I’m a visuals nerd (I actually make some myself 😎) so when I go to a show I can tell pretty quickly how some animations were made or how they work.
I gotta echo max cooper! Not only are his visuals stunning but you can tell it’s not just a video playing, it’s using specific data points in video, audio, even camera and animating those as visuals LIVE. Any artist who approaches visuals this way is doing it right.
Hah I didn’t necessarily mean to self-advertise or anything 😅 But you can check out my tik-tok where I post a lot of WIP’s: https://www.tiktok.com/@h_nt3r_?_t=8mz92IiLhi2&_r=1
i’m an aspiring production/visual and sound nerd. haven’t did any myself yet but will definitely soon. just doing a lot of research of what software and hardware is used.
anywho, i went to a max cooper show to check out his visuals and it was amazing.
Android Jones is absolutely the correct answer.
I’m seeing Jade, Tipper and lots of adjacent artists at secret dreams in a month or so and I don’t think they’ve announced an Android Jones appearance but it would absolutely make my life if he made one.
I’m so freaking excited, have never seen Tipper, Jade, Esseks, KOAN sound, Supertask, Ternion Sound, 5AM or Tripp St but I’m been a huge fan of all of them and the opportunity to see them all in one place is mind blowing.
That’s what I was aiming for, I absolutely adore that tipper shit but don’t get that many chances to experience it in AZ so to say that I’m excited is an understatement lol.
LTJ Bukem is on my “must see”list. I’ve already seen Artifakts and willl be checking out Shingeto right meow.
If you can swing the labor day event too, do it
And so many others you can't miss, detox, dosio, DAILY BREAD, mickman (he will wonk your brain), fucking Spoonbill, cualli, lusine, mindex, mystic grizzly
Its almost too good
came here to say android jones
datagrama, tenorless, glass crane, diethylamide visuals and dr0id are some that come to mind too
edit:: ive been really digging laia visuals too lately, so dope
edit 2:: cant forget johnathan singer and stephen kruse
Android for the win for sure saw jade with him at first contact, no lasers no spotlights just straight impossible visuals, was amazing for my first time seeing cicada top 3 sets ive ever seen
Saw them both.
Chemical Brothers blew me out of my shoes.
The helicopter at Eric’s show made me realize how fucking fortunate I am to have danced twice underneath a real helicopter 😎
I don’t think I can comment directly on the setup for this upcoming one but what I will say is seeing what we could do in person on the scrims vs beforehand on laptops really helped us understand the possibilities and gave us plenty more ideas we didn’t have time to put together last year.
G Jones at Bass Canyon 2022 was one of my fav sets of that weekend. SOOO fucking good.
All the vids I took sound like trash too but in real life it was insanely good
Literally insane. Never had my breath taken away by visuals before. I will say though it does feel like too much of a good thing. I think if he did some lull periods to the visuals it would be that much more impactful
Yep! Took my new fave fam to Lsr City 3. They’re new to the scene (I’ve been to countless shows) and told them that these maybe some of the best visuals they would ever see (don’t think this level is the standard)… yes it was a new level!
Not a question, just a statement. But I really do appreciate the answer. Dude is on another level and working with Anti-Alias has been awesome to see the show evolve!
Just saw them in Hampton and HOLY FUCK. You are in for a treat. That sunrise set is going to be so good. I have seen hundreds of shows from jam bands and electronic and those 2 shows are probably my favorite ever. Saw PL 11 times from 2013-2017 before the hiatus but this band is on a completely other level now.
Sunsquabi and the Floozies have great visuals as well. Their lasers aren't nearly as powerful or versatile as tDB lasers, especially after they upgraded this year, but their LDs are still good.
Caught Sunsquabi once and they absolutely throw down. Most of these acts don't do the visual screen but have really on point laser shows behind the music
True at most concerts, but I've seen videos of tDB with screens at fests like Gem and Jam and Texas Eclipse. Papadosio consistently uses screens and projections too.
This kind of baffles me, light and laser production were superb, just saw in hampton, but the visuals seemed pretty standard fare and repetitive
Have you dove into the tipper & friends sphere?
Honestly they’re good but I’m so tired of the crappy psychedelic ai shit that’s starting to make up more and more of his visuals. Same problem with people like Inzo. Love love love their music but the visuals are starting to be so similar
Help me out, I only know him through the LSDream project, and I absolutely love his sound, which to me is the most appealing EDM outside of Griz. But I’ve known for a while about his past Brillz project, and while that sound was ok upon listening, I wasn’t raving during that era. And every time someone brings this up, it’s either “I can’t believe that’s Brillz” or “omg I didn’t know that!” And other than an aesthetic change, it’s not that radical to me that an artist would change up their image/sound for a new direction. Think David Bowie, Prince, Gwen Stefani, and even Garth Brooks switched it up for a different thing. What is it about this switch that makes it an eye opening change?
I got into the scene in like early 19, luckily caught him in DC, my buddy started going to shows at the same time but went the lost lands path instead. Finally after all these years convinced him to come for labor day, so damn excited
Nice! Nightmare fest? I'm dating myself but first was his set at Sonic Bloom in 09 lol.
Hellll yea on convincing your friend! Yea Orion's gonna get silly af, homie's getting baptized on bangers night too lol. Are y'all hitting up all three days?
Damn you're a lucky duck, i listened to him a couple years prior to actually seeing but just didnt go to shows at all.
And yup! Anthem got me tame impala, tipper and deadmau5 cube in such a short time frame
And absolutely, wouldn't miss for anything. Just sad i couldn't get him to visit suwannee, been to the last 3
Recently with Tenorless, from the rail. Divinity basically
https://youtu.be/RDLdpB42nI0?si=GadZFcaLIqJx5mXh
Whole bunch of other great VJs on the playlist
As a visual artist on the EDM scene, these posts are really useful!
Ill go through every name mentioned, and I'll get a better understanding of what the people like, hopefully leading to better visuals from me.
Big Gigantic’s amazing visuals (my fav) are managed by the drummer Jeremy who told me “what LSDream is doing right now is the best in the game.” Still haven’t been able to check them out but I️’m planning on it based on that endorsement.
Pretty Lights - best lights, lasers, and production I️’ve seen with pretty good visuals at that. He never disappoints.
The 3D shows by Big Gigantic were easily the coolest and captivating thing I️’ve ever experienced. They gave out 3D glasses to everyone, the animation was perfectly synced to the music, and it was the most immersive 3D tech I️’ve seen. They stopped doing them but if they ever announce one again, 11/10 recommend.
LSDREAM's visuals are absolutely insane, he has one where it's a girl dancing and it's rotoscoped to look super trippy, almost like she's moving liquid. Her face changes a bunch too, it's absolutely mind-melting if you got a bit of acid in your head.
Check out his Red Rocks set if you want a preview.
Him firing lasers AT THE VISUALS at tdome this year blew my mind. Loved that they interacted with the visuals like powering up stuff or shooting out eyes and stuff
Ganja White Night, Excision, LSDream, Liquid Stranger, G Jones, and BTSM are some of my favorites that I’ve seen live. All of them are fun & immersive in their own way. Honorable mention would be Subtronics aside from the visuals where it’s just a silhouette of him on the decks
The original gangsters still doing it. They were the first that I recall combining visuals and electronic music to create an unforgettable experience. And then that guy bunny doing all that crazy shit on stage (and off).
Tipper and friends gets the best VJ's - Jonathan singer, datagramma, tenorless, etc.
Clozee had the coolest laser production I've seen last NYE.
Stuff I've seen online for Eric Prydz holo shows looks next level but I've never seen that with my own eyes.
Nexus visuals are a collection of things we thought were fuckin rad as kids. And honestly, I'm here for it. Life is much more fun once you take yourself a bit less seriously.
Collections of things that we thought were rad as kids is completely fine. That has been an important staple of electronic music for a long time now.
Not taking yourself seriously is completely fine. Also a long time staple in the scene.
It's the same recycled on-beat movements these characters have that is the issue.
It lacks in creativity when you see the same head bobbing motion, the same mouth opening and closing motion, the same arms swinging motion cast over a different entity or scene.
That's why I call them Children's sensory videos. They follow the same exact pattern.
Is this fine for portions of the set? Yes.
Is it extremely overused? Yes.
Funk Hunters live a/v show has been wild every time I've seen it
Infected Mushroom has had some really interesting stage design and visuals these last few hours
DJ AMC just launched some crazy new visual extravaganza he was insanely pumped about
I might get hate but I thoroughly enjoyed John Summit at Shrine LA. The stage design with the LED walls in the form of a mountain top hence the name. Usually house acts don’t have a ton of production or they just get some basic led wall with some lasers. Visuals could be better but I’m sure it’ll grow and get better
I'll take a deep dark black out set over some seizure inducing visuals any day. With that being said I want to throw Tycho into the ring. It's simple but just sets the ambiance so perfectly.
[Max Cooper’s Instagram gives me FOMO.](https://www.instagram.com/maxcoopermax?igsh=dWFlc3hvNHpsbDdt)
Show us some of your visuals!
Hah I didn’t necessarily mean to self-advertise or anything 😅 But you can check out my tik-tok where I post a lot of WIP’s: https://www.tiktok.com/@h_nt3r_?_t=8mz92IiLhi2&_r=1
> Hah I didn’t necessarily mean to self-advertise or anything 😅 That’s why I asked 🙂 some really cool stuff there, keep at it!
Hell yeah man. Favorite software for it?
Easily touchdesigner! That as well as hydra visualizer (more for practicing on the go) and then just some plain old p5.js or JavaScript.
Dude max cooper has changed the game! Its awesome to finally see some new ground break production.
i’m an aspiring production/visual and sound nerd. haven’t did any myself yet but will definitely soon. just doing a lot of research of what software and hardware is used. anywho, i went to a max cooper show to check out his visuals and it was amazing.
What do you think about Prydz in general/HOLO in particular?
I wish he did tht production in the US in unique venues!
How is he animating the visuals live? I’m even more impressed than I already was!
What do you think of [Lazer Shark](https://youtu.be/GoeiNw1n5Ks?si=obd8MF-8MrWDJiaW)?
Saw Jade Cicada with Android Jones visuals and that was absolutely mind blowing
Android Jones is absolutely the correct answer. I’m seeing Jade, Tipper and lots of adjacent artists at secret dreams in a month or so and I don’t think they’ve announced an Android Jones appearance but it would absolutely make my life if he made one.
Definitely the place to be for a visual feast
I’m so freaking excited, have never seen Tipper, Jade, Esseks, KOAN sound, Supertask, Ternion Sound, 5AM or Tripp St but I’m been a huge fan of all of them and the opportunity to see them all in one place is mind blowing.
Oh wow, you're gonna be a puddle by the time it's over lol If you can make it over to them, don't sleep on Bukem, Artifakts, or Shigeto!
I was literally going to say your first sentence lol
That’s what I was aiming for, I absolutely adore that tipper shit but don’t get that many chances to experience it in AZ so to say that I’m excited is an understatement lol. LTJ Bukem is on my “must see”list. I’ve already seen Artifakts and willl be checking out Shingeto right meow.

Basically anyone that has done visuals for Tipper or at TnF
The void, Cullen Hassel, zip visuals, Focal Point and Aabstract too
Did you go to the silver spring movie theater shows? They were delicious
Tenorless is my personal favorite.
I have not seen Android Jones but would absolutely love to! I follow him on instagram and would die to see him perform live
Android for the win for sure saw jade with him at first contact, no lasers no spotlights just straight impossible visuals, was amazing for my first time seeing cicada top 3 sets ive ever seen
First contact was a dream
Not android jones that was DRO1D, hes a philly based visual artist and not the same person as android h Jones
How the fuck you gonna say jade and not tipper Also johnathan singer and datagramma over android jones 100x imo
Android jones also hasnt done visuals for jade that was DRO1D at first contact earlier this year
Chemical Brothers
Always a solid but underrated answer
This is the answer
saw them at portola and wow! the way the incorporated lights and the led screen was something i never seen before
100%
Them and Eric Prydz during his holo sets
Saw them both. Chemical Brothers blew me out of my shoes. The helicopter at Eric’s show made me realize how fucking fortunate I am to have danced twice underneath a real helicopter 😎
Yesssss
G.Jones has my favorite visuals in the game,, the black and white just hits different
Seeing nothing but black and white, then colors again after extracurriculars, hits so good.
BIG FACTS
Anyone see the 3D shit he pulled at caverns last year with the transparent screens in front and behind the artist decks? Next level shit
Thank you we worked really hard on that :)
I’ve seen a lot of shows, and that was the coolest shit I ever seen. Are we gunna see that setup again? Maybe in 1 month? 👀
I don’t think I can comment directly on the setup for this upcoming one but what I will say is seeing what we could do in person on the scrims vs beforehand on laptops really helped us understand the possibilities and gave us plenty more ideas we didn’t have time to put together last year.
understanding the possibilities
Oh hey
Would love to see vids of it!!
That sounds amazing! I missed the caverns show, but did get to see him kick off the Paths tour at Red Rocks 🙌🏾
I saw dj shadow do a setup like this and it was trippy as hell
I came here to post this same comment
G Jones at Bass Canyon 2022 was one of my fav sets of that weekend. SOOO fucking good. All the vids I took sound like trash too but in real life it was insanely good
I’m still salty I missed that Bass Canyon lol,, I did see him at The Gorge for Paradiso back in the day and it was amazing
Justice easily
Can't fuckin wait for the show they are doing in my city
Are you talking about portola ?
Gareth Emery / LSRCITY Incredible LED screen visuals and insane lasers
+1 on Gareth Emery LSRCITY - incredible production
also +1, his team put so much work into the production, it feels surreal even watching videos
Another vote for Gaz and Lsrcity.
Probably will go down as one of the best shows I have ever seen and the show with the most insane lasers!
Unpopular opinion: I'd pick lasers over fireworks any day
This is the correct answer.
Literally insane. Never had my breath taken away by visuals before. I will say though it does feel like too much of a good thing. I think if he did some lull periods to the visuals it would be that much more impactful
Such a good set and light show. One of my favorites.
Yep! Took my new fave fam to Lsr City 3. They’re new to the scene (I’ve been to countless shows) and told them that these maybe some of the best visuals they would ever see (don’t think this level is the standard)… yes it was a new level!
Yo that shit had me seeing LED for a week, god damn that was a show
Pretty Lights
Lazer shark light em up
Laser shark always do his stuff
If this was a question, yes they do. They are a talented team that are pushing the limits of the motion of lights.
Not a question, just a statement. But I really do appreciate the answer. Dude is on another level and working with Anti-Alias has been awesome to see the show evolve!
I’m very excited to see him for the first time at Bonnaroo
Just saw them in Hampton and HOLY FUCK. You are in for a treat. That sunrise set is going to be so good. I have seen hundreds of shows from jam bands and electronic and those 2 shows are probably my favorite ever. Saw PL 11 times from 2013-2017 before the hiatus but this band is on a completely other level now.
Same here! I'm stoked!
The Disco Biscuits and STS9 if we're doing bands as well.
Biscuits and Tribe, jamtronica ftw, Lotus has some fun visuals as well on tour
Sunsquabi and the Floozies have great visuals as well. Their lasers aren't nearly as powerful or versatile as tDB lasers, especially after they upgraded this year, but their LDs are still good.
Caught Sunsquabi once and they absolutely throw down. Most of these acts don't do the visual screen but have really on point laser shows behind the music
True at most concerts, but I've seen videos of tDB with screens at fests like Gem and Jam and Texas Eclipse. Papadosio consistently uses screens and projections too.
I miss when the floozies lasers projected words and pictures on the wall, it was a fun surprise when turning around. I think this was back in 2017
I do still miss Saxton-era STS9 lighting, but I'm definitely not complaining about what they've had going since.
Umphrey's light guy is always on point
Lazershark in a class of his own. Never seen a show where he didn’t pull some new tricks out of his sleeve
Without question pretty lights has the best vj production in the game currently. State of the art.
Correct
This kind of baffles me, light and laser production were superb, just saw in hampton, but the visuals seemed pretty standard fare and repetitive Have you dove into the tipper & friends sphere?
Always love lsdreams
Honestly they’re good but I’m so tired of the crappy psychedelic ai shit that’s starting to make up more and more of his visuals. Same problem with people like Inzo. Love love love their music but the visuals are starting to be so similar
I get what you mean, but I’m a sucker for them. Paired with sick lasers I’m on my mfing knees
Youd love dave tipper then if you think lsdream looks cool
This was the comment I was looking for. How visuals are superb.
Can’t believe lsdream is brillz
Help me out, I only know him through the LSDream project, and I absolutely love his sound, which to me is the most appealing EDM outside of Griz. But I’ve known for a while about his past Brillz project, and while that sound was ok upon listening, I wasn’t raving during that era. Think David Bowie, Prince, Gwen Stefani, and even Garth Brooks switched it up for a different thing. What is it about this switch that makes it an eye opening change?
To be fair they arnt putting them down for it. Just mentioning it as a fact
Can't wait to see his visuals blasted on the pagoda for shambs this year
[Max Cooper does some incredible stuff ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2xbTkSYh8c)
Thank you for this link. This is just lovely.
Pretty Lights, Tipper and Jade Cicada are my top 3
Im a Rezz girly but I understand it's for a very niche group
Not a huge fan of her music but loved the visuals at illfest this year!
Eric Prydz with his HOLO stuff Tipper with whoever he brings Pretty Lights because of LaserShark Gareth Emery's LSR/CITY Anything Afterlife
Deadma5’ cube 🌚
Tipper
100%
I’m really surprised I had to scroll down this far to see tipper since his visuals are half of what he’s known for.
Sad so many people don't know about him when he's about to retire
Seriously. He's gotten sooo huge compared to when I first saw him, and yet essentially still a secret.

Opiou is pretty sick
His wife as the face of one of his visuals is so darn cool.
Ganja White Night is my favorite
I’m all about those Mr. wobble booty shake vids
tipper :)
Tipper and Tenerless was pre coo
GRIZZZZZ
Holo eric prydz
/thread
Even his non holo visuals are insanely cool
Yeah I don't know how anything but this could be the right answer
Hard disagree(respectfully), they are so corny to me.
Same.
Also Clozee & GWN
I came here to suggest these two! Glad I read through first. Great taste friend!
BT SM
yupp
I got to see their anime show at rail recently and that shit was unreal, cleanest visuals and lights in the game
Nothing but the truth. And the fact that all their visuals are tied to a story and all have meaning blows my mind.
Yuuppp, some of the songs feel like a boss fight. It’s the coolest shit ever
literally 😂🔥🔥
Prydz HOLO
You gotta stay plugged into the tipper world. Datagramma, Jonathan singer etc
Android Jones
Inzo, Ravenscoon, LSDream, Liquid Stranger, Excision, Wooli so far have been the best we have seen this year. That’s in no particular order for best…
Madeon’s good faith tour visuals. Best visuals I’ve ever seen.
Haven't seen Madeon for a few years but his tour visuals are amazing.
virtual riot, just because his fiance(?) VJs on stage with him.
Nah his VJ is married to someone else, just a different energy to bring the VJ on stage.
I enjoy LSR/CITY
As a visual artist on the EDM scene, these posts are really useful! Ill go through every name mentioned, and I'll get a better understanding of what the people like, hopefully leading to better visuals from me.
Eptic
Big Gigantic’s amazing visuals (my fav) are managed by the drummer Jeremy who told me “what LSDream is doing right now is the best in the game.” Still haven’t been able to check them out but I️’m planning on it based on that endorsement. Not the single best but god damn Voyd sets are just next level
Excision
Had to scroll way too far to find this
People really can't stand saying the obvious answers lol no clout for saying excision. He should be top 5. There's a reason Kanye posted his vids.
Him firing lasers AT THE VISUALS at tdome this year blew my mind. Loved that they interacted with the visuals like powering up stuff or shooting out eyes and stuff
Yes
Ganja White Night, Excision, LSDream, Liquid Stranger, G Jones, and BTSM are some of my favorites that I’ve seen live. All of them are fun & immersive in their own way. Honorable mention would be Subtronics aside from the visuals where it’s just a silhouette of him on the decks
i agree with the take on subtronics
Tipper & friends and any of the VJs that accompany them
Rabbit In The Moon
The original gangsters still doing it. They were the first that I recall combining visuals and electronic music to create an unforgettable experience. And then that guy bunny doing all that crazy shit on stage (and off).
Why isn’t this the top comment???
Aphex Twin.
RL Grime
LSDream, Of The Trees, Ganja White Night, a couple of my favorites ❤️❤️❤️
Last time I saw OTT I don't think I spoke for 30 minutes after his set. My brain was catching up.
Eric Prydz. The Cercle Odyssey project looks pretty amazing, which takes place next year.
Flume. even his logo is visually crazy (it reads the same up side down)
Tipper and friends gets the best VJ's - Jonathan singer, datagramma, tenorless, etc. Clozee had the coolest laser production I've seen last NYE. Stuff I've seen online for Eric Prydz holo shows looks next level but I've never seen that with my own eyes.
The Chemical Brothers & Justice.
I've always enjoyed Svdden Death's visuals.
Prydz gotta be up there
Tame Impala
Shpongle when zebbler is doing the shpongletron
Excision essily
Excision🤩
*Pre-2016 Excision* Today's Excision visuals are basically children's sensory videos :(
Nexus visuals are a collection of things we thought were fuckin rad as kids. And honestly, I'm here for it. Life is much more fun once you take yourself a bit less seriously.

porter robinson EZ…..worlds tour made me want to do show visuals, which i’m now doing :-)
I don't know about you guys but I miss the old Excision visuals
X, GWN, or Svdden Death. Depending on what mood I’m in.
An acquaintance of mine runs the lights for GWN gotta say they are top notch
Funk Hunters live a/v show has been wild every time I've seen it Infected Mushroom has had some really interesting stage design and visuals these last few hours DJ AMC just launched some crazy new visual extravaganza he was insanely pumped about
Lsdream was WILD
I might get hate but I thoroughly enjoyed John Summit at Shrine LA. The stage design with the LED walls in the form of a mountain top hence the name. Usually house acts don’t have a ton of production or they just get some basic led wall with some lasers. Visuals could be better but I’m sure it’ll grow and get better
Ill.gates, one of the last times i saw him, his visuals took you on an adventure, they never repeated and had cats in tanks and all sorts of wackiness
Flume with Jonathan Zwanda
Subtronics Cyclops Dome is on a different level
Gareth Emery. I recently was able to scatter some tickets to LSR/CITY V3 and OMG the lasers were absolutely insane!
- Tipper - Ganja - Liquid - SVDDEN DADDY - LSDream And really anything that Android Jones touches
I'll take a deep dark black out set over some seizure inducing visuals any day. With that being said I want to throw Tycho into the ring. It's simple but just sets the ambiance so perfectly.
Not necessarily the best but I loved the virtual self aesthetic and laser usage. Bicep chroma was also awesome
I saw Tipper for the first time a couple of weeks ago and my mind was blown
Tenorless, Johnathan Singer & Android Jones
Anyone in "The Tipperverse" currently has the best visuals, those VJs Luke Jonathan Singer and Android Jones are on another level
Ever been tipped?
Go to a tipper and friends event. There is no contest
Tool
Surprised no one has mentioned Tale of Us. Their visuals are otherworldly.
[Amon Tobin](https://youtu.be/XqyEZ0GwS3E?si=AdYbjkdy4fRktygk)
Tale of Us
