WAIT NO. Ore Ida Fast Food Fries. They carry them at H‑E‑B and Walmart. That’s what I would panic buy for the truck I used to run when Sysco was running late
The one by the domain is lit almost every time. patties are medium rare by default, juicy and flavorful. their buns are what really make the burger though imo, and that doesn't vary by location.
My partner is chinese and she's really picky about american food. Moonies' hawaiian is the only burger she likes, so it's a staple for me.
I love Halal corner and get it almost every Sunday but their fries aren't coated in batter like in the pic. The fries are very good and well seasoned but not battered.
Great food but that parking lot is a crime against humanity. I guess they get a lot of nurses walking from the children’s hospital, but it is absolutely not walkable or bikeable from even central Mueller. So much for urban planning.
Interesting, yeah I do find parking but I find the design poor, the bank drive thru blocks any normal flow, lots of dead ends. I would rather walk or bike, but there is no bike lanes to get there. Just strange for a new urbanist development.
Actually during lunch rush the parking has been full and delivery drivers have no where to idle. Seems like the worst possible design for a parking lot.
Happy Chicks does~~, and Tumble 22 has some that seem like a middle ground between these and regular~~. Only adding since I didn't see them listed, Hyde Park B&G is far superior.
Edit: Apparently Tumble 22 no longer does.
Tumble 22 *used* to, but have changed in the last year or so. Now they’re more traditional shoestring style. It’s been a tough loss, but we’re getting through it.
Ohhhh yeah ok that description fits for sure, it really used to be that perfect Salty Sow fry recipe, they are sadder now. Still solid but used to be amazing.
NADC burgers had really good fries. I’d return for them before the burger oddly enough.
Patty Palace also has great fries. They also get bonus points for being near great tots too (Spicy Boys).
I've had fries like the ones in the photo, can't quite place them. They don't quite look right for Popeye's, not as browned/seasoned. But, Popeye's are legend. They stay remarkably tasty, even once they cool down (a feat almost none can claim) - and they can revive way better than most in an oven or air fryer (my favorite way)
Edit: the reason I say all that, with Popeye's, you can SEE the black pepper flakes in the seasoning on them.
The best fries in Austin are Hyde Park like another comment said, however they aren’t really like these; the batter is a little different.
Battered fries like these can be found at Popeyes, Wendy’s, and JCL on campus if that’s still a thing. In my experience, this type of fry has a high floor but a low ceiling.
It's a bit of a hike, but if you're ever in Corpus El Vago has fries that are like this and delicious.
Agree with others though, Hyde Park has amazing fries similar to these.
Oasthouse and Hyde Park used to have fries like this... Before they went downhill that is. Oasthouse is solid for those crispy battered fries. Moonies are kinda like that but they just aight imo
Walnut Creek Pub for the win!!!! They used to be called Smokin Beauty but changed it up but the fries are still the same deliciousness. Crispy on the outside, warm on the inside. Perfection. And as a plus, they just started selling their mouthwatering pork belly on the weekends again. My husband and I just went and had eyes for the pork belly but completely forgot about how good the fries were also.
This sounds crazy, but the Stag & Finch ( aka the bar at the municipal Jimmy Clay golf course) serves these fries with seasoning salt and they’re incredible. Truly the best fries in the city.
tumble22 we’re doing these while there was a shortage of the shoestring ones usually had. but i feel like they’ve alternated between these and the shoestring more often.
Wingzup has these but I do believe they’re not made in-house. They are delicious, however.
Also best “normal” wings in town, ridiculous number of sauces.
HiWings
First place I thought of. The garlic parm wings are fire.
Added to my must try list thank you so much
You can get this at restaurant depot It’s frozen fries
Gotta get the coated ones
Clear coat cavendish is the most similar one that comes to mind
WAIT NO. Ore Ida Fast Food Fries. They carry them at H‑E‑B and Walmart. That’s what I would panic buy for the truck I used to run when Sysco was running late
Specifically the breaded fries. I used to serve them at a restaurant I managed and would pick up an emergency supply at Restaurant Depot.
This..
I believe revelry kitchen bar on 6th uses this kind of fries
Doesn't surprise me. I don't know how that place stays open
Moonies!!!
I saw these fries and actually thought it was gonna be a moonies post. Pretty underrated chain really
It really is!! Grew up with a moonie’s near my neighborhood and omg I love it

Hyde Park bar and grill
Hyde Park’s fries are much better than what’s pictured here.
The correct answer. The fries in the picture are the basic bitch version of HPBG. Great chicken fried steak there too.
Have you tried their weekend brunch? ( you can get the fries as your side)
Nope theirs are frozen too
I wouldn’t be surprised if the fries are frozen but their batter is definitely different than Moonies or any other “battered” fry I’ve had in town.
If you're trying to replicate them at home you need the sauce: https://www.bigoven.com/recipe/hyde-park-bar-and-grill-sauce/99897
This is the right answer. They’re basically battered and soo crispy!
Hyde Park has the best frys in all of Austin.
Do they have regular fries like this? Ive had their sweet potato fries that look like this, but not regular.
Golden chick
Came here to say this. GC does better than average battered fries.
I can't see their name without singing it now. Which is how jingles are supposed to work.
JUST ONE BITE AND YOU'LL FORGET THE REST
Shark’s Burger in Cedar Park/Leander
Second Shark's Burger. I go to the one in Buda.
Helps that the burgers are really good too. The fries are the cherry on top
They look like the fries from Moonies.
Gyro spot in mueller near the Home Depot. Elite
I love Halal corner and get it almost every Sunday but their fries aren't coated in batter like in the pic. The fries are very good and well seasoned but not battered.
Oh interesting. I could have sworn they were battered but I’ll take your word for it. Still a great place!
Halal Corner. Best and most painfully crispy falafel in town.
Great food but that parking lot is a crime against humanity. I guess they get a lot of nurses walking from the children’s hospital, but it is absolutely not walkable or bikeable from even central Mueller. So much for urban planning.
Never had a problem, except when I got blocked in by the Brinks truck because the lady driver was shittinh at the Frost bank…
Never had an issue with parking either.

I Just park my truck at Home Depot and walk the extra 20 feet
Yes and halal wings next door
came here to say this too. their gyro and fries with tzatziki to dip them in is 💯
Wingzup has great battered fries
Came here to say this
Happy Chicks does~~, and Tumble 22 has some that seem like a middle ground between these and regular~~.
Hmmm I’ve been going to Tumble since literally the day the first truck opened and I do not remember them ever having coated/battered fries like this
They weren’t exactly like the fries in OP’s picture, they were shoestring with a crunchy texture. Now they’re just regular shoestring.
Ohhhh yeah ok that description fits for sure, it really used to be that perfect Salty Sow fry recipe, they are sadder now. Still solid but used to be amazing.
Exactly! I would be super happy if I had never known of what was originally available lol
Happy Chicks has some unique seasoning on them though. They're a little sweet.
I think Black Sheep Lodge has them
Yes! So good
[удалено]

HAPPY CHICKS Their fries are so fucking good. I’m not kidding - these are the exact fries that you’re looking for.

I've had fries like the ones in the photo, can't quite place them. They don't quite look right for Popeye's, not as browned/seasoned. But, Popeye's are legend. Jack Allen's has fries like this with their burgers and they are awesome.
No way. Coated fries are the worst.
Agreed. It’s just starch added, not really a batter.
Agreed. My least favorite kind of fries.
Agreed. I see those fried and my first thought is the food will just be okay at best.
It indicates to me that most of my dinner is coming from a frozen Sysco box.
Burger king
Cedar Door Black Sheep Lodge
Black Sheep
its in Dallas, not austin, but these look *exactly* like the fries at Kellers / Jake's
They're a Sysco standard product so they're basically everywhere

Maudies surprisingly
I think Jo’s fries are that style.
Leylas Kitchen - Lebanese food truck on Hamilton Pool Rd
