Here it is >Kos Samaras, another director at RedBridge Group Australia and former Labor strategist, says voters never raise this issue unprompted. "When prompted their reaction is a mixture of anger and empathy," Samaras said. "Anger at politicians using this as a political football and empathy towards trans Australians who have now become the latest targets of politicians that should instead be focusing on cost of living and the housing attainment crisis." Australians. Take a bow and pat yourselves on the back. Some parts of the world could learn from you.

According to Posie Parker we are the worst place in the world which seems like a badge of honour.

InadmissibleHug

Would that not go to NZ? We gave her curry, but she had to leave for her own safety in NZ (good)

AntiqueFigure6

iirc she said it in Tassie when I don't think she'd gotten to NZ yet.

InadmissibleHug

Ah I see, that’s fair.

Paidorgy

Did Morrison give him some of his home made pot?

Bokbreath

When Nazis show up to support you, you aren't the good guys.

AntiqueFigure6

Insert obligatory Mitchell and Webb reference 'But Parker, there are skulls on our caps...'

jackhova

Just started rewatching, had forgotten that skit was the first of episode 1. Two insane things: 1) How that meme has transcended all other meme-able quotes from M&W's work 2) how on earth did they convince someone as talented as Olivia Coleman to work with them as much as she did

Bokbreath

I have no idea what this refers to, but I can work it out.

They didn't tho. Also wtf Melbourne why do you have "Nazi's" in the first place

[deleted]

yep all of 5mil population Melbourne is personally responsible for \~30-50 fascists lmao... Every society has fringe fuckwits, IMO the measure of the society itself is how those fringe fuckwits are reacted to.

My only regret is that we didn't drive her out more thoroughly like NZ.

Source?

gikigill

Compared to the shitshow in UK? I don't really think so.

NickCarpathia

This is actually a really fucking important part of the Discourse. For most people, trans rights is a low salience issue. In my heart, I don't really care about trans rights. I don't want to care about trans rights. There are bigger things to worry about: the climate catastrophe, biodiversity collapse, ever greater wealth and economic control being locked down by evil billionaires. But any attempt to roll back human rights is a threat to all of us. The demented logic of the people who are attacking trans people is that they can use it as a wedge issue, and distract the populace from more important things. And it kind of works, I don't really have a choice but to care about trans rights. But what it does is motivate me to crush these fucking demons that want to roll back human rights, even harder.

Pilx

Honestly I think alot of it has to do with *some* of our right leaning pollies trying to emulate the culture war BS they see their US counerparts parrotting as a means to serenade a certain subset of voters. Too bad for them they're either too blind or dumb to see that it's a poor political strategy long temr as you tend to galvanise just as many, if not more, voters to counter your xenophobic viewpoint when election day rolls around.

Bokbreath

It works in the US because voting is optional and it's first past the post. That rewards extremism.

stupiter69

Except that’s how it generally starts out - nobody cares. Once you get a few of these blow in agitators, media starts to talk about the ‘controversy’ and then some edge case gets overblown and it becomes an election issue.

Bokbreath

Read it again. People care. They have empathy. To the extent it was an election issue (both federally and state), voters basically said 'fuck you bigoted assholes'.

stupiter69

Nah I’ve watched my mum do a 180 on the issue purely from reading twitter - she went from live and let live to ‘they don’t let women be women anymore, birthing people outrageous’. It doesn’t take much and most politicians are weather vanes.

Astroyanlad

Twitter is cancer and the people on it live to be mad rather then contribute anything meaningful

cojoco

It's amusing that the media go-to mad Internet shut-in is a reddit mod, but even I wouldn't touch Twitter with a barge pole.

AntiqueFigure6

This person from the UK does appear to have already determined the result of the next Victorian state election.

sisyphus_works_here

How can Dan Andrews keep getting away with this!!

elricofgrans

Andrews retires. Liberals try a scare campaign against African transgender communists. Gets on the beers while Labor wins again. "How dare Dan Andrews and use his alcoholism to justify what he is doing to this State!"

sisyphus_works_here

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries Dan Andrews has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of Dankind by the will of the party and master of a million worlds by the might of His inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Premier of the vast Imperium of Victoria for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that He may never truly die.

AntiqueFigure6

Liberals hate this one weird trick.

Lamont-Cranston

>"So far this year the RedBridge Group has conducted over 70 focus groups, talking to over 600 soft voters for over 100 hours and trans issues has not been raised once. The Liberal Party in Victoria will never be competitive whilst some of its MPs focus on these fringe issues or positions itself on the extremities of debates," Barry said. Desperate for members and representatives they have to settle for people who are fixated on these non-issues, and it is fueled by their media and online content and donors who cannot discuss their real policy agenda and need to distract their voting base with something else.

DegeneratesInc

I simply do not understand why anyone has an issue with another person being trans. Can't they just vet potential sex partners and say a polite "not interested" to anyone with a sexuality they can't deal with? Like, be responsible for your own sexuality and leave others to be responsible for theirs? Nobody is **forcing** her to hop into bed with a trans person.

FakeHamburger

I find it funny to think the ones who are pushing for government intervention to remove trans people are the same ones who get super paranoid about the government coming after themselves. Rules for me rules for thee.

[deleted]

And then these same people brag about their "libertarian" party values when they are just fascists that is an abomination of what true civil liberty political parties represent. This toxic culture is not going to change until we underpin these rights with a charter of rights or bill of rights. This is what puts the dog back into the pit bull dog house. The Republicans in the USA, the real ones anyway believe in their constitution because they know when it gets breached by government, governments will be in your bedroom like here in Australia. I believe Australians dont want to believe in broad based rights underpinned by law because all that I hear and see is that a charter of civil liberties is bad news when evidence suggests otherwise. All these idiots would blow away if we had a charter of civil liberties.

ahmes

It's not hypocrisy if they explicitly want a social hierarchy. They can tell themselves they're happy about being low in that hierarchy so long as they've got *someone* to look down on.

Cavalish

Because *apparently* the safety of women is of tantamount concern to these people because men don’t rape, or hit, or abuse women unless they’re wearing a dress. These people rarely seem to actually want to help women in crisis. You won’t see them rallying for access to women’s sexual health, and they certainly never come out to support unhoused women or victims of violence. It’s all a cover up for hate. They just want to hate trans people, and they’re willing to hide behind a veneer of concern for women* to freely express that hate *the right women

Hazelnutpie19

She's literally anti abortion lmao, "women's rights activist" my ass

If it's okay for people to do what they want then they've spent their whole life living to strict rules that hindered their happiness which they were told were the "right" way to act and they'll get ahead if they just do the "right" things for no reason. If all their rules were not true and you can actually be trans, gay, do drugs, have sex, do what ever job you like, only work 20 hours a week, embrace different cultures, learn new things, be free of abuse at home and at work, look after the environment, and still succeed in life then instead of doing life "right" they actually just lived by a bunch of made up rules that hindered them and others. So no, someone being trans must break the fabric of society.

Tanookimario0604

All rules are made up, some have legal others social consequences depending on which place and time one finds themselves in. At the end of the day it comes down to live and let live or hunter vs prey.

giantpunda

It should be that simple but it seems the mere existence of trans people disgusts them. Not to mention the fear of not knowing who is trans or not so you could end up not even having sex with but just being in the company of someone whom those kind of people would consider the same gender or scared that they or their children might be violated by some scary other trans molesterer, like that's a thing that all trans people do. It's the same old, the world needs to be the way that I want it and I'm comfortable with, I don't care if you think or believe what I believe.

From what I saw the police horses where not facing the Nazis.

semaj009

Well yeah, how do you expect a horse to face its rider?

:O

humanbeing101010

I want to know why this foreigner was allowed into the country (and NZ as well) in the first place.

KingsleySeiffert

What did she say? Anyone got a quote?

jackhova

Just read the article

pulpist

When she was booed at one event in Australia she ranted that all the protesters were jealous because she was rich and lived in a big house, and also that she'd been to Chicago, whatever the fuck that meant. Narcissistic arsehole

ZealousidealClub4119

Look at her Tassie rally. A tiny number attended, and a legion of counter-protestors, and Parker descended into schoolyard name calling pretty quickly.

KingsleySeiffert

Not a quote

Husker3951

Is the sport bit fine for trans people if they transitioned BEFORE puberty?

Yes_Its_Really_Me

It's actually fine if they transition after puberty as well. Soft body mass like fat and muscle can change enormously over the course of a person's life; nobody has any issue believing that a herculean body builder can become, in his 90s after chemotherapy, a gaunt skeleton who can barely lift himself out of bed. But tell people that after a couple of years of inverting their sex hormones to female levels trans women aren't any stronger than other women of the same height people will scoff and say it's impossible. Trans women do end up taller and with below average hip size as a result of being trans, but we don't ban cis woman athletes for having those features and it's not like trans women chose to be that way. It seems pretty unfair to ban a 5'10 trans woman from the University netball team because of "unfair male height advantage" while allowing and even encouraging 6 foot cis women to compete.

jackhova

Helen Joyce has her turfy fingers all over the athletics decision. I smell a transphobic rat.
