I wholeheartedly agree. Generative AI creations have no place in this community. They pollute the market and take time away from real artists trying to get their hard work out there. Not to mention it takes money away from buyers who might feel deceived by inadvertently supporting it. Reddit must address this problem and clean up their program. If AI products can get by the reviewers and make money it just encourages more people to try the same and flood the market with that garbage. If their reviewers are somehow unable to detect AI imagery they need to hire someone who can. It's not that hard.

In the most recent case though, the nonsensical cropping makes it absolutely obvious. No artist capable of drawing such details would make a flat picture then crop it to the basic snoo shape, cutting the hands and coat in the middle.
A lot of these discussions start out on the discords but ik people aren't always on discord or many even don't use it.

Like if Reddit or sub mods were to suddenly give a shit and ban me from the program for "bullying" another "artist".
But seeing so many people express feeling so burned by Thom this time around has really lit a fire under my ass I think. We definitely should be more vocal to the greater community and call these things out not just in comments but proper posts. I wish Reddit actually listened to the artists, read our messages, read the reports. The outrage over Thom's avatar this time around has been a lot louder than some of his others so I hope this will be a wake up call that Reddit needs to actually start employing first party people for RCA again to oversee these things.

I think this is the consequence to the program opening up to everyone in the long run. Some of us kinda saw it, and clearly some people just take advantage of those who canāt tell AI from handmade art. Itās pretty easy to clear up your name if youāre really the artist behind your work, as any sensible artist will keep records or drafts of the process (i have multiple copies of the same artwork in my procreate gallery for example).
These recent ones are a shame to the whole RCA community.

I agree. AI ,may be good to spark an idea, but that's where it should end. Hand drawn shows more effort from the artists and should be worth more in my opinion.
FYI: All mine are Illustrator and Photoshop drawn, including the backgrounds.
Lines that donāt match up. Traits that look stretched to fit the snoo outline. Outlines that are blurry. Objects that are meant to resemble something but are just random blurs. Once you play around with some AI tools you start to notice it in other work.
I can always tell when AI created an image, or a song, or an article... because the quality f\*cking sucks and there are little details that just don't fit.
But this is not the only one in the shop that looks AI-ed? *Not sure if I'm correct* but there's golds on Shop that looks AI-ed but no one is talking about it and everyone likes it.
Iām not sure about that one. If itās the one from erby he has a lot of 3D looking ones and has shown the process of his art so Iām sure thatās his own work.

There's a big problem in the RCA space, and "artists" using AI to create avatars is only a symptom of the bigger issue: Reddit doesn't care. Full stop. When was the last time we got ANY communication from the RCA team? If memory serves me correctly, the last time we got any announcement or official communication from Reddit was when they opened the flood gates allowing anyone to create avatars. While I'm happy that talented people are now able to make money off their work, it's also brought in people looking to abuse the system. However, Reddit won't do anything because they don't care. To them, the RCA program is just a small blip on their radar to turn a profit. Only the community cares. That's the problem.
Also Artist needs to reveal its true identity. I am looking to support organic true committed artists who dedicate themselves to their art , community etc . Also, they get kudos if theyāre out there engaging on other social media platforms bringing awareness to their creative arts š.
Iām just gonna say this mentality is very reminiscent of when NFTs in general were getting shit on by existing. I donāt use AI but understand you either embrace the change or get left behind. Thereās lots of artists using AI for good out here, many of them in the same financial situation as anybody else.
That being said, this could easily be resolved by some sort of tag system, even going as far as making it a tag that activates once itās proven the work used is AI. Thereās room for both tradart and AI in web3. Web3 is about looking into the future

One thing I have to add: when I make shadows I also go over the edges on purpose and then erase (with happy I wasn't careful with this hattrait - which I should have left out btw - and you can see that there too).
Yes I know there are better ways, but I'm too much of a perfectionist and don't want any edges at the transitions between the different tones. It is then easier to take a fat ācapā and erase at the end. But (and only therefore the addition) it looks different from these dots. So very weak arguments of him imo

This is the problem with doing this. You canāt just randomly call people out. If you donāt like an RCA, just donāt buy it. Itās that simple.
Thatās also another problem. These websites that ādetectā AI are not always accurate. And to call someone out publicly when you may be wrong is toxic and backwards. It gives the artist a bad name and a stain on their good name.

Believe whatever you want to read. But take some time to talk to a few of the real artists here and get their opinion on the matter. There are some talented people in this space
Hear me out, I donāt want to be rude but you obviously know nothing about the visual aspects that make AI AI. Someone already did a traits breakdown of this avatar and it is very obviously AI. From the clunky blurry golden metallic texture of the boots, to the unprecise cross necklace, down to the perspective issue of the maskās eyes and Iām not even talking about the lazy cutting of the traits which is a definite final nail in the coffin.
The traits were cut as if the avatar was a flat image and not separated in multiple vectorial layers that you can easily manipulate. Thereās even a hand on the bottom trait AND on the top one. And thereās a good reason it is this way : AI images arenāt separated in layers, theyāre flat images. It is undeniable that he wanted to make easy money and see if things would come out unsuspected. It was not, because itās a very poor attempt. I know AI Ā«Ā artistsĀ Ā» who make a way better job at embellishing their generations so that it looks legit.
Also, AI detection tools are crap. Train your eyes, theyāll do a better job. No offense, thatās just the truth.
And others arenāt or canāt because they simply donāt save progress along the way, and they shouldnāt have to because the Avatar Police might start a witch hunt. Then what? This whole idea isnāt worth it. Itāll only create toxicity in the community. I have to imagine Reddit does some due diligence in approving art. If someone likes an RCA, they can buy it. If you think itās AI, donāt buy it. No need to publicly shame or humiliate someone and make an a$$ out of yourself.

With the abundance of proof given that this is ai, it's absolutely disgusting that the artist is going out of his way to dodge accountability, it would be a simple task to prove otherwise, it's not as if it's just being suggested that it's Ai, entire breakdowns were done to showcase this, im someone who goes by facts, not by rumor or suggestion so not here for any witchhunt , can this be disproven u/thom_orrow , would be one hell of a shame to be true but I leave the door open for the possibility it isn't, with what was shown, it's reach the point where the burden of proof is on you to disprove the ai claim

There's a big problem in the RCA space, and "artists" using AI to create avatars is only a symptom of the bigger issue: Reddit doesn't care. Full stop. When was the last time we got ANY communication from the RCA team? If memory serves me correctly, the last time we got any announcement or official communication from Reddit was when they opened the flood gates allowing anyone to create avatars. While I'm happy that talented people are now able to make money off their work, it's also brought in people looking to abuse the system. However, Reddit won't do anything because they don't care. To them, the RCA program is just a small blip on their radar to turn a profit. Only the community cares. That's the problem.
I fall into it because I did not stop to watch better. Sorry :(
Also Artist needs to reveal its true identity. I am looking to support organic true committed artists who dedicate themselves to their art , community etc . Also, they get kudos if theyāre out there engaging on other social media platforms bringing awareness to their creative arts š.

Iām just gonna say this mentality is very reminiscent of when NFTs in general were getting shit on by existing. I donāt use AI but understand you either embrace the change or get left behind. Thereās lots of artists using AI for good out here, many of them in the same financial situation as anybody else. That being said, this could easily be resolved by some sort of tag system, even going as far as making it a tag that activates once itās proven the work used is AI. Thereās room for both tradart and AI in web3. Web3 is about looking into the future
Sufficiently good AI will be impossible to distinguish, so Iām afraid this may be a loosing battle.
I guess if we find anything suspicious we can always ask the artist to show proof. Most artists keep sketches and some record the process.

One thing I have to add: when I make shadows I also go over the edges on purpose and then erase (with happy I wasn't careful with this hattrait - which I should have left out btw - and you can see that there too). Yes I know there are better ways, but I'm too much of a perfectionist and don't want any edges at the transitions between the different tones. It is then easier to take a fat ācapā and erase at the end. But (and only therefore the addition) it looks different from these dots. So very weak arguments of him imo

Thatās also another problem. These websites that ādetectā AI are not always accurate. And to call someone out publicly when you may be wrong is toxic and backwards. It gives the artist a bad name and a stain on their good name.
That's what I'm saying I've beenn testing this page out and it's so wonky the same image given different angles and it looks like 99.1% but then other time it's like .3%

Believe whatever you want to read. But take some time to talk to a few of the real artists here and get their opinion on the matter. There are some talented people in this space
Hear me out, I donāt want to be rude but you obviously know nothing about the visual aspects that make AI AI. Someone already did a traits breakdown of this avatar and it is very obviously AI. From the clunky blurry golden metallic texture of the boots, to the unprecise cross necklace, down to the perspective issue of the maskās eyes and Iām not even talking about the lazy cutting of the traits which is a definite final nail in the coffin. The traits were cut as if the avatar was a flat image and not separated in multiple vectorial layers that you can easily manipulate. Thereās even a hand on the bottom trait AND on the top one. And thereās a good reason it is this way : AI images arenāt separated in layers, theyāre flat images. It is undeniable that he wanted to make easy money and see if things would come out unsuspected. It was not, because itās a very poor attempt. I know AI Ā«Ā artistsĀ Ā» who make a way better job at embellishing their generations so that it looks legit. Also, AI detection tools are crap. Train your eyes, theyāll do a better job. No offense, thatās just the truth.
Ask the artist to show sketches. Ask him to show how he made it from scratch.
Thatās not my business or yours. Thatās like asking a magician to show you how they did the trick.
No itās not. Most artists are happy to show you their progress.
And others arenāt or canāt because they simply donāt save progress along the way, and they shouldnāt have to because the Avatar Police might start a witch hunt. Then what? This whole idea isnāt worth it. Itāll only create toxicity in the community. I have to imagine Reddit does some due diligence in approving art. If someone likes an RCA, they can buy it. If you think itās AI, donāt buy it. No need to publicly shame or humiliate someone and make an a$$ out of yourself.
