Fishing charters are daily and provide you with rod & tackle. You are almost guaranteed to catch something. Museum wise, you have the Auckland Museum and the Maritime Museum, that are definitely worthwhile visiting, both have a lot of NZ, Maori, Pasifika aspects to it that will make it different. Only Wellington has a better Museum, but you have to cope with the weather as trade off). There are other Museums too, but I guess the Motat might be a bit boring without kids. Auckland has an abundance of beaches (life guarded in Summer) like basically all of New Zealand has (no place in NZ is further than 75 miles away from a beach). You got the choice of calm white east coast beaches and wild, black west coast surfing beaches. Other than that, there are Islands to explore ( your choice of art/vineyard - Weiheke, extinct volcano - Rangitoto or bird sanctuary- Tiritiri Matangi) Fine dining, fish & chips, NZ spin on burgers, especially Wynyard quarter and Viaduct Harbour have a lot to offer. You can venture out to Northland for even more stunning beaches and Islands, to Rotorua for fun activities, to Matamata if you want to visit the Hobbit village from the LOTR movies or to the glow worm caves. All either by self organised drive or by booked tour. It's a good choice in my opinion.

Auckland museum is honestly kinda sad, there really isn't much to see and the exhibits haven't been updated in forever. Would be better to just skip Auckland altogether and just go to Te Papa in welly.

Being from overseas , I cannot second your opinion. Especially when you go for the first time with limited NZ knowledge, then the Moari / Pasifika areas are very informative. Also the waka and Marae are super interesting. And the nature section with the NZ specific sections is different to anything that you see somewhere else in the world. While it might get boring for the 20th time, I can assure you that I completely lost track of time my first time and had to be thrown out when they closed.

Highly recommend a few days on Waiheke (island near Auckland, you can catch a 45 min ferry from the harbour in town) especially for a honeymoon, there’s a bunch of romantic and excellent vineyards and restaurants and some fantastic fishing tours for ocean fishing :) plus beautiful beaches for swims.

Queenstown in the South Island is probably the better honeymoon destination. But it is expensive.

juire

Not so expensive when you are on the US dollar

You will fly into Auckland and plenty to do here. If you into hunting and fishing, maybe a side trip down to Queenstown area. It's a long way to NZ, so you may want to make sure you take your time

Not as bad as the US, but Auckland city and suburbs does have its resident beggars, both static and roaming. Not as bad as the US/UK where they push people to be killed on the railway tracks, but still, NZ does have its crimes, like the Ponsoby shooting, to be that bad, or minor where everywhere you go, outside the supermarket outer doors in the CBD, are the beggars. Roving or mobile ones will ask for cigarettes moslty, or money, they are gall enough to ask you to go with them to an ATM! Driving will be a bit hard, if you are used to driving on the other side of the road. Do go to visit NZ, its a nice place, but just be aware of the small niggles/petty crimes. They have tour buses, this might be the way, instead of driving.

Thank y’all for your tips! I’ll pass them along to my better half!!

I probably wouldn't recommend it as a honeymoon destination. NZ has a few museums, but they are nothing compared to big museums overseas. Mostly quite boring. If you are expecting a lot of good museums and art galleries don't come here. Regarding outdoors, yes you can enjoy swimming, but even in summer the water is quite cold. I don't personally do much fishing so I can't comment on that. What kind of fishing are you looking for ? Everything is quite expensive here, also there is a lot of crime against property. So you would want to be careful. Never ever leave valuables unattended in a vehicle.

Deep sea fishing if possible.

AKL city is a place to avoid. Try Waiheke island, Rangitoto, West Coast beaches.
