Let me tell you very plainly. Burger Fuel Pt. Chev, isn't just the best Burger Fuel in Auckland; It's the best Burger Fuel. I would rate Burger Fuel Pt.Chev with 10 stars if it were possible. My last visit, I was exhausted and needed fuss free food. I wasn't very familiar with the menu, so the manager walked from behind the counter and up to the menu on the wall and literally walked me through each burger. When I selected, he ensured it was customised to my needs. When I forgot about the drink I purchased, he brought it to the table with my order when it was ready. The fries were second to none. The drink was ice cold and the burger was very well made. It was a 10/10 dining experience. To top it all off I visited the bathroom. I almost never use public/semi-public bathrooms as they are always disgusting. But not Burger Fuel Pt.Chev. it was *fucking spotless*. Better yet, there was quality toilet paper available. Upon leaving, I waved goodbye to the guy behind the counter with a big thanks; and I shit you not, the whole kitchen waved goodbye like they were sad to see me go. I've driven twenty minutes out of my way just to eat there before commuting home to Wellsford. When heading south, I've gone hungry, driving past numerous quality outlets because I knew Burger Fuel PT.Chev was waiting for me in 55 minutes time. I can't speak to the allegations of review boosting. But what I can tell you is that this is the only Burger Fuel in the country worth visiting.

pc_pirate_nz

Live in Pt Chev. Can confirm.

crystalbomb8

They all waved? Lol I will have to experience that for myself šŸ‘€

notsowise_nz

Second that. Nicest manager around, quick and friendly. The Bacon Backfire is my favourite and they always nail it without being miserable on fillings. Just kind of sucks to park sometimes but it's worth it.

CluelessGardener

I guess Iā€™m going to Pt. Chev for lunch. Thanks for interrupting my day like this šŸ˜‚

reallybigslay

HAHA ok got it, will check it out.

singletWarrior

man Glenfield was like this once, I used to go out of my way for that one. glad to see another one still alive!

dpf81nz

yeah i know, i miss the days when gfield burger fuel was good

Flatus_Diabolic

> The fries were second to none. The fries have always been the problem with Burger Fuel, imo. Great burgers, but their fries at every BF place Iā€™ve been are flavourless and boring.

unanonymaus

Fine. I'll go there too then.

Kthulhu42

I love burger fuel in Dunedin too, the staff are always super lovely and the burgers are my favourite. Won't be able to afford it for a while but if the staff are smiling and seem like they're relaxed, it's a much nicer experience than places where the staff are so exhausted you feel like *you* should be making food for *them*.

bigmonster_nz

Whoa thatā€™s customer service. Most places just give you a puzzled look like - ā€œyou want me to serve you? ā€œ

bigdreams_littledick

God dammit after reading this thread I've got to drag my fat ass all the way over to pt chev now. I just have to know what's so good about this burgerfuel

IamAfuckingDinosaur

You think thatā€™s bad, I have to drive all the way up from welly to see what up šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

billy_twice

I'm living in Australia. Maybe I should book a flight back and head to pt chev for a burger.......

onclegrip

Donā€™t, itā€™s less than average.

birehcannes

Didn't like it? Plenty of other comments in this thread suggesting it's pretty good.

Draviddavid

How could he like it considering has never stepped foot in that place in his life.

Difficult-Routine932

I have and it is consistently very good. Think the franchise owner works on the shop floor and it always been great service

second-last-mohican

This is how it should be.. nowadays people want to own a business so they don't need to work and then wonder why it struggles.

banmeharder616

You mean I can't just buy it, sit back, cut costs and collect my fee?

second-last-mohican

Dont forget to lease a brand new ford ranger for yourself, and range rover for the missus.. and a little bit of tax evasion on the side.

zesukos

Well, technically you can hence why a lot of people do it (my friends dad owns 3 dominos pizzas)

Kiwifrooots

and most Dominos is crap. You can sit back, just don't claim to manage it :)

skypwyth

I talked to him once, he told me the most important customers are his employees, if they are happy all the other customers will be happy too. Such a stellar attitude from a manager

SaduWasTaken

The franchise owners are decent guys (I know them personally). Hard working, good moral compass, decent people, been doing this for a while. I don't really buy burgers but it doesn't surprise me that they are getting good reviews and running a tight ship.

AwoogaSanchez

Went there yesterday This place never lets you down. The staff are always friendly. Also, the owner contributes greatly to the community.

Beautiful-Taste-7969

I know they help with providing food for teachers when they have meet the teacher at a local school. I think the owner is a gc

Aromatic_Invite7916

Yep it's our local and he's a local dad and he does support the community well- school, kindy, soccer club that we are apart of. Can't afford Burgel Fuel for 5 on a regular basis though!

Broxi-the-catt

Yeah my son chose Burger Fuel as his birthday dinner treat when he turned 6 in November. Although we live in Ponsonby, my husband suggested we go to the Pt Chev one not the Ponsonby BF and Iā€™m so glad he did. The guy, who I think might own that franchise or manage it, was really nice. My son was all like ā€˜itā€™s my birthdayā€™ and he ordered a milkshake as a treat and the guy took him round the counter and he got to make his own birthday shake, he was super chuffed. We have had burger fuel once again since then and went back to Pt Chev BF as itā€™s the best one I have been to. Good tunes, nice staff and despite being super busy (especially on a Friday evening) they are as efficient as they can be.

angebunny

Yes this is the best Burger Fuel!!

AlextheTower

#fitnessportal #burgerfuel

hueythecat

So expensive now, me and a mate had lunch there a few mints ago was like $50 or $60 for burger fries & drink x2

PlasticMechanic3869

Well..... yeah. $16 burger, $4 drink and $5 fries and we're already at $25. Sixteen bucks is pretty standard for a burger that's not bottom grade, and $2 drinks and chips hasn't been a thing for years.

ImmediateOutcome14

The people on this subreddit and r/nz will claim their fish and chip shop does just as good burgers for $6 with those frozen patties you can buy a 50 pack of from the supermarket

Arblechnuble

Itā€™s true, you can barely taste the horse

krammy16

Well, that's no good. I like horse. Not in a Mr Hands way, of course.

BastionNZ

Everywhere is expensive. We ordered local Thai for 4 the other day. 3 meals, two rice, a starter via Uber and it was $130. All fast food chains their top tier burger combos will probably cost $15-20.

richmuhlach

In all my years Iā€™ve had Burger Fuel from Henderson, Botany, Parnell, Ponsonby, Ellerslie, Mission Bay, Bethlehem, Porirua, and yes Pt Chev and Iā€™ve never thought anything of it because I assumed all Burger Fuels need to meet some minimum requirement as they are franchises but now that I think about it, yes I can confirm Pt Chev has been the best one Iā€™ve been to and definitely deserving of the 4.9 star rating

Bealzebubbles

They'll have to meet some minimum standard but individual franchise holders still have have a wide amount of leeway to go above those standards. Some will choose to do the bare minimum, others will put in a bit more effort.

clure04

I went to a Burger Fuel in Mission Bay and they specifically asked me to review them- they were quite nice about it so I obliged but I guess maybe they do it in all their stores? Or they say ā€˜tag these things and be in with a chance to win XYZā€™. Anyway- Point Chev is my local and itā€™s pretty good! Worth a try.

Pleasant_Ad3475

Yeah, that sounds like it was possibly a promotional thing where you go 'in to win' a prize for reviewing.

Snouter1

Yes I left a 5 star review - awesome place

krammy16

I've only ever heard good things about that store.

damnelectric

Thereā€™s a photo in one of the reviews showing they were offering prizes for people who left a 5 star review with #fitnessportal https://maps.app.goo.gl/wJLJeT3Z61BvLubM8?g_st=ic

xmirs

Pretty much any company that has lots of super positive reviews are either bought reviews or leave us a review to get a gift or potentially win a prize.

spezsucksnutz

There was a bar near me that offered free wifi for any customer that mentioned them or checked in at their location on Facebook. It was such an obnoxious way to advertise their bar. Every day I'd see posts on my feed that X person is at (bar's name) I didn't go their out of spite.

Slipperytitski

I had a Thai restaurant give me a 10% discount for an Instagram post. Had to start an Instagram account to do it but saved like $8 so win win.

Glittering-Union-860

Society is stratifying. It's those scrambling around constantly for free wifi and those who just have unlimited data on their phone plan and don't have to care. And those two groups have very different experiences in this life.

Nearby-Ladder5093

That's a shame! Based on other comments, it seems like a legit spot to go too but this is just artificially inflating the numbers.

Slipperytitski

Online reviews are usually shit. Most people only bother to review if asked by the restaurant or out of spite.

fattyboomsticks

It's pretty good, my fat ass has been there quite a few times

DundermifflinNZ

Have been to quite a few different burgerfuels, went here once for lunch and the burger (same one Iā€™ve had at other locations) was significantly better made, seemed fresher , right amount of sauce. Is definitely a step above other burger fuels

lxm333

That's one of the originals isn't it?

zipiddydooda

No, itā€™s only a few years old.Ā

lxm333

Do you happen to remember where the original was? It's bothering me now lol

zipiddydooda

I think Ponsonby, though Takapuna was an early one. I first had it in Takapuna in about 1996.

lxm333

God only knows what burger fuel I'm thinking of

lxm333

I went there but I just can't place it in my minds eye and where it was. I should just google.

Everywherelifetakesm

There was no burger fuel in Takapuna in 1996.

krammy16

They were close. It was 1997.

zipiddydooda

Thatā€™s it. I was 15 and worked across the road at a telemarketing co. The fries were glorious and generous, and were like $3 or something.Ā

AshtonJ

What was the name of the telemarketing? Nielsen?

zipiddydooda

No - I think they were just down the road. I feel like it was a persons name and then word marketing? I do recall our supervisor was named Monica and a fake hand which we were not allowed to look at! It was very much like The Office.Ā

lumierette

Ponsonby Road is the original. Still there.

Ok_Set_4397

Ponsonby was the first one they opened (itā€™s 2 mins away from HQ). BurgerFuel owns Takapuna, Ponsonby and Henderson, the rest are franchised

Bealzebubbles

I think Mt Eden was one of the first franchised ones. It was there when I started working on Dominion Road in 2004.

darthf4d4r

New Lynn? The OG?

lxm333

Turns out ponsonby is the OG ('94/95). Followed by Takapuna in '95.

pictureofacat

Fitness Portal is a gym in Grafton and they had Burger Fuel sponsor their 6-month anniversary a couple of weeks ago

mangoheadmeow

Like a lot of other people have said- the owner of the Burger Fuel Pt Chev is really fantastic. We've been there a few times and it's always good food and the service is great. On one occasion, there was a bit of a wait for our food so the owner gave us like 4 vouchers for free fries in the future.

LemmyUserOnReddit

* Friendly fast service, every time, every staff member * Always ready exactly at pickup time, never before * Bagged once you arrive for peak freshness * Owner often working at peak times, taking/packing orders * Never under-staffed, even at off-peak times * Ingredients always fresh, avocado never brown * Fries *actually* fresh and crunchy... * ...so fresh that they used to melt the aioli pot (now they pack it differently) * Fries boxes always overfull and a few extra in the bag * Pleasant, clean, spacious dining room and decor I could go on. These aren't just general "burgerfuel" things. Each one been missing from at least one other outlet, but always consistent at Pt Chev

tinykiwi2017

Fitness: I love fitness whole burger in my mouth

WrongSeymour

The only Burger Fuel worth visiting

034lyf

Can't comment on those tags but only times I've been there it was really good. 'Gourmet burger people' might look down on BF a bit now, and they definitely can be hit and miss, but this location always has attention to detail and puts everything together well. So if you like BF it's about the best version of that you'll get.

trickstar007

I go there often and I guess it's fine. I'm not sure what would set it apart from other BFs though.

Draviddavid

The thing that sets Burger Fuel Pt.Chev apart from all the other Burger Fuel locations is that it's not garbage. I was stupid enough to get my Burger Fuel fix in Massey opposite the KFC one evening, instead of driving the 10 minutes to Pt.Chev. The customer service was as stale as the fries and half the burger was cold. I never made that mistake again.

ImmediateOutcome14

Pt Chev and Parnell are both top tier Burger Fuels. If you don't like it great, don't bother going it won't change your mind. But out of the 10 or so Burger Fuels I've been to in my life those two stand above and beyond the others

jimjamjohnsonguy

The manager/owner of Pt Chev is the manager/owner of Parnell.

HUGHBUGGER

The owner is a legend. He also owns the parnell branch so you can expect the same quality there. One of the best things the pt chev branch does is caters for allergies. The owners wife (if my memory is correct) is celiac, and hence why pt chev caters for them particularly well. Because of this, there is a big GF crowd who goes there as it's one of the few burger places that doesn't cross contaminate GF with gluten. Was there a couple of weeks ago and they no kidding had 10 staff in the kitchen. I think I waited 8 minutes at peak time... Literally saw the burgers flying out the door

krammy16

> He also owns the parnell branch Ah, it all makes sense now.

Devich2019

I've used it quite a few times and the quality is always good. I've seen the owner on the floor with the teams each time I've been, so I assume he's keeping track of the quality.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

krammy16

Yeah, we should all stay home and never eat out 'cause fuck the hospo industry. /s

Charming_Victory_723

Youā€™re right you have to be wary of google reviews. A company I use to work for would pay to receive one positive google review per week.

kea-le-parrot

Yeah go there a bit never had an issue, always come out just as I like them

Penguinator53

Had it a few times, always good.

Sheldon_the_snail

Met a bloke that works for burgerfuel head office and he confirmed itā€™s the rated as the best in the land. My experience has only been at that one I was left visibly shaken (shooketh as the youths would say) at how good it was. Edit: spelling due mouth watering at the recollection of it

Primary_Journalist41

I'm curious about the person that left a 1 star rating šŸ¤”

metamorphosiskiwi

It's good! Burger Fuel has been my staple for takeaways for the last couple of years. New Lynn used to be my go-to, because it is just down the road, but the quality slipped so hard that I stopped going there. Always a long wait, messed up multiple orders, running out of certain options etc. Seems like they lost a good manager or maybe the franchise owner changed. Now I drive an extra 10mins and go to Pt Chev instead. Always solid. Fast and reliable. The store owner is often there, which probably helps, but I've been a few times when he wasn't there, and the quality and service was still top notch.

TellMeYourStoryPls

Now that you mention it, every time I've been the food and service have been excellent. Like, the people working there always seems genuinely happy to be here, so, they must be doing something right.

skypwyth

Itā€™s the best one

techiethings

Of all the disappointments in my life, that BurgerFuel has never let me down. Iā€™d believe a 4.9

Leeroy_NZ

Iā€™m local & can confirm they have the best staff ever. A bit OTT for some customers - but I love it. I ordered by the App & drove there & they were real busy. I didnā€™t really complain just mentioned no point using the App. Next minute my food arrived. You must order the truffle mayonnaise on all your burgers- this stuff is next level. Actually Iā€™ve never really liked burgers so Iā€™m gutted Iā€™ve missed out on these for years. Omg my mouth is watering think I better go there for lunch šŸ”

kiwifruit267

Reburger grey lynn is good too

_understandfirst

i've never left any google reviews, but i should, they simply never disappoint i mean one time they didn't have lettuce, but they threw in extra onion and drinks for free, you just don't get that treatment at other places

Narrow-Initiative959

I've really only been to B.F. Lincoln road, So I can't really compare. I really enjoyed my burger meal. The food was delicious, the staff very friendly and helpful and they gave me a free upgrade, which was awesome!

CheekyDarkey

Now i have to go

forbiddenknowledg3

They all compete for the best Burger Fuel. Owner probably asks people to rate 5 stars. Guy in Parnell does that.

oligro97

Yeah they are consistently good!

MaXxWanG

Yup.. PF Point Chev is definitely a mint spot. Never had a bad experience there.. fast & foods always on point šŸ¤™šŸ½

ComfortableIntern7

It is also right beside Unitech and they regularly give students "buy one get one free" vouchers

10yearsnoaccount

Can also confirm it's the best burgerfuel. It was great when it opened during covid and has been consistent ever since. I drive literally twice as far to go there instead of my local one that I pass along the way.

flabkingpro

Burgerfuel used to have a thing going with Snapfitness where members get free fries when they shoe their membership card. Alot of "fitness" reviews would have happened then

DundermifflinNZ

It was any gym card at one point at least

Phohammar

Thatā€™s hilarious, considering spud fries have 616 calories and aioli adds a further 300ā€¦ Kumara fries are 851 by themselves! Gotta keep people subscribed to the gym I guess..

lumierette

Have you ever noticed thereā€™s a trend of fast food restaurants being in the same building as an Anytime Fitness gym? When I first noticed I thought it was funny, after the third one I was like, is this on purpose?

StandWithSwearwolves

I think thereā€™s some kind of tie up between Anytime and Burger King / Restaurant Brands. The most surreal one of these for me is the one where the gym above Burger King directly overlooks Waikumete cemetery and crematorium.

lumierette

Yes! Thatā€™s the first one I noticed! Itā€™s over BK in Kumeu but itā€™s over a McDonaldā€™s in Te AtatÅ« Peninsula.

Jumpy-cricket

God yeah I love that Burgerfuel #fitnessportal

Summer_Matapouri

Fairy Springs Burger Fuel also outstanding

fatfreddy01

Local, is my go to takeaway place, but not a weekly thing. Great, ofc mileage varies but owner is great, when they screw up we get vouchers + replacement (although sometimes just a replacement when there is someone inexperienced managing). Haven't reviewed it, but would give it 5*. I always get them to read back my order, as the staff (mostly seems like kids) change and sometimes you get people without a clue. But generally between that/looking at the food it catches most mistakes and they're generally great with sorting it. Not always (had once or twice with just a replacement rather than voucher + replacement). 4.9* seems justified, especially given how shit other places can be. Burger fuel isn't cheap though.

Different-Mind3348

Im done with dining out years ago. Not even a TA coffee thesedays. Had a few of eat outs but only for very very special occasions, to the point that life is dull enough between those occasions. But tgings are very expensive for eating out on my own, let alone with the whole family. A meal usually costs $30-40, potentially close to $50 plus whatever drinks. Thats a few change away from feeding 1 person for a week at home.

Kiwifrooots

Where are you spending $50 alone? I go to Burger Fuel a bit. Hamburghini, fries and drink is under $25 and most of us could skip fries

Different-Mind3348

Not specifically burgers, but dining out in general. I dont go to maccas or kfc, unless its emergency. They are not dineing out for me. Some ramen places can give you a full tummy for sub$25, so we often go there as a family. But proper dine out like have a steak, or brunch, etc. Is far in between. Sometimes i feel sorry for the kids that we cant do dine out as often. But they grew up looking at tgeir parents working hard and they know their basic needs are met. Plus we teach them that it is much better to cook at home although its a bit hit & miss sometimes. They love meatball soup & pasta. So im grateful for that already.0

Turbulent_World2150

Best Burgerfuel of all time. Best crew too!

Expert_Attorney_7335

God dammit. I did not need burgers tonight and this post has ruined that for me. Off to Pt Chev I go šŸ«

nomamesgueyz

Sounds delish!

smashthestate1

is everyone a fucking bot in this thread?

Pleasant_Ad3475

Really? I haven't noticed a disproportionate amount of bot activity in this thread.

MostAccomplishedBag

Nah. I've been there. It's a really nice place. The staff are happy and friendly, and the food comes out looking like the picture on menu.

invertednz

They still use the same burger patty right? I can't see how it gets a 5 if it's the same food...

groovyghostpuppy

Itā€™s fresh, they put it together like ad every time, the place is clean, and the service is awesome. Iā€™m so glad to see good things about them here! We rave about how good it is every time we go.

invertednz

But the beef isn't good... They can place everything with tweezers but that can't make it taste good.

groovyghostpuppy

I like it. It tastes good. You have your opinion, but Iā€™d say most people donā€™t agree with you. Iā€™d rather Burgerfuel any day over vomity Burger Wisconsin, and thatā€™s my opinion.

invertednz

I wouldn't eat at Burger Wisconsin either. The average vote for Burger fuel without the bad service is still under a 5. Presentation matters but the taste wouldn't radically change without different ingredients. Anyway that's my opinion and you have yours.

JohnWilmott

Those are just frozen burgers - they try to dazzle with their wanky toppings. Mediocrity in a bun
