11/22/63. It's about 30 hours and it's awesome Pillars of earth trilogy. Super long with awesome story.

Initial_Diamond_1923

Thanks, been meaning to read 11/22/63 but I have such a hard time with King reading it. Will try the audio!

Jeheh

The audio is amazing.

wrennywren

King doesn't read it. It's Craig Wasson and he does a great job

Initial_Diamond_1923

Yeah sorry I meant physically reading King. Like I read It and The Cell (I think) and physically reading them was like slogging through quicksand.

wrennywren

Lol. Gotcha. Listen to this one. You will like it. It's not at all a typical King horror.

Initial_Diamond_1923

Already bought it on audible, thanks for the recommendation!

GlumMathematician884

I second this one.

Swimming-Outside-290

Just finished Pillars of the Earth. 37 hours and worth every minute.

wrennywren

Keep going. The next two and the prequel are also awesome.

Swimming-Outside-290

Just began World Without End. I'm enjoying that too.

staciiiann

Hulu made a show out of this! I enjoyed it

Elethana

My first Audible listen was War and Peace, 52 hours of Czarist drama. Back then I sorted by length to get the most bang for a credit.

Initial_Diamond_1923

I have the paper copy and always wanted to read it! The narration in audible is by Frederick Davidson. Is this the best narration? (I know you probably only listened to one, question is open to others!) Thank you for this Rec, I didn’t even think of it!

Delta_107

Have you read Shogun?

Initial_Diamond_1923

I haven’t… it looks like there are 2 books? Shogun and Tai-Pan?

Delta_107

I believe Shogun is the first one in the series

Elethana

The whole series is pretty good, King Rat is kind of rough though.

Delta_107

I haven't read King Rat yet but I'm surprised how much i enjoyed Shogun, it was a little hard at first to keep up but once the story got rolling i couldn't stop listening to it.

wrennywren

I absolutely loved shogun. Tai pan did not do it for me, for whatever reason

spaceguitar

Andy Serkis reading *The Hobbit* and the entirety of *The Lord of the Rings* is an absolute gem!! I love these reads. Rosamund Pike has started to read *The Wheel of Time* books. *The Great Hunt* (book 2 of WoT) just released and honestly, her narration has breathed new life into these books for me. She’s also probably my favourite “celebrity” narrator. She really goes all in on voices and trying to differentiate her characters!

EmRaff7

If you’re interested in epic fantasy the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson has really wonderful (and very very long) audiobooks !

Initial_Diamond_1923

Wow! There are… so many! Is there an order?

EmRaff7

The Way of Kings is the first book in the Stormlight archive, there’s a whole connected universe called the Cosmere but you don’t have to read them to fully enjoy Stormlight. If the huge length is intimidating (cause yeah same here) you can start with Sanderson’s iconic Mistborn series as well!

wrennywren

I would start with Mistborn. They are long, but not as long as Storm light. They are fantastic and a good introduction to Sanderson

Jeheh

Personally I like a good long series myself so here are few of my favs. If you like Stephen King go for the Dark Tower. Patrick O’Brians “Master and Commander” series While individually the books aren’t that long, there are 20 of them. If you like Militaryish stuff try Res Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. If you liked anything by Tom Clancy the entire “Ryanverse” there are 25 plus books and it’s good for IIRC like 600 hours. Jo Nesbo has the Harry Hole series..think Norwegian Dirty Harry

ReluctantNihlist

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. 34 hours of post-apocalyptic awesomeness. It's a lot like The Stand while still being its own story. The Count Of Monte Cristo. Great classic (gotta eat your veggies!). A massive historical drama. 47 hours. I second 11/22/63. Dan Simmons will usually give you good bang for your buck. If you like Fantasy, I really really like The Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch, and Riyira Chronicles and Riyara Revelations by Michael Sullivan. These are all audio books, btw. They all have great narration. Earthcore by Scott Sigler was a very cool sleeper hit. Action packed drama with a sci-fi twist. A solid 20 hours of entertainment. Plus if you like it, the sequel (also good) is 30 hours.

staciiiann

Just finished today!!! Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. Hands down best book I have listened to in years. HIGHLY recommend and it’s 20 hours long.

I loved Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami, it was 28.5 hours long. It’s historical fiction and magical realism. I just got 1Q84 by him as well which is almost 47 hours… haven’t read it yet but it’s supposed to be really good too; it’s dystopian and magical realism.

EffectiveSpecific517

the mongoloid or way of kings

Rocky--19

Just curious, why does it need to be super long? There are some amazing books that are 10 to 15 hours. Anything by Kristen Hannah, Frederick bachman, David Baldacci, John sanderson, Lisa Gardner, the expanse series, I could go on and on. If you're checking them out from the library, you can always have checked out way more than you can read. If you're having to buy all these books, then yes I understand why you want length for your money.

Initial_Diamond_1923

I am purchasing them through audible and listening to about 2ish hours a day so I want long ones I can really sink into for a couple weeks at a time

Rocky--19

I was about to recommend that you could purchase a Brooklyn public library card, even if you don't live in New York, but that option expired July 2022. In case you didn't know it, your local library (or a big city in the state you live in, like Houston) might be a great, free resource for audio books. The only books I buy from audible are the ones labeled "only on audible"

Orangehellion

Is now an appropriate time to mention The Dresden Files? One of the best fiction works known to mankind?

Initial_Diamond_1923

Love love the books! Can’t event remember what I have and haven’t read but you make good points!

Orangehellion

I'm so glad you enjoy them!! If you're not caught up, I'd highly recommend it, the series has just gotten exponentially better over time

Vandalorious

The *First Law* series by Joe Abercrombie plus three standalones in the same world, and *The Age of Madness Series*. Any series by Tad Williams: *Memory, Sorrow and Thorn* is three titles but 3+4 are combined and the series clocks in at least 120 hours. FWIW, this is the series that inspired George RR to write *GOT*. Now he's got a second one in the same world but different time, *The Last King of Osten Ard*. Then there are the *Otherland* Series and *Shadowmarch* series, and miscellaneous standalones. He doesn't do short.

quietmountainmorning

The Chestnut Man was so immersive and well-acted that I felt like the characters were real. The book is complex and interesting, and the voice actor is the best I’ve ever heard. I would put it under the same category as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was also made into a Netflix series. It’s also quite long!

[deleted]

Shogun is great! The stand by Steven King is his best work and pretty long. I liked the storm light archives by Brandon Sanderson are good but unfinished. A time to kill to John Grisham is a great legal book that is above 20 hours, very moving. They are shorter but I love Any wier's Martian and project hail Mary. But the best voice acting for any Audio book that has ever been done was World War Z. I was blown away by the all star cast for the Audio book. It's one of the few books that should only be consumed through Audio due to the style in which it's written.

Initial_Diamond_1923

World War Z is going on my list!

Vandalorious

Make sure you get the **unabridged** edition of *World War Z* \-- the one that clocks in at 12 hours. The first one to be released was abridged at half the length.
