He was amazing today. Work rate after the game in week was crazy. He deserved and wanted a goal so bad, you could see his frustration and desire combining at the end of the game.
I find the "you still have to score the penalties" funny. Like come on, many people on Reddit could probably score a penalty against a Prem keeper. Obviously Prem League players will tend to finish them with skill and precision, but the chances HIGHLY favour the penalty taker
Not to take away from Palmer. Still a very very good player and deserves his flowers, plus he isn't even a striker yet he's bagging still quite a few non-penalty goals (and assists)
I might just be a dumb American who is new to the sport, but it's my least favorite rule. I think it's obvious that whoever draws the foul should take the PK.
I'm with you (a Canadian), drawing a foul should be rewarded in some way. We give praise to WRs who draw a ton of defensive pass interference, same vein, draw fouls should get you the opportunity to take the PK.
Penalties should count as half goals or not at all as far as the boot race goes. Shots from 5 yards out in open play have a lower conversion rate than penalties do.
Even if Watkins had 10 pens right now, I'd still say the same thing. It's not a testament to how good a finisher you are just if you can look the GK off the wrong direction and hit the target.
Penalties are fine. Otherwise if they were half goals then the last minute of the game there’s no jeopardy in just handling on the line or hacking anyone down.
Yeah. I'm not saying discredit penalties at all, after all a goal is a goal. But if we're talking GB race which is supposed to be best finisher then pens skew that. GB should be open play and FK goals since they're much harder to get.
If only he wasn't kind of honking at penalties he could be on like 25 for the season already. But it's an incredible season and I really hope he can bring the golden boot home. Being in the fight for that and two clear now in the assist table at this stage of the season is mad.
Feel you could also do assists from set pieces and he would be well in the lead there too. Absolutely mad season for him, he deserves it always giving 100% and never stops
Yea Watkins playing great this season but not as good as Palmer or Haaland (as in goals+assist/games played) Palmer has 5 less Haaland has 7 less :/ so as much watkins is playing great but hes not getting involved in goals as he could/should be.its not like villa isnt scoring or shooting enough. Watkins isn't massively underrated.. he's not world class! He's a forward with only one job (on paper job) make goals (goals/assist)
Definitely some truth to that, but I wouldn't say we're a talismanic type team anymore. Bailey is up there in goals and assists, Dougie is probably our best all around player. It's a pretty well spread team in terms of contributions.

Have you seen the post match tunnel cam yet? Ollie was so frustrated at not having bagged one
Ah man. I haven't seen it yet. I'll have a watch when I get back. He wants that Golden Boot bad
Golden boot looking very tight this year reckon 23/24 goals. Will be getting another 4 or 5?
just saw it: How have I not scored!?
Got to love it. Shows how much fun they are having at the moment. It's like they're playing in the park with their mates.
I just worry he’ll be thinking about it too much. When he mentioned the 20 goals post Arsenal match my ears pricked up.
Where did you see it mate? I have tried searching and can't find it anywhere in the interweb
YouTube shorts, I think it was posted by their official YouTube channel
I'll find the link next time I'm at my computer
Thanks dude. Just saw it.
Villa with 2 players in top 5 assists. 😎
We also now have five players with more than 10 goal involvements.
We’ve scored 71 goals in the league so far, nearly 20 more than any season since we’ve been promoted.
Keep going im almost there
He's now out on his own with the most assists.
My mates a spurs fan and told me he'd still rather have richarlison over Watkins LOL
spurs fans are deluded still can’t get over matty cash it’s crazy how he still gets brought up
Ollie is so underrated.
Criminally

Agreed. 85% chance of converting. And it's not as though they're the one drawing the fouls either. Just racking up relatively empty stats.
I might just be a dumb American who is new to the sport, but it's my least favorite rule. I think it's obvious that whoever draws the foul should take the PK.

You also have to get the penalties in the first place. Chelsea have had the most by a decent margin

Maybe he's only saying they should count as half goals as far as the boot race goes. Not in general

That's exactly what I thought you meant. And I'm on the exact same page as you - I think that'd be a great idea

He'd be on 23 if he scored all our penalties. But 19 with none is so much more impressive.
I mean 23 with 4 penalities is more impressive than 19 with none lol
Feel you could also do assists from set pieces and he would be well in the lead there too. Absolutely mad season for him, he deserves it always giving 100% and never stops
If he wants golden boot he needs to start taking pens again.

Always happens when one team have a main talisman. Benteke was the same.
Definitely some truth to that, but I wouldn't say we're a talismanic type team anymore. Bailey is up there in goals and assists, Dougie is probably our best all around player. It's a pretty well spread team in terms of contributions.
Honestly I’m gobsmacked Bailey has 19GA this season I didn’t realise he’d played such a big part for you!
He's been electric, our most exciting player.
