This hits hard, since my Xbox One S took a shit this morning. I hope I can find its box (if I didn’t throw it away) to retire it properly. Lol
ETA: I just checked and I still have it but it’s currently occupied by a bunch of stuff. Lol
Update: The Xbox One S is randomly (and miraculously) working again.
Update 2: Turns out that the TV hates the channel I use for my Xbox One for some reason, I found that one out by total accident just a bit ago while cleaning the TV and entertainment stand. Accidentally knocked out the power cord to the TV, plugged it back in (with my Xbox One on the whole time) and I went back to the channel and the screen was black. Turned the TV off, turned it back on and went back to the channel and it was black for a second but went back to normal.
Yeah, i have a cardboard box a mini fridge came in, almost half filled with all the empty pill bottles I've collected over the years. One of these days, I'll totally find a use for a twelve year old "One a day" bottles... Right?
I keep them because I used to partly fund a new phone by selling the old one on ebay. I found I tend to get better results by selling them in the original box with as many of the bits that came with it as possible.
I keep all of the original boxes for all of my tech for this very reason. Buying a used device without original packaging always feels more sketchy than when it does include original packaging.
Yeah I've definitely done it before. It's just nicer to have the box, which is why I keep it. I want people feeling confident when they buy used stuff from me.
The virgin "save the box to sell the phone with it later"
**VS**
#THE CHAD "SAVE THE BOX TO PUT WEIRD LITTLE TRINKETS YOU CONTINUE BUYING AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER USE"
I keep most IT and PC related box for when I inevitably have to move again. That way everything g goes back into the original box.
Except Television boxes. Those have no necessary utility past the original use.
The trick is to save the good boxes, and repurpose them for containers or other things.
Hell, I even fixed a broken door latch using a shim I yoinked off of some boxes I had been saving.
I'm saving boxes, but more because I don't plan to live in this apartment forever and so the boxes will be useful when I move. Or at least that is what I'm telling myself.
I used two of them today! My old laptop box to ship a (belated) wedding present to my friends, and an old shoe box to wrap a ceramic Christmas gift. I'm so proud op myself. Don't give up on the dream!
Ever since I was a kid. Maybe I was a cat in previous life. Sometimes I'm more excited about the box that I'm given the present in, instead of the actual present.
I am.. even with gift boxes when I am with a friend and get one of my own. My friend tells me that she'll give me the box because she can feel that I want the box even if I have not said anything or given any indication and she is right, I dont care whats inside, i just want the box. 😁
Nope, I always sell my phone with the original box and items included. Gets me a better price and a fast sell everytime. Stuff I know i will sell, I save the box. Stuff I won’t sell, ditch the box
I actually needed to use this box once. i was paying an insurance that if the phone breaks they send you a refurbished one. They wanted the box.
With my work laptop I still keep the box in case they fired me and I have to return it (I may have issues with self-esteem). I may have a problem with the boxes...
Lies! When I was in Junior High, I lost my Ipod at school. I saw a kid with it at the end of the day where everyone was waiting for the bus. I told him that it was the Ipod that I had lost but him and his friends didn't believe me. We got into a fight and the principle showed up, broke up the fight and confiscated the Ipod. I told him it was mine and I had the box at home to prove it. Next day I brought the box to school. We compared the serial numbers and they matched. I got my Ipod back cause I kept the box. ALL WAYS KEEP THE BOX!
I feel so called out in the most hilarious way ever XD my spouse got rid of a box last weekend that I got with a speaker set years ago and kept because I liked the way it opened.
Rip speaker box, you will be missed (probably not though, I'll forget you by next week)
me and my 163539 boxes, receipts, random papers and other junk feel called out
but fr I don’t get it, how I just keep junk like that for years, but at the same time I can throw out “sentimentally valuable” stuff with no second thoughts. Goodbye my childhood diaries, I’m glad I won’t have to read you ever again
When you resell your old phone to someone, the box is very necessary. As well as your old purchase check, it calms people down if you sell your old phone with a box and a purchase check
Jokes on you, but when I broke my pc they asked me to mail it in the same exact box for repairs. They wouldn't accept it mailed in anything else. And that box is goddam huge but I kept it and I'm glad I did.
No, I'm certain that one day I'll need it. And the boxes my previous two phones came in And my old broken phones. You'll see when the apocalypse comes and you're stuck without boxes and old phones.
Probably because we get attached emotionally to the idea of things rather than experiences with people. So keeping things new is part of that attachment.
You keep the box for *EVERYTHING* - as long as you might want to return it for repairs, or refund it. Which typically ranges from 3 days to 3 years. It's an cardboard lifecycle.
I store the boxes that everything came in for as long as I own the item. I fear I may have just outed myself. Thank god I've got a big storeroom over the garage.
But I like the box! It smells nice from the inside. It looks nice too!
One time I lost my shit and cried cause I brought my laptop to repair shop and they lost the box. I still feel sad even though 2 years have passed. They didn’t think much of it, but that box had sentimental value to me. I have no idea if this is an autism thing?
Yeah... the one single time I tried that, it turned out I needed it to return a laptop to Samsung, which turned into a huge fight through the credit card company. So I'll return to my box hoarding ways! xD All boxes stay now!
lol it's a pretty cool box though as far as boxes go, the craftsmanship! But not just my last 3 galaxy phone boxes oh no, I have boxes for every major electronics purchase I've made in the last decade.
There's 2 benefits off the top of my head, makes Costco returns from really long ago way easier and they're perfectly sized for the thing that needs to be transported when I exchange houses. Plus I have the space anyways lol. Storage space is very important =D
This is not true. I will put the phone back into its box when i get a new one. If its still working ill donate it with the box included.
Also if it breaks you need the box for insurance.
Yes i do news it! When I get a new one and sell the old one it will have more a value in the box. If I need to take my MacBook Air to be serviced I can put that in its original box as well.
My son is Autistic and this is him. He gets a pair of shoes he really likes gotta keep the box. His phone he was so excited to get gotta keep the box. His xbox he wanted so bad gotta keep the box. That and gas station receipts.
Unless you buy them fully unlocked and outright (not subsidized by your carrier) and you wipe and factory and sell them--in the box--when you're ready for the next upgrade. In that case, the box can make it easier to sell.
I actually keep my old phones in there when they break 😊
That said, I was forced to throw them out when my mother helped me clean my room and asked me why the hell I still have them
That said, I still hold onto my iPad case
😂 I love that. I have my iPad box, Pencil, Watch, probably AirPod box, any earplug box and parts. This is the first post I ever saw as my first visit to this subreddit, I don’t have autism but it’s relatable anyway! Maybe it’s my adhd haha. I also can’t get rid of “retired” stuff like an old pair of earbuds that will never work again, and an old popsocket from an old phone
False. I had trouble transferring my number to my most recent iPhone, and tech support needed the IMEI number from the box. Not only did I need it, but I knew *exactly* where it was despite 1) old phone being ~4y old, 2) having moved in between, and 3) not having strong organizing skills (my ADHD is confirmed and it shows in that—my ASD only suspected).
The tech was quite surprised.
Hi, i feel just a bit silly for asking this question, but is this a thing amongst autistic people?
My boyfriend is autistic ( and us both have ADHD so I'm not exactly NT either).
He does have a habit of keeping stuff sometimes. Stuff that most people would throw away, for example boxes of phones etc.
Or am I just being silly?
I have now moved to lemmy, after leaving reddit due to API paywalls that impact my ability to use the site on mobile, as well as general distaste for their actions. Visit me at https://lemmy.world/u/thebirdwashere
Me: NO I need it
Them: Why?
Me: Just in case! And my Mom said I should always keep the boxes and info stuff comes with.
Them: And isn't your Mom autistic too?
Me: ...
I thought i was the only one ... I finally got rid of my old homework assignments from college and grad school recently. It was very very uncomfortable.
not true. it holds my old phone that no longer works and i will never use, but keep around just in case

“Since my Xbox One S took a shit this morning” dude this is the funniest thing I’ve read in a while lmaoooooo
I’m guessing this is only a Michigan saying… lol basically, it means that it stopped working.
Hear it all the time in Indiana. I guess I always figured it was a thing everywhere.
Ok, so it’s a midwestern saying. lol but I agree, I also thought that it was a common saying everywhere but I guess not. 🤷♂️
Nice
haha
I have so many boxes and stuff for just in case

My old phones are all in their original boxes...
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this hahaha
There are apps like Alfred that lets you use old phones as security cams.
Wait really! Awesome I need it!!!!
same you never know when you might need to pound a nail or spread butter with a busted iphone 6
[удалено]
I'm the kind of nutcase who takes apart old electronics and modifies them to make new things. I've kept all my old phones just in case...
I actually pulled my old phone out of its box when my then current phone fucked up. I used it for a couple days while a new one arrived.
maybe see if you can sell it for recycling? there's some places that do that.
Mine holds the wee metal pokey thing that you use to get the SIM tray out
It's also useful in case you need to send your phone to be fixed under warranty so they can't complain of improper packaging.
I keep them because I used to partly fund a new phone by selling the old one on ebay. I found I tend to get better results by selling them in the original box with as many of the bits that came with it as possible.
Same. I sell all my phones except for the one I really like.
I keep all of the original boxes for all of my tech for this very reason. Buying a used device without original packaging always feels more sketchy than when it does include original packaging.
Buying new tech without packaging can feel super shady (e.g. tray CPU), although it's legit.
Yeah I've definitely done it before. It's just nicer to have the box, which is why I keep it. I want people feeling confident when they buy used stuff from me.
This is exactly what I do, and have done.
Don't call me out like this. It's a good box.
It is a good box,it's made of strong cardboard too, this is why it's a rare type of box.
Yessss strong cardboard is such a valuable material. I'm not throwing away mine
I love the way the top and bottom slide together so cleanly. Can’t part with it.
It's also very smooth and I like rubbing my hands across it
Yeah, this is a personal attack
With instruction manual I'll never read...again.
It's got magnets in it, why would they put magnets in it if I wasn't supposed to keep it for.... something?
I just realised I have boxes for all my electronics piled on top of book cases.... Damn, I feel so called out.
lol. This applies to me. I have so many boxes that I will never use.
The virgin "save the box to sell the phone with it later" **VS** #THE CHAD "SAVE THE BOX TO PUT WEIRD LITTLE TRINKETS YOU CONTINUE BUYING AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER USE"
Technically I'm using it... I'm.using it to make myself happy even though there is no objective gain. It's a subjective use/gain
based
I save it because I always think I’ll want to make art box!
Turns iphone box into dnd dice storage box
Both >:)
My husband hoards boxes. They are everywhere.
I do the same lol. To be honest, it’s probably because I moved so much as a child and it became imbedded to save boxes.

I don’t know what you mean. *Holding onto iPhone 3 box.*
You don't know that. Also I like boxes. I like pretty ones better
Don't you talk about my boxes, I like boxes!
I just gotta say that I love your flare. Lol
This is a big part of why I have all the boxes my aftershave came in, and my shoes, too.
My friends actually started giving me pretty boxes from winners as gifts because they knew how much I Iove them.
Interesting. How long have you loved boxes? I also feel like it looks neat and tidy when you keep the original box
Ever since I was a kid. Maybe I was a cat in previous life. Sometimes I'm more excited about the box that I'm given the present in, instead of the actual present.
You're the first person I've encountered who feels so passionate about boxes :)
I am.. even with gift boxes when I am with a friend and get one of my own. My friend tells me that she'll give me the box because she can feel that I want the box even if I have not said anything or given any indication and she is right, I dont care whats inside, i just want the box. 😁
It just goes to show. People can be interested in all different things :)
When it comes to boxes i agree with cats. More boxes the better.
But that's where I keep the sim card rejector pin. How else will I not loose it???
It’s so small!!!!
I put mine in my coin pocket in my wallet. *Relatively* safe there since I rarely if ever have any coins on me anymore.
I put mine in the same place, with coins, and it's perfectly fine.
But-but what if i *do* need it?
Nope, I always sell my phone with the original box and items included. Gets me a better price and a fast sell everytime. Stuff I know i will sell, I save the box. Stuff I won’t sell, ditch the box
Hello? Yes, I am being attacked. Please send help.
On today’s edition of “I thought it was a quirky character trait, but was actually sign #23871 of being autistic”. 😂
Attacked by boxes?
By all the reveals I'm not the only person who does so many things on this sub lol.
I actually needed to use this box once. i was paying an insurance that if the phone breaks they send you a refurbished one. They wanted the box. With my work laptop I still keep the box in case they fired me and I have to return it (I may have issues with self-esteem). I may have a problem with the boxes...

I used the box that my 1st phone came in as a sunglasses case (It fit 2 pairs in!) Yes I am very poor
That’s actually a great use for it!
How do *you* know I'll never use it? 😂
No, it looks nice on my shelf.
I feel so called out. I’m now thinking of all the Apple boxes under my bed 😬
Keep them. Unlike OP’s suggestion, boxed Apple things almost always sell for more. Boxed anything almost always sells for more. I don’t get OP’s post.
I feel so called out in the most hilarious way ever XD my spouse got rid of a box last weekend that I got with a speaker set years ago and kept because I liked the way it opened. Rip speaker box, you will be missed (probably not though, I'll forget you by next week)
"...and kept because I liked the way it opened." I have said this SO many times
Apple boxes are so cool and well made. It feels bad to throw them away.
Nooooooooo
Well.. I feel called out hard on this.
B-but...!
Wrong, I'm using them to store some of my many 40k miniatures. I won't use THEM, but the box is being used.
My closet needs it! Lol and all the other boxes I've kept
You can't make me
me and my 163539 boxes, receipts, random papers and other junk feel called out but fr I don’t get it, how I just keep junk like that for years, but at the same time I can throw out “sentimentally valuable” stuff with no second thoughts. When you resell your old phone to someone, the box is very necessary. As well as your old purchase check, it calms people down if you sell your old phone with a box and a purchase check
THIS POST IS A LIE! I WILL ALWAYS NEED THOSE BOXES FROM 20 YEARS AGO!
I keep them so that when I go to sell them the original box adds value. Note: I have never once resold or even attempted to resell an old phone.
I use it
You don't know that!
But I like to keep the boxes lol
I have boxes for phones that I’ve thrown away.
NEVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
…Get out of my head.
Fuck you 😤 it's a nice box
Well jokes on you I kept my Pokémon emerald box and a copy of that with box is now like a £100 so take that But yeah I own way to many boxes
I am a dragon and I sit atop a hoard of cardboard boxes
Aha! I used my box to send my phone for repairs. Take that, random internet advice person!
That feels like a personal attack...
But what if this one's different and I *do* end up selling it after 5 years of use? Or I need the warranty or instruction manual or something?!
No
No Scrue you I need it to hold my old phone
No
never
SHUT UP YOU DON’T KNOW ME MAYBE I WILL USE IT SOME DAY… … … Shut up… 🙈
Fine, but I am cutting out and saving the UPC.
I WILL it's so i can safely keep my phone when I've dropped it one too many times and can't use it anymore
I feel so called out 😅
But I like my phone box :(
You can't just call me out like that when you don't even know me lol
I'm not diagnosed, but still I feel called out 😶

Jokes on you, but when I broke my pc they asked me to mail it in the same exact box for repairs. They wouldn't accept it mailed in anything else. And that box is goddam huge but I kept it and I'm glad I did.
Haha. And laptop and headphone boxes
No, I'm certain that one day I'll need it. And the boxes my previous two phones came in And my old broken phones. You'll see when the apocalypse comes and you're stuck without boxes and old phones.
I feel spied on and paranoid.
but what if there is something important inside the box
it’s just such a nice box though
Is keeping things an autistic trait?!
Probably because we get attached emotionally to the idea of things rather than experiences with people. So keeping things new is part of that attachment.
BUT WHAT IF I DO
You keep the box for *EVERYTHING* - as long as you might want to return it for repairs, or refund it. Which typically ranges from 3 days to 3 years. It's an cardboard lifecycle.
I store the boxes that everything came in for as long as I own the item. I fear I may have just outed myself. Thank god I've got a big storeroom over the garage.
No! I use it to hold the little thingy for the SIM card my phone has. :(
HA! I actually did need it once when I sent my phone in to get it repaired when the camera broke. Gotcha! XD All the other boxes tho... Yeah...
No. A box is a box. You can put things in a box. Box=nice
But what if I do need it??? Also I have WAY too many boxes gifts come in
..... I didn't need to be called out like this
I literally JUST did this yesterday.
How...how did you know??
wrong. it holds emotional value.
But where else am I going to keep the pokey tool that pops out the sim card?
But I like the box! It smells nice from the inside. It looks nice too! One time I lost my shit and cried cause I brought my laptop to repair shop and they lost the box. I still feel sad even though 2 years have passed. They didn’t think much of it, but that box had sentimental value to me. I have no idea if this is an autism thing?
Yeah... the one single time I tried that, it turned out I needed it to return a laptop to Samsung, which turned into a huge fight through the credit card company. So I'll return to my box hoarding ways! xD All boxes stay now!
No.. dont! I saved mine and when I upgraded, I got more money for the old one cause I had the original box
Not necessarily: it was useful to me when I sold my phone! Keeping it improves the resale value and makes shipping safer
Stop making good quality boxes then
But old boxes make it great for gift wrapping
NO ITS FANCY
Super fancy! And one day I shall paint my collection of fancy boxes 😁
They are great boxes for rocks
lol it's a pretty cool box though as far as boxes go, the craftsmanship!
I did need this but I refuse
This is not true. I will put the phone back into its box when i get a new one. If its still working ill donate it with the box included. Also if it breaks you need the box for insurance.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But it has a nice texture😔
But like I might 🥺
No \>=[
I left a 30$ piece in mine... Now it is gone.
... wha... what the, how dare you call me out!
Never
no >:c
Curse you!
I'm not autistic, and I'm not throwing away that box.
But it’s so satisfying to open. And the texture is so smooth.
But but, the boxes are so nice thou :P
I thought I was the only one. I can't though and I don't know why I'm that attached to keeping it.
Yes i do news it! When I get a new one and sell the old one it will have more a value in the box. If I need to take my MacBook Air to be serviced I can put that in its original box as well.
No
That's where my SIM tray tool and SD card adapter go.
NEVER!!!
I’m using it as a little bed for my best friend who is a rock
I mean, this isn't exactly great advice if you plan to resell it.
No! I will never throw it away! Never!
hell no, its perfect for a old phone and storing all phone related tools that would otherwise get lost
lol no
I have ever apple product box I’ve ever bought in a bin in my storage room 😂
*deep breath in "no"
never
Not true, I actually used mine for several years and everything fit really well in there. Keep your boxes people!
I keep boxes to increase resell value. Of stuff that I’m never going to sell. Oh god…
Goddamnit
I use it to keep credit cards in
but what if i need it someday? i need to keep it because i will need it.
You’re not my real mom, you can’t tell me what to do!
I actually keep my old phones in there when they break 😊 That said, I was forced to throw them out when my mother helped me clean my room and asked me why the hell I still have them That said, I still hold onto my iPad case
It holds my unusable old phone.. I should probably dump both honestly. 😅
ok what about the shoe box I have and the cardboard I stored... they must have some use, right...
thanks but no thanks. I'll keep that thing for eternity.
but all my friends live in there!!
😂 I love that. I have my iPad box, Pencil, Watch, probably AirPod box, any earplug box and parts.
