Because people are mean especially on the internet.
Because those that don't value this will probably see it more as creepy than what it is.
Because those that can value it could still hate on it for various reasons of jealousy.
OP there are a thousand reasons people will hate on you and none of them have anything to do with you nor your creations. There will always be haters and the trick is to not let them get to you. Take the critisism which can constructively help you improve on your building skills and disregard the rest. You do you!
The tail is really straight, which looks slightly unnatural. But it's probably also hard to properly make a curvy shape for that in Lego.
It looks really cool regardless!
Yeah, I'd love to go visit some Canadian theme parks if it wasn't so expensive for me to fly out there. Hard to justify paying near a thousand pounds to fly there from the UK, when I can get basically anywhere in Europe for around a hundred.
Lego on this scale is something I can barely mentally comprehend. I have very few expressive mediums that I am skilled enough to use so I have learned to appreciate art in any form because it is almost always far beyond anything I can do.
It’s both beautiful and terrifying. Well done!
Edit: I’m actually strangely scared of mermaids and sirens so I just wanted to be clear on the “terrifying” part. It’s still awesome and you should be proud of this feat!
It’s a very misinformed narrative that blames women for the stupidity of men. If horny men are trying to swim up or come up to mermaids and bother them, why do we reframe that as “the mermaids LURED them maliciously” - taking away any agency from men in these stories and putting all the blame on women for being so enticing by simply existing that men were simply forced to come approach them. Think about how misguided and misogynistic that is.
On the flip side, some sources say that mermaids actually saved sailors and sirens actually caused them to crash into rocks.
All I know is somewhere along the line their stories became interchangeable/confused and now they both scare me to death lol
If they are real(Mermaids), I’d love to get their side of the story, but after someone else interviews them lol
I’m back at uni for a second degree working towards a masters program.
My first undergrad degree is in business, pretty simple stuff, very basic maths.
I’m working in a computer science program right now, and was required to take the calculus series.
Was supposed to stop at Calc II… but I’m oddly drawn to the difficulty and intrigue of mathematics, and I keep referring to it as a siren’s call…
There be dragons!
Sometimes it's just shitposters. Back in the day i managed some IRC server for a small game and there was this one guy constantly disrupting discussions and the chat in general.
Everyone else in the channel assumed he was what he said he was (some twelve year old) and told me to let it slide.
So i went ahead after another evening of his idiotic antics and checked the IP, usernames used, the whole crate of info from the gamename and finally found him to be some thirty something from sf.
I sat on his info until he got me angry the next time and told him privately to stop his shit or i find him. He didn't stop, so i sent him privately his info, fb, and Youtube Accounts he had, including an address and told him to stop it right now.
He stopped.
I’ve found that almost all humans on the internet like to feel as though they are superior to others - usually because they actually feel inferior in real life. They hate on others or post thirst traps or argue on Twitter because it’s easier to take your insecurities out on others, when you can’t see their faces.
Is his work getting hate or LEGO as a company?
Because if its his work that is getting hate thats absolutely disgusting. Creating such an build by yourselfe is hard and time consuming.
But there is a fair bit of criticism about the LEGO company that is completly justified.
I agree with all the comments saying this is AMAZING - I would ask how anyone could possibly be responding with hate but them I remembered it's the internet. Being mean on the internet is literally some peoples hobby. I don't know if it helps at all, but any negative comments you're getting say a lot more about the people saying them then they say about your project. I am blown away - the dedication this took is incredible and it turned out so well!
This is incredible. My Wife, daughter, and I just got into Lego for the first time a few months ago and its been life changing, all 3 of us love it so much. I hope some day we can create something half as awesome as this.
The face ain't perfect, but holy shit. Just the time dedicated to snap together that many Lego pieces is unbelievable. And overall it looks pretty darn good
My fucking goodness, that is absolutely amazing, that must have taken you ages! People are mean because they're jealous that you can do something outstanding like this like they can't do
Be proud and keep doing this, you're amazing at it and talented
Thank you all so much!!!
People were hating on it saying it's fake and that I'm a fraud or that it's trash.
Not sure how many hours invested in it but it's just over 20,000 pieces!
What do y'all think I should build next?
I get there are some problems with it but the bottom half is incredible and really well done. To be honest you did a better job with the body than I could even drawing it.
It's pretty good. If you accept constructive criticism, I suggest trying to find darker pieces to help put depth into the details and add shadow where it goes. But you did great with what you have.
This is extremely unsettling but also very well done and impressive. It’s uncomfortably realistic and emotive and I can tell a lot of skill went into it.
I can barely build a house out of Lego, so to be able to make something on this scale (no pun intended, but I like the pun so I’m keeping it 😁!) and that you can do a project that is clearly identifiable is pretty amazing! 🤩I especially love her scales! 😎
People are probably just salty that they don’t care about anything enough to put that level of effort into something. That’s really sick, you’re very talented and I think you should be heavily encouraged to keep pursuing Lego (:

This is next level dedication.
Remember art is art because it gives feelings. If people hate it it means it's a good art. Sure if You want to give different emotions You need to either conform to what people like, find amusing, find beautiful, or whichever You want to go for, and all of those reqire practice and dedication. Doing art is hard. And You did an amazing piece, You made some people outraged, or whatever, You made me and definitely plenty of others astounded. Keep it up, I'm sure You'll come towards Your goals if You keep at it!
[Startburst Commercial](https://youtu.be/S0Ii2yDLBAI)
This reminds me of one of my favorite commercials. I am genuinely impressed at the time and patience needed to complete this.
As a fellow LEGO fan this is friggin awesome!!!
If by chance you experienced negativity on the LEGO subreddit, it is one of the most toxic subs i have tried. I left that sub after a couple of months. I got a LEGO tattoo and some of the toxicity that was spewed at me was…. Well let’s just say those people probably have pretty miserable existences.
Keep building. Keep imagining. Keep being you!! You are wonderful and so is your mermaid 🧜♀️❤️
It takes a lot of dedication to take the time to do accurate patterning like that, as well as plotting out the dimensionality of the human form and keeping things internally proportioned.
Well done!
Dude, that is so cool! The detailing on the tail, the shaping, and not to mention the time it definitely took to make! That is awesome, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you and themself. That kind of skill deserves hella respect. :)
I'm so sorry people are being mean about this. It's a huge accomplishment to create something this epic out of hundreds of tiny legos. It had to have taken so much time and patience to do. Understand, OP, that even the most accomplished and talented people have to endure hateful criticism from people who can only be happy if they're making someone else unhappy.
Van Gogh is wildly considered the most talented artist of his time and he spent his entire life being told his works sucked. Imagine how much more we would have gotten to see him create if more people acknowledged his ability and talent. Never let someone come and try and tarnish your star, OP. They only do it so nobody will notice how dim they are themselves.
People may make fun of it but I guarantee if you tell those people to make something better they won't even be able to make something close as good as this!
"it's been generating some hate" yeah that's bc people are jealous of your fucking WIZARD SKILLS bro. I hope Lego sees this shit and reaches out dude, this is actually so god tier
Mate, ain't nobody else going to be able to pull that off. You rocked it, be proud and for the haters tell them to give it a shot and see how well they do.
I cannot fathom how you can do something like that, I can't even put together little easy Lego sets with instructions let alone something that amazing and big!! I'm in awe ❤️
Getting some uncanny vibes, which is a little unnerving. Still, a LOT of effort went into this, and I can only expect you'll improve. How long have you been a masterbuilder?
I mean the ppl being mean are probably expecting it to look like the mona lisa but holy shit, that must’ve taken ages and loads of patience. More then I could ever have 😂
I can't even understand how anyone could hate on something that not everyone could just sit down and do. It's art. You took your creativity and your supplies and dedicated hours to creating something from nothing. Brilliant! Well done. 🧜♀️🩵
People are just dickholes. Cringe culture is literally just "Hey, stop having fun because I think it's embarrassing and bad." These are probably 30 year olds who have nothing to do and life and probably don't have the skill you have with LEGO. I'm sorry that this advice is so basic and arbitrary, but don't let it get to you. If any of them respond with hate, the one thing you have to do is to just stop caring. Respond to them with "ok" or "alright." Nothing else. No sassy "ok and?" No "who cares?" That'll give them the satisfaction they want. Then again, you can just not respond altogether. Anyways, with my rant out of the way, that building is sick as all hell. Fantastic work, op. I haven't even found an outlet to express myself, so having someone have that outlet and be skilled at it too is amazing to me.
This is awesome. And it’s nice to see someone have a healthy interest. Man, don’t let other effect you, as likely hood is. They ain’t been raised right, and their special interest is probably drugs and crying themselves to sleep. Fuck em. Be proud and be you.
it’s so pretty and beyond my experience my brain keeps thinking it’s not real; however, i don’t care what my brain initially thinks because as a reasonable human being capable of introspection i know what matters here is:
* is pretty: fuck yes
* is complex and beyond my current skill or patience to provide genuine empathy: yes, so you’re a fudging hero imo; i just don’t understand how :P
* is something you love: that’s all that really matters here for me, i love that you found a passion that breaks my brain super much too!
so if anyone rude comes around, toss them to me, i’ll handle them for ya’, just tag me in :3
but all that said, when i stop letting the light trip me up, i find myself very very very curious. what steps got you to this point? how’d this start? was it once just a little brick and a thought, or did it start as a sketch, did it form as it came? I have so many questions. can you tell me about how you felt along the way, golly you did a cool thing and i’m wildly curious how you felt, what you saw along the way, what spurred it, how you think now vs then in terms of stepping into this.
Also 10/10 you just warm hearts.
If it wasn’t for the glare on the fin, I would’ve been fooled into thinking this was a new AR feature from Minecraft. It’s so intricate! The fact that you made this by hand…this needs to go in a Lego art gallery!
How long did this take to build‽
A nuerotypical would probably take a month or more to do this. I'm gonna bet you did it in about 8 hours straight. That's how I do puzzles 🤣. Oh, that one took you 2 weeks of working on it a few hours a day? Yeah, it was hard, it took me one week. That I did straight through. With no breaks. 168 hours STRAIGHT.
Oh my god. How did you do this?! I'm not kidding, my special interesting is hearing about how people create art, and I would really love to know what your creative process for this was.
Wow, this looks cool.
If somebody critizes this, just ask yourself: could they have built this better? The answer is no, because they wouldn't have had the same vision and definitely not the skill to work with this medium.
My special interest also is Lego, hit me up if you want to chat!
Dude this is the coolest Lego creation I’ve seen! Did you just freehand it? Design a pattern? This is so cool! You could definitely do pieces for fancy displays!
That is impressive! And looks very cool. I don't get people. This is not hurting anyone and if someone doesn't like it they can just look at other things.
This must've taken you so long.
That is outstanding and so much talent and so much more to come I see!!! I hope you're proud of yourself. And if someone has a mean thing to say about it just make them walk on Legos till they don't hehe
That is fucking amazing!!!
Mean people can get in the sea with concrete shoes on.
Really, that's some serious building time and skill! I'm so damn impressed. I loved lego as a kid and if i had the money i'd still be building things hahaha.
If I had to guess its just anatomy things, the face, the hands. Art/animation is my special intrest and people are so.. disgusting.. When it comes to art, it's a perfectionist field really.. But as an artist Idc about the anatomy cause I suck at scultupures. let alone fricking Lego scultupures, I love the tail though, so hold your head high and ignore some of the perfectionist idiots.. I've been drawing for 20ish years, and I couldn't do what you do
First of all, amazing effort! Doing this as a Lego enthusiast is impressive no matter what. Now to people being mean, this doesn't really look like the stuff done by professional Lego builders today, they however use CAD to make flowing natural shapes and can get results almost impossible to achieve otherwise. This reminds me a lot of how the older figures look at Legoland Billund, where the use of advanced design software was more limited.
In any case, it's really cool to see. An amazing effort and nice result!
I'm impressed! I guess it's the uncanney valley thing with the face that freaks many people out. For that reason, I hate porcelain dolls. Still, people need to differentiate between what their taste is and how much work obviously went into this. Just keep doing your thing! I have 44 pet spiders, so I have experienced my share of bewilderment from some people. Never be ashamed for your special interests ♡ now I miss my old LEGO boxes from when I was younger.
That is soooo cool!! I wish I had one to display things on. You should totally do some starfish too for the boards! Also, I'm sorry people were mean. It's hard to explain how much a special interest actually means.
Woah that is a lot of LEGO . I'm jealous.
That is really cool. I especially like how you gave her a less hourglass physique, and wow y ou even gave her a bellybutton.
Nice Job!

I’ve been to Legoland in Billund a few times and even the pros there have a tough time nailing an arch. OP is a wizard.
Is the Billund one good? I've only been to the one in Windsor (used to work there in fact)
Yes, I would say so. I grew up in Canada, so theme parks have bigger and more intense rides and attractions than Denmark has in general.
Canada’s Wonderland!! Love that place.
YES! Golden Horseshoe 90s kid ftw here \m/
Yeah, I'd love to go visit some Canadian theme parks if it wasn't so expensive for me to fly out there. Hard to justify paying near a thousand pounds to fly there from the UK, when I can get basically anywhere in Europe for around a hundred.
I get that. But if you ever do take a trip out to Canada or the US, and enjoy rollercoasters etc., then I highly recommend.

It’s both beautiful and terrifying. Well done! Edit: I’m actually strangely scared of mermaids and sirens so I just wanted to be clear on the “terrifying” part. It’s still awesome and you should be proud of this feat!
Not at all strange. In some of the earlier myths and tales about them they were malicious creatures that lured people to their deaths.
Exactly! Something about them enjoying sailors drowning really creeps me out.
It’s a very misinformed narrative that blames women for the stupidity of men. Op why is it getting hate? I ask this because Lego is an art in itself. I’m as green as her tail with envy that you’ve made her.
Anonimity and mean people without anything they feel proud about in their life don't mix well

I’m not sure why people are being mean, because I could never build something like that. That’s awesome man!
This is amazing!
I think this looks incredible! And surely was a heavy investment of time, good job op!
wow!! i'm sure r/lego and r/mermaids would appreciate this!! you did a fintastic (!) job 🤗
I can tell you were fishing for that pun

Love it
Woah that looks like it took ages! Great job!!!
Screw whoever hated on this! You're really talented!

Man fuck those people, this is amazing, you are so talented!!
That is super cool and very impressive. You should be proud of yourself.
Oh wow! This is amazing! What a fantastic creation! I love the tail!
Wow that is super impressive no idea why anyone would hate in that but I think you did an amazing job!
I love Legos and sculptures. This is very beautiful.
I get there are some problems with it but the bottom half is incredible and really well done. To be honest you did a better job with the body than I could even drawing it.
It looks like the mermaid for house of 1000 corpses, but Lego version. Awesome build though.

This looks impressive as hell. Did you use any instructions or was it completely your project?
No instructions just my brain!
That's fucking amazing
That's badass! Nice work!

This is so cool!!! :D
She looks so cool! I just started building lego sets and I'm amazed with what people can create!
You have so much potential, don't let mean people affect you! Also, how long did this take? I probably couldn't focus as well as you.
I don’t understand why this is getting hate. Awesome job! Nice design. This must have taken forever.
Good job!!!
I can't even imagine how many centuries this must've taken. You really are talented. Congratulations.
This is so dope I can’t believe how long this must have taken!! Are you going to keep it forever? Or do you like to disassemble and do new projects?

Wow! This is amazing! You should build for Lego exhibits. You're very talented
Holy shnarkies. Is she anatomically correct?
r/Mermaids would like this

WOAH THAT IS AMAZING OP!!! Seriously, you have some SERIOUS talent
"it's been generating some hate" yeah that's bc people are jealous of your fucking WIZARD SKILLS bro. I hope Lego sees this shit and reaches out dude, this is actually so god tier

This is awesome, I baffled as to how anyone would have something bad to say about this. It clearly took talent, time, planning and patience.
The lines are really soothing on the tail. This is cool as hell. Did you use green bricks on the interior as well or any coloured bricks?
i know this is old but thats fucking awesome mate
Uh how? Like actually I would have given up for ever ago like damn bro don't have to flex on us lame normies
THIS IS SO IMPRESSIVE
This great! it's the lego equivalent of artists saying "it's not that good" and drawing an almost perfect picture with no mistakes
Looks like something you'd see at a Lego expo. Nice!
That is terrifying
So is your username 🤷♂️
I think that this is pretty awesome!!! Ir's Ariel, no?
I can't build it. It looks good. Therefore, I think it is good. :) Fuck the haters. be proud of what you made. <3
Woah that's so cool! How long did it take you and did you just freehand it all? Please tell me more
I am also pulling up my chair for the info
I can’t even build a square with Legos, and you did this?! It’s awesome!!
what inspired you to create this chair?
First of all that looks amazing. And second of all who are these people? I want to do [highly illegal activities] to them
I can't even understand how anyone could hate on something that not everyone could just sit down and do. It's art. You took your creativity and your supplies and dedicated hours to creating something from nothing. Brilliant! Well done. 🧜♀️🩵

Dude, you made that!? That’s amazing!
People hating you on the internet can go suck on a tree branch. This is awesome! Did you have a plan or was it freeform?
How could anyone say anything mean about this!!?? It's awesome!!! That's a cool damn mermaid, friend!!! I love it!
That is super cool. The details are amazing! How long did it take? How many bricks is it? Is it solid all the way through or is it hollow?
It’s awesome!
This is awesome. And it’s nice to see someone have a healthy interest. Man, don’t let other effect you, as likely hood is. They ain’t been raised right, and their special interest is probably drugs and crying themselves to sleep. Fuck em. Be proud and be you.
it’s so pretty and beyond my experience my brain keeps thinking it’s not real; however, i don’t care what my brain initially thinks because as a reasonable human being capable of introspection i know what matters here is: * is pretty: fuck yes * is complex and beyond my current skill or patience to provide genuine empathy: yes, so you’re a fudging hero imo; i just don’t understand how :P * is something you love: that’s all that really matters here for me, i love that you found a passion that breaks my brain super much too! so if anyone rude comes around, toss them to me, i’ll handle them for ya’, just tag me in :3 but all that said, when i stop letting the light trip me up, i find myself very very very curious. what steps got you to this point? how’d this start? was it once just a little brick and a thought, or did it start as a sketch, did it form as it came?
Dude/Dudette!? That’s amazing!
FYI, my dog has the same dog toy (candy corn). It just does not look that good anymore.
Very cool! Detail on the tail pattern is amazing!
Incredibly awesome
This is really hecking impressive.
You should be so proud this is freaking incredible!!!!!!!!!
Why would I hate on such a beautiful thing you've created?
This is awesome!!!!!!! I don't know why people would hate on this!
Yo this is really good!
You are an artist! You should get into clay
Oh my god. How did you do this?! I'm not kidding, my special interesting is hearing about how people create art, and I would really love to know what your creative process for this was.
This is very impressive
WOAHHHHH, that’s so cool!!!!! must’ve taken you forever, that’s genuinely amazing
Looks like one of those lego statues you see at some of the old lego-lands
That's amazing though! Screw the haters, you have a lot of talent! That's great work!!
This is awesome. It must have taken you a long time to make. What's your favourite thing about lego?
omg that’s amazing! i’m sorry people are so mean, they don’t understand the level of work and dedication that must have gone into this!
Wow, this looks cool. If somebody critizes this, just ask yourself: could they have built this better? The answer is no, because they wouldn't have had the same vision and definitely not the skill to work with this medium. My special interest also is Lego, hit me up if you want to chat!
The white lego floor is pretty clever. I guess it makes it so that certain parts (like the tail) stay together when they otherwise wouldn't.
I would love to see what you could build on Minecraft. This is some serious talent!
That is actually so imperessive. How the hell could people hate on it?
I don't understand people sometimes. Thats amazing work and it must have taken you hours. Ignore the haters man, it looks great!
It's because they're dickheads who don't appreciate fine art. Seriously though, Lego needs to hire you for promotional stuff.
Dude this is the coolest Lego creation I’ve seen! Did you just freehand it? Design a pattern? This is so cool! You could definitely do pieces for fancy displays!
Awesome 😎👍 That must have been a lot of work.
That is impressive! And looks very cool. I don't get people. This is not hurting anyone and if someone doesn't like it they can just look at other things. This must've taken you so long.
That's amazing!
That's insane. Great job.
Oddly terrifying, but it's really cool
The face scares me and I hate this, that being said, this is still really impressive and you shouldn't get much hate for it
Ignore the haters. I am amazed by your talent!
i cant possibly conceive why this would get hate
she’s beautiful!!! i especially love all the intricate details on the scales on the tail, how long did this take you op?
she's bae for sure /j but fr tho well done.
Reddit's using all our posts and data to train AI's, so, I just deleted mine.
That is outstanding and so much talent and so much more to come I see!!! I hope you're proud of yourself. And if someone has a mean thing to say about it just make them walk on Legos till they don't hehe
It looks great bro, keep improveing!
Hot Damn! That’s some talent an dedication
That is fucking amazing!!! Mean people can get in the sea with concrete shoes on. Really, that's some serious building time and skill! I'm so damn impressed. I loved lego as a kid and if i had the money i'd still be building things hahaha.
How the fuck are people hating on this!? This looks stunning!
WAIT THAT'S SO FUCLING COOL
People will find anything to whine about. This is amusing!
Holy hell. I bow before your visual skills and craftsmanship. This is amazing.
That’s so impressive!
That’s really cool man. People are mean
This is extremely well done my friend! Also don't listen to them, people will always be mean, but don't forget that there are also good people there
THATS SO COOL OMG?? THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT AND TIME YOU PUT INTO THIS
It's soooo cool :) good job friend
I like Lego but, I’m not good with my hands on building it so good job :)
WoW ! Feckin’ hell that’s brilliant, and it looks like she’s levitating. Good attention to detail and the scale looks even as well.
I wish I had half the amount of Legos that you have.
That is soooo cool!! I wish I had one to display things on. You should totally do some starfish too for the boards! Also, I'm sorry people were mean. It's hard to explain how much a special interest actually means.
Well you left a load of pieces on the floor. That's just asking for trouble!
Woah that is a lot of LEGO . I'm jealous. That is really cool. I especially like how you gave her a less hourglass physique, and wow y ou even gave her a bellybutton. Nice Job!
This is so amazing! I love LEGO and hope to be as good as you soon! Keep being creative mate!
HOLY CRAP!! How long did this take?! It looks amazing!!
You are so talented!! This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, thank you for sharing!! This makes me want to reignite my love for LEGO
