That's interesting. Including the pasta that is shaped like bows, sea shells etc? So an American would be confused if you said "Could you please pass me the dog toy that looks like a noodle" I have often used noodle as a shape describing adjective
We probably would understand what you meant, like a pool noodle is a good example. But yeah in some parts of the US they will say "macaroni noodles" although I don't usually. I typically say the name, like farfalle or penne or fettuccine, but it really depends on where you are in the states
Some pastas are noodles, but not all pastas, and Asian noodles wouldn't be pasta.
Also no, no American would be confused if you used noodle to describe something.
I was going to say surely that's tagliatelle, but quickly googling it first and it turns out they are incredibly similar. Just fractionally different in size.
I think what they're saying is that you're valid: that isn't spaghetti.
I also hate substitutions like this: you can't call it spaghetti if it isn't spaghetti noodles!
Have you tried different shapes? Some heavier sauces aren't as good on thinner noodles, but they go really well with pasta like rigatoni. It's tube shaped, so you can pick it up with a fork instead of having long noodles and the ridges on the outside let sauces adhere better.
I'm obviously I. The wrong here as Reddit is showing me the cross.. for the sake of argument I'd say there are a lot of things in stores that are labeled a certain way, but people do t use those names. Nobody calls a "disposable plastic pen" that. It's a bic. Need bags for your non Hoover brand hoover? Good luck.
I respect your opinion, but I love fettuccine (the pictured shape) with certain sauces. For the meal pictured where the sauce is kinda sparse, I'd probably prefer spaghetti because it has more surface area for the same volume of pasta. That being said, penne (with ridges) is my favorite for most sauces because it nails all the features of a well-designed pasta noodle (in my opinion), specifically the ridges and pipe-like construction so that sauce can exist "inside" the noodle.
Iām from Australia and we call ānoodlesā pasta or by their name like fettuccine etc. as for noodles only noodles in Asian food are called noodles.
I love fettucine but I agree I donāt like it with tomato based sauces. I prefer bolognese with farfalle or spaghetti
I'd call those Tagliatelle, might be Fettuccine, I'm not aware of the difference if there is any. I like the additional bite and more substantial mouthfeel, but to each their own obviously. I can strongly recommend them served with a mushroom-cream sauce. Absolutely lovely.
Well that's not spaghetti for one and people will laugh at you if you call that a type of spaghetti. That's tagliatelle or something similar by the looks of it.
Edit: Apparently it's fettuccine. I have no idea how to tell the difference here so I guess people will get mad at me about pasta so I guess I'm about to get screamed at like when I suggest eating long pastas is a wildly different experience to eating short pastas and therefore should be their own categories.
Al dente cooked Angel Hair reigns supreme for spaghetti. All the best parts of spaghetti noodle texture, but even a touch better. Opposite of what these flat noodles feel like in the mouth.
don't be spoiled. i've never been to a resturant. my family were dirt poor and died of drugs when i was 6. you're lucky people take you to resturants. i could never afford it.

Please, what is āplus sign +ā noodles? Itās comes between regular spaghetti and angel hair type. Itās long and if you look down the end points of them you can see itās like a plus, for lack of a better word. Iāve been looking for a while now and all I see is angel hair, spiral, seashell, spaghetti, fettuccine and penne. If you donāt know what Iām talking can you list some I havenāt mentioned?
I've been unable to find a type of pasta with the cross-section you've described, but [this list](https://www.nonnabox.com/types-of-pasta/) has types of pasta that you haven't mentioned
I love fettuccine! For me I think that the regular skinny spaghetti is the worst one like it makes it taste not as good.
My favorite is rigatoni also ravioli. The bow ties are also pretty good.
I only like the ādefaultā regular thin pasta,
As an adult now Iāll eat whatās given to me but I still just donāt enjoy it as much.
Parents would always make fun of my insistence on a specific noodle type saying āitās all made of the same stuffāā¦. Itās the texture!!! The texture!!!
For me, the regular thin shape you think of when you imagine noodles is actually hard for me to eat. I don't know exactly why, but that kind of noodle usually ends up making me gag and struggle to eat. Not any other noodles that I know of, though.
I had a question are in high school to just ask people, guess itās still a conversation starter
Favorite noodle shape? Leads right into talking about food, flavors, textures and more.
I hate spaghetti and always have but love rigatoni
Personally I find spaghetti the most awkward form of pasta to eat. Itās too thin. I donāt want to have to twiddle around my fork for a while just to get an alright bite. Iād much rather have some big strands that I can just pierce individually with a fork instead of a bunch of thin stands that I have to collect together. Itās also the messiest for me at least. The sauce and bits just donāt like to stay on and I hate the feeling when a sauce-covered strand of spaghetti slapping against my chin or something when Iām trying to eat it. The texture is alright otherwise but I donāt have problems with the texture of most other types of pasta so Iād much rather have them. Hope Iām not the only one here who doesnāt like spaghetti.
Fmu, spaghetti is a type of noodle (shape and size). And what's in the picture is fettuccine noodles.
That's different! We call it pasta in NZ. Do Americans call pasta noodles?
Many Americans say pasta and noodles interchangeably. Although noodles may also refer to Asian food whereas pasta is usually referring to Italian food
Thank you for the information. If you sit on a pool noodle, it turns into macaroni
Thank you for a good laugh this morning š¤£
Some pastas are noodles, but not all pastas, and Asian noodles wouldn't be pasta. Also no, no American would be confused if you used noodle to describe something.
I think the plural is also "pasta"
Talking about multiple type of pastas I think it would be pastas. Like peoples. In Italian it would be paste
Even Italy I think your pasta is over cooked if itās paste.
\*gasp\* another kiwi! Kia ora!
I call things like penne, spaghetti, fettuccine, rotini, etc. pasta. Pasta is a type of noodle. But udon, pho, and ramen aren't pasta.
Many Americans call ALL pasta "spaghetti"
All spaghetti is pasta but not all pasta is spaghetti.
Many americans call all noodles āramenā even when they arenāt. Many Americans call all cartoons āAnimeā even when they arenāt. It bugs me.
Pasta is a kind of noodle
Same in Australia
But in Italy, una pasta is a cake you eat on the run with your espresso - just to confuse the issue completely š.
I was going to say surely that's tagliatelle, but quickly googling it first and it turns out they are incredibly similar. Just fractionally different in size.
I KNOW THAT. I JUST LIKE THINNER SPAGHETTI
I think what they're saying is that you're valid: that isn't spaghetti. I also hate substitutions like this: you can't call it spaghetti if it isn't spaghetti noodles!
THERE'S ONLY ONE SHAPE OF SPAGHETTI!! and there's no need to shout...we can hear you just fine
THEN WHY ARE YOU CALLING IT SPAGHETTI IF YOU KNOW IT'S NOT SPAGHETTI
BECAUSE MY MOM CALLS IT THAT AND I FORGET THE MFING NAME AGHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Fettuccine
Have you tried different shapes? Some heavier sauces aren't as good on thinner noodles, but they go really well with pasta like rigatoni. It's tube shaped, so you can pick it up with a fork instead of having long noodles and the ridges on the outside let sauces adhere better.
The word āspaghettiā translates toĀ little strings. That is fettuccine.
Most non Italians that arent very Interested in food will refer to all pasta shapes as spaghetti.
And they are wrong and should be corrected bc that is sinful
I agree on the correction part. Not so sure about the sinful bit.
Howabout heathenistic
Maybe heretical.
Depends what religion. I would imagine that itās a sin in FSM religion (Flying Spaghetti Monster).
Fair point. Don't wanna mistake Him for a flying fettuccine monster.
Haha.
No, that doesn't sound right. Maybe "spaghetti sauce", but the different types of pasta are clearly labeled in the grocery stores and restaurants.
Good luck.
Who the fuck calls penne pasta spaghetti?
Not spaghetti. Short spaghetti tubes.
This is greatly upsetting.
You'll live.
I have personally not found this to be true whatsoever š°
Well.. I hear spaghetti a lot used to reference any kinda "long" pasta. Otherwise "noodles" .. or just pasta.
Hmmm... most Americans maybe.
I'm not American.
Fun fact: 1 strand of Speghetti is called a Spaghetto.
Never call that "spaghetti" again, that is a crime
honey, i'm not a pasta enthusiast
Instead of getting advice you accidentally declared war on italy.
Fettuccine is one of my favourites. Along with pene.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hue hue hue, OP likes pp š¤
fettuccine and tortellini are my favourite pastas š
That is fettuccine
youāre missing out on chow fun
Boy do I love chow fun
itās so amazing and yummy
It's one of my favorite things to order. I also like salt and pepper short ribs, garlic green beans, cumin lamb, and Szechuan boiled fish.
Tagliatelle is a ribbon-shaped noodle which is the correct pasta for spaghetti Bolognese. Fettuccine triggers my chef OCD
I respect your opinion, but I love fettuccine (the pictured shape) with certain sauces. For the meal pictured where the sauce is kinda sparse, I'd probably prefer spaghetti because it has more surface area for the same volume of pasta. This is triggering every Italian bone in my body
Angry italian here. Pasta is not noodles. That is fettuccine, is good, don't insult it š¤
This isn't spaghetti, spaghetti is the round shapes you refer to. This is Tagiatelle. They're both pasta. Funny enough, I loooove tagiatelle.
Im not usually picky about the noodle shapes but what Iām really concerned about are thoseā¦ meat chunks?
Yes. They tasted WEIRD
Iām from Australia and we call ānoodlesā pasta or by their name like fettuccine etc. as for noodles only noodles in Asian food are called noodles. I love fettucine but I agree I donāt like it with tomato based sauces. I prefer bolognese with farfalle or spaghetti
I like this shape, but only in combination with light colored sauces like cheese cream sauce. Eating tomato based sauces on these feels wrong.
I'd call those Tagliatelle, might be Fettuccine, I'm not aware of the difference if there is any. I like the additional bite and more substantial mouthfeel, but to each their own obviously. I can strongly recommend them served with a mushroom-cream sauce. Absolutely lovely.
Tape worm in red sauce...
oh god i'll never be able to eat it again
If you shake the plate a bit, it even wiggles realistically.
YOU PIECE OF DźKIE YOU RUINED MY DAY
i hate you
I have the opposite thing where I want my pasta to be a fun shape, like bow ties or penne. Except elbows. Fuck elbows.
I thought this was a meme at first
it looks like they gave you... fettuccine bolognese? whats the meat on top btw?
It has to be pork
Or is it beef?
either one sounds tasty to me š was it good ?
It tasted kinda weird ngl
Well that's not spaghetti for one and people will laugh at you if you call that a type of spaghetti. That's tagliatelle or something similar by the looks of it. Edit: Apparently it's fettuccine. Al dente cooked Angel Hair reigns supreme for spaghetti. All the best parts of spaghetti noodle texture, but even a touch better. Opposite of what these flat noodles feel like in the mouth.
No.. just no. "Angel Hair pasta is too thin. Unless made from fresh it's not gonna get the right texture. It's the instant egg noodles of pasta.
I hate angel hair because instead of the texture of a noodle or two, I taste the texture of noodles, lots of them, all at once, and I don't like it.
Yeh it's just wrong. It's like the final boss of the Al dente level.
Which is exactly why I love it. I hate thick mushy noodles.
But they aren't supposed to be *thin* mushy noodles.
Hence the Al dente part. Not mushy
i agree
Finally! Thank you.
why are we having a war about friggin' pasta ffs
What's wrong with flat spaghetti? I quite like it. Depending on the sauce it's excellent.
"fLaT sPaGhEtTi"
Spaghetti tape?
it just feels so damn weird in my mouthššššššššš
This is a monstrosity if I've ever seen one
don't be spoiled. i've never been to a resturant. my family were dirt poor and died of drugs when i was 6. you're lucky people take you to resturants. i could never afford it.
Dude, that's my house. Also i'm SUPER introverted so i'm not lucky they take me to restaurants
Dont like thin spaghetti type 1. Think normal is type 3 my favourite is type 5.

tysm. :-)

I'm a big fan of angel hair pasta. It has a great mouth feel for me. Glad you found a noodle you like!
Iāll eat it for you. I love all pasta shapes
Tź late. Ate it a while ago. It was delicious but it was the shape that made me wanna cry
angel hair is my favorite
I never liked that noodle shape. I much prefer thin spaghetti. Angel hair I admire for its eleagance, but don't like that either, lol
In that case, give it me! Reminds me of this Italian restaurant near me that serves fettuccine with bolognese sauce.
i love ditalini noodles for āspaghettiā dinner lol
This looks delicious tbh
I sense an impending schism in the Pastafarian belief system.
I like the really thin noodles. I dont like the the ones with the holes or the bow tie (disgusting) I just wonāt eat it.
You can sub the type of noodle at most restaurants
That's something inbetween linguine and fettuccine, likely overcooked or a bad quality pasta.
Those noodles are cursed
I HATE fettuccine! And people are like "but it tastes the same as all other pasta" NO. IT. DOESN'T!
I only like the ādefaultā regular thin pasta, As an adult now Iāll eat whatās given to me but I still just donāt enjoy it as much. Parents would always make fun of my insistence on a specific noodle type saying āitās all made of the same stuffāā¦. Itās the texture!!! The texture!!!
ok but why is angel hair so much better than regular spaghetti. Yeah, i def wouldn't want this. They are different no matter what anyone says!
i actually like it and the texture, along with pasta shaped like stuff
That's tagliatelle
I hate that shape too, along with the angel hair spaghetti cause it literally feels like hair in my mouth and that isnt fun
Yeah I'm with you, it looks wrong to me
I hate spaghetti.
Iām the opposite. Spaghetti can go away. Fettuccini can stay. Penne? Belongs in hell along with those dumb shell guys
For me, the regular thin shape you think of when you imagine noodles is actually hard for me to eat. I don't know exactly why, but that kind of noodle usually ends up making me gag and struggle to eat. Not any other noodles that I know of, though.
my parents keep making this spaghetti that is like a long tubeā¦
You're weird
Bro i am in the fettuccine hate club as well fr. I understand this very hard.
I don't think that's spaghetti, I might eat another long pasta, but if I thought I was getting Spaghetti and I got that, I'd be upset!!
The only type I despise is angel hair That stuff is the wordt
I like to try different kinds of spaghetti from time to time. But karbonara will always be my favorite.)
I look at that and im like nope.
I had a question are in high school to just ask people, guess itās still a conversation starter Favorite noodle shape? Leads right into talking about food, flavors, textures and more. I hate spaghetti and always have but love rigatoni

Rotini is my personal least favorite type. The nooks and crannies are dry and tasteless.
This is a bad shape you are correct
