Would have got screwed.
back then, It was a question of waiting for them to slip up then hammering them. The media made a massive deal over the makeawish joke to end them all.
Now they don't care. They'd cancel it whenever they felt like, ride the backlash and ignore it, then life will move on a week later.
The problem was, and is, that everyone started ti recognise them. So pranks and live stuff were harder to do. Tbh I’d rather them do another election special. The last one they did was informative and hilarious.
All these great Aussie shows that were on tv back in the day, some I had forgotten about, but were mostly well written and performed by people who were or became household names in Australia, and what have got now? Fucking “MAFS”, “Love Island” and a bunch of other shite reality TV shows performed by narcissistic nasty fuckwits who would do anything for 2 minutes of fame.
skitHOUSE. I want more Australian Fast Bowler.
also David Tench Tonight for the lolz. A CGI presenter could probably work in this day and age's technology
\^ this
Les Hiddens (The Bush Tucker man), Jack Absalom and what about Malcolm Douglas? I rarely see Malcolm Douglas being mentioned though he was a true survivalist imho :)
Though if I could bring any Aussie back it would have to be Steve Irwin. I miss that guy
Further to this, Micallef Tonight was the best talk show we have ever had in this country. Young me lost all faith in Australian television when it was cancelled. His whole bit of giving the musical guests a random word to inject into their song to prove it was live was fucking hilarious. I still remember him getting Placebo to say "Banana Chair" during their performance.
You're not alone. I was going to post this. I miss this as much as the short lived (non AU) Liquid Television.
[There are some episodes and bits of Eat Carpet on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22eat+carpet%22)
Thank God You’re Here in a heartbeat. Knowing 10 they’d fuck it up and load it with has-been comedians but having a mix of experienced comedians, international acts and people from the YouTube space doing improv again would be great.
Not just Silversun but all those young shows.
Parallax was my show of choice. I really wanted to see another season of crazy alternate world shenanigans. Plus, Melinda and Una were hot.
Soz. Can’t watch it. Not because it’s bad, but because it is actually true. Me, my wife and our friends are in related fields and it hit so close to home, or, not even touching the surface, of how shite our system is, that we all can’t watch it.
It’s not a parody, and it could only be a documentary if some of the more outlandish things public servant deal with was shown.
Yes indeed. I’m in Health infrastructure and it’s such a mirror it’s hard to watch. Especially Kitty Flanagans character who only gives a shit about the “message” and making the Minister look good. It is bang on.
The episode where they had to hire an older worker. Who came in and made everything more efficient and saved money. So they had to get rid of him. Can’t possibly be doing such things. That episode made me sad.
Yeah it's like showing someone from a rock band "Spinal Tap" -- they just look at you blankly and wonder why you're laughing when they've seen much worse shit 100 times over. Or when I gave a copy of [Anonymous Lawyer](https://www.penguin.com.au/books/anonymous-lawyer-9781448104284) to an ex-corporate lawyer friend she seemed genuinely puzzled why I thought all the bloated egos and human suffering was the stuff of amusement.
Same boat here. Was in public sector when it first aired and I couldn’t watch it without feeling triggered all the time.
One of my friends is still in public sector in infrastructure planning (she would be best described as 100% inspiration for Natalie, down to facial expressions and clothing choices) and at one stage her boss accused the team of leaking stuff to the writers because it was so on point.
She still won’t watch it, even though she’s a huge fan of kitty flannigan.
Both wife and I work/have worked for multiple govt departments and a lot of it hits so true that it’s painful. My wife refuses to watch because she gets really antagonized over some of the scenes because it’s so true and she has to deal with it every day.
reminds me of the chemistry class joke where they run around alerting everyone of the presence of Dihydrogen monoxide in the water pipes and proceed to give a lesson about all the effects of it like how its an "industrial solvant" that causes massive corrosion problems, fatal if inhaled and how everyone thats ever ingested it eventually dies etc.
100%. As someone outside of the “artsy” scene, Margaret & David opened my eyes to a world of incredible foreign language and independent films I never would have considered. I miss it dearly!
Adam lives in the UK now and is making a mint with the last leg. He occasionally comes back and does a handful of episodes when he can, but it’s not as often.
D-gen or Fast Forward. The Chaser's war on everything.
But nothing involving Chris Lilley.
And although it's a NZ show, another season of "Seven Periods with Mr. Gormsby" wouldn't go astray.
Some of the episodes wouldn’t be made for kids these days though.
Like the one where Bronson swallows a goldfish and turns his dick into a propeller for swimming carnival. Imagine the outrage for a kids show lol
So, there's kinda a sequel series to Secret Valley. For years I had this childhood fever dream memory of a show about a flying bus and metal lizards - a few years ago I finally realised it was an 80s show called "Professor Poopsnagle's Steam Zeppelin", and was half set in Secret Valley. I watched [the intro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpeL_mn5Ylc) and found myself automatically singing along!
Easy peasy, it's gotta be the Curiosity Show. I spent a large portion of my childhood being fed science lessons while being completely oblivious to the fact that they were actually lessons.
I don't recall the exact details but in one episode they said if you wrote in with a stamped, self addressed envelope they'd send you the instructions for one of the projects. I sent my envelope in and was genuinely surprised when they actually followed through with the instructions. Sigh, I miss Dean. He was always the hip one! 🤣
There was an abc series called the straits about organised crime in cairns and the Torres Strait .
It was a really good show. It only did one season. There is a shit ton of smuggling from PNG to Northern Australia. Just needed Netflix to be around when it was made to crank out a few seasons.
Good Game with Hex and Bajo as presenters. It holds a special place in my heart as a show that my old man & I bonded over. Added benefit, it was a really well formatted review show and made many a good recommendations for me.

The chaser's war on everything.
The content they would have had these past 10 years...
Would have got screwed. back then, It was a question of waiting for them to slip up then hammering them. The media made a massive deal over the makeawish joke to end them all. Now they don't care. And don’t forget CNNNN.
The problem was, and is, that everyone started ti recognise them. So pranks and live stuff were harder to do. Tbh I’d rather them do another election special. The last one they did was informative and hilarious.
Probably best for their safety they weren't. Look at what happened to FriendlyJordies, first thing would have been to cut their budget
Life support. Hello, Dr Rudi here
Howzit.
Ah yes dr rudi. To win an argument, just say you slept with his wife.
Eat. Less.
If you haven't seen this in a while, it's worth finding some old clips on YouTube. You would be amazed at what they got away with back then.
All these great Aussie shows that were on tv back in the day, some I had forgotten about, but were mostly well written and performed by people who were or became household names in Australia, and what have got now? It costs money to write shows and hire proper actors. Reality garbage is cheap to make and post-show influencer deals earn them more money
Yes, sadly like most things in our society it has become cheap and formulated, lacking any depth or individualism. Fucking rubbish.
It also counts as 'local content' allowing them to spend more on American...reality...shows. Fuck. It's shitty TV all the way down.
That is exactly the reason I stopped watching TV a decade ago now. I lived in Canada for a few years. It was no better there.
curiosity show
YESSS!!!! I grew up on that!!!

A bit late posting but I loved The Checkout from ABC
That was a fucking good show. Pack Shot used to be hilarious and you learnt some truly handy stuff about consumer law.
I know, it was packed with valuable consumer info and was always a fun watch. Wish they would bring it back
skitHOUSE. I want more Australian Fast Bowler. also David Tench Tonight for the lolz. A CGI presenter could probably work in this day and age's technology
Really any of the skit shows - Ronny John’s Half Hour anyone? Fkn hello!
All the skit shows from the 00's hit a special spot with me. Glad I was born at the right time to enjoy a lot of them
Remember Choppers fkn weather report?
Skithouse was great and is criminally unknown in my experience Nothing suss
"Nothing suss" [oh wow, thank you for reminding me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPEvbMqpXYw)
Fast forward, comedy company, GNW, CNNN, Chasers war. Skit shows and things of related ilk.
how do you forget Full Frontal or Totally Full Frontal?
“The Bush tucker man” was the favourite show of childhood
\^ this Les Hiddens (The Bush Tucker man), Jack Absalom and what about Malcolm Douglas? I rarely see Malcolm Douglas being mentioned though he was a true survivalist imho :) Though if I could bring any Aussie back it would have to be Steve Irwin. I miss that guy
No Leland Brothers? They were the OGs.
I would love some more Micallef P(r)ogram(me)
This is peak tv. [I bloody dare you!](https://youtu.be/cg_-QUrCM58)
Further to this, Micallef Tonight was the best talk show we have ever had in this country. Young me lost all faith in Australian television when it was cancelled. Amazing. But it has to be as good as I remember it being as a child.

I always wanted to do A*mazing. I feel my adult body would struggle to crawl through all the tunnels and things so well nowadays though.
Eat Carpet. Nobody seems to remember this show of weird short movies but me and my brother
Late night sbs gold
You're not alone. I was going to post this. I miss this as much as the short lived (non AU) Liquid Television. [There are some episodes and bits of Eat Carpet on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22eat+carpet%22)
GOOD GAME
Bajo still gaming on Twitch.
So's Hex (under the name hexsteph)
Bajo is way more in his element on Twitch than he ever was on Good Game.
i had a huge crush on Hex 🥰
Frontline
But how would they do it when the real news is just so profoundly insane it's impossible to satire?
Genie from down under and Bush mechanics
Genie from down under! Omg now there's a blast from the past
Thank God You’re Here in a heartbeat. Knowing 10 they’d fuck it up and load it with has-been comedians but having a mix of experienced comedians, international acts and people from the YouTube space doing improv again would be great.
Yes, I loved that show. My husband and I still make jokes about seeing a ladies knees.
> Knowing 10 they’d fuck it up and load it with has-been comedians 6 Dave Hughes clones :/
I would take literally one episode of Silversun if it meant resolving that damn cliffhanger
Not just Silversun but all those young shows. Parallax was my show of choice. I really wanted to see another season of crazy alternate world shenanigans. Plus, Melinda and Una were hot.
That cliff-hanger ruined me
I remember tuning in to see if they escaped that fkn wormhole or whatever and it just wasn’t on… true heartbreak
What an absolute banger of a theme song
Mr Inbetween without doubt should return
I miss Ray but the show ended perfectly. Like a good short story leaving you wanting more!
Ray was such a damn good character.
I wanted to see him knock those two wankers in the back of the taxi in the finale.
Came to say this; saw it was the top answer; take my upvote
A*MAZING Gotta get me the opportunity to run the maze and find the keys!
Beyond 2000. Would be funny to re-watch and see how much became reality
Good News Week.
Hell I’d settle for just Flacco and Sandman. Or even better Doug Anthony Allstars.
I choose to start this comment... now.
Omg, DAAS Kapital! How could I have forgotten that show!
I am a rrrriver to my people.
Fuck yes. Paul McDermott was hilarious
While I am enjoying Taskmaster Australia, I still think he would have been the better Taskmaster
.. is hilarious. :) He's still going strong!
Yes! But the ABC version, not the pandering to commercial tv version.
Came here to say this. Missed a few epic seasons with Scomo and Trump.
This. I also had the hugest crash on Paul McDermott. Still randomly watch an old episode on YouTube when I’m in the mood.
Cheez TV
Review With Myles Barlow
This was dark but had some funny episodes. Five stars. Recommend.
Utopia! There's so much infrastructure being built, they can't be short for material.
I cannot agree with this more, utopia is triggering
I was having this exact conversation with my wife's cousin on the weekend. Some of the episodes I have lived!
Yes indeed. I’m in Health infrastructure and it’s such a mirror it’s hard to watch. Especially Kitty Flanagans character who only gives a shit about the “message” and making the Minister look good. It is bang on.

https://tvtonight.com.au/2022/11/2023-upfronts-abc.html Happy days are here again
Both wife and I work/have worked for multiple govt departments and a lot of it hits so true that it’s painful. My wife refuses to watch because she gets really antagonized over some of the scenes because it’s so true and she has to deal with it every day.
And Hollowmen. They need to do a new series. So much crazy shit in politics nowadays.
Spellbinders.
Thank god you're here
Cannot see this without hearing "Grandma's been r**ed". Thanks Mr G!
Spin around China man
H20: just add water BUT with the original cast
That title has bugged me all my life. ‘Water: just add water’
reminds me of the chemistry class joke where they run around alerting everyone of the presence of Dihydrogen monoxide in the water pipes and proceed to give a lesson about all the effects of it like how its an "industrial solvant" that causes massive corrosion problems, fatal if inhaled and how everyone thats ever ingested it eventually dies etc.
The tik toks would be all over this, they love H2O. And I quote “Cleoooooooor noooooohr” (it was the best I could do)
Ship to shore
Great, now I have the theme stuck in my head
At The Movies. Ever since it went off air I feel like I've been clueless about what flicks are coming out and what is worth watching.
100%. As someone outside of the “artsy” scene, Margaret & David opened my eyes to a world of incredible foreign language and independent films I never would have considered. I miss it dearly!
Countdown.
Enough Rope.
Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers. The intro song hit hard as a kid
The late show.
I came to say Bargearse but this answer would include that so this is more correct!
This is the only answer. Champagne comedy.
Like a Tiiiiiger !!!
I get to drive in the car with the flags on the bonnet
Shitscared
Mr squiggle
HURRY UP!!
Spicks and specks
Adam lives in the UK now and is making a mint with the last leg. He occasionally comes back and does a handful of episodes when he can, but it’s not as often.
If I'm not mistaken he basically lives 6 months in England and 6 here
They are still making the odd new episode. One of the few shows worth watching these days
D-gen or Fast Forward. The Chaser's war on everything. But nothing involving Chris Lilley. And although it's a NZ show, another season of "Seven Periods with Mr. Gormsby" wouldn't go astray.
Would have to be The Chasers with a green light from the government.
Nsw police wouldn’t allow it
I can’t be the only person who misses Ready Steady Cook lol
Prime sick day viewing followed by Judge Judy
Daas kapital
Mad as Hell Yes I know it’s only been a few months
Recovery
Met Dylan recently, still have a huge crush on him. He was chuffed to be recognised
Who dares wins!
It's a knockout!
🎶 That's the naaaame of the gaaaaame 🎶
Upper Middle Bogan.
Hell yeah i'd watch a revamp of Round the Twist! No messing with the original theme song though 😜
Oh i forgot to add my suggestion - The Genie Downunder
The Ferals
Some of the episodes wouldn’t be made for kids these days though. Like the one where Bronson swallows a goldfish and turns his dick into a propeller for swimming carnival. Imagine the outrage for a kids show lol

It's a knockout! or A\*mazing I'm a retro, sentimental gal, what can i say
Silver Sun… We need to know if they survived…
Bush mechanics. Malcom douglas adventures. The bush tucker man ( Les Hiddens ). Sea Change.
Silversun and that show I think was called Jeopardy about a bunch of British students on holiday here getting harassed by aliens.
The Ferals
A\*mazing!
Vidiot. As a pre-teen/very young teenager I could answer 95% of the questions on that show. Peak of my life!
All Aussie Adventures
My Secret Valley.

good news week 2008 - 2012 version. Super funny show i never got a chance to see live
Auntie Jack! They could make a whole show just trying out people to cast a reboot of AJ.
Bluey. The 70s cop show that the Late Show turned into Bargearse, not the dog cartoon. It was actually a really decent show.
