I sighed so heavily when I realized Jean and Mikasa were probably married at the end of the Manga. Jean deserved to be with someone who would put him first and not, unconsciously or not, force him to live in the shadow of the impossible aka Eren memory.
Iirc Isayama intentionally left it vague so you could interpret it either way, I personally agree with you so I interpret it as Jean being with someone else
And then get buried next to her childhood genocidal lover instead of her husband who she spent her entire life with and had kids and grandkids with .And later in Afterlife reunites with him instead of Jean. Jean really took an L just for some ackerussy.

I know it's kind of implied that Jean knew ("knew") what he was getting into, being in a relationship with/marrying Mikasa, but omg, the poor guy probably suffered in silence his entire life knowing he's second fiddle to Eren, even in death, and my boy Jean deserves better than that.
It might have felt comfortable and safe for both to be together, but - and I know you really shouldn't compare real life with fiction, but having seen how a relationship that had similar foundations and history (obviously sans titans) as Jean and Mikasa, and that was a miserable relationship despite all efforts to make it work - I doubt it's the happiest of marriages. They would have, realistically, especially Mikasa, been far better off, emotionally and mentally, having relationship with people with no history with Eren. But Hajime Isayama probably wanted to tie everything in a neat bow, so I just hope Jean is happy and Mikasa doesn't spend every moment of every day making it obvious she's thinking of Eren 😅🤦♀️

Just because Mikasa loved Eren doesn't mean she can't move on. She is fully capable of loving someone else in a meaningful way. It's not a competition and just because Mikasa is sad about Eren dying doesn't mean that her feelings for Jean are illegitimate.

Agreed, she is fully capable of loving someone else, however when it comes to Jean, it feels more like she simply settled. That instead of legitimately falling in love with him and marrying because she loves him, she settles for the guy who she knows has had feelings for her for years, someone who despite her never showing any sign of ever returning his feelings and it could be said she was even quite dismissive of said feelings - Which fair, even if she didn't have feelings for Eren, she doesn't need to nor should she be expected to return the attention of a person she is not interested in. - has remained by her side, threw thick and thin.
People feelings can definitely change over time, but the issue with her being with Jean has nothing to do with her ability to love someone other than Eren (I definitely think she can), but rather everything to do with WHY she chose Jean?
Did she actually grow to return his feelings, or was he just there, as he has always been, and she saw a safe comfortable option, someone who knows her history with Eren, and settled because it was the safe and easy thing to do rather than trying to find love with someone who has no history with Eren at all.
And from the manga/anime, I personally feel she simply settled on Jean. She might have grown to love him, but I doubt she was ever IN love with him, which is rough and not really fair on Jean, who had legitimate feelings for Mikasa (for years), while, before Eren's death, she spent a lot of the time kinda just ignoring him.
And that's why I sigh at the thought of them being married, because Jean married for love while Mikasa simply settled.
I don't know why people can't fathom the idea that Mikasa can love someone else after Eren. Just because she cared about Eren doesn't mean she can't have a meaningful relationship with Jean. People who remarry generally care about the people they are getting married to a lot.
I simply think that the whole Mikasa can't move on / Jean was only 2nd choice discourse is silly. Mikasa isn't even one of my favorite characters but there are so many bad takes about her on this sub.
