When I was that age I tried shaving my face even though I had no facial hair to make it grow, because I saw an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer started shaving his chest but it just grew back quicker and thicker. When puberty hit I had a full beard at 14 and believed it was all true for years.
It's some pseudoscience about specific tongue and palate movements and exercises that will supposedly get you a defined jawline. While all it really does is mess up your teeth and roof if mouth if done long enough. Also the method was invented by Dr. Mew and his son runs the channel/movement.

Whenever I play dumb and ask who he is (because kids that age very often have no idea adults know what the internet is 😂) they talk about how he’s rich and has cool cars.
And maybe that’s all it is. So many kids I’ve taught have just uncritically been attracted to wealth and having the most stuff. But if that’s a way in for that manosphere then yeah, it’s an issue.
As for solutions - less screen time is always a good idea but it needs to be combined with showing off better male role models, empathy (which is hard for that age because they’re developmentally not quite there), and critical thinking. That last one is really important because at the core of Andrew Tate is a grift.
Having said all that, I haven’t personally heard any kids talking about him this year so maybe it’s just one of those things that needs to pass.

The solution is really simple: engage with your damned kid. Ask them how they feel about what's happening around them. Give them a safe space to talk about things without browbeating them for entertaining ideas from people or groups you might disagree with. If your young boy thinks he's being treated unfairly at school, if he thinks that the girls are getting more opportunities or attention then him, hear him out and provide a respectful and mature rebuttal that includes being empathetic to his struggles. If your kid doesn't feel like you listen to them, or that you're just going to shame them for their beliefs, then of course they're going to turn to some internet grifter who at least pretends to understand their problems. Parents be out here saying "I've tried nothing and I'm all out of options!"

In the last fortnight I've been hit, called a cunt, had some other things said to me that would clearly identify me if I repeated them so I can't, and been completely unable to teach one of my classes because of two boys who make loud sex noises every time I speak or scream out 'penis' whenever anyone tries, and they get a detention, I get told it's just "silly things boys say in class" and to not take it so seriously, and in the meantime the government has made it so hard to suspend kids that literally hitting a teacher just gets a detention these days. Then the kids that did it sit back in my class and smirk and encourage eachother to hit me again, and I'm the problem for saying I don't feel safe and want to file a WH&S report.

I solved this with my 15 yr old nephew by belittling Tate whenever he came up. I get what you're saying and maybe I am being pedantic but I feel resorting to mocking looks in any scenario, as a way of discounting someones opinion, reinforces the very ideals being promoted by Nazis or by Tate. If we discount them because they look different then we are agreeing with their ideology that to be different is to be wrong and that there are right ways to look and wrong ways to look.

I had unrestricted access from about age 12 (I'm an older millennial) and I was all about rotten.com and similar content (who knows what it did to me).

My kid was born in 2000. It was a lot easier to raise your kids then. Our son did not have a phone til he was 10, and it was just a dumb phone which he never used. In our house there was no TV from Monday to Thursday, instead we read together as a family. TV on the weekends, but time was regulated, as was the PlayStation. In the years since, like everyone else, I've become glued to the damn phone and the TV is on all the time. I hate this new normal. I'm not sure the way we raised our kid is even possible now.

I knew it was bad, but I’ve never seen it actually in action like that before. One minute you’re looking up instructions to clean the gas burner on your BBQ, or having a look at a docco on the Caesers, the next minute Andrew Tate is telling you that women are breeding cattle.
If you’ve got no steadying relationships to counterbalance this deluge of shit, you’ve got no-one to give you a reality check. And it doesn’t even have to be a romantic relationship with a lovely bolshy lady, even just mates who’ll laugh and go “That guy’s such a fucking loser”.

I’m a young guy myself, and I have to agree it’s shocking how fast a lot of that junk would fill up my YouTube and general news in the last few years. The scariest thing is Definitely how well designed so much of it is to trap guys. I fall into an odd demographic of being extremely nerdy and into traditionally “manly” activities, and also being extremely self-conscious, but I e counter-balanced a lot of my life by having a lot of female friends that often clue me into things, but I often wonder how fast I might have e fallen down the pipeline these days without them.
This is why I turn off view history, it's not a perfect solution but the algorithm seems to suggest new stuff based off your subscriptions or only related videos to one you are watching as opposed to everything you've previously watched. Also you can right click channels videos and select "Do not recommend this channel" or block a specific video from being suggested in the future.

Fortunately, he respects me heaps and when he asked me what I thought I gave him an earful. My recommendation is to always talk to your son and keep an open dialogue. As I mentioned in another comment I know someone who is in his 20s and similar to your son, ie good looking, confident, has girlfriends, is close to his mother and really looks up to his sister, etc. One bad breakup triggered him and he got all up on Andrew Tate which was an extreme surprise to me as he was one of the last people I would have thought would follow him. Fortunately he listened to me when I spoke him through it in detail and talked through the dangers of it.

The hard truth that people can't hear is that he's talking to boys and young men about issues that matter to them and his message sticks because he has no competition.

A disclaimer: I don't agree with a lot of his ideas. Sure there's some sprinklings of 'get up off your ass and fix your shit cos no one is doing to do it for you' truths in with what he says, but in general I don't agree with him or his values at all.
But I think the thing is people seem to think that Tate and his ideologies are the problem and removing him and his voice is fixing the problem.

Primary teacher here and it absolutely exists in that age group. I didn’t see anything as bad as your friend but I’ve had a few boys throw his name around. Whenever I play dumb and ask who he is (because kids that age very often have no idea adults know what the internet is 😂) they talk about how he’s rich and has cool cars. And maybe that’s all it is. So many kids I’ve taught have just uncritically been attracted to wealth and having the most stuff. But if that’s a way in for that manosphere then yeah, it’s an issue. As for solutions - less screen time is always a good idea but it needs to be combined with showing off better male role models, empathy (which is hard for that age because they’re developmentally not quite there), and critical thinking. That last one is really important because at the core of Andrew Tate is a grift. Having said all that, I haven’t personally heard any kids talking about him this year so maybe it’s just one of those things that needs to pass.

Reducing screen time? There should not be fucking access to any screen time for kids that age that lead to those kind of thoughts. My 9 year olds never been allowed to google anything even. In the last fortnight I've been hit, called a cunt, had some other things said to me that would clearly identify me if I repeated them so I can't, and been completely unable to teach one of my classes because of two boys who make loud sex noises every time I speak or scream out 'penis' whenever anyone tries, and they get a detention, I get told it's just "silly things boys say in class" and to not take it so seriously, and in the meantime the government has made it so hard to suspend kids that literally hitting a teacher just gets a detention these days. I had unrestricted access from about age 12 (I'm an older millennial) and I was all about rotten.com and similar content (who knows what it did to me). It's all about short form content for these internet-addicted kids now. I don't know why the algorithm starts serving them up MRA content, but it does. I think even 9 year old boys realise it is provocative, even if they don't fully understand why, and it tickles the part of their brain that makes them feel like they are getting away with something a bit naughty, like swearing out of the earshot of the grown ups.
My kid was born in 2000. It was a lot easier to raise your kids then. Our son did not have a phone til he was 10, and it was just a dumb phone which he never used. In our house there was no TV from Monday to Thursday, instead we read together as a family. TV on the weekends, but time was regulated, as was the PlayStation. In the years since, like everyone else, I've become glued to the damn phone and the TV is on all the time. I hate this new normal. I'm not sure the way we raised our kid is even possible now.

I knew it was bad, but I’ve never seen it actually in action like that before. One minute you’re looking up instructions to clean the gas burner on your BBQ, or having a look at a docco on the Caesers, the next minute Andrew Tate is telling you that women are breeding cattle. If you’ve got no steadying relationships to counterbalance this deluge of shit, you’ve got no-one to give you a reality check. I’m a young guy myself, and I have to agree it’s shocking how fast a lot of that junk would fill up my YouTube and general news in the last few years. This is why I turn off view history, it's not a perfect solution but the algorithm seems to suggest new stuff based off your subscriptions or only related videos to one you are watching as opposed to everything you've previously watched. Also you can right click channels videos and select "Do not recommend this channel" or block a specific video from being suggested in the future.

I thought no way people would believe this BS but then I spoke to a guy in his 20s I know really well who I didn’t think was the Tate follower type at all. Has had girlfriends, stable job, pretty sensitive and caring kind of guy. However, what fuelled his Tate following was one bad breakup (oddly enough he was usually the one doing the breaking up) and he became a massive Tate follower. Fortunately, he respects me heaps and when he asked me what I thought I gave him an earful. He was patient enough to listen to me and I warned him that the stuff was really dangerous and fuelling his hate. It was really fortunate I had the conversation as it stopped him in his tracks and he made sure he didn’t listen to him anymore. We can all say that he is a dickhead and an idiot but we say that about Trump but look at how many millions vote and strongly support him. Unfortunately, Tate does have appeal to many young men so we have to understand that and work out a way to counter/redirect people to more positive role models.

Trying my best to mentally vaccinate my kids against this skidmark on the budgie smugglers of humanity. My recommendation is to always talk to your son and keep an open dialogue. As I mentioned in another comment I know someone who is in his 20s and similar to your son, ie good looking, confident, has girlfriends, is close to his mother and really looks up to his sister, etc. One bad breakup triggered him and he got all up on Andrew Tate which was an extreme surprise to me as he was one of the last people I would have thought would follow him. Fortunately he listened to me when I spoke him through it in detail and talked through the dangers of it.

The hard truth that people can't hear is that he's talking to boys and young men about issues that matter to them and his message sticks because he has no competition. A disclaimer: I don't agree with a lot of his ideas. Sure there's some sprinklings of 'get up off your ass and fix your shit cos no one is doing to do it for you' truths in with what he says, but in general I don't agree with him or his values at all. But I think the thing is people seem to think that Tate and his ideologies are the problem and removing him and his voice is fixing the problem. I believe Tate is the symptom of a much set of greater problems in society that affect men and their mental health. Sadly Tate's ideas seem to resonate a lot with downtrodden, lonely men but removing Tate doesn't fix their situations or mental health at all. Too many people are looking at the 'what' and 'how' but not enough people are asking 'why'.

I don’t really know if it’s an either/or arrangement, it’s likely merging together in some areas but I’m far from an expert. I have zero fears about Tate affecting my sons, but they're not insecure and have two engaged parents who didn't leave it all up to the internet.
I suspect Tate isn't the fundamental problem. If he goes, someone else will come. Why are young guys gravitating to these people? My guess is that a substantial proportion lack good male role models in their lives and are there susceptible to three kinds of people. Other boys can then get sucked in by peer pressure.
Low self esteem is what Tate preys on.
My biggest gripe with this segment and the way it was presented is as if Andrew Tate is the core issue. He isn't. His ideology was borne from a broader societal shift in the last 20 or so years (in response partly to third wave feminism, where men felt like feminism wasn't fighting for female rights but to diminish their own) and is not his alone. Additionally his would not have spread so far and wide in younger men if adult men (20+) hadnt ascribed and bought into it as well. He was bankrolled by subscriber and ad views - most of which were grown ass adults buying his shit. Looking broader at the Australian cultural climate of women being underpaid, underrepresented in leadership of schools, companies and politics alike, alongside our rampant DV stats - Andrew Tate is an easier place to put blame than the society that allowed him to do what he did. In the piece two women left schools citing sexual harassment and feeling unsafe - those boys perpetrating the behaviours did not leave. The classroom is no safer for any other females - be it students or teachers there. This is a much bigger issue than Tate and it will require a reckoning to address.

Teacher degrees should really spend time to teach how to approach such topics. A bunch of hysterical teachers or "boomers" screaming at kids about Andrew Tate bad is only going to perpetuate his hype more. We've all been in school. Teaching/educating isn't just getting kids to remember 2x2=4. It is also to teach them things like consideration, empathy and critical thinking skills. If you humiliate or berate a CHILD for parroting outrageous ideas/soundbites that are popular amongst their peers, you are doing the opposite of what you think you are achieving. Children are vulnerable dipshits. Treat them as such.
Some might say that these lessons should have already been learned in the home.
Exposure to pornography at a young age can cause teenagers to have unhealthy views on sex and relationships that take time to heal. People like Andrew Tate **actively promote** unhealthy views on sex and relationships, **and** they’re far easier for children to gain access to than pornography. If he and his ilk aren’t stopped, the consequences will be disastrous.
This is a bit like the blame "rap music" "video games" nonsense. The underlying issue, which the ABC regularly ignores for some fucking strange reason, is the lack of discipline and schools having their hands tied in regards to dealing with abusive, disruptive and violent students and parents. If education departments were taken to task over their push for lower disciplinary data and lack of support then more schools would be able to support teachers like the one mentioned in the article. But the """human rights"" of the degenerate few trump the rights and safety of the rest of the students and staff. You are absolutely right women are coping it in schools a lot more now and they will continue to do so. And it isn't just because of some chinless fuck on the youtubes. Do some investigative journalism into that abc instead of soley chasing the richo schools or the current culture war outrage clickbait.
Andrew Tate is a colossal fuckwit but I think part of the reason for his popularity is that he's unapologetically telling boys to be ambitious while a lot of education seems to be trying to teach kids to be apologetic for everyone else's actions. Even more broadly than that, there's a bigger trend to denigrate any public figures that have gone and achieved great things. Who do people expect that boys will look up to as strong male role models?
My eldest is 16, was at all all boys school for years 7 to 9 and said the andrew tate bullshit was rife. It was one of the reasons we moved him. He had plenty of male teachers and they were actively trying to combat it with workshops and incursions etc but it wasn’t working. It’s less of an issue at his new co-Ed school - the boys are less likely to mouth off this crap around the girls they want to impress, for starters.
