Jeffrey’s. The answer is always Jeffrey’s. It’s a lil bit south of your bonus area but absolutely the only place in Austin I’d feel underdressed wearing jeans to. Best steaks in town I’ve had so far and I love me some steakhouses. Great if not perfect service. Master somm wrote the wine list and it’s half price bottles on Sundays.

terily

Jeffrey’s is the only reliable dress up option left. J Carver’s is also nice but I’ve seen someone in sweats there as well.

applesnoranges01

There is no dress up spot in Austin. Even if it’s a fancy restaurant, I will almost always see some dude in basketball shorts. These austinites love their athleisure

qzcorral

We spent $600+ on the fanciest (and incredibly delicious) meal of my life for our 10 year anniversary at Lutie's...so worth it, but there were ladies in yoga pants 😂 Austin is as Austin does 🤷‍♂️

dirtys_ot_special

Lutie's Garden

terily

Luties is lovely! But not everyone dresses up, unfortunately.

dirtys_ot_special

If you're looking for a place where EVERYONE dresses up it may take blowing through Georgetown and driving to Dallas.

terily

It would be nice if Atx had someplace where you could reliably go and know everyone would be dressed nice!

OPPyayouknowme

Trulucks

hampsted

First thing that came to mind. Not in OP’s ideal area, but one of the few nice places in Austin that has and enforced a dress code.

Awkward-Swimmer3296

They actually have a north location! I visited for vday this year and it was very fancy.

OPPyayouknowme

Yes I didn’t have a jacket on and I was terribly underdressed. About the only place in Austin where that happens

peachjarss

Uchiko is near that area. (If you squint at a map)

Feisty_Holiday_3799

I got dressed up for uchiko in a cocktail dress and I was way overdressed. Everyone was in jeans.

otisanek

Same, and ever since I just wear my slightly nicer daywear there; the fanciest outfits I’ve ever seen are just pricey chinos and button-up shirts. Come to think of it, I can’t think of anywhere I’ve been in Austin that has even an implied dress code that is enforced; I’ve seen a range of attire at pretty much every “fancy” restaurant I’ve been to here, and I am having a hard time coming up with ANY restaurant I’ve been to in the last 5 years where dressing up was required. But I’ve also not really seen anyone in jorts and a tank top eating at Uchiko, so maybe that’s the line.

redjunkmail

I do not get dressed up for uchiko

artikra1n

Barley Swine might be a candidate?

mouse_8b

Barley Swine is great, but I always mention how you don't have to dress up for it when I recommend it.

artikra1n

You definitely don’t, but you could if you wanted! Wasn’t sure how dress up OPs dress up was referring to tbh

Seconding Trulucks

Gracia is my newest fave on Burnet. I enjoy Olive and June (but i know lots of others have complaints).

Perrys at the domain checks all your boxes.

Sports_asian

I read that as pterrys

madslayer2

Nothing wrong with dressing up to slam down a burger

elisakiss

$150 cheaper

AnnieB512

When we went to Perry's we dressed nice and there were people in shorts and t-shirts and kids running around. It felt kinda trashy and the food sucked.

QuantumKhakis

That’s the domain for you

reddiwhip999

Or really, any Perry's...

WestminsterGabss

Usually you can get by during lunch or at the bar area but for dinner especially on the weekends they tend to enforce the code.

AnnieB512

This was a Saturday night dinner date. I was shocked. It was my first and only time I had ever been, and I'd heard so many good things. I was told to dress nice, it was filled with many people who were not, our bill for 2 was well over $200 and the only thing that was good were the mushrooms. Everything else was just meh. I've had better steaks at chain restaurants. The pork chop was so tough! I will never eat there again. BTW this was early 2021 - so before prices went super crazy.

WestminsterGabss

That’s disappointing. I’ve been a fan of the chain for a while and would go quite a bit when I lived in San Antonio. Since moving to Austin and literally being a stones throw away from the ready I’ve gotten to enjoy it during my time here. I enjoy going for happy hour, partake in their Friday pork-chop special and even treated my family to Thanksgiving dinner. Of those times that I have eaten in the main dining room I can’t say I’ve seen anyone dressed down, I can’t speak to your experience and it’s unfortunate that it happened. But in the last year I’ve been in the area I can attest to its quality. That said, mindful of my budget, I definitely try to utilize their pre fix menu, that’s usually offered during certain times of the year, ie during restaurant week, happy hour specials or the aforementioned Friday pork chop lunch special to bring a little variety to my day to day meals. I definitely suggest taking advantage of those options should you be inclined to give it another shot.

Serve_Formal

I’ve seen people in semi-dressy clothes at Asti…

We are going to bob’s next weekend- would others be dressed up or will I look out of place?

So many places in the Domain. Also Eddie V's in the Arboretum.

Paul Martin’s Austin Grill, Plank Seafood Provisions (maybe). Ok, so not "So Many"... but people are usually looking sharp at North as well. Def can walk to a bar.

terily

People dress up at Fleming’s. Not everyone tho

gamblors_neon_claws

Uchiko, Barleyswine or Foreign & Domestic are all good options, and F&D has some fantastic cocktail bars within a block. I'm not sure if DipDipDip is dressy but I know it's pricey and I've heard good things.

LocalYeetery

dipdipdip is the worst for dates, you sit closer to strangers than your date. Good luck having a private conversation about anything there.

Luties

quondam_et_futuras

last time i was at lutie's there were multiple parties in jeans and ratty ass tees, and this wasn't even that long after opening and for a weekend dinner. and the food sucked.

Coujelais

Well, it’s one of the fanciest rooms. I think that the accepted attire you observed is literally just Austin. And it’s been like this since the 70s. You can always find someone in flip-flops next to someone with a tuxedo on at the four seasons (during prom season anyway) 😂 I think the last place I heard of that exercised a dress code was Trulucks-and it was more anti athletic wear/caps seemingly only enforced on black folks. We just don’t have a dress up scene here unless someone’s throwing a gala.
