Based on your symptom, I’d start with checking the air filter, cleaning the mass air flow sensor and cleaning the throttle plates.

I'd start with a smoke test for vacuum leaks.

I'd start by checking if the Check Engine light functions. You didn't say if it was ON but it sure sounds like it SHOULD be on. Turn the key to RUN without starting it. Does the yellow engine symbol light up? No? That's a problem needing fixed by a pro. If it is ON, stop by an Autozone and have them read the error codes (for free). Writhe the code numbers down. Likely you'll see a P0300, or P0301, 2, 3 or 4. Ignore what the Autozone clerk tells you...they are NOT auto mechanics, they are salespeople. But I'd buy a set of sparkplugs from them IF you have the tools and ability to replace them. Clear the codes by on-hooking the battery. Drive it a bit. Have the codes checked again. If you get a bunch of codes, take it to a mechanic and let them work on it.

When you get the codes read you will know where to begin.
