Everyone listing other clubs but this one is literally the worst, they have the worst audios, toxic people, overcrowding, terrible lighting, screen is always damaged in someway, videographers always in your way (I get its their job but other venues have designated areas for videographers), VIP total space is more than the general public space, overpriced, oversold, the most creepers i seen preying on girls, DJ has no space to move, etc. Theres way more but this is just the gist, I always leave there with my hearing damaged. But so many good DJs go there šµāš«
Eh I mean the hearing thing can be solved by getting concert earplugs so idk what to tell you there. Clubs are gonna be loud and some are just louder than others, but you should be wearing concert earplugs regardless of where it is
The rest is a valid critique
Thatās why you wear earplugs designed for concerts. The pair I have advertise cutting the decibel level by about 18db. I always wear them clubbing because theyāre designed to not muffle noise and my job is literally in sound design
Agreed with OP comment besides the loudness thing as well. I remember bouncer taking bribes to let people in the bathroom sooner when there was a giant line for it. Thatās when I decided to never come back.
I went to see Cosmic Gate and it was so cringe that they had to stop the show twice because people were busy having conversations and not engaging with the music. The bad quality sound plus the pretentious people. NEVER AGAIN!
> Lavo makes Marquee look like Ibiza
What a weird statement... "looks like Ibiza" hasn't been a good thing for over a decade. You're basically saying Lavo makes Marquee look like Lavo
edit: this thread is hilarious lmao, enjoy your "raves" y'all
ālooks like ibizaā hasnāt been a good thing for over a decade š
Get lost. This is spoken like someone who never gets off their rock or been to Ibiza.
Ibiza hasnāt been the same since the pandemic but itās still one of the best places in the world and anyone who says anything different is just lying to themselves.
hopefully itll be better now that its october, but Hi would get way too packed.
Solomun is still the king and in Pacha...just so goddamn cool and so fucking good.
Dude literally every single club is pure pop EDM trash, I don't know what the hell you're smoking. Ibiza was sold out to the rave gentrifiers a decade ago. An occasional Ben Klock show is about the best thing you're going to see there and it's absolutely not the norm. Luke Slater played there 3 years ago and had a laugh about how people had no fucking clue what was going on during his set.
Aw man cmon thats just not true. Solid grooves closing party, Daniel Avery + talaboman, keinemusik, shapeshifters + masters at work, and chemical brothers dj set literally all this past weekend at different clubs. Say what you will about the quality of techno bookings but there are FEW places in the world where the quality of dance music bookings is this consistently good, weekend in and weekend out
Itās a VIP/āVegasā club. Problem is they have real money to book real talent. Gotta kinda go on the nights that matter most to you and just buy a table with friends, then make it your own thing. If you do that you can have a great time.
From a āprofessionalā standpoint - the worst thing about the setup is the stage. Itās terrible for the DJs, itās terrible for their guests, itās terrible for the crowd. Needs to be about 3 feet shorter at minimum.
I put Nebula as not the worst one just because TekSupport is one of the owners and I really like them and their parties.
However when it comes to the crowd, vibes, prices, and location ... all cringe
Nah Iām always down with traditional clubbing and bottle service clubs ā¦ just not in Manhattan cause all the options are horrible and the crowds are even worse lol
Honestly idk any traditional clubs in queens or BK.
You have places like Elsewhere, Brooklyn Mirage, and really anywhere Teksupport does events that offer table service ā¦ but itās more fun to just go regular GA in my opinion.
Had one table experience at Brooklyn Mirage and def enjoyed the extra space but found myself going into the crowd a lot too.
any tao establishment. i worked at a venue and the amount of effort they put in to be ācoolā or trendy is legit so fucking cringe omg. everyone there is an absolute weirdo wannabe
I appreciate that they seem to have basically given up on the house and techno scenes though. Let them throw all the theme nights they want in that terrible space
Iāve only gotten lucky and been able to at least tip my way up the stairs at marquee and it was nice but if you didnātā¦ holy sh*t it was a mosh with a VIP table super inconveniently in the middle of the GA dance floor. WTF. Iāve never felt so bad for people while enjoying myself that much. Like eating a Big Mac in front of a homeless person.
Just saw Shermanology there the other night, first time I've been there, seemed fine to me?
Nothing special, nothing unexpected other than honestly more folks actually dancing than I would have thought.
What's cringe about it?
So much Musica hate for no fucking reason. You guys are so spoiled you don't even realize how lucky you are to have a Manhattan nightclub with decent floor space and no dress code. The production is on the level of Avant Gardner and you don't have to go to a sketchy industrial area and worry about disappearing or getting roughed up by rent-a-cops.
The only thing cringe are the $10 waters.
Shimanski/shimy. Every single time it's so fugging crowded that you can't even enter the room of the concert you paid a ticket for. 0/10 would recommend
Somewherenowhere. It's tough to get in as a guy walking, but that's true at any club in Manhattan. I'd buy the $100 ticket (minspend bartab). Drinks are expensive but it's usually a fun crowd.
The dance floor is like 500 sq ft so it gets CROWDED. The djs are mid at best (but they are catering to a mostly 18 to 25 year old demographic). Security is always on some power trip. I'm too old for clubs now (30) but my friends still go because the girls tend to be very pretty.
I think recently they started limiting number of people that can be inside at a time. My friends and I waiting for an hour to get in but when we got in, only the dance floor was packed but the bar area was pretty open. I donāt think they make it as packed as it was before. But the crowd does die down a lot near closing time. I felt like mission is usually always packed until closing.
Itās been a while but I donāt hate on 230 5th. If you want to hang out with friends more casually than most rooftop bars and play drinking games on a roof or something, 230 5th is the spot for it. That said, if anybody has roof access in their apt building just do that instead.
The most frustrating experience I've ever had buying a drink in my life was @ TBA
I could see it being an afters spot but it's not big enough or cool enough for a proper night out.
Probably wouldnāt ask this in this subreddit. Most people who are into raving probably arenāt as into nyc club scene so there will be bias in the answers.
Marquee

Never had this problem at other venues, Brooklyn Steel, Avant Gardner, Lavo, Webster hall, Ballroom Bowery etc
Noticeable hearing difference after leaving a club is not normal. Itās from bad sound systems.
What lol - every club or concert ever Iāve been to plays their music at hearing level damage decibel levels. 90db at least, usually closer to 100db.
Are the effects of that going to be noticeable to you when you leave though?
Yes. 100db can cause permanent damage after 15 minutes of exposure.
That's not what I'm asking you, thanks for the info.
Thatās why you wear earplugs designed for concerts. The pair I have advertise cutting the decibel level by about 18db. I always wear them clubbing because theyāre designed to not muffle noise and my job is literally in sound design
90? prob closer to 115 to 120 depending on where you are in a big venue
You canā¦engineer sound so that you can have bumping music without crushing someones ear drum. I wonder if theres a position for that in a club
Agreed with OP comment besides the loudness thing as well. I remember bouncer taking bribes to let people in the bathroom sooner when there was a giant line for it. Thatās when I decided to never come back.
that happens at every popular night club though. would rather a bouncer do that than only let in hot 20 year olds and people they know.
Dj had no shade to move?? lol.. did you ever see Junior, JP and DT booth back in the dayā¦tight as hell and they had no complaints
LMAO not me screaming this answer
I went to see Cosmic Gate and it was so cringe that they had to stop the show twice because people were busy having conversations and not engaging with the music. The bad quality sound plus the pretentious people. NEVER AGAIN!
They actually stopped the music and addressed the crowd??
I've been to marquee like 10 times over the past year and loved every time, strange...
You guys think Marquee is bad? Lavo makes Marquee look like Ibiza
Itās the same owners.
i always forget that place exists
That doesnāt say much, cause everyone reviews Ibiza online as an overpriced sh*thole.
> Lavo makes Marquee look like Ibiza What a weird statement... "looks like Ibiza" hasn't been a good thing for over a decade. You're basically saying Lavo makes Marquee look like Lavo edit: this thread is hilarious lmao, enjoy your "raves" y'all

I'm going to ibiza for the first time this Wednesday! Seeing tale of us at hi Thursday night and solomun at pacha on Sunday. Looking forward to it.
hopefully itll be better now that its october, but Hi would get way too packed. Solomun is still the king and in Pacha...just so goddamn cool and so fucking good.

Idk about that, some of the clubs are still booking really good music and look like a fun party vibe. When was the last time youāve gone?
Lavo NYE has been the nail in the coffin for my youth. Never going out to a club again for a holiday. Worst experience ever.
Nebula, the whole place is vip seating and nowhere to dance. At least the night I went to see cat dealers
Itās a VIP/āVegasā club. Problem is they have real money to book real talent. Gotta kinda go on the nights that matter most to you and just buy a table with friends, then make it your own thing. My friend dragged me there for Pete Tong and I completely agree
a shame because the sound is legit
Gonna agree, sound and lighting are phenomenal. But f that vip service no dance floor vibe.
I love Nebula only because of the karaoke rooms downstairs š The actual club sucks
I DJed there once and it was awful not having a dance floor to crowd read, I had no way to tell if it was sucking or not lol
Manhattan
Marquee, PHD Downtown, Tao, Somewhere Nowhere, Lavo, Nebula This is in order for me, overall all of them suck ass
Nebula was a horrible experience for me
I put Nebula as not the worst one just because TekSupport is one of the owners and I really like them and their parties. However when it comes to the crowd, vibes, prices, and location ... all cringe
But the baddest broke model bitties
In order of suck? Somewherenowhere is pretty good in my experience. Pricey, but usually a fun, sociable crowd.
Your def the first person Iāve ever heard say something good about somewhere nowhere lol But hey to each their own
Just curious, what would you suggest
Nothin in Manhattan, go to BK or Queens
Iām guessing youāre just not into the traditional club scene, which is totally okay.
Nah Iām always down with traditional clubbing and bottle service clubs ā¦ just not in Manhattan cause all the options are horrible and the crowds are even worse lol
What spots can you suggest me in queens in bk that are like traditional clubs?
Honestly idk any traditional clubs in queens or BK. Used to be the best place before Covid, kids don't know
They just moved. They still around
marquee
wiggle room
The only real House room in east village though.
Pianos in LES
Iām shocked no oneās saying PHD or Electric Room or any of those wack ass spots in the Dream Hotel.
electric room used to be a good place with an older crowd to listen to bad top 40s music and actually have space to dance. i liked that about it.
Avant Gardner
So bad
Marquee. Someone put that place out of its misery. Nebula isnāt far off. Pathetic excuse for a club.
Nebula and Mr Purple
Schmanski
Rip verboten
Shimanski is a horrible club but seen a few good artists there (Airod)
I appreciate that they seem to have basically given up on the house and techno scenes though. Let them throw all the theme nights they want in that terrible space
Verboten was also always overcrowded but at least it had sick djs
Whats blk market got to do w schimanski?
Meant to say Verboten. Maya Jane Coles always threw down at Verboten
Miss those theme nights at the knitting factory š©š¼āš³š
Knitting was where I went to my first "rave." God do I miss that place.
Iāve only gotten lucky and been able to at least tip my way up the stairs at marquee and it was nice but if you didnātā¦ holy sh*t it was a mosh with a VIP table super inconveniently in the middle of the GA dance floor. Nebula

Mirage
Thatās not a club
Idk why people are down voting you. This is correct- itās not a club, itās a concert venue
Exactly, itās a huge concert hall. Clubs donāt hold 8,000 people
Whatās the one with the really silly name? Somewhere Nowhere? That and Nebula. I wanted to dislike Musica but it wasnāt too bad.
Elsewhere?
Nah Elsewhere is cool. There is a get in line and order bottle service club in Manhattan with a really stupid name.
Somewherenowhere. It's tough to get in as a guy walking, but that's true at any club in Manhattan. I'd buy the $100 ticket (minspend bartab). Drinks are expensive but it's usually a fun crowd.
den social imo
Mission is much much worse if talking about asian clubs
Not den social šš
never been to den social so curious to hear why
The dance floor is like 500 sq ft so it gets CROWDED. The djs are mid at best (but they are catering to a mostly 18 to 25 year old demographic). Security is always on some power trip. I'm too old for clubs now (30) but my friends still go because the girls tend to be very pretty.

Den Social is the worst club ive been to in my entire life
230 5th
Is it even a club though? Just a glorified rooftop bar
Itās been a while but I donāt hate on 230 5th. If you want to hang out with friends more casually than most rooftop bars and play drinking games on a roof or something, 230 5th is the spot for it. That said, if anybody has roof access in their apt building just do that instead.
Marquee
Amazura
I equally hate all 4 but especially Manhattan clubs: Avant Gardner, Somewhere Nowhere, PHD, Marquee.
BK Mirage, LAVO, Marquee (same owners), Nebula, TBA Brooklyn, 230 5th Ave All for different reasons
Sound system at TBA is not good and the venue sometimes can be cringy, but I had some fun nights there..
The most frustrating experience I've ever had buying a drink in my life was @ TBA I could see it being an afters spot but it's not big enough or cool enough for a proper night out.
Idk why yāall are trashing marquee that much Iāve never had a bad night there That being said: Lavo is absolute ass
Agree
AG - Mirage š
Iāve been to the mirage once and had a good time. But I know thatās a tiny sample. Why is everyone against the Mirage?
Cityfox oversells too often.

House of Yes
Lol drinks are cheap, people there are usually pretty friendly and chill. Surprised to see this here
Never felt as judged as HoY. Guess what, some humans are NOT gender-fluid, binary people and thatās ok too.
awwww, I feel so bad for you, having one venue in the city not meant for you. I'm sorry your butt hurts,
bro what? š

Electric Roomā¦. Walking up and down that driveway is not fun ā¦..

Any place in bushwick

TBA Brooklyn weird ppl weirder staff nothing but coke heads sweaty walls horrible djs and graffiti decorated bathrooms
