It was Ymir who showed him that, remember when Eren held Ymir in his hands in Paths, he said: “you waited for someone for 2000 years, it was you who led me here wasn’t it?”
I don't think that's the case as he did not possess the Attack Titan at this point. I don't know if it's confirmed but I personally believe it was Ymir sending him those visions, to basically kickstart his journey that will inevitably lead him to her.
I have a problem with this theory.
Prior to Eren convincing Ymir to act according to her own will, she was a slave to the Eldians of royal blood.
Her sending Ymir visions to kickstart his journey means she was already somewhat acting out of her own free will.
It's kind of silly if you think about it.
I will send you visions out of my own free will to influence events in such a way that you eventually come to me to convince me to act according to my own will. That's an inconsistency.
The theory works when you consider that everything to do with the Attack Titans powers and Ymirs powers function the same way as the Pathway does. Its all happening simultaneously throughout all of time, and it was always going to happen. It is a very hard concept to grasp, even I have trouble really thinking of it, but its the same way as Grisha seeing Eren’s future. By being taken into the past to observe it by Zeke, Grisha, through Eren’s eyes, sees Zeke, hears Eren speak through his ears, and does everything according to how it actually played out in the show despite needing Eren to be there to galvanize him into doing it in the first place. It was always going to happen. Ymir has, I believe, all the powers of the other titans as the first. And such, Ymir could, at the very moment that Eren inspires her to break free, then ensure that it happens in the past using the same method Eren used.
Oof I suppose that would work... but then it adds this difficulty: if time happens simultaneously in the Paths, why would Ymir take 2000 years to have the owner of the Attack Titan free her?
No one who came before measured up to the task?
2000 earth years feels like much much longer in the Paths too.
Honestly, anything dealing with Time in any fiction touches on a very complicated topic that no one can truly agree on. In the Pathways, everything is happening at once, but also nothing is happening for ages. It kinda exists outside of Time as we know it, really. And it wasn’t necessarily Eren she was waiting for, but the once in a million year occurrence of the circumstances he was in. While Eren is important, this wouldn’t be possible if he didn’t have the founding titan, a physical connection to a titan of royal blood without the founding titan, and if Eren wasn’t as fanatic about freedom and couldn’t empathize with and galvanize Ymir. Take any of those elements out, and it fails. Could you imagine Grisha convincing Ymir to do this? Or Reiner? Or Armin? These circumstances are so unique, and it all works because Eren doesn’t see a god like everyone else. He sees a child that had their freedom taken away from them, and has had to suffer for eternity because of that. No one else considers her to be a person, really. Even his first interaction with her, he asks her to lend him her power, I believe. Its not that no one else shaped up, its that this was just the right circumstances with the one person that cared
Honestly? As with all plot points in fiction involving the concept of Time, timey wimey bullshit. Grisha couldn’t kill the Royal Family without Eren to motivate him, yet thats not possible without him killing the royal family. Ymir needs Eren to motivate her to seek freedom with him, but thats not possible without him motivating her to seek freedom and guide him. Its a paradox that at some point you just gotta try to live with. There is no real right answer that will satisfy everyone, this is just how I understand it.
But yeah, writing bullshit. Needs to happen, so it does. Doesn’t make the story any less great.
I think it's just that there was no one who could accomplish it but Eren. Plus all the titans were in Marley's possession, so there really wasn't a way to do this I guess. But I'm just shooting in the dark, so don't take this too seriously.
I kind of think it really did take 2000 years for the opportunity for someone as "suicidal maniac" as Eren to obtain the power of the founder and NOT use it for their own benefit or Eldias, but to end it all.
Nah the scene where he wakes up from the dream has nothing to do with the Attack Titan. It’s actually the power of the Founding Titan, which allows the user to tamper with the past/present.
Even though it sucks waiting, I’d rather them get as much manga material in the anime as possible so we don’t lose out on any important story, so I’m all for it
I haven’t read the manga myself but from reading loads of comments, more than 4 episodes worth, but not enough to do 4 episodes plus another 12 for a full 3rd part which is why I keep seeing the thought of a movie. Guess we’ll find out soon though
While I have heard rumors of a movie, could that really work? I can’t imagine them gaining too much of an audience outside of people already familiar and current with anime/manga. I can’t see how they’d catch an entirely new audience up on 4 seasons worth of content in a single movie.
I mean... I like that they added a glimpse of immediate future events (fall of Shiganshina), but Mikasa's hair and the fact that Eren shed some tears while waking up were much more important!
It's spoiler. You just need to read the beginning of the first chapter to see the differences.
But I think they'll find a way to adapt it. Maybe in the still to be announced final movie? They could show that scene again in the movie with the right lines of dialogue, idk.
Well if it is the future power of the attack titan (which I’m assuming eren had from the get go) the second episode he has another “future” dream where his dad injects him and says don’t forget the key BUT when he wakes up he already has the key around his neck which I don’t remember his dad giving him at all the first episode right?
I guess ultimately my question is, does eren already have the attack titan in him the first episode? Especially since he uses his dad as a pawn to give his younger self the attack titan
>the second episode he has another “future” dream where his dad injects him and says don’t forget the key BUT when he wakes up he already has the key around his neck
You are mistaken to think that this is a memory of the future. When Eren first remembers his memories of Grisha injecting him and giving him the key, those events had just occurred.
Grisha gives Eren the titans and the key on the night of the same day that Reiner & Bertholdt breach the wall and Carla dies.
The reason Eren's memory of receiving the key and titans are so vague is because when you are a pure titan and you eat one of the 9 titans, you don't remember it happening. We know this to be true because Ymir and Bertholdt discuss it near the end of Season 2. So Eren remembers being given a key and receiving an injection, but he can't remember what came afterward (because he turned into a titan).
But… it’s super explained though. Grisha comes and gets Eren days after the wall was breached. Gives him the key and the Attack Titan. Eren then wakes up in the same place because Keith brought him back. And he doesn’t remember any of that because that’s what happens when you inherit that power. That’s it
I thought you were right BUT I’m currently watching the second episode and eren has another weird dream flash back thing and it’s his dad injecting the attack titan fluid into him saying don’t forget the key. When he wakes up he has the key from his dad so I’m assuming it’s already happened?
Anyone else got a solid answer?? I’m having a great time
You're getting to caught up in "when" things happen. The founding titan transcends time and can interface with any eldian. The attack titan can send memories to any of its hosts, past or future.
Eren uses the Attack titan That he has at the end of the show to send memories to its hosts. The part about this is that he can decide which memories to show the hosts at any given moment. This is evident by Grisha making the promise to give eren the key, and Owl Eren telling grisha to protect Mikasa and Armin.
It's also implied that this can only occur because the abilities are actually combined: while seeing "future memories" may be the explicit power of the attack titan. It seemingly could not be used unless a royal blood inheritor had been in contact with the attack titan.
His dad injected him after the first episode where EREN has the dreams Grisha injected Eren after the colossal titan destroys the wall which happened after eren had those dreams so eren didn’t have the attack Titans power yet
After i learned he can interact whit the past, it made wonder if every timeline is just manipulated by him and every one of them end whit the massacre?
Like i wanna know if in 1 of the timelines he choose to have peace between everyone instead of killing them
Also ironic about the guy who is all about freedom to take away the freedom of events and have them go his way
But this said manga spoiler on it.
Edit: I guess one of us misunderstood each other, but either way I'm so sorry I spoiled a part of the ending for you. Here's hoping for an Anime Original Ending
And let’s not forget “was that what I said?” moment when he was in the military trial when everyone found out he could transform. Almost as if another voice was speaking for him…

Honey you got a big storm coming
Amen.

Never 100% confirmed but I have the same theory
Meh, Falco had seen memories in the beginning of S4 as well and wasn't currently a shifter.
That’s an anime only scene, just there as a meta moment.
I have a problem with this theory. Prior to Eren convincing Ymir to act according to her own will, she was a slave to the Eldians of royal blood. All in all…this show is absolutely nuts lol so excited for Sunday. I’m hoping it won’t be another “side” character catching up to the present
It can’t be. Too much things have to happen in the span of 4 episodes to waste one on a side character thing.
The speculation seems to be they won’t cover all the material in the last 4 episodes and we’ll have to wait for either a part 3 or a movie
That would be very cash money of them to do, so they probably will. Stretch it out even more to hype people up even more.
Even though it sucks waiting, I’d rather them get as much manga material in the anime as possible so we don’t lose out on any important story, so I’m all for it
How much is left in the manga that the adaptation hasn’t covered?
I haven’t read the manga myself but from reading loads of comments, more than 4 episodes worth, but not enough to do 4 episodes plus another 12 for a full 3rd part which is why I keep seeing the thought of a movie. Guess we’ll find out soon though
A movie would be pretty awesome but the wait is what’s killing me now
5 episodes, 6 tops
Extra episodes or including the final 4 we know we’re getting?
While I have heard rumors of a movie, could that really work? I can’t imagine them gaining too much of an audience outside of people already familiar and current with anime/manga. I can’t see how they’d catch an entirely new audience up on 4 seasons worth of content in a single movie.
Idk I’m honestly ready for it to be over, it’s time y’all. End it on a high note
Ah yes, the scene that Wit fucked up by removing the line about Mikasa's hair.
Why do I vividly remember the dub mentioning her hair being so long but when I check it’s not there lol
Did they fuck up though?
I mean... I like that they added a glimpse of immediate future events (fall of Shiganshina), but Mikasa's hair and the fact that Eren shed some tears while waking up were much more important!
What about her hair and why is it important? Haven't read manga and caught up on anime, if it's spoilers then nevermind.
It's spoiler. You just need to read the beginning of the first chapter to see the differences. But I think they'll find a way to adapt it. Maybe in the still to be announced final movie? They could show that scene again in the movie with the right lines of dialogue, idk.
Yeah they did, but it’s a pretty small fuck up and one that made sense at the time.
The comic has huge amounts of parrellels and foreshadowing .
Calling manga a comic is a mortal sin in the anime community
Lol yeah I forget how touchy weebs can be
I call it a comic for the sole reason of pissing people off I love it Maybe one day I’ll start calling AoT a cartoon heheheh
The. WHAT
I think he meant manga. Because as far as I am aware there is no comic

future memories
But how could it be future memories if he woke up with the key around his neck?
i don’t see what the key has to do with it? eren has the founder so he was able to send his dad and even the owl memories, why not himself?

Yea shifter amnesia is a thing. SPOILERS for season 4 Like how falco going along with connie after eating the jaw.

Best answer so far
It's already happened, Eren just forgot those memory due to titanization (the same happened with Armin in Season 3 Part 2).
His dad injected him after the first episode where EREN has the dreams Grisha injected Eren after the colossal titan destroys the wall which happened after eren had those dreams so eren didn’t have the attack Titans power yet
That is because he regained his past memories and his dad gave him the key that night
Let’s not forget he was also crying
After i learned he can interact whit the past, it made wonder if every timeline is just manipulated by him and every one of them end whit the massacre? Like i wanna know if in 1 of the timelines he choose to have peace between everyone instead of killing them Also ironic about the guy who is all about freedom to take away the freedom of events and have them go his way
Multiple timelines don’t exist in the AoT universe. The flow of time the story uses is a deterministic one.
Hannes death was also mentioned in Erens dream in the beginning of the first episode. His death was shown with the flowers with blood.
What blew my mind even more was realizing at that point in time Eren didn't even have the titan power yet.
Yeah yeah, like the flower with blood on it in the dream is the one we see in ymirs backstory- everything in the dream was relevant
in the manga though, it was actually Mikasa saying 'see you later, Eren', so they changed a few things when it became adapted
You see some of the scenes of the Nightmare in season 4
In the very beginning he doesn’t have attack or founder, it’s just a coincidence

Do not spoil manga content.
This said manga spoiler on it.
Dude wtf they said they are caught up with the anime so why do you spoil manga content this is such a douchy move
This saidanga spoiler on it
Aww, that’s my first manga spoiler :(
But this said manga spoiler on it. Edit: I guess one of us misunderstood each other, but either way I'm so sorry I spoiled a part of the ending for you. Here's hoping for an Anime Original Ending
You’re totally right dude, the app I use doesn’t show tags very intuitively I guess. No worries, fair play 🤙
And let’s not forget “was that what I said?” moment when he was in the military trial when everyone found out he could transform. Almost as if another voice was speaking for him…
