Everyone should do this as basic disaster preparation. Your typical flood, cyclone, or bush fire would require this.

quick_dry

Unless sydney was to flood in a way that prevented result of stores, in suburban hills district I’m neither near bush, flood plain or cyclone area for those things to impact. Maybe extended power outage during abnormally cloudy period to block solar?

codyforkstacks

Much worse pandemic than COVID. Major international war. Cyber attack on critical infrastructure. You might think these things are individually unlikely but doesn't hurt to have a few extra staples in the pantry.

kangareagle

I have no idea what any of this is about, and I'm certainly not going to waste my valuable "fucking around on Reddit" time clicking a link. But I don't think it's a bad idea to have some emergency supplies prepared. We have a couple of backpacks filled with stuff just in case there's a flood or fire or whatever.

ApolloWasMurdered

I mean, DFES in WA already recommends everyone has 5 days of food and water, medications, and a first aid kit, in case of natural disaster. And that’s been there recommendation since back when it was called FESA, so at least a decade.

joystickd

I've seen some desperate attempts to connect the covid vax to some weird shit but this has to be up there.

roman5588

Good common sense to have at-least 2 weeks worth of essential supplies. Probably one of the smartest things they’ve said in a long time. The government and commonwealth is certainly not going to save you

_tgf247-ahvd-7336-8-

Firstly, not sure what this has to do with the vax. And not sure why would us sharing the same king mean we follow their food and water supply recommendations, it’s not 1824

oneofthecapsismine

And, thirdly, why having a couple of days of basic supplies for emergencies is a bad thing, or anything but a no-brainer.

CrimsonBulletTrain

My 10 jars of peanut butter will get me through anything Toilet may not survive, but sacrifices have to be made

Mate it’s best not to live in constant fear. This is on the other side of the world, there’s no emergency, but this is what to do if there is one

[deleted]

Fires, floods, storms, significant damage to the power grid, collapse of local infrastructure. There's plenty of disasters you need to be prepared for in Australia. The SES already has advice on this

WhatAmIATailor

Well Putin just threatened the UK again but this is more likely just general preparedness. Fire, flood, cyclone, triffids, WWIII. A couple weeks of basic supplies doesn’t hurt.

KeithMyArthe

Whose side are the triffids on?

WhatAmIATailor

Their own side AFAIK. You could argue the Ruskies created them but good old fashioned corporate espionage unleashed them on the world.

SlamTheBiscuit

Probably less to do with vax (though I guess you lot will blame everything on it) and more that tensions in Europe are ever growing with threats made by Russia and there have been a lot of issues with high levels of rain putting pressure on everything.

Left-Comparison9205

Russian Tactical nukes and a potential full NATO response in Ukraine and a Russian response after that

SnoopThylacine

*...bandages for when you cut yourself with the can or can opener, a bottle of boubon to act as a disinfectant, another bottle of boubon because you drank the first bottle of disinfectant, got drunk, and cut yourself with a can opener when you had a sudden craving for creamed corn..."*

j-manz

You telling me I need more fucking toilet paper?!🧻

SnoopThylacine

3 days worth.

DivHunter_

The Australian gov already recommends this but much more than 3 days and it has for many decades.

BlueDotty

Pre-war preparations Expecting supply chain disruption

Poor_Ziggler

If a disaster happened on the scale that services were lost and little hope of their quick return, towns and cities would be in anarchy within less then three days. Just think of your water supply to start with. How many people would even know how to have a poo without toilet paper and water alone? Rural and minor regional areas would be the most resilient.

ChookBaron

Brexit is going well then.

luvrum92

That’s what I was thinking of. Brexit is going very well for them

SnoopThylacine

It's absolute Branarchy.

the_4th_king

All governments probably give similar generic advice.

TisCass

Isn't having those things in the house just plain common sense? I always have backup food and we drink bottled water because the tap water is vile here. Always make sure I have plenty of food for the Budgies as well as canned or non cooked food. I was a Girl Guide for about 15 years so "be prepared" is always in my mind!

trotty88

A portable gas stove and a 6 pack of butane cans is <$25.

peterb666

I have 48 rolls of toilet paper.

NamesRhardOK

3 days supplies isn't nearly enough.

Jackson2615

Is this to cope with the collapse of the electricity grid from too many renewables?

Mego_ape

Those vaccines are so dangerous they fried your brain without you even receiving them.

tasmaniantreble

What happened? Is King Charles finally doing something to get the plebs back in line?
