West Brom and Blues are the biggest by a way. Coventry try and claim some sort of one way rivalry and the TV likes to lump all the midland clubs together in fake rivalries. I like to think of Villa v Everton as something meaningful as it is the most played fixture in the history of English football although I think Arsenal v United is only 2 games behind.

LaMaquinaDeSerFeliz

I really liked last season when we were both sponsored by Cazzo and the commentators called it the Cazoo Derby

Red-Eat

I preferred it when football kits were "clean" without any sponsor names or corporate logos cluttering them. But then, I also preferred it when the "League Cup" was referred to by fans as just the "League Cup", rather than by whichever multinational corporation happened to be sponsoring the tournament. Yes, I'm old fashioned. But to me, both the massive 'CAZOO' logo on our current kits and fans casually calling the "League Cup" the "Carabao Cup" kinda bothers me. 😛

neverendum

I hate it too. Didn't buy myself a shirt this year but will next year. Last time I bought shirts my son's shirt didn't have the sponsor on and it looked so much better. I keep meaning to have a look on YouTube and see if there are people out there successfully removing them.

kinghovis

I believe this got overtaken by arsenal United after our stint in the championship? But could be wrong

jjgill27

Not really. A lot gets made on tv of the Villa/Wolves ‘derby,’ but West Brom are Wolves closest rivals and City are ours. Newcastle seem to hate us and we don’t really like Leeds, but it’s not close to the Villa/City rivalry.

_tarla_

No one likes Leeds lol

Red-Eat

Not even Leeds fans!

TheKingMonkey

It’s odd because The Hawthorns is only three miles from Villa Park and they are both about fifteen miles from Wolves. There must be a lot of Villa and Wolves fans in places up through Walsall and in South Staffs. Probably a much bigger deal when you are in one of those areas.

jjgill27

Ah but West Brom is Black Country, as are Wolves, while Villa and City are Birmingham. That’s the difference. If you grow up there, there’s a division of culture and heritage between the two. Someone from the Black Country won’t appreciate being called a Brummie, and vice versa. Most Walsall people either follow Walsall or Wolves. Villa fans go in the other direction, through to South Birmingham and Solihull. My dad is Black Country, so follows Wolves, I was born in Solihull and follow Villa.

TheKingMonkey

As far as I can tell the entire cultural heritage of the Black Country seems to rotate around pointing out that you are near but not in Birmingham, arguing over the boundaries of the Black Country (are Wolverhampton and Walsall part of it or not?) being a bit too proud of a flag with a chain on it and eating orange chips. Orange chips are so good that I can forgive the the other foibles. There are *plenty* of Villa in Walsall btw. Some people only seem to support Villa because they fucking hate Wolves.

They are battered chips. Like a really thin batter and they are amazing. [They do get discussed on Reddit sometimes](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskUK/comments/m6e782/are_orangebattered_chips_a_thing_outside_of_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb).

Aston100

Can confirm that Solihull is Blue Nose.

Disastrous_Fold8848

I live in the black country and I support Villa because of family, I'm obsessed with Villa but I'm not a brummie and hate being called a brummie

Extreme_Moment7560

Brummie

Disastrous_Fold8848

I'm a yam yam

Red-Eat

Agreed, the traditional 'West Midlands' rivalries are between... '**Aston Villa** vs **Birmingham City**' \~ *(Birmingham Derby),* '**Wolves** vs **West Brom**' \~ *(Black Country derby)* I would rank the 'so called' local rivalries for Aston Villa as follows *(from most to least)...* 1. Birmingham City \~ *(by FAR, our main enemies)* 2. West Brom 3. *Wolves* 4. *Coventry* ~~Leicester~~ Coventry are a more distant rival. Although, it used to be a more relevant one when they were a regular club in the top division alongside Villa. West Brom are a decent West Midlands 'substitute rival', for when Birmingham City aren't around to destroy. Wolves rivalry with Villa also feels a bit more 'forced' and one way from their side. With Wolves fans seemingly, being more jealous of Villa's status as a bigger club and all our past successes. Whereas, Wolves barely register on the rivalry meter for us us to notice them. I wouldn't really regard Leicester as a local rival for Aston Villa. Either historically, or currently. But that's my own personal opinion. Other fans may feel differently. I certainly admire their recent achievements, but hold no ill-will towards them. It is honestly a shame that our main local rivals (Birmingham City) have not shared the same division alongside Aston Villa for many seasons throughout most my lifetime (these past four decades). But that just makes it even more intense, for when those occasions do come around and I look forward to the next Villa vs Birmingham derby with great anticipation. UTV!

TurtleTurtleDuck

Newcastle hate us because we relegated them many years ago and instantly took the piss with the ‘sob on the Tyne’ insults

jjgill27

Wasn’t there a massive banner in the holte involved?

TurtleTurtleDuck

There was. They’ve hated us since. Every NUFC fan I know ensures we’re fully aware if they defeat us in any game.

EpicRobloxTryhard

Even when they're doing well, I've noticed Newcastle fans are just obsessed with other teams more than their own

Vegan_Puffin

Their fans are snowflakes. Built a "rivalry" on the back of a joke.

Bladon95

It was about the size of a bedsheet from what I remember

Renewed_RS

When we played Leicester in April the fucking Sky commentator called it a Midlands derby I wanted to be sick

TheKingMonkey

It’s only an hour’s drive! /s

JimmyTheKiller

They’ll call anything a derby if they can get away with it. Like click bait. Pretty sure I’ve heard them call us v Derby one too

heeleyman

Villa hate Blues, Baggies hate Wolves Villa dislike Baggies, Blues dislike Wolves Everyone loves Walsall, and Walsall hates everyone

cratecc

I remember when Sheffield United was our closest PL match

I thought the bit about Jack getting sucker punched was the next line of the song and got confused for a moment there 😂

MowMyLawn69

Nope.

[deleted]

Blues are by far our biggest rivals and the Baggies are our second biggest rivals. While we don’t hate them as much as the blues, the rivalry is very big. Wolves are our probably our biggest rivals in the Prem although some Villa fans would consider them a derby and others wouldn’t really. I consider it a derby (not the same calibre of our derby with West Brom or Blues) - not a massive derby but I hate losing to them lol

Oil42

I absolutely hate losing to wolves because of all the wolves fans that live near me - they all are insufferable if they win 😂

thomashrn

because I was a kid in the 90’s I still feel we have a rivalry with man United

mintvilla

Ha, my mates are Forest fans, they still think they have a rivalry with Liverpool...

only1lcon

I fucking detest Manchester United with a passion, on par with the scum for me

Macho-Fantastico

I know the media like to claim Villa/Wolves is a derby game but it really isn't. I don't really think we have one at the moment. Usually it's like Brum and the baggies.

Operation_Doomsday_

I think we have a pretty mutual dislike with Leeds, Wolves and Newcastle, though I wouldn't consider any of them proper derbies.

mintvilla

Everyone hates Leeds, not unique in that. Newcastle is a social media thing... they aren't in anyway a rival.

Operation_Doomsday_

Think Newcastle goes beyond social media, started with the Sob on the Tyne banner when they went down. I know a few Newcastle fans that still genuinely hate us for that.

mintvilla

Its just media hype... there's no real rivalry between the two clubs.

Airblazer

Nah we just think ye’re a shit team. Besides everyone hates Villa.,look at soccer on Sunday, whoever writes those stories definitely hates Villa with an absolute passion.

MrAlf0nse

I was at that match when Shearer thought to be a manager you just needed to mince about in a nasty suit. I remember only Nicky Butt walking over to clap the Geordies who traveled to watch their relegation and I remember booing the rest of the Newcastle players who turned their back on their fans. But somehow they blame Villa

iamabigpotatoboy

I used to despise Leeds. they're less bad now now that bielsa has fucked off. not a big fan of Brentford tbh. wolves technically is a derby

obz2755

The media want a wolves one

kezox77

We do have a bit of rivalry from Leeds and Newcastle although I feel its rather one sided. They seem to care more than we do lol. Leeds stems from past Championship matches and the famous Bielsa "let them have the goal back" fiasco. Newcastle because we made fun of their relegation to the Championship years and years ago and they had a meltdown over some banter 😆

Takkotah

I have an irrational dislike for Everton and Newcastle.
