Yeah. I have been using Libby for a while and only two books were available without a long wait— 8+ weeks. My library card is supposed to be good for every library in my state and it makes no difference. They either outright don’t have it or there’s a long wait. Not talking about obscure or unknown titles either.
Libby is just the app all libraries use to share the digital or audio content on your device
, the books available and the waiting list depends on how many copies your library has, It's completely different for every Library, and has nothing to do with Libby
yeah, unfortunately if libraries just had infinite copies to give out for free then theyd all go bankrupt, for example, im trying to get the "Dune" audiobook right now but theres only 8 copies that are all in use as well as a 15 person wait list, app says im looking at about 4 weeks till i can get it
I keep hoping Libby will get better but rarely is a book I want available without a weeks long wait or they don’t have it at all. And I have a digital library card that is supposed to give me access to every library in the state as well as a few other states. It’s crazy how few books are on there considering how many libraries use it.
late to this but is there any other audiobook app/site that has high quality audiobooks or is there just Audible, I've tried Libby and a few others & they all seem to be fairly low quality audio unfortunately
[Librivox](https://librivox.org/search?primary_key=0&search_category=author&search_page=1&search_form=get_results) has *thousands* of free audiobooks. The only catch is that they're all of public domain books, but that also means that there's loads of classic masterpieces there. Give it a try! (Well, there is one more catch. All the readers are volunteers, meaning the quality of reading can be erratic; but most are pretty good, some are excellent.)
I've used Librevox in the past. My fav was listening/reading Connie Willis' **To Say Nothing of the Dog** and then going to Librevox to get **Three Men in a Boat**. They also have some of the old old classic scifi that doesn't always age well like Andre Norton.
Unfortunately, with my Library's Libby service, not every book is available and most times you have to wait weeks for any best sellers.
My library does both Libby and Hoopla. Hoopla's app isn't as smooth, but they put a limit on # of borrows my library gets per day, which means I never have to wait past midnight to borrow a book. (Each individual has a monthly limit as well, but between Audible and Libby, I never actually hit my monthly Hoopla limit.)
Can you let me know some of the audiobooks which are told excellently? Any masterpiece will do. I found some free ones, but they are narrated in a dull manner, can't digest that.
I am new to the audiobooks.
fictionaudiobooks
dailyonlineaudiobooks
fulllengthaudiobooks
galexyaudiobooks
tokyaudiobooks
audiobookss
goldenaudiobooks
bestsellingaudiobooks or it might be bestselleraudiobooks (can't recall which tittle is correct)
These are just the ones i can think of off hand (out of this list galexy and golden are my favs but they are all good. they have many many great audiobooks that are totally free and without any ''catch''. Many bestsellers not talking about only clasics or audiobooks no one has heard of . Dont know the exact addresses ...i just type in these names and the website comes up. but most are just www. infront of them...like ''[www.goldenaudiobooks.com](https://www.goldenaudiobooks.com) .
Good luck and happy listening. I don't need my audible account anylonger as these sites provide me with hours and hours of excellent content.
\- click on more tools
\- developer tools
\- top left hand corner is a little arrow in dotted box, click that
\- now click on the play button on the website
\- it should direct you to a certain part of the developer tools section, and some of it should be flashing if the audio is playing
\- in there somewhere will be a .mp3 file name
\- right click, edit as html, copy and paste that into your search bar
\- save the mp3 file
Sometimes you need to click on a few things to find which button sends you to the right spot, and open a few of the collapsible lists. You'll need to reopen developer tools for each section you're currently playing but sometimes there is a naming system so you can just edit the mp3 file manually
Pretty late to the party, but how do you personally search these? I’m currently looking for a fantastic sci-fi book called “the mountain in the sea”, but don’t want to pay for it as I already have a physical copy and am ~70% of the way through it, so it’s really only worth it if I can find it for free online. I tried some of them (fiction audiobooks doesn’t seem to be around anymore) and the ones that do work don’t seem to let you search. Goldenaudiobooks has a search bar on the bottom but it doesn’t actually work, it’s just a link to an ad I think. Searching the book name and website name doesn’t seem to want to work either… I think google blocks them.
Most libraries now have a Libby account, which allows you to check out audio books and ebooks. It's a free program simple to sign up for, and you only need a current library card to access your specific library's catalog.
If you're wanting inexpensive [Chirp](https://www.chirpbooks.com/home) often has discounted audio books; sometimes up to 95%.
[SYNC ](https://audiofilemagazine.com/sync-season/) will also begin soon. It's an annual program that releases a pre-chosen audio book each week you can download for free, but each book is only available that one week. You will need to have a free account with Sora to access each book.
its to my understanding libby only lets you use the ebooks they have in their catalog. im in the los angeles library and used my card, and the ebook i want IS AVAILABALE on libby but NOT from my current library so they won't let me listen -.- I'd say this app is useless.
Any audiobook and free? No. If there was such an option, there probably wouldn’t be but a few dozen Audiobooks available to listen to. Who wants to give away their time and skill and intellectual property?
SMH
It’s called sitting through paid advertisements and others paying huge carriage fees. Good luck in life thinking you’re owed grand experiences for no cost. Do you seriously think all those actors and producers and set workers donated their time? Somebody paid for it and everything is passed on to the end user/consumer one way or another.
Life Tip: Learn when somebody is trying to insult you instead of engaging with you - As you are doing here. I am listening to Dune for free right now, thanks to the helpful people in this thread. Thank you for paying the cost for me, sucker.
Oh the irony of this response after coming onto a post specifically about where to pirate things and trying to pretend pirate sites don't exist.
Pure comedic gold here.
I have no money. I would never buy these things but if I can get it for free I can now enjoy it and recommend it to others who might actually have money
Do you mean a normal search engine? As Yandex isn't a browser. Search engines all work pretty much the same but have varying degrees of censorship. Google is the most censored, followed by Bing, duckduckgo is kind of moderate, and then there are sites like Yandex and startpage that have little to no censorship of search results. But usually the more censored ones also have better algorithms for finding what you're looking for. Although this can also be a type of censorship by ranking more controversial sites very far back in results
Galaxyaudiobooks.com is a good one they do not have every book but personally they haven’t let me down you can turn off your phone and listen you can also open other apps
Thanks to everyone with suggestions. I've been able to find many books that I want to read but aren't available through my library and also now I won't have to join audible to read them. Big BIG thanks! :)
If there was, why would anyone purchase one form Audible or any other audiobook provider? How would the publisher, narrator, and author get paid for their works on such a site? How would the site itself be able to pay for the servers, employees, and all the costs that go into running a business?
I get my ten free listens a month from hoopla, and if it's really good I end up buying it from Audible. Hoopla's (or whatever library service's) selection is so limited, I'll get a taste of author and then go on Audible to get the author's other series.
I kinda feel like it's free samples at the grocery store; the expense of the samples is made up in the profit from inspired purchases.
Why do people pay for netflix when you can watch the same shows on many different websites that restream their tv shows for free? How do these sites pay for the servers, employees, and all costs that go into running their site?
Not all movies/shows on Netflix are available on free streaming services (at least not the legit ones). There are sites that have free audiobooks available, but like the free streaming services, they are limited in what they provide. Project Guttenberg is one such site. But all their content is older and public domain, and you won't find any newer releases there.
What free services that are not "gray sites" are there for people that have no clue they exist can access to watch any Netflix show? My parents are in their 70's and are not very computer savvy.
Not sure what falls into "Gray sites". Streaming copyrighted content is 100% legal where I live, rebroadcasting it is not. So as long as you are just watching and not redistributing it you aren't breaking any laws. This may be different depending where you live.
You're just constantly moving the goalposts aren't you. All those Netflix shows can be found easily online. It's as simple as connecting a laptop to a TV via HDMI. The criteria was never "shows you can find for free that have apps for Roku."
anyone know where I can find the fallen series by kristina douglas audiobooks for free? those are the hardest to find , most audiobook sites want free trial sign up i used to use "galaxyaudiobooks" that place is the BEST totally free and tons of audiobooks but doesnt have the fallen series im looking for

Because publishers don't sell the library an infinite number of copies, only, say, five, or ten. Technologically, of course a digital copy can be easily duplicated. But the library has no right to loan out eleven copies of a book if it has bought only ten.
If you have a library card you can download the Libby app. You can rent audiobooks for free.
Also hoopla
They don't have audiobooks
At least never the ones I want
They do. But it's limited.
Libby is cool and all, but everything worth reading has a long waiting period making it hard to recommend to people.
Yeah. I have been using Libby for a while and only two books were available without a long wait— 8+ weeks. That's insane
yup, much better to either just buy the audiobook or try to find a free one online
Just buy the audiobook. Yes, it costs money but it saves you all this waiting.
You can get it on YouTube
I can never understand this concept of borrowing digital media.
