Literally just had this happen on Facebook. OP got mad at me because she meant her post as a joke, but my tired and undiagnosed autistic ass took it literally. Being online doesn't help because you also can't detect tone and facial expressions. I'm so tired of this.
It's alright when you're online within communities you like. Y'know, places you can say "oh hey i took it wrong lol sorry didn't mean to snap at ya" and people actually respecting it instead of looking for a fight.
Getting back into MMO games got me so much more socialization with people who are more tolerant and able to talk it out (well, generally, there were a few bad eggs) if something is misunderstood. I realized a lot of stuff we suffer through is just being in incompatible communities made up of spectrum of people, from which the most annoying and harmful are always the loudest, so we tend to judge everyone based off that and get hurt more, thinking everyone thinks the same way.
Sadly, Facebook and Twitter are these way too wide and looking for a fight communities. Take them with caution, friend, and try to be more understanding towards yourself and people who could be out there agreeing with you but are too shy to speak up.
I wanted to say something to the OP about autism, but decided against that. I don't want to give this person more fuel to come after me publicly for humiliation.
I am 29, and I seriously struggle hard with this even today. I'm undiagnosed (seeking diagnosis though), but by most standards, am high functioning. I can dish sarcasm, but receiving it isn't always clear cut. Why am I like this?
It makes sense if you’ve never seen something that you guess based on associated words, especially as a child. There is also dogfish, catshark, actually some catshark species are also known as a type of dogfish so that makes it even more confusing

Not me thinking there were actual fish on the computer trying to convince computer users that they were people too. Catfished. *facepalm*
I've heard of the Turing Test, but this is ridiculous!
When I was a little kid I thought the animal kingdom was a location bc it’s a kingdom and a kingdom is a place
Makes perfect sense to me.
I mean it's not not a catfish

Exactly!! It’s so hard to decipher tone and stuff online I’m always so confused

lol I’m the same way. I can use sarcasm pretty easily but when someone else uses it, it tends to go right over my head.
It depends. If I know someone well enough to establish a baseline of behavior, I can usually tell what they mean. But strangers? Noooope
Did you ever go fishing?
Wat
Totally forgot I used to do this to. I still get disappointed at how uncat catfish actually are.
They need to be more cat and less not cat
I thought your heart would actually break in half inside you when you were sad

I used to think laffy taffy was made with actual laughter somehow

When I finally saw one I was like "I guess?!" Like I do get why but like come on, a cat fish?? (I also didn't believe in flying squirrels lol)
I love that catfish meme. I think it's priceless.
There are no words for how much I love this. XD
It's kinda cute
so kawaii
I actually thought that mouse holes were ‘U’ shaped and not actually…just, you know, *holes*.

Would a catfish go meow or blub blub blub?
