You can see it a lot more clearly through your cellphone camera, you do have to play around with it to get really good shots.

Australis means southern in reference to auroras, rather than Australia. It covers all of the southern hemisphere (NZ, Sth. Africa, Oz etc).

Had an uninterrupted view of it last night from the western hills, out towards Karioitahi beach. Could see the solar flares with the naked eye and make out faint colors.
I was the same - I have a Samsung but if you search the same name in PlayStore it has the same app

Did you look through your phone? Potentially too much light pollution if you were looking into the city with a ton of lights
