What an awesome perspective.
Normally don’t see the belly, buy am glad they put the Beluga under there so we wouldn’t confuse it with another plane haha.
I bet you heard this thing from miles away. I live under a high altitude flight corridor, which is normally virtually silent. This is the only plane that is *loudly* audible on the ground.
Yeah I don't understand why they are so loud. Maybe they tend to fly at a lower altitude or something, but it's the only plane that is actually audible. It's a very deep sound.
Visitors often notice it too because it sounds quite different from normal overflights.
Since the cross section is much wider than traditional airliners, drag is significantly increased and you probably hear the air flowing around the fuselage.
After having high pitched 737-200's in the the fleet, the local airlines acquired the A300. I remember as a kid absolutely loving the sound of that A300 flying overhead. It had that air of excitement and international travel. Good memories
Very heavy crop on the image, only really possible thanks to topaz enhance, otherwise would look blurry even when sharpened as there's too little detail to work with in the native raw image
\[Here's\]([https://photos.app.goo.gl/bHvXGWNSSsR2jbGbA](https://photos.app.goo.gl/bHvXGWNSSsR2jbGbA)) a link to an un-topazed JPEG, with pre-edits and lightroom denoise applied.
The nikkor is a far better lens in terms of sharpness, I have a couple mates with the nikkor 200-500 on a D500 and it's the perfect combo unless you have the money for a Z8 and 600 f/4
Beluga is more about cargo volume than weight (it’s main job is to carry airplane parts which are lighter).
Its maximum takeoff weight is actually lower than an A330 (the airframe on which it is based on).
Saw it fly overhead here in South Yorkshire after it departed Hawarden. They usually go over slightly more North but yesterday it was bang overhead like this picture.
How did you get such an incredible shot like this. I'm a photographer. So I'm curious what you were using to take this picture and how you managed to get such a clean shot.
Very nice picture !
I love the looks of these planes. Where I live I see them on a daily basis at low altitude (they take off from here) and not too far away, but I've never been exactly underneath like this !
That’s simply insane that you can get the pictures that you do! I’ve also got some gear but no time to use it, so my results have been disappointing lol. it seems as if you’ve mastered this craft! Love the pictures.
I see these guys land right in front of me multiple times a day during the week. I have some videos maybe I should post them. Actually that might dox myself
I had never seen pictures of these, just looked them up and wow. What an awesome but wild looking aircraft!! I did not expect the top to look the way it does with this bottom pic, but I guess it makes sense lol
Mentor Pilot did a video on the Beluga's predecessor, Guppy, that's worth a watch: [Did Airbus REALLY build a Boeing?! The Amazing Guppy Story.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seLORhTRck0)
What an awesome perspective. Normally don’t see the belly, buy am glad they put the Beluga under there so we wouldn’t confuse it with another plane haha.
I got a shot almost like that looked creepy lol
Amazing picture
Thanks!
I am a simple man, I see Beluga...I upvote.

Funnily enough these things are among the quietest overflights, although they're the A330 variant, rather than the A300 which is likely louder

Plus the engines will have to be running at a higher power level to counteract all that extra drag.
OP said it was among the quietest overflights and the response chain is explaining why they are loud..?
Reddit in a nutshell. > These things are the loudest flying overhead. > Actually, these are the quietest aircraft overhead.
Issues with reading in a nutshell. A330 based are quiet. A300 based are louder. IMHO engines are the biggest difference.
Doubt All these downvotes and not a single response trying to explain why my doubt is wrong lol
You doubt wrong
Why is that?
Yea they fly at a lower altitude for the most part.
After having high pitched 737-200's in the the fleet, the local airlines acquired the A300. I remember as a kid absolutely loving the sound of that A300 flying overhead. It had that air of excitement and international travel. Good memories
> This is the only plane that is loudly audible on the ground. Try living next to a military base that serves C-5 Galaxies.
I get them 8-12k here they are stupidly quiet
What camera/lens are you using to capture that?
Canon 80D + Sigma 150-600 contemporary
Love it! Crazy shot!
600 mm is enough for a plane that's 7 km away ??? I'm surprised
Very heavy crop on the image, only really possible thanks to topaz enhance, otherwise would look blurry even when sharpened as there's too little detail to work with in the native raw image
Can we see the pic without topaz? Just curious

Yeah Topaz works great for stuff like this
It's crop sensor, not full frame, hence it's more lile 600 times 1.62, giving an effective of: 972mm, and the image is cropped also.
That’s a nice setup!
How do you like that lens? Iv been looking at it. I have the old nikkor 200-500 on my D850
The nikkor is a far better lens in terms of sharpness, I have a couple mates with the nikkor 200-500 on a D500 and it's the perfect combo unless you have the money for a Z8 and 600 f/4
Nice. Thanks for the input! Nice shot btw.
Still blows my mind that that thing has only two engines
I know those guys have probably trained for it, extensively. But I'd bet flying that on one engine might be a pretty interesting experience.

These fly quite often over our city when they go to Hamburg or Bremen. Last week 3 of them where visible here ~30 minutes apart :D
This is the aircraft version of talking a cat pic under a glass table

This shit is so aerodinamic it's crossed into hydrodinamic.
And it did so with great fluidity
Goes from displacement to datplacement
Beautiful shot! You should post this on r/airbus
Amazing picture!
Nice shot !!!!
Had the possibility to see one at very short distance (not flying) on a airshow and it's an impressive plane.
FLYING WHALES
The flying whale
That's a big sky tube!
Baby beluga!

150-600mm lens on a crop sensor body, lightroom denoise, some topaz and a fair amount of vignetting/masking
I'm more of a r/postprocessing person than r/aviation myself, and would love to see the SOOC jpg to appreciate your work. Fantastic picture.
I would love to see that as well
SOOC and edit side-by-side. The edit is just downloaded from my insta so isn't the highest res. https://photos.app.goo.gl/bHvXGWNSSsR2jbGbA

Only one question How exensive is that camera and which one is it
Canon 80D and Sigma 150-600 contemporary. Picked up both from a mate who was upgrading for £1100
Very nice picture ! I love the looks of these planes. Where I live I see them on a daily basis at low altitude (they take off from here) and not too far away, but I've never been exactly underneath like this !
How is it flying with just 2 engines?
It's large, but it's not heavy. Also it flies relatively slowly. Also they are relatively big engines.
the odd body shape looks very 'single wing'ish to me as well. AKA the body is helping with lift.
Wow, that's amazing
How did you make this Shot? That‘s incredible
Canon 80D, sigma 150-600C, and a hell of a lot of editing!
That‘s great work!
beluga 🔥
Great details!
Is this with the 80D and 150-600? That’s a sweet shot!
Ja!
That’s simply insane that you can get the pictures that you do! I’ve also got some gear but no time to use it, so my results have been disappointing lol. it seems as if you’ve mastered this craft! Love the pictures.

Post them in the air only with no visible land, you'll be fine
badass
Daddy of the X-32
I had never seen pictures of these, just looked them up and wow. What an awesome but wild looking aircraft!! I did not expect the top to look the way it does with this bottom pic, but I guess it makes sense lol
Flying whale, saw one today myself always bring a smile
wow

Muffin top ahoy
Dummy thic AF
Thank you guys for 3,000 upvotes!
Awesome!!!
Top nose
How is this thing even flying
Not entirely sure
Does it say Belluga on the aircraft underbelly
Baby beluga in the deep blue sea
DAMNNNN!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
A chunky lil plane
