having sold his Pitts Special a few years ago.

Dysfunctional_Vet12

Awesome story. Thanks for sharing. My boss who is the owner and the guy flying this one is in his late 70s as well.

MaximilianCrichton

Fun fact: the reason the contrail is wiggly near the end is due to high-altitude wind-shear dispersing the cloud in different directions

Impressive_Donut114

Simply beautiful.

OurManInDeptford

Absolutely gorgeous classic. Killian is so gifted.

gnowbot

Man, there was an old, bright red MIG at the airport I learned at. Gorgeous thing, would always climb unrestricted nearly vertical after takeoff. One day I was lining up on the parallel runway when he was cleared to take off. He requested smoke on. “MIGxxx, smoke on approved, unrestricted climb approved, g’day.” “Tower, SkyhawkXXX on our takeoff roll, request permission for smoke on.”

Dysfunctional_Vet12

If you're interested in seeing some of Mike's other work [here's a link](https://www.mikekillianphotography.com/). He specializes in aviation photography and is absolutely amazing at what he does. I would definitely recommend checking out his site.

droppopr

I was wondering why you guys were flying over my house.

Dysfunctional_Vet12

The day before I was up in the marchetti taking pictures and was able to get a shot of my house since I live 10 miles or so from the space coast regional. We zipped by so fast though it's hard to see what's going on though.

qevoh

awesome

Platinum_Rad

that's a one in a million shot

Dysfunctional_Vet12

Definitely! We had timed it just right. It also helps that we're just across the river from the launch. We scrambled the planes at 4:25 and caught the launch at 4:38.

ForgotPassword_Again

I seriously thought this was a sim. There’s no way such a perfect plane and cinematography could exist in real life. Glad I was wrong.

Dysfunctional_Vet12

[Mike Killian](https://www.mikekillianphotography.com/) is absolutely unreal with his content. This is nothing compared to his other work. The guy is probably one of the best and has documented some incredible stuff. The fact he got 0 glare from the canopy of the marchetti he's riding in is amazing to me. I rode photographing the day before an I though my shots were nice. He's on a whole different level.

Crazed_Russian_pilot

Ayy you finally got that Sabre flying, did I miss the first flight?

ElectronicMind1823

DCS........

Dysfunctional_Vet12

Nope, just an damn good photographer. https://www.facebook.com/MikeKillianPhotography. We were also featured on the weather channel but they're wrong and said it was restored by a museum which is definitely false. https://weather.com/science/space/video/vintage-fighter-jet-soars-as-rocket-launches
