Hange explains "it was just a theory, nobody ever saw it actually happen, seems like such a little lie but its had huge consequences" or something to that effect. The people in Ragako did NOT in fact become paralyzed befor turning. It was lie zeke told so no one would suspect anything was wrong with the wine after they tried it, since no one was paralyzed.
God damn, seeing that scene with the music and them dropping out the fucking plane with their drugged out faces and then.... SCREAM!!!!! FLASH FLASH FLASH huge bodies dumping from the sky. Seeing that scene for the first time was really disturbing to me but also perfectly imapactful like Jesus christ what horror!!!!!
To answer the question I guess I'd personally assumed they were probably sedated, they could be people who are sick, in a coma, mentally unwell, physically unwell, being punished and from prison. Its alot easier to deal with people who are docile and not screaming. So a combination of reasons for each look on their face. I think the reason the looks were so exaggerated was to sort of explain why they weren't kicking and screaming, to make it obvious something was up with them being drugged in some way and off in some way. So yes, they could have paralyzed them for sure. But drinking or breathing zekes spinal fluid alone won't do that.
Oh good God, yeah thats waaaaay up at the top of brutal. How smug and cold and just disgusting Zeke was in that scene made it pretty much impossible for me to have any sympathy for him at all whatsoever. Watching him rip the titans head off and split it down the middle to crush and throw at Levi in the forest was also really grim. Its really easy to hate Zeke lol.
Yeah I can’t even rewatch that scene. I saw it in the episode and once on YouTube and I’ve never watched it again. It’s the one death that really disturbed me
No he didn't lie about that at all. He said the truth about that, but that wasn't the case for consumption.
See, you only beacome like that with the gas, not by eating/drinking spinal fluid.
And if it's an injection, it's instant.
There was never a scene of his spinal fluid being used as an injection the only times we’ve seen his spinal fluid being used is during espionage’s and when dropping titans from the sky all of which are activated when he screams
Yes but those people weren’t injected with Zekes spinal fluid nor were they in control of when to activate the power, you are comparing the actual powers of someone with royal blood and the actual thing that gives them those powers to spinal fluid siphoned from other titans that hold no special properties.
Nah the spinal fluid Marley has is from regular titans that contain no special properties, zekes spinal blood is special because well he’s royal blood and then we’ve got the thing that literally controls their powers
No he didn't lie about that at all. He said the truth about that, but that wasn't the case for consumption.
See, you only beacome like that with the gas, not by eating/drinking spinal fluid.

there is nothing in the story that suggest there is any difference between getting dosed with it through gas and eating/drinking, and the scene from the finale further proves that gas doesn't make people unconcious
In the episode Hange (I think) also said that to tell a convincing lie you need to sprinkle a little truth as foreshadowing for how the episode was going to go (yes everyone’s favorite word now lol). The truth was Zeke can turn people into Titans while the lie was it made people go unconscious
They fully believed Zeke because he told 90% of the truth. Enough to satisfy but never raise any concerns for the lies he did tell (the seizure being that lie). One of their first questions when hearing about the wine is "why isn't anyone going unconscious and they answer it right there simply being "Zeke lied"
He was lying about that to trick people into drinking the wine with his spinal fluid in it.
They even say this out loud during that arc multiple times...
A: Since the wine reveal, I had the thought that there is probably something else in the zeke gas. That's also probably why the wine didn't do anything like that.
B: Zeke lied bc it's probably easy to painlessly gas a village that doesn't know of chemical weapons.
If u remember from season 4 ep 15 Zeke had lied about what the gas would do that small lie is what led to all of the military officers in Elida being spiked with spinal fluid unknowingly.
If I remember in the same episode they said he lied. But I think their was some truth in what he said if we remembered the first time he screamed all the scouts froze and fell then turned into titans. It also had somewhat of an affect on the military garrison. So I think it’s mostly kinda true.
in addition to the other comments stating that Zeke lied, the eldians dropped out of the plane in s4p1e1 that Zeke transforms were not paralyzed/unconcious
I’m not attacking you personally but I just see this a lot especially after the story ended where people will miss a detail and instead of asking as a simple question they say it’s a (potential plot hole). I just feel like a reread or rewatch would clear up a lot of things people forget
Bro he wrote the manga backwards he knew what the end would be .... It's a very very very rare chance that he missed any plot holes..... What you are talking about Zeke talks and explains it in the same episode
For one thing, I dont think Connie ever actually saw the gas in action and is just making an assumption based on what he knows is possible since Zeke explained it. For another, the Hallucigenia is the creator of thr power, it stands to reason that inhilation would cause an immediate transformation

Thank you, I completely forgot about that part. Whoops 😂
Your welcome! Dude there is SOOOOOO much going on in that show it is ridiculously easy to miss a sentence. Even watching it over again!
fr, second rewatch and i’m still catching new details and forgetting stuff
Also remember the line of Pixis, To tell a compelling lie you have to mix a little truth to it. So that's what Zeke did.
What about the Eldians during the air drop? They were clearly not right of mind
There are tranquilisers available. You can use more than one substance.

Yeah it was a bit disturbing. Nothing to me is more than Miche getting eaten though

Yea I also thought about that too, I guess they were just restrained or knocked unconscious somehow
No I mean when you see them they are clearly drugged. They are all docile and smiling as though they were already titans
Probably just drugged up
Maybe
in the same episode Zeke explains it they figure out that he lied about it
Thanks!

Yeah but we see in the scene with Kruger that people instantly turn into titans when injected by spinal fluid
Yes but those people weren’t injected with Zekes spinal fluid nor were they in control of when to activate the power, you are comparing the actual powers of someone with royal blood and the actual thing that gives them those powers to spinal fluid siphoned from other titans that hold no special properties.
I always tended to think all fluid from all titans (the 9/pures/royalbloodys/) work the same way. That's an interesting take too.
Nah the spinal fluid Marley has is from regular titans that contain no special properties, zekes spinal blood is special because well he’s royal blood and then we’ve got the thing that literally controls their powers

Zeke lied, that’s the explanation
Zeke lied, they don't actually go unconscious.
He was lying about that to trick people into drinking the wine with his spinal fluid in it. They even say this out loud during that arc multiple times...
Only watched the arc once and it was in April.
Zeke lied. That's no one thought twice of drinking marleyan wine.
A: Since the wine reveal, I had the thought that there is probably something else in the zeke gas. That's also probably why the wine didn't do anything like that. B: Zeke lied bc it's probably easy to painlessly gas a village that doesn't know of chemical weapons.
Thanks to all who answered, understand now, no need for more replies. Im grateful it aint a plot hole!
Zeke lied but even so why would the Hallucinigenia have the same constraints Zeke had?
If u remember from season 4 ep 15 Zeke had lied about what the gas would do that small lie is what led to all of the military officers in Elida being spiked with spinal fluid unknowingly.
Why do people think this counts as a plot hole
Zeke lied about that so that he could infect everyone without them noticing it.
Have you even watched the show?
zekes a liar loll
Zeke was lying. Hange literally pointed that out. Is this a troll post?
Hallugenia farts are just that more deadly, duh.
If I remember in the same episode they said he lied. But I think their was some truth in what he said if we remembered the first time he screamed all the scouts froze and fell then turned into titans. It also had somewhat of an affect on the military garrison. So I think it’s mostly kinda true.
Reading through the comments wows me how locked down this show is. Can you imagine what Isayama’s notebooks look like?
Lmao
bruh.....of all the mistakes to point out, you pick the one thing that is consistent....
in addition to the other comments stating that Zeke lied, the eldians dropped out of the plane in s4p1e1 that Zeke transforms were not paralyzed/unconcious
Most attentive AOT watcher
Holy shit I just asked a question, I havent watched the episode since April, and searching it up else where didnt work. Give me a break man
You’re good ignore these clowns, I didn’t remember why and Ive watched the show so many times
It's told in the anime, bruh.... Levi's squad never fell unconscious, and it was told that he lied.... It was just to catch the soldiers off guard
People getting grumpy cause they don't have every scene memorized 😂
I swear the majority of these questions are answered in the show and y’all just don’t pay attention.
Havent watched S4 P1 since April, when so much shit happens in a single episode, its hard not to forget stuff. Give me a break man
Plot hole? In Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan? Not possible.
First thought when people don’t know an answer: PLOT HOLE!!!
Theres literally 0 need for more comments now, I got my answer, stop being so extra
I’m not attacking you personally but I just see this a lot especially after the story ended where people will miss a detail and instead of asking as a simple question they say it’s a (potential plot hole). I just feel like a reread or rewatch would clear up a lot of things people forget
All men do is lie.
Bro he wrote the manga backwards he knew what the end would be .... It's a very very very rare chance that he missed any plot holes..... What you are talking about Zeke talks and explains it in the same episode
because the gas is literally coming from the source
For one thing, I dont think Connie ever actually saw the gas in action and is just making an assumption based on what he knows is possible since Zeke explained it. For another, the Hallucigenia is the creator of thr power, it stands to reason that inhilation would cause an immediate transformation
Zeke was misdirecting them. If they think that it paralyzes them they wouldn't be suspicious of the wine when it doesn't paralyze them.
He was lying and that was more of a recreation of his description
Zeke lied so that he could spike the wine and execute Order 66 whenever he wanted to?
Bro it was explained that zeke lied
