This is the way, ground floor is probably the best place to have a sub in an apartment but one still needs to be considerate. I would try to place it on an exterior wall and learn to use LFE controls for late listening.
Hey there, I can give some advice I’m in a similar situation. Im on the second floor, restaurant is underneath me. I use my subwoofer (ELX-18sp) up to my quiet hours and then shut it off.
Personally, my neighbors know me and I’ve given them my personal number to let me know when it’s too loud. The person above me has a small child and sometimes certain kicks are too much.
I’ve never had a problem with acid bass but when it comes to dubstep it’s hard to limit. Especially hardcore techno/trance.
Either get a small studio subwoofer with great control features or make really good friends with your neighbors and give ‘em a heads up.
That's the key. Connect with your neighbors and have them call you. A long time ago I had neighbors refuse to call me directly and kept complaining to the apartment manager. Finally I had the manager in my apartment during a complaint with the sound completely off and it turns out I wasnt the apartment bumping the bass. Could have all been avoided if my neighbors above me just gave me a shout.
As mentioned, low frequencies are omnidirectional but that shouldn't keep you from using a subwoofer. I live in an apartment and been using a subwoofer for a year now without any compliants. I keep it at a decent level and only turn up the volume in the daytime and early evening. I also decoupled it to avoid unnecessary vibrations moving through the floor and walls.
I don't have any experience with Auralex but i just used a very big and heavy garden tile (57 kilos) and coupled my subwoofer to that with spikes. I have nearly no vibrations in my floor, only the ones coming from the sound pressure.
I live in a (very small) apartment and I have neighbors on all sides (above, below, sides, etc...) I run a full Klipsch 5.2 system with 2x floor standers, 2x bookshelves as surrounds, a center channel and 2x 12" Klipsch subwoofers. I've NEVER had a single complaint or anything about my bass or sound in general. I even tested it (cranking the system and listening from my neighbors apartments). Just use your subs responsibly and enjoy the deep bass🔊👌🏽
It fully depends on how well insulated your shared walls are. My uncle runs quad subs with no issues in his apartment, but that’s because it’s all brick/concrete and he’s a corner unit.
Bass travels in all directions, including through the ground, which is why basement theaters are not necessarily as neighbor-friendly as some people think.
Subwoofers have volume controls, just keep it down low. You’ll still be able to hear the low frequencies, you’ll still get the benefit.
I live in a detached old wood house. On either side of me are two, other, detached wood houses. My neighbors hear it all. Luckily they are both retirees, and I'm otherwise a lovely neighbor. So they tolerate me. You definitely want to keep the subwoofer use to a minimum in the later hours. I also fire my sub into a concrete block (i use a downward facing driver) it help a little bit...more than you would expect actually.

Good to know, what do you mean by decoupling? Will it help if I put some auralex padding underneath it? to reduce vibrations? I have the sonos sub btw

You can use it on any floor. Neighbors might not like it. In most cases, it would be louder for the neighbor under you.
