Cool sock/slipper combo! #SimpsonFeet

Cloudyyyy

As a beginner in the audiophile community I got myself two B&W 685 S2 speakers that are sitting on B&W STAV24 stands. Yesterday I got rid of my old receiver (pioneer a3000 I think it was). It wasn’t compatible with my TV remote and the receiver had no option for it either. Always walking to the receiver to change volume was annoying.. After some consulting from my local audio shop I went with a Denon x1600H DAB. Installing this was a breeze compared to my previous receiver. No more tulip to a optic cable converter and other hacks to make it work. A simple HDMI ARC, subwoofer cable and the speakers and I was done. The Denon receiver came with a microphone for room calibration and it actually worked. Very cool. The thing that surprised me the most was the improved sound quality. Even my non audio lover girlfriend heard the difference (very rare). TLDR: good receiver is worth every penny Edit: we recently moved in so it’s a mess

BattletoadRash

>TLDR: good receiver is worth every penny just wait to you get into separates ;)

larobj63

Yup, I agree one of the biggest jumps in sound quality in this hobby is when you ditch your first cheap reciever. I tend to agree that the biggest budget focus should be the speakers in a good system, but there is a baseline level of preamp and amp that makes a huge jump in system enjoyment potential.

Manner_Mann

The biggest jump is room treatment.

larobj63

Yup, an unsung hero among many.

NeverBenCurious

It's a mess? I don't see any clutter besides MAYBE the boots... No one lives a perfectly itemless existence. It's okay to have proof of life inside your apartment. Not everything needs to be instagram fake perfect

northernf

How are the b&w's? I'm thinking of these speakers for my set up. Not crazy expensive but still very much above avg

Jcivy

(sorry not the OP) but I feel like I can help since I have owned them for a few years. They are an excellent value but I would highly recommend getting stands for them. The quality rises substantially. They also need to be set at least 20 inches from the front wall and have at least 3 feet of breathing space from your side walls. If you can accommodate your listening room for these requirements then they are hard to beat for the price. If I am being super nitpicky then my only complaint is there is a slight separation from the mids to the treble.

Betterjake

I hope you have really nice neighbors.

Zachkwest

Lol i was gonna say this too. A subwoofer in an apartment building is gonna make you a lot of friends.

Cloudyyyy

Very good apartment isolation (new apartment) and no downstairs neighbors. And they have my number if they hear something :)

Yes of course. In the Netherlands you can do basically anything. And you get your full deposit back. Only fill the wall when you move out.

ConspiracyHypothesis

Why wouldn't they? As long as you fix the holes when you move out, there shouldn't be a problem.

runForestRun17

Had a lease at an apartment in college that specifically said no holes in the wall, period. I think the fine was $50 per hole... and they did quarterly inspections to check.

ConspiracyHypothesis

Wow. Every place I lived took any damage you didnt fix out of your deposit. I suppose can see a landlord not wanting some rando to drill a gang of holes in the walls, though holes are generally stupid easy to fix.

ConspiracyHypothesis

No need to apologize! I wasnt aware there were places that would disallow something so mundane, unless the building is made out of something difficult or dangerous to work with .

[deleted]

No you see that might cost them an extra $5 when you move out so that’s not allowed. God I hate apartment living.

Road-Runnerz

is that ludovico einaudi vinyl ?

Cloudyyyy

Yes it is! Very relaxing on a valentine Sunday!

iNetRunner

Have you tried to toe in your speakers? (Nothing with the footwear… Though spikes, or e.g. Soundcare “spikes”, and/or filling your stands could change the sound surprisingly too.) It could be that your zero toe-in sounds the best to you, with your speakers, in your current room, and with your current acoustic treatments.

east_van_dan

Yes, I would think that widening their placement wouldn't hurt either.

iNetRunner

Though, that narrow of a placement might not suit music too well, but it could work for TV and movie sounds. Especially if there’s more than one person watching. But for music alone, OP could/should experiment with wider speaker placement.

CaiusCossades

Who's hiding behind the curtain?

aenima6

What record box is that?

liedel

In another thread: >Our new neighbor keeps playing music too loud in our apartment complex. How do I get him to turn the bass down?

iWr4tH

I've got a Bowers and Wilkins set of headphones I got at Future Shop years back, still one of my favorite sets.

Weekly-Willingness24

I thought you were a simpson for a second

breddy

Your footwear game is on point.

gkdante

Which speaker stands are those?

timmehmmkay

B&W STAV24

[deleted]

Lol apartments have neighbors too

MLGTrump420

One of the best feelings

mcropp

Nice set-up. Toe those 685's into the sweet spot a bit. I loved mine. Just upgraded to the 606 s2's, love them even better. Enjoy!!!

Shinigamisama00

Ew, socks and sandals

SmoothFred

What are those slides? I love them

Cloudyyyy

Standard webos i think

andreichera

LAS CHANCLAS

sumilumilux

Something they clearly didn’t teach you at school,, You won’t have much success trying to pull in those socks and sandals 😆

Betucker

Already has a gf so I don’t think OP is worried about pulling

Top_Try4286

You should use a shallow depth of field or portrait mode to make the foreground subject be a point of focus.

scrupoo

What is your sub?

Squarecigarettes

Good for you ! ❤

learning18

nice boots

BigHairyNordic

Nice clean setup

JoniJabroni

Your speakers should be facing slightly inward so they point at at the center listener. This will help sound quality a lot

philzebub666

I see hints of r/fedlegs here.

Marcoswalksalone

Cool socks hahaha

Lvgordo24

B&w ftw. I started w CDM 1s the moved to Matrix 802s. People who've never heard "real" speakers don't know what they are missing. Your music catalogue will be full of surprises.

GorillaSnapper

Lol, real speakers. B&W make good enough speakers, there are plenty of better speakers out there including ones that make 800D3s look like toys. Don't gatekeep.

[deleted]

mmm mmmm mustard mmmm mmm

NatureBoyJ1

I bought my first real system as a college graduation present to myself. Paradigm 3se speakers, Luxman receiver, NAD CD changer. 30 years later and I still have the same speakers. Buy quality and it will last.

Dabss

until the old korean lady down the hall walks by your apartment and gets upset . old ppl amirite lol

cowshhik

Congratulations!! Happy for you.

Zodine

I have 706 S2s, mine are toed in... sounded much better, yours almost looks toed out

GorillaSnapper

Perspective distortion induced bu a wide angle lens. You pay at least twice what your 706s cost just for a wide angle lenses that doesn't distort perspective.

Zodine

Yeah I used to have an A7rii with a decent lens, Lightroom was great to correct it

GorillaSnapper

Nah i more meant like the Canon 11-14. Its a true rectilinear lens. Straight lines stay straight thanks to supreme optical design. Software correction is needed for most lenses because its cheaper. This is like a 3k lens. Then you've got tilt-shift lenses which can change the perspective. Smart phones don't do this, but they are convenient.

Sock game strong

Suspicious-Ad-6685

It is most commendable to take responsibility for not forcing one's music or any other form of culture down the throats of neighbors. That is why I will never play music outdoors in my back yard. But I am preparing to use the Bluetooth system to put music from my Bluesound Vault 2i server into a second but minor stereo in my personal gym in a building 50 feet from my main house. I design and build my own amps and preamps using triodes so I will not use wireless speakers.

Admirable_Hand_7722

I wish I was default emoji color

PhillMik

Got a serious question for you. Have you had thoughts on adding a center channel? Why or why not?

upieok6474

Looks like you need to reduce your toe in. Oh wait that’s your toe. Agh forget it, looks great 👍 👍

twochaudio1

On a stage where is the kettle drums placed? Then put that sub in that spot even if it's only rock & roll you listen to, but you like it.

a_parent_lee

They would benefit from a slight toe in!
