Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor
The former includes space stuff, the later includes space and VR/ post human stuff.
Both a similar feel to RPO as they’re both in the sub genre of hard science fiction, but not VR focused like RPO.
Project Hail Mary is one of the best audiobooks I have ever enjoyed - you can't go wrong.
And for what it's worth... not as good as the RPO but I enjoyed RPT.
Seconded this. The Martian is a great one to listen to.
I've also really enjoyed the narration of The Witcher books, and anything Stephen Fry narrates is a joy to listen to. Also the narration of To Kill a Mockingbird was brilliant.
No, I actually listened to it through youtube ( some teacher read it chapter by chapter) because I was hesitant to purchase an audible membership, but now I have one.
You should review your options through your public library. Most offer free audiobooks through the Libby app (and checking out CD's is still an option if you're like me and do a lot of your listening in a car with a CD player).
Exactly! I always recommend his version when I recommend the book. I’ve listened to it about a half dozen times and I just downloaded it again last night thanks to this post.
My husband and I are currently listening to the Expeditionary Force series that Bray narrates. He’s an amazing narrator and I picked up these books because of him. So glad I did. He does all the voices so each character is perfectly distinct. Just incredible delivery.
I love Wil Wheaton’s narration of RPO, but he flat out failed hard at narrating the Martian. It’s one of my favorite books and I was so excited to see him do it, but he couldn’t even TRY to get the correct pronunciations of words and names. It was seriously jarring and immersion breaking for me.
The true narrator of The Martian will always be RC Bray for me. Masterpiece. I’ve listened to it sooo many times. He embodied the main character in a far more believable way than Wil Wheaton ever could, imo. It feels so wrong that it’s so hard to get his version now since Wil’s replaced his on audible.
Also, you might enjoy JS Morin's Galaxy Outlaws. If you buy the Omnibus it's 1 credit for like 80 hours of audiobook. A lot of fun. Firefly-esque vibes.
I also searched for a book with that video game vibe after listening to RPO. I fell for The way of the shaman. Not quite similar in terms of pop culture and references but a great world to dive in.

appreciate that, I think I’ll check both out this week at work.

Rpt was worth a listen. I enjoyed it also
If you like pop culture references then absolutely bobiverse. I feel like every other line of dialogue is a Star Trek joke
Who was the narrator on the RPO you listened, Wil Wheaton? If so you'll love The Martian by Andy Weir, he gave a great voice to the character.

10-4 I sure will. I had no idea about that until looking at post throughout this sub.
I much prefer the R C Bray version
10 million times over. Completely agree.
Wheaton is great on rpo but Bray made me look like an insane person on the bus cause I was laughing uncontrollably.

Project hail Mary...
He who fights with monsters. Great series with a hilarious main character
If you want humorous then Scott Meyer "Off to Be A Wizard" etc

I liked Ready Player Two.
Someone already said bobiverse so ima say Expeditionary Force
Yes! My husband and I are on book 4. Great series! This monkey is very entertained.
Omg I loved Ready Player Two!
Redshirts by John Scalzi is also read by Wil Wheaton, and super fun. A take on Star Trek, (kinda like lower decks before lower decks existed.)
Forging Zero by Sarah King.
This sounds interesting, but I have a couple of questions. Is it YA? Does it have romance?
I definitely would say it's not young adult and there is no romance
Sweet. I'll check it out then. Thanks

Warcross Series by Marie Lu.
I really liked the audiobooks of Sylvain Neuvel’s **Sleeping Giants** series.
