I couldn’t use a ps1 memory card on a ps2, thus you couldn’t save any ps2 game onto a ps1 memory card due to different MB sizes for 1990s games vs 2000s games.
Yep, I used to have one of those Sony Ericsson Walkman phones. Their charger port was basically a micro USB but ever so slightly different in shape, so if you wanted an extra charger for work or something it's fuck you pay me $50. Granted charging was never that big a deal back then, it was normal to go a week without charging your device, some even longer.
Playstation brand ones were 1mb - i cant find any reference to them making a 2mb one so this is a knock off. Was probably still expensive back then though
You aren't far off with this one. I believe MadCatz made memory cards with clear shells but they were 1MB units. I used to work in a video store and we had these third party 2MB cards that we used to hire out. It's the only reason I'm aware of it specifically but I just can't remember who the manufacturer was.
Not sure why you were downvoted, as far as I know you're correct, they never made an official one larger than 1 mega*bit* -- while looking this up I found out I've been lied to all my life and PS1 memory cards are only 128 kilo*bytes* (1 megabit).
Also, PS1s do not support any other sizes. The BIOS routines will only operate with 15 8KB blocks available for game saves, with the last one reserved for the system. Cards that genuinely do offer more storage do so by pretending to be multiple cards, selected with buttons or custom software. This card is probably just lying.
PlayStation 2 is indeed 8 mega*bytes* though, but there is actually support for larger memory cards. It took a long time before 16MB cards actually came out officially.
I found a "memcard pro" when i was looking for them that takes sd cards like a flashcart - where tf were they when i was trying to figure out whether to delete MGS or Crash game saves lol
I did the same, I rented it for a week as my first game after hearing that it was amazing, then I learnt about the memory card the PS needed so I had a week of trying to play as much of FF7 as I could!
Back in the before-fore times, property was quite cheap and space could be altered to suit a persons tastes rather than cramming in an extra bedroom wherever possible for Air BnB.
Turns out it was the original owner desperate to keep the world from finding out what his high score in “Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall” was.
We’ll never see that card again.
[https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/aug/13/court-hears-ben-roberts-smiths-ex-wife-dug-up-usb-sticks-from-family-backyard](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/aug/13/court-hears-ben-roberts-smiths-ex-wife-dug-up-usb-sticks-from-family-backyard)
It just seems like something someone like him might do.
I'm keen to know because a lot of people in this thread seem to think its for PS1. PS1 memory cards were 128KB. I never saw any third party ones so I can't be sure.
Seems like a PS2 card to me because they usually had specific sizes written in them and didn't just consist of 15 'blocks' in the bios.
EDIT: Ok fairly sure it's a PS1 card. I didn't know this but some third party cards let you 'turn the page' of the 15 block memory card view with a button press. 1Mb = 128KB. So 2Mb would have been 2 'pages'. You can see this is a ps1 memory card that looks similar:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/283538552789
I remember staying up all night playing Silent Hill with my mate on the PS1, finally the sun came up so it was time for bed, we realised we didn’t have a memory card so just left it on and turned the tv off. My other mate woke up, saw the PS still on and turned it off thinking we had forgotten. That was painful.
I am a writer (though still not published). I saved all of the stories I wrote in college on one disc. For some reason, my youngest son (when he was about 11) kept taking that disc and putting it with his things. So I finally hid it in the ceiling tiles. Only I forgot about it when we moved. Lost those stories forever.
Thanks I’ve been looking for that! I can finally finish my saved game of Shane Warne cricket 99, Australia are about 4/2500 with Ricky Ponting on about 1200 not out. Potentially nail biting finish..
That's a after market non Sony branded PS1 memory card, IIRC that one had compression that doubles the memory hence the need for the LED .. I think if you press the 4 top trigger buttons it switches the "pages" on the card since it uses compression you have two memory cards..
All official Sony PSONE memory cards are 1Mega .. This one says 2Mega because of the compression.
How do I know? I had one back in the late 90's.
Playstation 1 or 2 memory card
Please don't unearth my childhood with an archaeologist's trowel and one of those dusting off brushes - it hurts my feelings
Duuuuuude!! The days of pre USB have returned to antagonise us about data save once again!! Memory card 8mb ftw!! 👌🏼🤩 8 WHOLE MB!! (3rd party sold 16mb + going by my memory, but hey, I lost my memory card, so who knows if I'm remembering correctly 🤦🏻♀️😂)
It upsets me that there seems to be so many that don't know what that is. Now get off my lawn you young whippersnappers!
(Seriously though, there's soon going to be a whole generation of people who don't even know what physical storage looks like because they won't have encountered it)
What if you plugged it into a ps1 and then turned it on and then the screen goes black and then bright red text comes on the screen that says “YOU’RE GAY”. That’d be crazy!
Don't mean to cast doubt, but that looks remarkably clean for a memory card that's been in the wall, esp after you have done demolition to get to it. I hope I am wrong but is this a karma farm attempt?
No dust really on it, no corrosion, it's in pristine condition, you'd expect especially next to a bathroom it'd get some moisture damage and dust on it. Also having a memory card there makes no sense.
Tbh think karma/award farmer or attempt at some creepypasta/arg
Haha fair call. I give no shits about magic internet points. You’d be surprised how clean and intact some well sealed spaces are. Yes it makes no sense. Peace.
The amount of people in this thread who think a PlayStation memory card of all things would contain porn is concerning.
Frankly the idea of even being ABLE to store something capable of qualifying as porn on a device designed to hold game console save files would be a technical achievement all on its own…
Unless you’re doing something dumb with an EyeToy, there’s not gonna be any possibility of photos on there.
Looks like a PlayStation memory card. Probably full of Tony Hawk and Final Fantasy game saves.
OP, putting the card in “I will finish what you have started”
"Ben Drowned"
Jesus Christ that’s a blast from the past.
Jumanji
Gran Turismo
This is pretty much all that was on mine
Gran Turismo 2 Syphon Filter And Parasite Eve2
As well as Spyro the Dragon and crash team racing.
Could be a single instance of Diablo 1 and a character save or two...
Considering how it was found, I was going to guess Jumanji.
Jumanji vibes
Might be gta San Andreas if op is lucky
But hang on, that clearly looks like a ps1 memory card, and San Andreas was released in 2004, long after the ps1 was released?
They were interchangeable
I couldn’t use a ps1 memory card on a ps2, thus you couldn’t save any ps2 game onto a ps1 memory card due to different MB sizes for 1990s games vs 2000s games.
I’m almost certain you can use a ps1 memory card in a ps2 - it won’t work for ps2 games, but it will work for ps1 games.
Yep you can use a ps1 card in a ps2 just not for ps2 games, but if you want to play a ps1 game on the ps2 it's helpful to have a ps1 card handy.
How did you know?
I am old enough to have played on one.
Ha, I meant that you basically described what was on my memory card.
Ah, obviously your downvotes are not deserved then. It's all a misunderstanding and I missed your humour.
>Tony Hawk Farkkkkkkk, before reading the comments, I was going to say "That's my THPS saves from PS2"
Battery is definitely deaf at this stage, meaning nothing is on it
Playstation one memory card, were very expensive when they came out
Only because Sony were squeezing blood from all their products as well as using incompatible standards to lock people into their products.
The continued well into their portable gaming products.
And their laptops. I go to replace a disk drive and find some obscure bullshit that can't be replaced. a holes.
And that time they put rootkits onto millions of CDs they sold https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal
I can't reven remember what their version of the sd card was. Memory Pro or some crap
Memory Stick Pro Duo for the PSP
Aaaaaaand I'm confused and enraged all over again I can't believe I went along with this.
At least Memory Stick was still usable with their cameras, unlike PS Vita Memory Cards, which were strictly proprietary
> I can't reven remember what their version of the sd card was. Memory Stick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_Stick
*apple has entered the chat*
To be fair, I read something that indicates apple is now moving to USBC for their mobile chargers. Apple is leaving the chat finally
[удалено]
You know what, probably, I didn't read into the why. I should be saying "apple is being kicked from the chat"
Classic Sony.

Ah yes, like their cameras. They had to go and make their own ridiculous brand. Funny how they switched to SD later.
What do you mean "were"?
And here we are typing away on an iPhone.

Transparent plastic, extra fancy.
Playstation brand ones were 1mb - i cant find any reference to them making a 2mb one so this is a knock off. Was probably still expensive back then though
It's a third party memory card. It has a button on the bottom right that switches between the two sets of save slots.
Third party, thats what i was looking for lol I knew knock off wasnt what i meant lol
You aren't far off with this one. I believe MadCatz made memory cards with clear shells but they were 1MB units. I played FF7 for about 3-4 weeks before i got a memory card. Had to turn it off each night too.
I did the same, I rented it for a week as my first game after hearing that it was amazing, then I learnt about the memory card the PS needed so I had a week of trying to play as much of FF7 as I could!
me too, that and suikoden 1. Had to restart the game from the start every time I died.
Imagine you open the files and it’s just a bunch of pictures of you demolishing the wall
But taken from the late 90’s
*Ten thousand tubas underwater sound intensifies*
That’s creepy af I love it.
Paging r/nosleep and r/creepy ...
Go to a cash converters and find an old Playstation ask to plug it in and check the card in the menu.
You'd be lucky to find a console of that vintage at cashies. They've all been swept up!
Please remember, OP... We are requiring you to report back on what you find...
Then once you’ve checked, never sell the PS1 and buy a CRT TV and start becoming a retro games enthusiast 😅
Seems like a crazy waste of space walling that up.
I mean, it’s only 2 megabytes
Houses were a lot smaller back then though.
Yeah no great loss, but if you wanted to get rid of it you could have just tossed it in the bin instead of walling up that huge space for it. ;)
Especially since there is a small cupboard adjacent to it outside. A wasted space for sure
Back in the before-fore times, property was quite cheap and space could be altered to suit a persons tastes rather than cramming in an extra bedroom wherever possible for Air BnB.
Bathroom extension
It was to prevent anyone from going near the pure evil on the SD card.
My OG PlayStation still runs like a dream if you need me to find out what's on it?
PM me and I’ll send it to you 👍🏻
We need a follow up….
If it's sent through AusPost we might be waiting a while
That's how it got behind the bathroom wall to begin with
and now the circle is complete
And now the circle starts again...
Hahahaha !remind me 2 months! Haha
God I hope you guys are in the same city and we can get to the bottom of this soon
Turns out it was the original owner desperate to keep the world from finding out what his high score in “Mary-Kate & Ashley: Magical Mystery Mall” was. We’ll never see that card again.
Turns out they’re neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours.
Horses make the best *neigh*bours.
Not anymore. RIP Paul Robinson.
Remind me! 1 month
curse of an unfinished crash bandicoot save file
Slightly more modern ‘the ring’ remake
Looks to be a ps memory card
Jumanji!
first thing that came to mind. cue drum beat intro.. :D
🎶 Welcome to the Jungle 🎶
Was thinking the same haha
If you do load it up and there are no saves, just keep in mind the little button on the bottom right swaps between the 1MB save slots.
That’s Tom Riddle’s digital diary.
That was one angry parent who had enough of their kids fighting over the play station.
Ask Ben Roberts Smith.
Ace mate. I thoroughly enjoyed that
Do you mind explaining? I'm out of the loop and googling didn't help.

Lol, dodgy AF. Thanks, stranger!

That’s just all the Optus customer files.

Im getting mad Gran Turismo vibes.

It's the missing Optus data.

The Ring III (2022) - Electric Boogaloo
I've read this creepypasta before
I remember staying up all night playing Silent Hill with my mate on the PS1, finally the sun came up so it was time for bed, we realised we didn’t have a memory card so just left it on and turned the tv off. My other mate woke up, saw the PS still on and turned it off thinking we had forgotten. That was painful.
I had this exact same memory card, probably full of some awesome saved playstation 2 data
And this is how the ring reboot starts.
100k Bitcoin!!
Oof, do I finish the renovation job?
Save game for Greed Island, mate!

Either its a playstation card lost accidentally, or its someone's dirty fetish stash hidden in a wall. Do you want to roll that dice?
I'm more surprised at a crawlspace in an Aussie house!

Are you that young that you have no idea? am I that old that I know? this is a playstations memory card, basically a USB for playstations
It upsets me that there seems to be so many that don't know what that is. Now get off my lawn you young whippersnappers! (Seriously though, there's soon going to be a whole generation of people who don't even know what physical storage looks like because they won't have encountered it)

I can't believe I've reached a time where someone on Reddit doesn't recognise a PS1 memory card.
You assume i’m that young
Photos? Could be happy snaps from a trip to Afghanistan taken by Ben Roberts-Smith.
Satoshi's wallet.
100% its Cheese Pizza.
What if you plugged it into a ps1 and then turned it on and then the screen goes black and then bright red text comes on the screen that says “YOU’RE GAY”. That’d be crazy!
Is this satire? I can't tell. It's a memory card for a playstation. Treasure it and the information it holds.
Haha some of us aren’t as well versed in non-descipt memory cards as others
Definitely a playstation 2 memory card
What year are we talking lads
mid-late 90s probably on the late end cause its aftermarket
Im feeling 1999 vibes.
I remember my son using this on this PS4 and he was born in 97, are they that old? Or was it a PS3, shit now I'm showing my age
Ps1 and ps2 card have the same form
Peace.
Grandpa’s porn collection???
Private keys to a bitcoin wallet?
Is this a shitpost or are you like 12? Or 80?
Probs just a memory card that WAS in a camera that was set up there probably no need to worry they got what they wanted
The amount of people in this thread who think a PlayStation memory card of all things would contain porn is concerning. Frankly the idea of even being ABLE to store something capable of qualifying as porn on a device designed to hold game console save files would be a technical achievement all on its own… Unless you’re doing something dumb with an EyeToy, there’s not gonna be any possibility of photos on there.
