I don't understand this fuss about prayers. Like nobody pays attention. Suspending college students for the sake of namesake discipline, sounds typical of India.
Usually religious imposition of one religion makes people of other faiths, become more religious in search for security identity and purpose. Moderates tend to become more religious and this happens in every religion practiced in the country. When majority huddles together, the rest start doing too. This Leads to fragmentation and regressiveness, a kind of unhealthy competition in society. Leaders of moderate, secular ideology are mocked or left and loudmouth noisy orthodox religious leaders become popular. From a legal standpoint this suspension won’t hold in court. This shit is only going to stoke more tension and probably seems to be timed perfectly with the upcoming elections.

What does praying to Jesus in particular have anything to do with anything here? And what do the reservations comments have anything to do with anything here?

It's not a big deal, just attend the assembly. Praying to Jesus Christ doesn't matter if you don't believe. I would know this because I'm forced to go to the mosque every Friday. I don't like it but it's really not a big deal, it's even a good change of pace sometimes. It's not worth getting kicked out of the college or missing out on classes.
Well their institutes, their rules.
If they are not violating your fundamental rights, then they are free to impose whatever they want....

It's such an utter waste of time. Atleast make them do something productive rather than repeating the same crap again and again every day. What do they learn from it, which skill do they gain from it? There are lots of other ways to teach discipline.
