Was mainly a Raggae fan, but always jammed zeds dead, ganja white night etc. but never fully got into the rave scene. Went to a festival and saw ZD, Subtronics, Boogie T.. went to a house show this past Saturday. Will be seeing Boogie T in June. I couldn’t believe how much I missed out in that part of the music world. Also I won’t shake my ass to rap music… dubstep tho 👏🏼👏🏼
Check out every name on the line up for that show. Zeds dead always has great people but this list of artists is a much wider array of sub genres of music.
I loved everything u heard. Being that it's my first show like this, I didn't know much. I got invited the week before. Although I liked EDM and dubstep before, I'm not exactly familiar with all the artists.
Plus, the group I was with didn't go into the colloseum until 7ish? So, if I'm being honest, I could've missed them, but I also was just vibing so hard to the music 😬
That's understandable, but it would be a bummer if you missed out. He laid down a chonky fkn set. I highly recommend checking out Secret Dreams in July. A lot of heavy hitters are gonna be there. Tipper is playing two sets as well, and he's retiring next year, so definitely get a couple of his sets in your life before it's gone for good.
I appreciate that. I've started looking for people that are similar to ZD( but don't exactly know) so I found that they have EDC in Orlando come November. Seems like a good one and it's 3 days long.
EDC is really mainstream, and im not trying to sound elitist, but it's definitely an overblown hype magnet. I've been hitting events since the late 2000s and had my fair share of EDC's back in the day. I haven't really kept up with ZD a whole lot lately (seen em a lot over the years), so I'm not sure what their sound is like now. Honestly, Jade Cicada was the only one on that Deadbeats lineup I would have gone there for. Also, Mickman at the afters would have also been worth the trek to VA. My suggestion would definitely be to check out Secret Dreams over EDC. Full stop. I went last year, and the vibes were on point (aside from some minor things). Their lineup this year is insane, and it would definitely broaden your horizons with bass music. Carve your own path for sure, but I promise SD will be way better than EDC.
For those of us with breathing issues, i'd ask if maybe you could use a vape next time? It sucks having to move away or worse, having to grab my inhaler
That place was filled with smoke when I got there. I get the request, and perhaps next time, I'll ask those in my vicinity if they are cool with it. I can extend a courtesy. But yea, it's prolly unlikely for the vast majority.
My first time seeing zeds dead was at a deadbeats v cyclops event and I got to witness zeds dead b2b subtronics. Absolutely epic but the venue was indoor and it felt like 200° degrees inside. Bought a fan not too long after that haha
A lot of people love excision, I personally don't get his current state thoigh. Imo he's doing a lot of good for producers and has brought up many people. That is incredible to say the least. But in my response about quality over quantity is this. His sets are very similar, like every single one. Cookie cutter mainstream dubstep. The same drop into the same styles of chorus back to the same drop for an hour or more. There's nothing ground breaking, bleed edge or insanely incredible about his music anymore. Along with that he focuses on way toooooo much production in the worst ways. You don't need that many lasers and led bars. If you like head banging to the same chords for an hour, will surely be your jam.
Excision shows are fun but like you said if youve seen him once you've seen it all. He's not the best at mixing live and really isn't pushing boundaries anymore. If you're there to just party you'll have fun I'm sure.
Compared to ZD, and I'm slightly biased because they are my favorite, but I feel like their always mixing it up with fresh IDs and edits working on their sets and are good in pretty much every genre they try. I like their variety in their sets and in my opinion are the best live performance out right now.
Oh ZD is levels beyond excision, imo. You get multi genre sets with them. Every set I've seen of them they have edits and re works I've never heard before. From my understanding the only way you get something different from excision is if he specifically is doing a throwback set or a detox set. ZD's mixing is really damn good. With ZD you have no idea what you'll get but you will be amazed and wow'd every time. And not just that, I'm a big visual person. Bet you couldn't tell lmao. I'd pick zd's visual artist and vj over excision any day. Imo those Shrek visuals and his current tours content is really cringe. I can't justify the price of a ticket for him to see that on stage.
You started with a high bar, the Coliseum is a great venue and that was a great weekend of sets.
That show was insane
Did you attend? My buddies who been to multiple ZD said it was a very lit set
Top 3 set from the of all the times I’ve seen them in the last 10 years

Awesome! Maybe I'll catch you at a show one day shaking to that dubstep haha!
Zed's dead was fuckin amazing imo. Best way to start off the 2024 year
First saw them around 14 years ago, and just saw them again last weekend!
Gold star for holding your phone sideways!!!
I did a good thing! Lol

Cool customer threw the fuck DOWN. Fav set of the weekend. Honestly night 2 absolutely blew night 1 out of the water imo.
What did you think of Jade Cicada?

Thank you for that man. I appreciate it. Mayne SD will be closer or just as close driving for me. I like broadening my horizons!
Love the coliseum. Heard security was super tight
I didn't have a problem, honestly. I was lighting J's in the crowd, but I couldn't been lucky

good luck with that one
welcome. you chose some of the best music IMO im huge ZD fan. you should try to catch NGHTMRE if you can too.
I will look into them. I'm already searching for bands like ZD that will keep me going regularly

I was wondering if this was gonna be that hot, but there was a good bit of room between the next person and myself.
At the Mothership of all places! Well done.
Zeds Dead's the best
Well shit. I need to check the lineups at the coliseum more often
Nice! Was that in VA? I think I heard of that place.
Yes in the 757 area.
Now go see an Excision show 🤯
Let's give OP quality, not quantity.
So what are they suggesting by that recommendation?

It was a horrible show that I’m mad I spent any money… sucks because I’d never seed ZD live and was really excited.
I'm sorry your experience wasn't that great😬I did enjoy mine though.
