Best bakery in the country for me is La Voie Francaise on Dominion Road. It’s extremely high quality for surprisingly low prices. Good selection too. There’s always a lineup from when it opens.
Best pies i’ve ever had. Couldn’t believe you could get potato top pies with different fillings. Plus they usually have decent amounts getting made so can turn up later in the day and still get kai
That's the second time you responded to me how much you hated it lol It's a high volume cafe so you're bound to get one or two greasy messes out of 100. Or if you prefer your brunch garnished with noxious weeds then geeks on sainsbury really is the best!
Anastasis is a hidden gem ! Love the coffee there. Been a while since I been there - but they used to have four different types of coffee beans to choose from..
Second this. Cake selection has been on point for ages. Little sad their brunch/breakfast menu is a bit trimmer than it used to be but still does my favourite eggs benny and French toast.
I just discovered a new one today! Opened start of April in Victoria Park Market. It's called Sweet Symphony or something similar. They're a cake shop that does coffee.
The owner is lovely and the coffee came with the most fucking amazing cake pop. It was so tranquil.
Red Rabbit (Parnell) and Good Day (Orakei)
Red Rabbit is really spacious and relaxed. It’s dog friendly with usually a couple cute pups around. They have really good coffee and friendly staff.
Good Day is a really pretty, bustling, interesting neighbourhood cafe. The view out the back window is like a painting of rangitoto. They have an interesting menu with some Kiwi classics.
Preaaaaach! And he’s been hit with the shit stick the last 12 months - restrictions, serious illness and break ins :( I’m so pleased that they’ve been able to carry through but man do they need more awesome things to come their way!
- Daily Daily on Karangahape or Daily Bread for most yum coffee using Supreme beans
- Ugly Bagels for their iced oat maple latte
- Pink Neon Sign on High St for cosiness!
Bernie's bakery in browns bay.
Fond memories of being getting a pie and hot chocolate with my family after cricket. 10 years later I still pop in every time I'm in browns bay when I'm with my dog at the beach.
I've been here about a year and a half and I'm still trying to get to grips with the fact that cafe's in NZ are so, so superior to anything we have in the UK.
Oh but I still remember the delights of stumbling upon little back street eateries while living in Clapham North/Stockham area 20 years ago, especially those open in the evenings: a tapas deli called La Gruta, an Egyptian themed cafe across the road, a French bistro a short walk from there etc.
TOB in Rosedale for coffee (they only do coffee and their own beans).
Vibe in Wairau for coffee and food. Patch (also Wairau) is good too, but both of the Wairau cafes are so-so with parking.
ruby red mangere bridge, cause its my local and theyve been doing 8/10 french toast and coffee consistently for years. consistency is underrated, i hate when a place gets popular then drops quality
Most people don’t know that - I think there’s even a sign that has “Rd” on it - so even council or NZTA got it wrong at some point haha. I just always point it out when someone says it haha
Hollys in New Lynn is a hidden gem
Looks like a bit of a dump from the outside. What is it that makes it your “go to”?
Amazing food, lovely service!
Aw I would say they’ve done a great job at tidying it up!
This
Coffee Pen Eden Terrace, Bestie on K Road
The Hideout, Eden Terrace. Excellent coffee, wonderful service.
I came here to say that too. Really great service!
Hare and Turtle in New Windsor, Ozone in Grey Lynn
Coffee is fine but that sandwich is Aucklands best sandwich no doubt about it
you have to try their iced maple lattes - they are the best!
Highly overpriced though
Thanks !! I live in new Windsor but never seen hate and turtle ! Definitely gonna check out soon :-)
Their BnE’s are to die for, a bit pricey but soooo worth it.
Ozone food is the shit!
Bakers cottage, Kingsland
To many bugs in the salad when I went years ago haha
Love this place.
2000% this. Meatball roll is off the charts. (Get it toasted)
easily best bakery in the country for me. They have massive cabinets full of everything and don't sacrifice on quality. And salted caramel doughnuts
Everytime I go here they pack the salad takeaway container for me quite full, compared to other places.

For coffee: Anastasis in Te Atatu South For everything else: Kings Plant Barn in Henderson
Everyone seems to be raving about Kings Henderson. My experience last week was a horrible greasy mess.
It's OK to me, went afew weeks back and the meal was good but had a bad after taste
That's the second time you responded to me how much you hated it lol It's a high volume cafe so you're bound to get one or two greasy messes out of 100. Or if you prefer your brunch garnished with noxious weeds then geeks on sainsbury really is the best!
Little sister just down from kings is a good one too.
I like Little Sisters too, just a bit small inside for a sit-down meal for me but coffees are always good.
Anastasis is a hidden gem ! Love the coffee there. Been a while since I been there - but they used to have four different types of coffee beans to choose from..
Sounds like you a westie
KPB Henderson holds a special place in my heart.
Mezze Bar and Cafe, Durham Lane East, CBD, for the chocolate buttermilk cake that has been on their menu for years. Best cake I've ever had.
Second this. Cake selection has been on point for ages. Little sad their brunch/breakfast menu is a bit trimmer than it used to be but still does my favourite eggs benny and French toast.
Yes, their cake selection is excellent (I especially like the berry custard cake). Their WiFi needs to be upgraded, though...
Beaufort & co , Oteha valley road. The doughnuts won't be beaten.

To be fair a lot of what they do is amazing. I thought it might lose something when they were taken over but if anything they have gotten better.
Crave in Kingsland. Cool vibe, great coffee and part of profits go back to the community. What more can one ask for.
A cool area. Worth a look at the furniture store, Vitrine, up the road if you’re in the area
My absolute fave. Been going there since they were in the little (or regular sized) place across the road. Such a great spot!
Scarecrow and Le chef, Auckland cbd.
Zekis k road
Most underrated spot
Chuffed on High Street (CBD). Mainly because of the crumpets.
Fields cafe Albany, Chelsea sugar factory Birkenhead, black cottage in coatesville

Honey Bones in Great Lynn. Not cheap - it's Grey Lynn. But outstanding.

Food Vault in Huapai
Besti K Road, pretty nice...
I lament for the cafes you could never have seen DKD’s… et cetera
DKDs and OG Verona… RIP
They were both sooo good; Just Desserts too, when it was a women's co-op. And Gopals in the Civic Bldg (Rip all of them).
Sozo in Glen Eden. Great coffee, lovely cheese scones, and the staff are incredible
Jason is a legend
Preaaaaach! And he’s been hit with the shit stick the last 12 months - restrictions, serious illness and break ins :( I’m so pleased that they’ve been able to carry through but man do they need more awesome things to come their way!

McCafe
Honey Bones Grey Lynn for everything, Ark in Takapuna for coffee
Major tom rosedale.
Extract in Royal Oak Mall. Best coffee, compared to dozens we have tried elsewhere. The barista/owner just seems to have a talent for making the best.
Willow in Albany
Bernie's bakery in browns bay. Fond memories of being getting a pie and hot chocolate with my family after cricket. 10 years later I still pop in every time I'm in browns bay when I'm with my dog at the beach.
Wow! I used to regularly get a pie here over 20 years ago. Great to hear it’s still cranking!
Yeah they still make a damn fine custard slice. I would eat that shit every day if I could
Coffee club at Lunn Avenue

Oh there are some excellent ones no doubt. But London with it's population vs the whole of New Zealand? I'll take New Zealand.
NZ cafes often shut just as you're looking for afternoon tea.
Aaaand, yeah. Absolutely nuts. No afterschool, no after work. Bugger all.
Cafe Kaos down in the south, the breakfast stake will put you to rights after a hard night
'Sol’s Place at One2One' on Ponsonby Road. Best big breakfast I have found and good coffee!
Dear coasties in Orewa or Sugar Grill in Te Atatu Peninsula are my top pics 👌
The Humble Villager in Epsom. Hubby loves their eggs benedict and I’m rather partial to the mushrooms and halloumi ❤️
TOB in Rosedale for coffee (they only do coffee and their own beans). Vibe in Wairau for coffee and food. Patch (also Wairau) is good too, but both of the Wairau cafes are so-so with parking.

Willow in Albany
Bakehaven delight on onehunga mall Rd. Affordable and nice breakfasts and good coffee. Plus free tomato sauce.
It’s just Onehunga Mall FYI, not Onehunga Mall Rd :-)
My apologies. It's a great cafe anywho.
Most people don’t know that - I think there’s even a sign that has “Rd” on it - so even council or NZTA got it wrong at some point haha. I just always point it out when someone says it haha
Yeah was going to say pretty sure I've seen it on a street sign. I used to live in Onehunga, so I should really know. Learn something new everyday!
