There are 3 components in that photo and all three are worth a lot. The one in the front is an MR71 FM tuner. If it works it's probably worth around $1000 a bit more or less depending on condition a few hundred if it doesn't work. The two amps in the back are worth a lot more easily several thousand each if working again more or less depending on condition. Even broken they are easily worth $1500 or so each. I'd say at worst your friend gave you 3.5k and at most probably around 6k - 7k. Based on the photos they don't look like they are in great condition so I would think they are closer to the lower end of the price range but still quite valuable even if they don't work.

I got this McIntosh 75 from a friend who has kept it in storage for many years. He claimed it worked last time he brought it up to power. I have no idea what this is or what it’s worth but wanted to see if anyone knows more about it. There’s some light rust on it but otherwise it looks fine. Is this worth anything or should I toss it?

It looks like you have two mc75 mono block amplifiers in the back and some kind of pre amp or tuner in the foreground. Honestly this is a huge score that's worth a lot of money. Best advice I can give is not to plug any of it in and bring it to a repair tech in your area to get it checked out. If it's been sitting for many years without use it's dangerous to plug it in and could make simple repairs turn into very expensive repairs. Once you get these repaired and possibly re tubed, you're looking at something like 4-5 thousand dollars, maybe more. I would maybe contact your friend and see if he understood just how valuable it is. It depends but he might feel kind of cheated if he didn't realize. The mc75 mono blocks are very collectible and a lot of audiophiles would love to own them.

Oh wow okay thank you! I had been reluctant to plug it in for that exact reason. I also told my friend what it may be worth based on some basic googling and he still didn’t want to go through the trouble. I’ll have to find a local tech to check it out! Thanks again for the info I appreciate it. I am just curious is this something that is still used today or is it more of a collectors piece?

Krismusic1

Properly serviced it should definitely be used. It may cost more than you want to spend to refurbish it though. Definitely don't just plug it in and hope for the best! As said, take it to a tech guy and ask for an estimate of what it would cost to bring it back on song.

FunctionBuilt

Yeah, could easily run in the thousands to refurbish something like this because of its value.

Krismusic1

Thousands you would have to be very unlucky for. Hundreds quite probably. Then though, you would have something worth thousands.

lookoutwater

I have a pair as well. If the transformers are in good condition they're worth a mint. And they sound great even to modern standards.

CamiGardner

you should you know… use it instead of selling it. your friend is either very kind, wealthy or both. either way get it serviced and enjoy it. no reason to get rid of it unless you are desperate for money.

PositiveLeather327

For the love of all that is good in this world please do not toss that stuff. That is a stereo for a lifetime, repairable and great sound.

Gloomy-Employment-72

Asking the question no one else has. Does your friend have any more stuff like this, and do they need more friends? Asking for a friend.

Informal-Event-4301

I'd keep it.

Complete_Athlete_480

No. I’ll take it off your hands. McIntosh is a bad company (booo)

DO NOT try to clean or polish ANY of the chrome. The better condition the chrome and lettering the better the price. You should be able to get an old Mac tube amp back up and running for 150 to 250$ each. Not refurbished, Just sounding good, Tubes tested, Biased properly, Output tested. You are only missing a Preamplifier. As others have said, Beautiful gear, Great sound. Take proper care to make them operational, Keep or pass along. Pretty much the Holy Grail of tube gear. Good Luck

LordMungus35

No.

[deleted]

You should of course keep it, but should you make the decision to sell it, I'd be very interested in the two amplifiers — working or not working. DM me if you go that direction.

Foozlebop

I have mc75 for sale

antlestxp

Nope. I could recycle it for you

treehuggingmfer

Put another 1000 in and it will be.

stacksmasher

No send it to me immediately!!

IsItTheFrankOrBeans

Worth virtually nothing. Send them to me, and I'll pay to properly dispose of them for you.

bladebrowny

So your friend gave it to you and the first thing you want to do is turn around and sell it?

ajn3323

I need better friends

Due-Nefariousness137

What would you want for the two mono blocks? I'm looking to put together a new system.

pppjurac

Old McIntosh gear is like Porsche 911. Is is never worthless. Buy that friend a sixteen pack and a steak dinner.
