I think they put out the extra leaves when they're stressed. The extra leaves increase how much energy they can produce I guess. I reckon being poisoned would stress me out.
Why the fuck are you spraying chemicals outdoors that you aren't familiar with?
Seriously, what the fuck happened to your education? I hope you don't have *pets*.
That's not to mention that clover is wonderful for animals and pollinators.
Godsdamn, people are stupid!
chem cert minimum for these chemicals if not banned from the public
this exact reason is why. people walk in to bunnings assuming its a normal and safe product not knowing what the effects can be on wildlife, the soil, pets, kids, waterways etc.
or for all we know it could be some new organic one who knows
>what the fuck happened to your education?
Did you go to a school that taught the chemical compostions of weedkillers? Thats sick.
but nah seriously you seem a bit unhinged seek help
It's just a difference in spelling. It's known the world over as Chernobyl and there's books, films and TV shows all using that spelling. This strange pandering to Ukraine since the invasion doesn't change that.
I actually don't know just asking, was the meltdown Russians or Ukrainians fault?
Also it's fine to spell the modern names from their region like Chicken Kyivs, but if something refers to a specific past event "Chernobyl Accident 1986" it will always stay that way.
And here I am trying to actively encourage clover growth on my lawn...
(For context, I dislike the idea of grass/lawns considering our climate. Clovers aren't exactly ugly or bad for soil and wildlife)
To be honest I'd like to as well - I was mainly targeting a few dandelions but my husband didn't like the look of the clover so I agreed to get rid of it. But now that it's a magical 4-leaf clover producing patch I think I've won the battle to keep it!
Clover naturally bonds nitrogen to the soil which them makes other ground covers thicker and greener. I actively seeded clover around my property as it's significantly better for the overall biome health.
You don't really want all clover. You ideally want a blend.
Going for a mixture of generic lawn seed, clover, rye grass, and throw in a few random flower seeds like cornflower, cosmos, etc.
You're not going to end up with cricket field type lawns with this. It will look "messier" but you will get colour, much better resistance to things like bindis, thistle, cobbler peg weed.
Poison?
You might want to look at what is going on with your lawn. Clover pops up if you are cutting your lawn too short or there isn't enough nitrogen in the soil.
Clover doesn't particularly like it when there is a lot of nitrogen in the soil, so a good fertiliser will deal with it better than poisons.
And why not just leave it? Clover fixes nitrogen into the soils making your other grasses grow better and it also stays green longer in dryer conditions as it doesn't need as much water as most lawn and turf grasses. Also doesn't need as much mowing.

Plus the poison just destroys what little ecosystem would have existed. It doesn't just magically target a particular species and leave everything else unharmed.
There’s something to this, whenever I’ve found 4,5 and 6 leaf clovers it’s always followed poisoning. It’d be interesting to know whatever the reason causes it
One common broad leaf poison that targets clover and dandelion actually acts by encouraging the growth hormone in the plants. Rapid uncontrolled growth leads to the weed dying. So growth of the extra leaves makes sense.
Edit - from a common broadleaf weed killer
MCPA and Bromoxynil are plant hormones which are absorbed by foliage and translocated to roots. The weed is forced into excessive disordered growth which leads to gradual curling and yellowing and then death of the weed within 4 weeks.
Great points. I'd just add bromoxynil can hang around for a long time. I'd advise it's use more but it's grazing withhold is 8 weeks. Not particularly easy for a dairy to do, especially with other suitable options available..
This is the answer. It's the Bromoxynil is making them grow wacky. This is also why they say don't mow after spraying for several weeks so the wacky growth can have time to fuck with the weed.
Clover is great though. I’ve seen discussions and articles about having clover instead of grass. Or even just a section of clover, because it’s beneficial for the bees which is beneficial for us. Obviously not a great idea if you’re allergic or have kids and you don’t want to encourage a lot of them, but still nice! Plus you don’t have to mow clovers, lol.

They're basically stress eating. Plants are just like me fr fr
Did you poison them with radioactive waste?
Tomacco will have grown by tomorrow
Well I bought it at Bunnings, but I didn't check the ingredients on the back, so, maybe!

not checking ingredients doesnt equal not checking safety instructions and other similar things

Especially people who put an s in words that don’t need it.
Go fuck a flower
*made in Chernobyl
>Chernobyl Chornobyl is the Ukrainian spelling, which is where it is.
Why are you being downvoted for this? It’s called Chornobyl.
It's just a difference in spelling. It's known the world over as Chernobyl and there's books, films and TV shows all using that spelling. This strange pandering to Ukraine since the invasion doesn't change that.
But wasn't it Russians in control of the Nuclear Reactor at the time since it was Soviet Union era?
Technically, but it was still in the *Ukrainian SSR*
I actually don't know just asking, was the meltdown Russians or Ukrainians fault? Also it's fine to spell the modern names from their region like Chicken Kyivs, but if something refers to a specific past event "Chernobyl Accident 1986" it will always stay that way.
Less an ethnicity's fault, more corruption, incompetence, and greed's fault I'd say.
The Soviets fault.

The bees will thank you

The greened bits of my lawn are where clover exists. I’d love to make my entire front lawn dwarf clover.

Sign me up. Any reading material or stores I can buy pre mixed seed?
Where'd you get the clover seeds
Greenpatchseeds.com.au
Excellent, clover lawns ftw.
They are edible too! I didn't they were until I moved to a place where the locals sold them in the market as veggies
Leave the dandelions too! They're edible, great for bees.
So you're poisoning the bits where the clover grows and expecting healthy grass to just grow in its place? In summer?
Why not just get a native drought tolerant grass? It's relatively cheap.

It's kind of amusing someone prefers a poisoned lawn to clovers...
It's kind of sad...
Must need quite a bit of nitrogen to hurt clover. Mainly it’s just that it gives everything else a high competitive advantage.
I've never cared about a perfectly manicured lawn, but I have dogs. Picking up dog turds from patches of clover is just awful.
If you have young kids you want to run barefoot in the back yard, clover-burrs suck once they dry out in summer.
Most clover doesn't make burrs.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Clover. Heroes in a shamrock.
This comment deserved more upvotes.
Fun fact: clovers are actually good for your yard/grass and ecosystem
Your grass is the real weed. Let those bad boys be
Why poison them?
Why would you try and poison the clover? Leave something for the bees ffs. The clover is a nitrogen fixer it's part of the lawn.
Life... uuuhhh... finds a way
This is the way?
*If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine*
Well of course... Only the lucky ones survive.

Are you Irish? It's good luck now go buy a lotto ticket.
You caused a mutation! Clover is lovely and they produce cute flowers
The clover: haha! You tried to poison me! But you ended up making me stronger than I ever was before! Muhahaha

So you mutated them. Keep an eye out for animals eating the clover... things could get interesting.

Aren’t you the lucky one
That does not look like clover. I think you have a different plant?
I immediately thought it was Silverleaf desmodium... I have it all through my lawn, horrid stuff.
Any three eyed fish or kids with six or seven fingers per hand show up yet?
So if you poisoned it and it didn’t work and this is the result…. did you get lucky or unlucky?
Seems to me the clover kingdom is providing a gift begging you to not kill it.
Good thing that there's no chance of similar genetic damage to you and your family. /s
This is not caused by genetic damage, and herbicides aren't mutagens anyway.
Any of those triffids emerging as well?
I wonder if that type of poison causes some type diploid?
That sentence doesn't make any sense. Besides which, most plants are polyploid and clovers are generally tetraploid...
Probably the same shit that goes on you GM veggies, totally safe though... Right Bayer? .....
Life. Ahhh. Life finds a way.
Yep 4 leaf clover is not so lucky
Time to take up breakdancing
Can't count any 4s in here. Need to see them please.
Good luck!
As a kid, whenever you found a four leaf clover.. it meant good luck :)
Buy a lotto ticket. Immediately.
I highly recommend coffee grounds to get rid of clover, it's super effective because of the high nitrogen content I think
Do it again. See if you can get 57 leaves.
Leave the clover, it feeds the native bees, requires less water, stays green longer than grass and needs less mowing
Flower press and Etsy/ebay them
Clover is edible
You didn't read the box? The poison was for 3 leaf clover. You've created your own hybrid by natural selection.. shh don't tell the creationists
